- 그 날 부활이 없다고 주장하는 사두가이파 사람들이 예수께 와서 물었다.
- "선생님, 모세가 정해 준 법에는 '어떤 사람이 자녀가 없이 죽으면 그 동생이 형수와 결혼하여 자식을 낳아 형의 대를 이어야 한다.' 하였습니다.
- 그런데 우리 이웃에 칠 형제가 살고 있었습니다. 첫째가 결혼을 하고 살다가 자식 없이 죽어서 그 동생이 형수와 살게 되었는데
- 둘째도, 셋째도 그렇게 하여 일곱째까지 다 그렇게 하였습니다.
- 그들이 다 죽은 뒤에 그 여자도 죽었습니다.

- That same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question.
- "Teacher," they said, "Moses told us that if a man dies without having children, his brother must marry the widow and have children for him.
- Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died, and since he had no children, he left his wife to his brother.
- The same thing happened to the second and third brother, right on down to the seventh.
- Finally, the woman died.

- 칠 형제가 모두 그 여자와 살았으니 부활 때에 그 여자는 누구의 아내가 되겠습니까?"
- 예수께서 이렇게 대답하셨다. "너희는 성서도 모르고 하느님의 권능도 모르니까 그런 잘못된 생각을 하는 것이다.
- 부활한 다음에는 장가드는 일도, 시집가는 일도 없이 하늘에 있는 천사들처럼 된다.
- 죽은 사람의 부활에 관하여 하느님께서 너희에게 하신 말씀을 아직 읽어본 일이 없느냐?
- '나는 아브라함의 하느님이요, 이사악의 하느님이요, 야곱의 하느님이다.' 하시지 않았느냐? 이 말씀은 하느님께서 죽은 이들의 하느님이 아니라 살아 있는 이들의 하느님이라는 뜻이다."

- Now then, at the resurrection, whose wife will she be of the seven, since all of them were married to her?"
- Jesus replied, "You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God.
- At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.
- But about the resurrection of the dead--have you not read what God said to you,
- 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? He is not the God of the dead but of the living."

- 이 말씀을 들은 군중은 예수의 가르침에 탄복하여 마지않았다.

- When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at his teaching.
