2 Peter 1 [NIV:KJV]

  1. Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours:
  2. Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
  3. His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
  4. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
  5. For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge;
  1. Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
  2. Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
  3. According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
  4. Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
  5. And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;

  1. and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness;
  2. and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.
  3. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
  4. But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins.
  5. Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall,
  1. And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
  2. And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
  3. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
  4. But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
  5. Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

  1. and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
  2. So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have.
  3. I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body,
  4. because I know that I will soon put it aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.
  5. And I will make every effort to see that after my departure you will always be able to remember these things.
  1. For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
  2. Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.
  3. Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;
  4. Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.
  5. Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.

  1. We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
  2. For he received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."
  3. We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain.
  4. And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
  5. Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation.
  1. For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
  2. For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
  3. And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
  4. We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
  5. Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

  1. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
  1. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
