Jonah 2 [NIV:KJV]

  1. From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the LORD his God.
  2. He said: "In my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me. From the depths of the grave I called for help, and you listened to my cry.
  3. You hurled me into the deep, into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me.
  4. I said, 'I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple.'
  5. The engulfing waters threatened me, the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head.
  1. Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish's belly,
  2. And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.
  3. For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.
  4. Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.
  5. The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head.

  1. To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever. But you brought my life up from the pit, O LORD my God.
  2. "When my life was ebbing away, I remembered you, LORD, and my prayer rose to you, to your holy temple.
  3. "Those who cling to worthless idols forfeit the grace that could be theirs.
  4. But I, with a song of thanksgiving, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. Salvation comes from the LORD."
  5. And the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.
  1. I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.
  2. When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.
  3. They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.
  4. But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.
  5. And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.
