룻기

  본서는 사사 시대를 배경으로 기록되었으나, 그 시대의 타락상과는 대조적으로 아름다운 이야기를 들려 주고 있다. 룻은 이방 모압 여인이었지만, 이스라엘의 왕인 다윗의 조상이 되는 영예를 누린다. 이것은 하나님의 나라에 참여하는 것이 혈연에 의한 것이 아니라, 오직 믿음으로 말미암은 순종을 통하여 결정된다는 것을 보여 준다.

  젊은 과부 룻은 시어머니 나오미를 헌신적으로 봉양하며 시어머니가 섬기는 하나님을 믿는다. 이러한 룻에게 하나님께서는 새로운 남편 보아스를 주시고 그를 통해 아들 오벳을 얻게 하심으로써 다윗의 증조모가 되게 하신다.

 

 

룻기 1:1-2:23

 유다 베들레헴을 떠나 모압에 거하던 나오미는 남편과 두 아들이 죽자 고향으로 돌아갈 것을 결심하고 두 며느리 오르바와 룻에게 친정으로 갈 것을 권했다. 그러나 룻은 나오미를 따라 베들레헴으로 갔고, 그 곳에서 이삭을 줍던 룻은 근족인 보아스의 호의를 입게 되었다.
  
  나오미의 두 자부(1:1-1:22)    
 
