- 그 후 예루살렘에서 바리사이파 사람들과 율법학자들이 예수께 와서
- "당신의 제자들은 왜 조상들의 전통을 어기고 있습니까? 그들은 음식을 먹을 때에 손을 씻지 않으니 어찌 된 일입니까?" 하고 물었다.
- 예수께서 이렇게 대답하셨다. "너희는 왜 너희의 전통을 핑계 삼아 하느님의 계명을 어기고 있느냐?
- 하느님께서는 '부모를 공경하여라.' 하셨고 또 '아버지나 어머니를 욕하는 자는 반드시 사형을 받아야 한다.' 하셨다.
- 그런데 너희는 사람을 가르칠 때 누구든지 아버지나 어머니에게 해드릴 것을 '하느님께 바쳤다.' 하고 말만 하면

- Then some Pharisees and teachers of the law came to Jesus from Jerusalem and asked,
- "Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They don't wash their hands before they eat!"
- Jesus replied, "And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition?
- For God said, 'Honor your father and mother' and 'Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.'
- But you say that if a man says to his father or mother, 'Whatever help you might otherwise have received from me is a gift devoted to God,'

- 아버지나 어머니를 봉양하지 않아도 괜찮다고 한다. 이렇게 너희는 너희의 전통을 핑계 삼아 하느님의 말씀을 무시하고 있다.
- 이 위선자들아, 이사야는 바로 너희를 두고 이렇게 예언하였다.
- '이 백성이 입술로는 나를 공경하여도 마음은 나에게서 멀리 떠나 있구나!
- 그들은 나를 헛되이 예배하며 사람의 계명을 하느님의 것인 양 가르친다.'"
- 예수께서 군중을 가까이 불러모으시고 이렇게 말씀하셨다. "너희는 내 말을 잘 들어라.

- he is not to 'honor his father' with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition.
- You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you:
- " 'These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.
- They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.'"
- Jesus called the crowd to him and said, "Listen and understand.

- 입으로 들어가는 것은 사람을 더럽히지 않는다. 더럽히는 것은 오히려 입에서 나오는 것이다."
- 그 때에 제자들이 와서 예수께 "바리사이파 사람들이 지금 하신 말씀을 듣고 비위가 상한 것을 아십니까?" 하고 물었다.
- 예수께서 이렇게 대답하셨다. "하늘에 계신 내 아버지께서 심지 않으신 나무는 모두 뽑힐 것이다.
- 그대로 버려두어라. 그들은 눈먼 길잡이들이다. 소경이 소경을 인도하면 둘 다 구렁에 빠진다."
- 베드로가 나서서 "그 비유의 뜻을 풀이해 주십시오." 하고 청하자

- What goes into a man's mouth does not make him 'unclean,' but what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him 'unclean.' "
- Then the disciples came to him and asked, "Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this?"
- He replied, "Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be pulled up by the roots.
- Leave them; they are blind guides. If a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit."
- Peter said, "Explain the parable to us."

- 예수께서 이렇게 설명하셨다. "너희도 아직 알아듣지 못하였느냐?
- 입으로 들어가는 것은 무엇이나 뱃속에 들어갔다가 뒤로 나가지 않느냐?
- 그런데 입에서 나오는 것은 마음에서 나오는 것인데 바로 그것이 사람을 더럽힌다.
- 마음에서 나오는 것은 살인, 간음, 음란, 도둑질, 거짓 증언, 모독과 같은 여러 가지 악한 생각들이다.
- 이런 것들이 사람을 더럽히는 것이지 손을 씻지 않고 먹는 것이 사람을 더럽히는 것은 아니다."

- "Are you still so dull?" Jesus asked them.
- "Don't you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body?
- But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man 'unclean.'
- For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.
- These are what make a man 'unclean'; but eating with unwashed hands does not make him 'unclean.' "
