여호수아 23:1-24:33

 여호수아는 두 차례에 걸친 고별 설교를 통해 순종과 불순종의 결과를 제시하며 오직 하나님만 섬길 것을 백성들에게 권면했다. 과거의 역사를 회고하며 이스라엘을 위하여 역사하신 하나님을 섬기든지 이방 신을 섬기든지 둘 중의 하나를 택하라고 했다. 이에 백성들은 오직 하나님만을 섬길 것을 결의했다. 여호수아는 하나님과의 언약을 새롭게 한 후 죽었다.
  
  여호수아의 유언(23:1-23:16)    
 
  1. 야훼께서 사방에 있는 원수들을 다 물리치시고 이스라엘에게 안식을 주신 뒤 오랜 세월이 지났다. 여호수아는 나이 많은 노인이 되어,
  2. 온 장로들과 수령들과 법관들과 공무원들, 곧 온 이스라엘을 불러놓고 말하였다. "나는 나이 많아 이렇게 늙었소.
  3. 여러분은 여러분의 하느님 야훼께서 이 모든 민족들을 여러분 앞에서 어떻게 해치우셨는지를 다 보셨소. 여러분의 하느님 야훼께서 몸소 여러분의 편이 되어 싸워주신 것이오.
  4. 보시오. 내가 요르단 강에서부터 해 지는 쪽 대해에까지 이르는 지역에 사는 모든 민족을 치고 남긴 민족들도 여러 지파들에게 유산으로 남기는 바이오.
  5. 여러분의 하느님 야훼께서 몸소 그들을 여러분의 앞에서 쫓아내 주실 것이오. 그들을 여러분 앞에서 몰아내 주시거든, 여러분의 하느님 야훼께서 약속하신 대로 그 땅을 차지하시오.
  1. After a long time had passed and the LORD had given Israel rest from all their enemies around them, Joshua, by then old and well advanced in years,
  2. summoned all Israel--their elders, leaders, judges and officials--and said to them: "I am old and well advanced in years.
  3. You yourselves have seen everything the LORD your God has done to all these nations for your sake; it was the LORD your God who fought for you.
  4. Remember how I have allotted as an inheritance for your tribes all the land of the nations that remain--the nations I conquered--between the Jordan and the Great Sea in the west.
  5. The LORD your God himself will drive them out of your way. He will push them out before you, and you will take possession of their land, as the LORD your God promised you.
  1. 단단히 결심하고 모세의 법전에 기록되어 있는 모든 것을 성심껏 지키시오. 부디 한눈팔거나 곁길로 들어서지 마시오.
  2. 아직 여러분과 함께 남아 있는 민족들과 섞이지 마시오. 그들의 신의 이름을 불러 맹세하지도 말고 그 앞에 엎드려 예배하지도 마시오.
  3. 오늘까지 해온 대로 여러분의 하느님 야훼께만 충성을 바치도록 하시오.
  4. 야훼께서는 수가 많고 억센 민족들을 여러분 앞에서 몰아내 주셨소. 그리하여 여러분과 맞설 자가 오늘까지 하나도 없었던 것이오.
  5. 여러분의 하느님 야훼께서 약속대로 몸소 여러분 편이 되어 싸워주시지 않으셨다면, 어떻게 여러분 한 사람이 천 명을 쫓을 수 있었겠소?
  1. "Be very strong; be careful to obey all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, without turning aside to the right or to the left.
  2. Do not associate with these nations that remain among you; do not invoke the names of their gods or swear by them. You must not serve them or bow down to them.
  3. But you are to hold fast to the LORD your God, as you have until now.
  4. "The LORD has driven out before you great and powerful nations; to this day no one has been able to withstand you.
  5. One of you routs a thousand, because the LORD your God fights for you, just as he promised.
  1. 깊이 명심하고 여러분의 하느님 야훼를 사랑하시오.
  2. 그러지 않고 돌아서서 여러분과 함께 남아 있는 다른 민족들과 한 덩어리가 되어 서로 사돈 관계를 맺어 오고 가고 하면,
  3. 분명히 알아두시오. 여러분의 하느님 야훼께서 이 민족들을 여러분 앞에서 결코 몰아내 주시지 않으실 것이오. 그들은 여러분에게 덫이 되고 올가미가 되며, 옆구리를 후려치는 채찍이 되고 눈에 가시가 될 것이오. 그리하여 여러분은 마침내 여러분의 하느님 야훼께 받은 이 기름진 땅에서 멸절할 것이오.