  1. 영웅들이 세상을 다스리던 시대에 나라에 기근이 든 일이 있었다. 그 때 유다 베들레헴에 살던 한 사람이 모압 시골에 가서 몸붙여 살려고 아내와 두 아들을 거느리고 길을 떠났다.
  2. 그 사람의 이름은 엘리멜렉이며 아내는 나오미, 두 아들은 마흘론과 길룐이었는데, 그들은 유다 베들레헴 태생으로서 에브랏 집안 사람들이었다. 모압 시골에 가서 얼마 동안 지내다가
  3. 나오미의 남편 엘리멜렉은 아내 나오미와 두 아들을 남기고 세상을 떠났다.
  4. 그 뒤 두 아들은 모압 여자를 아내로 맞았는데 하나는 오르바요, 다른 하나는 룻이었다. 거기에서 십 년쯤 살다가,
  5. 마흘론과 길룐 두 사람도 세상을 떠났다. 이리하여 나오미는 남편을 여읜데다 두 아들마저 잃고 말았다.
  1. In the days when the judges ruled, there was a famine in the land, and a man from Bethlehem in Judah, together with his wife and two sons, went to live for a while in the country of Moab.
  2. The man's name was Elimelech, his wife's name Naomi, and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Kilion. They were Ephrathites from Bethlehem, Judah. And they went to Moab and lived there.
  3. Now Elimelech, Naomi's husband, died, and she was left with her two sons.
  4. They married Moabite women, one named Orpah and the other Ruth. After they had lived there about ten years,
  5. both Mahlon and Kilion also died, and Naomi was left without her two sons and her husband.
  1. 그 무렵 야훼께서 당신의 백성을 돌보시어 풍년이 들었다는 소식이 모압 시골에 들려왔다. 나오미는 그 소식을 듣고 두 며느리와 함께 모압 시골을 떠나 고향으로 돌아가기로 하였다.
  2. 나오미는 두 며느리를 거느리고 살던 고장을 떠나 유다 지방을 향하여 길을 떠나가다가
  3. 두 며느리에게 이제 친정으로 돌아들 가라고 하며 이렇게 말했다. "너희가 죽은 내 아들들과 나에게 그토록 고맙게 해주었으니, 야훼께서도 그처럼 너희를 보살펴 주시기를 바란다.
  4. 너희 둘 다 새 남편을 맞아 보금자리를 꾸밀 수 있게 해주시겠지." 그리고는 두 며느리를 끌어안자 두 며느리는 울음을 터뜨리며
  5. 말했다. "안 됩니다. 저희는 어머님을 모시고 어머님 겨레의 품으로 돌아가겠습니다."
  1. When she heard in Moab that the LORD had come to the aid of his people by providing food for them, Naomi and her daughters-in-law prepared to return home from there.
  2. With her two daughters-in-law she left the place where she had been living and set out on the road that would take them back to the land of Judah.
  3. Then Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, "Go back, each of you, to your mother's home. May the LORD show kindness to you, as you have shown to your dead and to me.
  4. May the LORD grant that each of you will find rest in the home of another husband." Then she kissed them and they wept aloud
  5. and said to her, "We will go back with you to your people."
  1. "너희는 돌아가야 한다, 얘들아. 어쩌자고 나를 따라가겠다고 하느냐?" 하며 나오미는 며느리들을 타일렀다. "내 태중에 너희 남편이 될 자식이라도 있는 줄 아느냐?
  2. 악아, 어서 돌아들 가거라. 나는 이렇게 늙어 이젠 재혼할 수도 없는 몸이다. 나에게 무슨 희망이 더 있겠느냐? 오늘 밤에라도 내가 남편을 맞아 자식을 낳는다 하자.
  3. 그것들이 자랄 때까지 기다릴 수야 없지 않겠느냐? 그걸 바라고 재혼도 하지 않고 어떻게 지낼 작정이냐? 악아, 그건 안 될 말이다. 제발 나를 더 괴롭히지 말아다오. 나는 이처럼 야훼께 얻어맞은 신세란다."
