- 다음날 요한은 예수께서 자기한테 오시는 것을 보고 이렇게 말하였다. "이 세상의 죄를 없애시는 하느님의 어린 양이 저기 오신다.
- 내가 전에 내 뒤에 오시는 분이 한 분 계신데 그분은 사실은 내가 태어나기 전부터 계셨기 때문에 나보다 앞서신 분이라고 말한 것은 바로 이분을 두고 한 말이었다.
- 나도 이분이 누구신지 몰랐다. 그러나 내가 와서 물로 세례를 베푼 것은 이분을 이스라엘에게 알리려는 것이었다."
- 요한은 또 증언하였다. "나는 성령이 하늘에서 비둘기 모양으로 내려와 이분 위에 머무르는 것을 보았다.
- 나는 이분이 누구신지 몰랐다. 그러나 물로 세례를 베풀라고 나를 보내신 분이 '성령이 내려와서 어떤 사람 위에 머무르는 것을 보거든 그가 바로 성령으로 세례를 베푸실 분인 줄 알아라.' 하고 말씀해 주셨다.

- The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
- This is the one I meant when I said, 'A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.'
- I myself did not know him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed to Israel."
- Then John gave this testimony: "I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him.
- I would not have known him, except that the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, 'The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is he who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.'

- 과연 나는 그 광경을 보았다. 그래서 나는 지금 이분이 하느님의 아드님이시라고 증언하는 것이다."
- 다음날 요한이 자기 제자 두 사람과 함께 다시 그 곳에 서 있다가
- 마침 예수께서 걸어가시는 것을 보고 "하느님의 어린 양이 저기 가신다." 하고 말하였다.
- 그 두 제자는 요한의 말을 듣고 예수를 따라갔다.
- 예수께서는 뒤돌아 서서 그들이 따라오는 것을 보시고 "너희가 바라는 것이 무엇이냐?" 하고 물으셨다. 그들은 "라삐, 묵고 계시는 데가 어딘지 알고 싶습니다" 하고 말하였다. (라삐는 선생님이라는 뜻이다.)

- I have seen and I testify that this is the Son of God."
- The next day John was there again with two of his disciples.
- When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, "Look, the Lamb of God!"
- When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus.
- Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, "What do you want?" They said, "Rabbi" (which means Teacher), "where are you staying?"

- 예수께서 와서 보라고 하시자 그들은 따라가서 예수께서 계시는 곳을 보고 그 날은 거기에서 예수와 함께 지냈다. 때는 네 시쯤이었다.
- 요한의 말을 듣고 예수를 따라간 두 사람 중의 하나는 시몬 베드로의 동생 안드레아였다.
- 그는 먼저 자기 형 시몬을 찾아가 "우리가 찾던 메시아를 만났소." 하고 말하였다. (메시아는 그리스도라는 뜻이다.)
- 그리고 시몬을 예수께 데리고 가자 예수께서 시몬을 눈여겨보시며 "너는 요한의 아들 시몬이 아니냐? 앞으로는 너를 게파라 부르겠다." 하고 말씀하셨다. (게파는 베드로 곧 바위라는 뜻이다.)
- 그 이튿날 예수께서 갈릴래아로 떠나가시려던 참에 필립보를 만나 "나를 따라오너라." 하고 부르셨다.

- "Come," he replied, "and you will see." So they went and saw where he was staying, and spent that day with him. It was about the tenth hour.
- Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus.
- The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, "We have found the Messiah" (that is, the Christ).
- And he brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, "You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas" (which, when translated, is Peter).
- The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, he said to him, "Follow me."

- 필립보는 베싸이다 출신으로 안드레아와 베드로와 한 고향 사람이다.
- 그가 나타나엘을 찾아가서 "우리는 모세의 율법서와 예언자들의 글에 기록되어 있는 분을 만났소. 그분은 요셉의 아들 예수인데 나자렛 사람이오." 하고 말하였다.
- 그러나 그는 "나자렛에서 무슨 신통한 것이 나올 수 있겠소?" 하고 물었다. 그래서 필립보는 나타나엘에게 와서 보라고 권하였다.
- 예수께서는 나타나엘이 가까이 오는 것을 보시고 "이 사람이야말로 정말 이스라엘 사람이다. 그에게는 거짓이 조금도 없다." 하고 말씀하셨다.
- 나타나엘이 예수께 "어떻게 저를 아십니까?" 하고 물었다. "필립보가 너를 찾아가기 전에 네가 무화과나무 아래 있는 것을 보았다." 예수께서 이렇게 대답하시자

- Philip, like Andrew and Peter, was from the town of Bethsaida.
- Philip found Nathanael and told him, "We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote--Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph."
- "Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?" Nathanael asked. "Come and see," said Philip.
- When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, "Here is a true Israelite, in whom there is nothing false."
- "How do you know me?" Nathanael asked. Jesus answered, "I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you."

- 나타나엘은 "선생님, 선생님은 하느님의 아들이시며 이스라엘의 왕이십니다." 하고 말하였다.
- 예수께서는 "네가 무화과나무 아래 있는 것을 보았다고 해서 나를 믿느냐? 앞으로는 그보다 더 큰 일을 보게 될 것이다." 하시고
- "정말 잘 들어두어라. 너희는 하늘이 열려 있는 것과 하느님의 천사들이 하늘과 사람의 아들 사이를 오르내리는 것을 보게 될 것이다." 하고 말씀하셨다.

- Then Nathanael declared, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel."
- Jesus said, "You believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You shall see greater things than that."
- He then added, "I tell you the truth, you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man."
