- 예수께서 무리를 보시고 산에 올라가 앉으시자 제자들이 곁으로 다가왔다.
- 예수께서는 비로소 입을 열어 이렇게 가르치셨다.
- "마음이 가난한 사람은 행복하다. 하늘 나라가 그들의 것이다.
- 슬퍼하는 사람은 행복하다. 그들은 위로를 받을 것이다.
- 온유한 사람은 행복하다. 그들은 땅을 차지할 것이다.

- Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him,
- and he began to teach them saying:
- "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
- Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
- Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

- 옳은 일에 주리고 목마른 사람은 행복하다. 그들은 만족할 것이다.
- 자비를 베푸는 사람은 행복하다. 그들은 자비를 입을 것이다.
- 마음이 깨끗한 사람은 행복하다. 그들은 하느님을 뵙게 될 것이다.
- 평화를 위하여 일하는 사람은 행복하다. 그들은 하느님의 아들이 될 것이다.
- 옳은 일을 하다가 박해를 받는 사람은 행복하다. 하늘 나라가 그들의 것이다.

- Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
- Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
- Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
- Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.
- Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

- 나 때문에 모욕을 당하고 박해를 받으며 터무니없는 말로 갖은 비난을 다 받게 되면 너희는 행복하다.
- 기뻐하고 즐거워하여라. 너희가 받을 큰 상이 하늘에 마련되어 있다. 옛 예언자들도 너희에 앞서 같은 박해를 받았다."
- "너희는 세상의 소금이다. 만일 소금이 짠 맛을 잃으면 무엇으로 다시 짜게 만들겠느냐? 그런 소금은 아무 데에도 쓸데없어 밖에 내버려져 사람들에게 짓밟힐 따름이다.
- 너희는 세상의 빛이다. 산 위에 있는 마을은 드러나게 마련이다.
- 등불을 켜서 됫박으로 덮어두는 사람은 없다. 누구나 등경 위에 얹어둔다. 그래야 집 안에 있는 사람들을 다 밝게 비출 수 있지 않겠느냐?

- "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.
- Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
- "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.
- "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.
- Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.

- 너희도 이와 같이 너희의 빛을 사람들 앞에 비추어 그들이 너희의 착한 행실을 보고 하늘에 계신 아버지를 찬양하게 하여라."
- "내가 율법이나 예언서의 말씀을 없애러 온 줄로 생각하지 마라. 없애러 온 것이 아니라 오히려 완성하러 왔다.
- 분명히 말해 두는데, 천지가 없어지는 일이 있더라도 율법은 일 점 일 획도 없어지지 않고 다 이루어질 것이다.
- 그러므로 가장 작은 계명 중에 하나라도 스스로 어기거나, 어기도록 남을 가르치는 사람은 누구나 하늘 나라에서 가장 작은 사람 대접을 받을 것이다. 그러나 스스로 계명을 지키고, 남에게도 지키도록 가르치는 사람은 누구나 하늘 나라에서 큰 사람 대접을 받을 것이다.
- 잘 들어라. 너희가 율법학자들이나 바리사이파 사람들보다 더 옳게 살지 못한다면 결코 하늘 나라에 들어가지 못할 것이다."

- In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
- "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
- I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.
- Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
- For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.

- "'살인하지 마라. 살인하는 자는 누구든지 재판을 받아야 한다.' 하고 옛 사람들에게 하신 말씀을 너희는 들었다.
- 그러나 나는 이렇게 말한다. 자기 형제에게 성을 내는 사람은 누구나 재판을 받아야 하며 자기 형제를 가리켜 바보라고 욕하는 사람은 중앙 법정에 넘겨질 것이다. 또 자기 형제더러 미친놈이라고 하는 사람은 불붙는 지옥에 던져질 것이다.
- 그러므로 제단에 예물을 드리려 할 때에 너에게 원한을 품고 있는 형제가 생각나거든
- 그 예물을 제단 앞에 두고 먼저 그를 찾아가 화해하고 나서 돌아와 예물을 드려라.
- 누가 너를 고소하여 그와 함께 법정으로 갈 때에는 도중에서 얼른 화해하여라. 그렇지 않으면 고소하는 사람이 너를 재판관에게 넘기고 재판관은 형리에게 내주어 감옥에 가둘 것이다.

- "You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, 'Do not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.'
- But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brotherwill be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to his brother, 'Raca,' is answerable to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who says, 'You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell.
- "Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you,
- leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift.
- "Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still with him on the way, or he may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison.

- 분명히 말해 둔다. 네가 마지막 한 푼까지 다 갚기 전에는 결코 거기에서 풀려 나오지 못할 것이다."

- I tell you the truth, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny.