  4. 그들은 다시 소리내어 울었다. 그리고 오르바는 시어머니를 껴안고 작별 인사를 하고 나서 자기 겨레에게로 돌아갔다. 그러나 룻은 시어머니 곁을 떠나려 하지 않았다.
  5. 나오미가 다시 타일렀다. "보아라, 네 동서는 제 겨레와 제 신에게 돌아가지 않았느냐? 그러니 너도 네 동서를 따라 돌아가거라."
  1. But Naomi said, "Return home, my daughters. Why would you come with me? Am I going to have any more sons, who could become your husbands?
  2. Return home, my daughters; I am too old to have another husband. Even if I thought there was still hope for me--even if I had a husband tonight and then gave birth to sons-
  3. would you wait until they grew up? Would you remain unmarried for them? No, my daughters. It is more bitter for me than for you, because the LORD's hand has gone out against me!"
  4. At this they wept again. Then Orpah kissed her mother-in-law good-by, but Ruth clung to her.
  5. "Look," said Naomi, "your sister-in-law is going back to her people and her gods. Go back with her."
  1. "저에게 어머님을 버려두고 혼자 돌아가라고 너무 성화하시지 마십시오." 하며 룻이 말했다. "어머님 가시는 곳으로 저도 가겠으며, 어머님 머무시는 곳에 저도 머물겠습니다. 어머님의 겨레가 제 겨레요 어머님의 하느님이 제 하느님이십니다.
  2. 어머님이 눈 감으시는 곳에서 저도 눈을 감고 어머님 곁에 같이 묻히렵니다. 어떠한 일이 있어도 안 됩니다. 죽음밖에는 아무도 저를 어머님에게서 떼어내지 못합니다."
  3. 이토록 끝내 따라 나서겠다고 버티자 나오미는 더 할 말이 없었다.
  4. 그리하여 둘은 길을 떠나 마침내 베들레헴에 다다랐다. 두 사람이 베들레헴에 들어서는 것을 보고 아낙네들은 "이 사람은 나오미가 아니야?" 하며 떠들썩했다.
  5. 그러나 나오미는 그들에게 이렇게 말했다. "이제 나를 나오미라고 부르지들 말아요. 사따이 신께서 나에게 쓰라림을 가득 안겨주셨다오. 그러니 나를 마라라고나 불러주어요.
  1. But Ruth replied, "Don't urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.
  2. Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the LORD deal with me, be it ever so severely, if anything but death separates you and me."
  3. When Naomi realized that Ruth was determined to go with her, she stopped urging her.
  4. So the two women went on until they came to Bethlehem. When they arrived in Bethlehem, the whole town was stirred because of them, and the women exclaimed, "Can this be Naomi?"
  5. "Don't call me Naomi, " she told them. "Call me Mara, because the Almighty has made my life very bitter.
  1. 떠날 때는 아쉬운 것 하나 없었건만, 야훼께서는 나를 빈손으로 돌아오게 하셨다오. 그런데 어찌 나를 나오미라 부르시오? 야훼께서는 나의 허물을 들추어내셨다오. 사따이 신께서는 이렇듯이 나에게 불행을 안겨주셨다오."
  2. 이렇게 나오미는 모압 시골을 떠나 모압 사람인 며느리 룻을 데리고 돌아온 것이다. 그들이 베들레헴에 도착한 것은 보리를 거두어들일 무렵이었다.
  1. I went away full, but the LORD has brought me back empty. Why call me Naomi? The LORD has afflicted me; the Almighty has brought misfortune upon me."
  2. So Naomi returned from Moab accompanied by Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter-in-law, arriving in Bethlehem as the barley harvest was beginning.
 
