1 Peter 4 [NIV:NASB]

  1. Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because he who has suffered in his body is done with sin.
  2. As a result, he does not live the rest of his earthly life for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God.
  3. For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do--living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry.
  4. They think it strange that you do not plunge with them into the same flood of dissipation, and they heap abuse on you.
  5. But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
  1. Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,
  2. so as to live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.
  3. For the time already past is sufficient for you to have carried out the desire of the Gentiles, having pursued a course of sensuality, lusts, drunkenness, carousing, drinking parties and abominable idolatries.
  4. In all this, they are surprised that you do not run with them into the same excesses of dissipation, and they malign you;
  5. but they will give account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.

  1. For this is the reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead, so that they might be judged according to men in regard to the body, but live according to God in regard to the spirit.
  2. The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray.
  3. Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
  4. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.
  5. Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms.
  1. For the gospel has for this purpose been preached even to those who are dead, that though they are judged in the flesh as men, they may live in the spirit according to the will of God.
  2. The end of all things is near; therefore, be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer.
  3. Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins.
  4. Be hospitable to one another without complaint.
  5. As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

  1. If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
  2. Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you.
  3. But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.
  4. If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.
  5. If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler.
  1. Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
  2. Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you;
  3. but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing, so that also at the revelation of His glory you may rejoice with exultation.
  4. If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.
  5. Make sure that none of you suffers as a murderer, or thief, or evildoer, or a troublesome meddler;

  1. However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name.
  2. For it is time for judgment to begin with the family of God; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God?
  3. And, "If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?"
  4. So then, those who suffer according to God's will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.
  1. but if anyone suffers as a Christian, he is not to be ashamed, but is to glorify God in this name.
  2. For it is time for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God?
  3. AND IF IT IS WITH DIFFICULTY THAT THE RIGHTEOUS IS SAVED, WHAT WILL BECOME OF THE GODLESS MAN AND THE SINNER?
  4. Therefore, those also who suffer according to the will of God shall entrust their souls to a faithful Creator in doing what is right.
