1 Timothy 4 [NIV:KJV]

  1. The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.
  2. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.
  3. They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth.
  4. For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving,
  5. because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.
  1. Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
  2. Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
  3. Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
  4. For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
  5. For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

  1. If you point these things out to the brothers, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, brought up in the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed.
  2. Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives' tales; rather, train yourself to be godly.
  3. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.
  4. This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance
  5. (and for this we labor and strive), that we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, and especially of those who believe.
  1. If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.
  2. But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.
  3. For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
  4. This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.
  5. For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.

  1. Command and teach these things.
  2. Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.
  3. Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching.
  4. Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through a prophetic message when the body of elders laid their hands on you.
  5. Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress.
  1. These things command and teach.
  2. Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
  3. Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
  4. Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.
  5. Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.

  1. Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.
  1. Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.