  4. 보시오. 이제 나는 누구나 가야 하는 마지막 길을 가게 되었소. 아무쪼록 마음속 깊이 뼛속에 새겨두시오. 여러분의 하느님 야훼께서 여러분에게 온갖 좋은 약속을 해주셨는데, 그 가운데서 어느 하나라도 이행되지 않은 것이 있었소? 그대로 안 된 것 하나 없이 모두 이루어졌소.
  5. 이렇게 여러분의 하느님 야훼께서는 약속대로 좋은 일을 다 이루어주셨소. 그렇다면 야훼께서는 어떤 불길한 일도 내리실 수 있소. 여러분의 하느님 야훼께서는 이 기름진 땅을 여러분에게 주셨지만, 또한 여러분을 쓸어버리실 수도 있는 것이오.
  1. So be very careful to love the LORD your God.
  2. "But if you turn away and ally yourselves with the survivors of these nations that remain among you and if you intermarry with them and associate with them,
  3. then you may be sure that the LORD your God will no longer drive out these nations before you. Instead, they will become snares and traps for you, whips on your backs and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from this good land, which the LORD your God has given you.
  4. "Now I am about to go the way of all the earth. You know with all your heart and soul that not one of all the good promises the LORD your God gave you has failed. Every promise has been fulfilled; not one has failed.
  5. But just as every good promise of the LORD your God has come true, so the LORD will bring on you all the evil he has threatened, until he has destroyed you from this good land he has given you.
  1. 여러분이 만일 여러분의 하느님 야훼께서 분부하신 계약을 어기고 다른 신들을 따라가 그 앞에 엎드려 예배하면, 야훼의 분노가 여러분 위에 미칠 것이오. 그리하여 여러분은 야훼께 받은 이 기름진 땅에서 멸절하고 말 것이오."
  1. If you violate the covenant of the LORD your God, which he commanded you, and go and serve other gods and bow down to them, the LORD's anger will burn against you, and you will quickly perish from the good land he has given you."
 
  언약의 갱신(24:1-24:33)    
 
  1. 여호수아는 온 이스라엘 지파들을 세겜으로 소집하였다. 이스라엘의 장로, 어른, 법관, 공무원들이 그의 부름을 받아 하느님 앞에 나서자
  2. 여호수아는 온 백성에게 이렇게 말하였다. "이스라엘의 하느님 야훼께서 말씀하셨소. '옛적에 너희 조상들은 유프라테스 강 건너 저 편에 살고 있을 때 다른 신들을 섬겼었다. 아브라함과 나홀의 아비 데라도 그러했다.
  3. 그런데 나는 그 강 건너 저 편에서 너희의 조상 아브라함을 가나안 땅으로 데려다가 이 땅을 샅샅이 밟게 하고 많은 후손을 보게 해주었다. 그에게 이사악을 주었고
  4. 이사악에게는 야곱과 에사오를 주었다. 그리고 에사오에게는 세일 산을 주어 차지하게 하였다. 야곱과 그의 아들들은 이집트로 내려갔었지만,
  5. 나는 모세와 아론을 보내어 이집트인들을 이집트 본토 안에서 호되게 치고 너희를 구출하였다.
  1. Then Joshua assembled all the tribes of Israel at Shechem. He summoned the elders, leaders, judges and officials of Israel, and they presented themselves before God.
  2. Joshua said to all the people, "This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: 'Long ago your forefathers, including Terah the father of Abraham and Nahor, lived beyond the River and worshiped other gods.
  3. But I took your father Abraham from the land beyond the River and led him throughout Canaan and gave him many descendants. I gave him Isaac,
  4. and to Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau. I assigned the hill country of Seir to Esau, but Jacob and his sons went down to Egypt.
  5. " 'Then I sent Moses and Aaron, and I afflicted the Egyptians by what I did there, and I brought you out.
  1. 이집트에서 구출된 너희의 조상들이 바닷가에 다다랐을 때, 이집트인들이 병거와 말을 타고 그 홍해에까지 너희 조상들을 추격해 왔다.
  2. 그래서 그들은 나 야훼에게 부르짖었다. 나는 너희와 이집트인 사이를 캄캄하게 막고 바닷물로 그들을 덮어버렸다. 내가 이집트에서 어떤 일을 했는지 너희는 눈으로 보았다. 너희가 사막에서 오랜 세월을 지낸 다음,
  3. 나는 너희를 요르단 건너편에 사는 아모리인들의 땅에까지 이끌어 왔다. 그때 그들이 너희를 대항하여 싸웠으나, 나는 그들을 너희의 손에 부쳐 너희가 그 땅을 차지하게 되었다. 내가 그들을 너희 앞에서 몰아내 준 것이다.
