- 세리들과 죄인들이 모두 예수의 말씀을 들으려고 모여들었다.
- 이것을 본 바리사이파 사람들과 율법학자들은 "저 사람은 죄인들을 환영하고 그들과 함께 음식까지 나누고 있구나!" 하며 못마땅해 하였다.
- 그래서 예수께서는 그들에게 비유로 말씀하셨다.
- "너희 가운데 누가 양 백 마리를 가지고 있었는데 그 중에서 한 마리를 잃었다면 어떻게 하겠느냐? 아흔아홉 마리는 들판에 그대로 둔 채 잃은 양을 찾아 헤매지 않겠느냐?
- 그러다가 찾게 되면 기뻐서 양을 어깨에 메고

- Now the tax collectors and "sinners" were all gathering around to hear him.
- But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, "This man welcomes sinners and eats with them."
- Then Jesus told them this parable:
- "Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?
- And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders

- 집으로 돌아와 친구들과 이웃을 불러모으고 '자, 같이 기뻐해 주십시오. 잃었던 양을 찾았습니다.' 하며 좋아할 것이다.
- 잘 들어두어라. 이와 같이 회개할 것 없는 의인 아흔아홉보다 죄인 한 사람이 회개하는 것을 하늘에서는 더 기뻐할 것이다."
- "또 어떤 여자에게 은전 열 닢이 있었는데 그 중 한 닢을 잃었다면 어떻게 하겠느냐? 그 여자는 등불을 켜고 집 안을 온통 쓸며 그 돈을 찾기까지 샅샅이 다 뒤져볼 것이다.
- 그러다가 돈을 찾게 되면 자기 친구들과 이웃을 불러모으고 '자, 같이 기뻐해 주십시오. 잃었던 은전을 찾았습니다.' 하고 말할 것이다.
- 잘 들어두어라. 이와 같이 죄인 하나가 회개하면 하느님의 천사들이 기뻐할 것이다."

- and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, 'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.'
- I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.
- "Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Does she not light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it?
- And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, 'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.'
- In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."

- 예수께서 또 말씀하셨다. "어떤 사람이 두 아들을 두었는데
- 작은 아들이 아버지에게 제 몫으로 돌아올 재산을 달라고 청하였다. 그래서 아버지는 재산을 갈라 두 아들에게 나누어주었다.
- 며칠 뒤에 작은 아들은 자기 재산을 다 거두어가지고 먼 고장으로 떠나갔다. 거기서 재산을 마구 뿌리며 방탕한 생활을 하였다.
- 그러다가 돈이 떨어졌는데 마침 그 고장에 심한 흉년까지 들어서 그는 알거지가 되고 말았다.
- 하는 수 없이 그는 그 고장에 사는 어떤 사람의 집에 가서 더부살이를 하게 되었는데 주인은 그를 농장으로 보내어 돼지를 치게 하였다.

- Jesus continued: "There was a man who had two sons.
- The younger one said to his father, 'Father, give me my share of the estate.' So he divided his property between them.
- "Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living.
- After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need.
- So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs.

- 그는 하도 배가 고파서 돼지가 먹는 쥐엄나무 열매로라도 배를 채워보려고 했으나 그에게 먹을 것을 주는 이는 아무도 없었다.
- 그제야 제정신이 든 그는 이렇게 중얼거렸다. '아버지 집에는 양식이 많아서 그 많은 일꾼들이 먹고도 남는데 나는 여기서 굶어 죽게 되었구나!
- 어서 아버지께 돌아가, 아버지, 제가 하늘과 아버지께 죄를 지었습니다.
- 이제 저는 감히 아버지의 아들이라고 할 자격이 없으니 저를 품꾼으로라도 써주십시오 하고 사정해 보리라.'
- 마침내 그는 거기를 떠나 자기 아버지 집으로 발길을 돌렸다. 집으로 돌아오는 아들을 멀리서 본 아버지는 측은한 생각이 들어 달려가 아들의 목을 끌어안고 입을 맞추었다.

- He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything.
- "When he came to his senses, he said, 'How many of my father's hired men have food to spare, and here I am starving to death!
- I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.
- I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired men.'
- So he got up and went to his father. "But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.

- 그러자 아들은 '아버지, 저는 하늘과 아버지께 죄를 지었습니다. 이제 저는 감히 아버지의 아들이라고 할 자격이 없습니다.' 하고 말하였다.
- 그렇지만 아버지는 하인들을 불러 '어서 제일 좋은 옷을 꺼내어 입히고 가락지를 끼우고 신을 신겨주어라.
- 그리고 살진 송아지를 끌어내다 잡아라. 먹고 즐기자!
- 죽었던 내 아들이 다시 살아왔다. 잃었던 아들을 다시 찾았다.' 하고 말했다. 그래서 성대한 잔치가 벌어졌다.
- 밭에 나가 있던 큰아들이 돌아오다가 집 가까이에서 음악 소리와 춤추며 떠드는 소리를 듣고

- "The son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.'
- "But the father said to his servants, 'Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet.
- Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let's have a feast and celebrate.
- For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.' So they began to celebrate.
- "Meanwhile, the older son was in the field. When he came near the house, he heard music and dancing.

- 하인 하나를 불러 어떻게 된 일이냐고 물었다.
- 하인이 '아우님이 돌아왔습니다. 그분이 무사히 돌아오셨다고 주인께서 살진 송아지를 잡게 하셨습니다.' 하고 대답하였다.
- 큰아들은 화가 나서 집에 들어가려 하지 않았다. 그래서 아버지가 나와서 달랬으나
- 그는 아버지에게 '아버지, 저는 이렇게 여러 해 동안 아버지를 위해서 종이나 다름없이 일을 하며 아버지의 명령을 어긴 일이 한 번도 없었습니다. 그런데도 저에게는 친구들과 즐기라고 염소 새끼 한 마리 주지 않으시더니
- 창녀들한테 빠져서 아버지의 재산을 다 날려버린 동생이 돌아오니까 그 아이를 위해서는 살진 송아지까지 잡아주시다니요!' 하고 투덜거렸다.

- So he called one of the servants and asked him what was going on.
- 'Your brother has come,' he replied, 'and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.'
- "The older brother became angry and refused to go in. So his father went out and pleaded with him.
- But he answered his father, 'Look! All these years I've been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends.
- But when this son of yours who has squandered your property with prostitutes comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!'

- 이 말을 듣고 아버지는 '얘야, 너는 늘 나와 함께 있고 내 것이 모두 네 것이 아니냐?
- 그런데 네 동생은 죽었다가 다시 살아왔으니 잃었던 사람을 되찾은 셈이다. 그러니 이 기쁜 날을 어떻게 즐기지 않겠느냐?' 하고 말하였다."

- " 'My son,' the father said, 'you are always with me, and everything I have is yours.
- But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.' "
