Luke 22 [NIV:KJV]

  1. Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread, called the Passover, was approaching,
  2. and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were looking for some way to get rid of Jesus, for they were afraid of the people.
  3. Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the Twelve.
  4. And Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus.
  5. They were delighted and agreed to give him money.
  1. Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover.
  2. And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people.
  3. Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.
  4. And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them.
  5. And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money.

  1. He consented, and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present.
  2. Then came the day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.
  3. Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, "Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover."
  4. "Where do you want us to prepare for it?" they asked.
  5. He replied, "As you enter the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him to the house that he enters,
  1. And he promised, and sought opportunity to betray him unto them in the absence of the multitude.
  2. Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed.
  3. And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat.
  4. And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare?
  5. And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in.

  1. and say to the owner of the house, 'The Teacher asks: Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?'
  2. He will show you a large upper room, all furnished. Make preparations there."
  3. They left and found things just as Jesus had told them. So they prepared the Passover.
  4. When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles reclined at the table.
  5. And he said to them, "I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.
  1. And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?
  2. And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.
  3. And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.
  4. And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.
  5. And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:

  1. For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God."
  2. After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said, "Take this and divide it among you.
  3. For I tell you I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes."
  4. And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me."
  5. In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.
  1. For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
  2. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:
  3. For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.
  4. And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
  5. Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.

  1. But the hand of him who is going to betray me is with mine on the table.
  2. The Son of Man will go as it has been decreed, but woe to that man who betrays him."
  3. They began to question among themselves which of them it might be who would do this.
  4. Also a dispute arose among them as to which of them was considered to be greatest.
  5. Jesus said to them, "The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors.
  1. But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table.
  2. And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed!
  3. And they began to enquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.
  4. And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.
  5. And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors.

  1. But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves.
  2. For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.
  3. You are those who have stood by me in my trials.
  4. And I confer on you a kingdom, just as my Father conferred one on me,
  5. so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
  1. But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.
  2. For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.
  3. Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations.
  4. And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me;
  5. That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

  1. "Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat.
  2. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers."
  3. But he replied, "Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death."
  4. Jesus answered, "I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me."
  5. Then Jesus asked them, "When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals, did you lack anything?" "Nothing," they answered.
  1. And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:
  2. But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
  3. And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.
  4. And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.
  5. And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing.

  1. He said to them, "But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.
  2. It is written: 'And he was numbered with the transgressors'; and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment."
  3. The disciples said, "See, Lord, here are two swords." "That is enough," he replied.
  4. Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him.
  5. On reaching the place, he said to them, "Pray that you will not fall into temptation."
  1. Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.
  2. For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end.
  3. And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.
  4. And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him.
  5. And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.

  1. He withdrew about a stone's throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed,
  2. "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done."
  3. An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him.
  4. And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.
  5. When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow.
  1. And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,
  2. Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
  3. And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.
  4. And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
  5. And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow,

  1. "Why are you sleeping?" he asked them. "Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation."
  2. While he was still speaking a crowd came up, and the man who was called Judas, one of the Twelve, was leading them. He approached Jesus to kiss him,
  3. but Jesus asked him, "Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?"
  4. When Jesus' followers saw what was going to happen, they said, "Lord, should we strike with our swords?"
  5. And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear.
  1. And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.
  2. And while he yet spake, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him.
  3. But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?
  4. When they which were about him saw what would follow, they said unto him, Lord, shall we smite with the sword?
  5. And one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.

  1. But Jesus answered, "No more of this!" And he touched the man's ear and healed him.
  2. Then Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard, and the elders, who had come for him, "Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come with swords and clubs?
  3. Every day I was with you in the temple courts, and you did not lay a hand on me. But this is your hour--when darkness reigns."
  4. Then seizing him, they led him away and took him into the house of the high priest. Peter followed at a distance.
  5. But when they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and had sat down together, Peter sat down with them.
  1. And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.
  2. Then Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders, which were come to him, Be ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and staves?
  3. When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.
  4. Then took they him, and led him, and brought him into the high priest's house. And Peter followed afar off.
  5. And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were set down together, Peter sat down among them.

  1. A servant girl saw him seated there in the firelight. She looked closely at him and said, "This man was with him."
  2. But he denied it. "Woman, I don't know him," he said.
  3. A little later someone else saw him and said, "You also are one of them." "Man, I am not!" Peter replied.
  4. About an hour later another asserted, "Certainly this fellow was with him, for he is a Galilean."
  5. Peter replied, "Man, I don't know what you're talking about!" Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed.
  1. But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and said, This man was also with him.
  2. And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not.
  3. And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not.
  4. And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him: for he is a Galilaean.
  5. And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew.

  1. The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: "Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times."
  2. And he went outside and wept bitterly.
  3. The men who were guarding Jesus began mocking and beating him.
  4. They blindfolded him and demanded, "Prophesy! Who hit you?"
  5. And they said many other insulting things to him.
  1. And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
  2. And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.
  3. And the men that held Jesus mocked him, and smote him.
  4. And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee?
  5. And many other things blasphemously spake they against him.

  1. At daybreak the council of the elders of the people, both the chief priests and teachers of the law, met together, and Jesus was led before them.
  2. "If you are the Christ," they said, "tell us." Jesus answered, "If I tell you, you will not believe me,
  3. and if I asked you, you would not answer.
  4. But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God."
  5. They all asked, "Are you then the Son of God?" He replied, "You are right in saying I am."
  1. And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together, and led him into their council, saying,
  2. Art thou the Christ? tell us. And he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe:
  3. And if I also ask you, ye will not answer me, nor let me go.
  4. Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.
  5. Then said they all, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am.

  1. Then they said, "Why do we need any more testimony? We have heard it from his own lips."
  1. And they said, What need we any further witness? for we ourselves have heard of his own mouth.