  4. 시뽈의 아들, 모압 왕 발락이 이스라엘을 치려고 일어났었다. 그는 너희를 저주하려고 브올의 아들 발람에게 사람을 보내어 그를 불러왔었다.
  5. 그러나 나는 발람의 말을 들어주지 않았다. 그래서 그는 오히려 너희에게 복을 빌어주었다. 나는 이렇게 너희를 그의 손에서 건져주었다.
  1. When I brought your fathers out of Egypt, you came to the sea, and the Egyptians pursued them with chariots and horsemen as far as the Red Sea.
  2. But they cried to the LORD for help, and he put darkness between you and the Egyptians; he brought the sea over them and covered them. You saw with your own eyes what I did to the Egyptians. Then you lived in the desert for a long time.
  3. " 'I brought you to the land of the Amorites who lived east of the Jordan. They fought against you, but I gave them into your hands. I destroyed them from before you, and you took possession of their land.
  4. When Balak son of Zippor, the king of Moab, prepared to fight against Israel, he sent for Balaam son of Beor to put a curse on you.
  5. But I would not listen to Balaam, so he blessed you again and again, and I delivered you out of his hand.
  1. 너희가 요르단 강을 건너 예리고에 다다랐을 때 예리고 시민, 아모리 사람, 브리즈 사람, 가나안 사람, 헷 사람, 기르가스 사람, 히위 사람, 여부스 사람이 너희와 싸웠으나, 나는 그들을 너희의 손에 부쳤다.
  2. 나는 말벌을 너희 선두에 보내어 그들을 너희 앞에서 몰아내었다. 두 아모리 왕을 몰아낸 것은 너희의 칼도, 너희의 화살도 아니었다.
  3. 나는 너희에게 너희가 일구지 않은 땅을 주었고 너희가 세우지 않은 도시들을 주어 살게 하였다. 너희로 하여금 가꾸지 않은 포도와 무화과를 따먹게 해주었다.'
  4. 그러니 여러분은 이제 야훼를 경외하며 일편단심으로 그를 섬기시오. 여러분의 조상들이 유프라테스 강 건너편에서도 섬겼고 이집트에서도 섬겼던 다른 신들을 버리고 야훼를 섬기시오.
  5. 만일 야훼를 섬기고 싶지 않거든, 누구를 섬길 것인지 여러분이 오늘 택하시오. 유프라테스 강 건너편에서 여러분의 조상들이 섬기던 신을 택하든지, 여러분이 들어와서 살고 있는 이 땅 아모리인의 신을 택하든지 결정하시오. 그러나 나와 내 집은 야훼를 섬기겠소."
  1. " 'Then you crossed the Jordan and came to Jericho. The citizens of Jericho fought against you, as did also the Amorites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hittites, Girgashites, Hivites and Jebusites, but I gave them into your hands.
  2. I sent the hornet ahead of you, which drove them out before you--also the two Amorite kings. You did not do it with your own sword and bow.
  3. So I gave you a land on which you did not toil and cities you did not build; and you live in them and eat from vineyards and olive groves that you did not plant.'
  4. "Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your forefathers worshiped beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD.
  5. But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD."
  1. 백성들이 대답하였다. "우리가 야훼를 저버리고 다른 신들을 섬기다니 될 법이나 한 말입니까?
  2. 우리를, 아니 우리 조상들을 이집트 땅 종살이하던 집에서 이끌어내신 분이 바로 우리 하느님 야훼이신데 어찌 그럴 수 있겠습니까? 바로 우리 눈앞에서 그렇듯이 큰 기적들을 보여주시지 않으셨습니까? 그리고 우리가 이리로 오는 도중에 시종 지켜주셨고 우리가 여러 민족들 사이를 뚫고 지나오는 동안 줄곧 지켜주시지 않으셨습니까?
  3. 모든 민족을, 이 땅에 사는 아모리인들까지도 우리 앞에서 몰아내신 분은 야훼십니다. 그러니 우리도 야훼를 섬기겠습니다. 그분이 우리의 하느님이십니다."
  4. 여호수아가 백성에게 말하였다. "야훼께서 얼마나 준엄하신 하느님이신데, 여러분이 감히 그를 섬기겠소? 그분은 질투하는 신이시오. 여러분이 고의로든 실수로든 죄를 지으면, 그것을 용서하시지 않으실 것이오.
  5. 야훼께서 여태까지는 여러분에게 잘해 주셨지만, 여러분이 만일 이제라도 그를 버리고 남의 나라 신을 섬긴다면, 반드시 앙화를 내려 여러분을 멸망시켜 버리실 것이오."
  1. Then the people answered, "Far be it from us to forsake the LORD to serve other gods!
  2. It was the LORD our God himself who brought us and our fathers up out of Egypt, from that land of slavery, and performed those great signs before our eyes. He protected us on our entire journey and among all the nations through which we traveled.
  3. And the LORD drove out before us all the nations, including the Amorites, who lived in the land. We too will serve the LORD, because he is our God."
  4. Joshua said to the people, "You are not able to serve the LORD. He is a holy God; he is a jealous God. He will not forgive your rebellion and your sins.
  5. If you forsake the LORD and serve foreign gods, he will turn and bring disaster on you and make an end of you, after he has been good to you."
  1. 백성들이 여호수아에게 "그럴 수 없습니다. 우리는 야훼를 섬기겠습니다." 하고 대답하자,
  2. 여호수아가 백성에게 말하였다. "여러분이 야훼를 택하고 그를 섬기겠다고 한 그 말의 증인은 바로 여러분이오." 그들이 대답하였다. "우리가 증인입니다."
  3. 여호수아가 말하였다. "그러면 이제 여러분은 여러분 가운데 있는 남의 나라 신들을 버리고 이스라엘의 신 야훼께 마음을 바치시오."
  4. 백성이 여호수아에게 다짐하였다. "우리는 우리의 하느님 야훼를 섬기고 그의 말씀을 따르겠습니다."
  5. 그 날 여호수아는 세겜에서 백성과 계약을 맺고 그들을 위하여 규정과 법을 주었다.
  1. But the people said to Joshua, "No! We will serve the LORD."
  2. Then Joshua said, "You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen to serve the LORD." "Yes, we are witnesses," they replied.
  3. "Now then," said Joshua, "throw away the foreign gods that are among you and yield your hearts to the LORD, the God of Israel."
  4. And the people said to Joshua, "We will serve the LORD our God and obey him."
  5. On that day Joshua made a covenant for the people, and there at Shechem he drew up for them decrees and laws.
  1. 여호수아는 그 모든 말을 하느님의 법전에 기록하였다. 그리고 큰 돌을 가져다가 거기 야훼의 성소에 있는 상수리나무 아래 세우고
  2. 온 백성에게 일렀다. "보시오, 이 돌이 우리에게 증거가 될 것이오. 이 돌은 야훼께서 우리에게 하신 말씀을 다 들었소. 여러분이 여러분의 하느님을 속이지 못하게 이 돌이 여러분에게 증거가 될 것이오."
  3. 여호수아는 백성을 각기 유산으로 준 땅으로 돌려보냈다.
  4. 이 일을 마친 다음 야훼의 종, 눈의 아들 여호수아는 죽었다. 그의 나이 백십 세였다.
  5. 그는 가스 산 북쪽 에브라임 산악 지대의 유산으로 받은 딤낫세라에 묻혔다.
  1. And Joshua recorded these things in the Book of the Law of God. Then he took a large stone and set it up there under the oak near the holy place of the LORD.
  2. "See!" he said to all the people. "This stone will be a witness against us. It has heard all the words the LORD has said to us. It will be a witness against you if you are untrue to your God."
  3. Then Joshua sent the people away, each to his own inheritance.
  4. After these things, Joshua son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died at the age of a hundred and ten.
  5. And they buried him in the land of his inheritance, at Timnath Serah in the hill country of Ephraim, north of Mount Gaash.
  1. 이스라엘은 여호수아의 생전에 줄곧 야훼를 섬겼다. 여호수아가 죽은 다음에도 야훼께서 이스라엘에게 해주신 모든 일을 겪어 아는 장로들이 살아 있는 동안 그들은 줄곧 야훼를 섬겼다.
  2. 이스라엘 백성은 이집트에서 모셔 온 요셉의 유해를 세겜에 묻었다. 그 곳은 야곱이 백 냥을 주고 세겜의 조상 하몰의 후손에게서 산 밭, 요셉 후손의 유산이 된 곳이었다.
  3. 아론의 아들 엘르아잘도 죽었다. 그는 자기 아들 비느하스의 성, 기브아에 묻혔는데 그 성은 에브라임 산악 지대에서 그의 아들이 받은 것이었다.
  1. Israel served the LORD throughout the lifetime of Joshua and of the elders who outlived him and who had experienced everything the LORD had done for Israel.
  2. And Joseph's bones, which the Israelites had brought up from Egypt, were buried at Shechem in the tract of land that Jacob bought for a hundred pieces of silver from the sons of Hamor, the father of Shechem. This became the inheritance of Joseph's descendants.
  3. And Eleazar son of Aaron died and was buried at Gibeah, which had been allotted to his son Phinehas in the hill country of Ephraim.