  룻과 보아스의 대면(2:1-2:23)    
 
  1. 나오미는 남편 쪽으로 친척이 한 사람 있었다. 그는 엘리멜렉의 일가로서 유력한 재산가였는데 이름은 보아즈라 했다.
  2. 하루는 모압 여자 룻이 나오미에게 청했다. "저를 밭에 나가게 해주세요. 행여 무던한 사람이라도 만나면, 그의 뒤를 따르며 이삭이라도 주워 오고 싶어요." 나오미가 룻에게 허락을 내렸다.
  3. 룻이 밭에 나가 추수하는 일꾼들의 뒤를 따르며 이삭을 줍는데, 공교롭게도 그 밭은 엘리멜렉의 일가인 보아즈의 것이었다.
  4. 때마침 보아즈가 베들레헴에서 와서 "야훼께서 자네들과 함께 하여주시기를 바라네." 하며 추수하는 일꾼들에게 인사를 하고 있었다. "야훼께 복을 받으십시오." 하고 일꾼들이 대답했다.
  5. 보아즈는 추수하는 일꾼들을 감독하는 한 머슴에게 물었다. "저 젊은 여자는 뉘 댁인가?"
  1. Now Naomi had a relative on her husband's side, from the clan of Elimelech, a man of standing, whose name was Boaz.
  2. And Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, "Let me go to the fields and pick up the leftover grain behind anyone in whose eyes I find favor." Naomi said to her, "Go ahead, my daughter."
  3. So she went out and began to glean in the fields behind the harvesters. As it turned out, she found herself working in a field belonging to Boaz, who was from the clan of Elimelech.
  4. Just then Boaz arrived from Bethlehem and greeted the harvesters, "The LORD be with you!" "The LORD bless you!" they called back.
  5. Boaz asked the foreman of his harvesters, "Whose young woman is that?"
  1. 일꾼들을 감독하던 머슴이 대답했다. "저 젊은 여자는 나오미와 함께 모압 시골에서 돌아온 모압 여자입니다.
  2. 일꾼들이 거두면서 흘린 이삭을 뒤따르며 줍게 해달라고 사정하더군요. 아침에 와서 지금까지 앉지도 않고 이삭을 줍고 있습니다."
  3. 보아즈가 룻에게 말했다. "악아, 내 말이 들리지? 다른 사람 밭에는 이삭을 주우러 갈 것 없다. 여기서 다른 데로 가지 말고 우리 집 아낙네들과 어울려 다녀라.
  4. 추수하고 있는 밭에서 한눈 팔지 말고 이 아낙네들의 뒤를 따르며 이삭을 주워라. 머슴들이 너를 성가시게 못하도록 분명히 일러두마. 목이 마르거든 머슴들이 항아리에 길어다 둔 물이 있으니, 가서 마셔라."
  5. 그러자 룻은 땅에 엎드려 절하며 말했다. "어찌하여 저를 이렇게까지 귀엽게 보아주시고 마음을 써주십니까? 저는 한낱 이국 여자에 지나지 않습니다."
  1. The foreman replied, "She is the Moabitess who came back from Moab with Naomi.
  2. She said, 'Please let me glean and gather among the sheaves behind the harvesters.' She went into the field and has worked steadily from morning till now, except for a short rest in the shelter."
  3. So Boaz said to Ruth, "My daughter, listen to me. Don't go and glean in another field and don't go away from here. Stay here with my servant girls.
  4. Watch the field where the men are harvesting, and follow along after the girls. I have told the men not to touch you. And whenever you are thirsty, go and get a drink from the water jars the men have filled."
  5. At this, she bowed down with her face to the ground. She exclaimed, "Why have I found such favor in your eyes that you notice me--a foreigner?"
  1. 보아즈가 말했다. "나는 다 들었다. 네가 남편이 세상을 뜬 뒤에도 시어머니를 극진히 모시었고 고향을 버리고 부모를 떠나 낯선 이 백성에게로 왔다는 말을 들었다.
  2. 네가 그렇게도 갸륵하게 행하였는데, 어찌 야훼께서 갚아주시지 않겠느냐? 네가 이스라엘의 하느님 야훼의 날개 아래로 안식처를 찾아왔으니, 너에게 넉넉하게 갚아주실 것이다."
  3. 룻은 "부디 저를 귀엽게 보아주십시오. 저는 댁의 여느 여종만도 못한 몸인데도 이렇게 다정스런 말씀으로 용기를 주시는군요." 하며 고마워했다.
  4. 식사 때가 되어 보아즈가 룻에게 권했다. "이리 와 빵을 떼어 이 시큼한 술에 찍어 먹어라." 그리하여 룻은 추수하는 일꾼들 옆에 앉았다. 보아즈는 룻에게 밀청대를 배불리 먹고도 남을 만큼 집어주었다.
  5. 룻이 다시 이삭을 주우려고 일어서는데, 보아즈가 머슴들에게 명령을 내렸다. "저 여자가 보릿단 사이로 돌아다니며 이삭을 줍더라도 나무라지 마라.
  1. Boaz replied, "I've been told all about what you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband--how you left your father and mother and your homeland and came to live with a people you did not know before.
  2. May the LORD repay you for what you have done. May you be richly rewarded by the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge."
  3. "May I continue to find favor in your eyes, my lord," she said. "You have given me comfort and have spoken kindly to your servant--though I do not have the standing of one of your servant girls."
  4. At mealtime Boaz said to her, "Come over here. Have some bread and dip it in the wine vinegar." When she sat down with the harvesters, he offered her some roasted grain. She ate all she wanted and had some left over.
  5. As she got up to glean, Boaz gave orders to his men, "Even if she gathers among the sheaves, don't embarrass her.
  1. 숫제 보릿단에서 이삭을 빼내어 흘려주어라. 그리고 그것을 줍더라도 야단치지 마라."
  2. 룻이 저녁때까지 주운 이삭을 털어보니 보리가 한 에바나 되었다.
  3. 룻은 그것을 메고 마을로 돌아가 시어머니에게 보이고 나서, 배불리 먹고 남겨온 음식도 꺼내드렸다.
  4. 시어머니가 물었다. "오늘 어디에서 이삭을 주웠느냐? 어디서 일을 했느냐? 너에게 이렇게도 마음을 써주신 그분이 복을 받지 못하면 누가 받겠느냐?" 룻이 "오늘 제가 이삭을 주운 밭 주인은 보아즈라고 하더군요." 하며 자기가 누구네 밭에서 이삭을 주웠는지를 시어머니에게 밝히자
  5. 나오미가 며느리에게 말했다. "그분은 산 사람에게나 죽은 사람에게나 한결같이 고맙게 대하시는구나. 그분이 야훼께 복받지 못하면, 누가 복을 받겠느냐? 그분은 우리와는 가까운 일가이다. 우리를 떠맡아 줄 사람 가운데 한 분이다."
  1. Rather, pull out some stalks for her from the bundles and leave them for her to pick up, and don't rebuke her."
  2. So Ruth gleaned in the field until evening. Then she threshed the barley she had gathered, and it amounted to about an ephah.
  3. She carried it back to town, and her mother-in-law saw how much she had gathered. Ruth also brought out and gave her what she had left over after she had eaten enough.
  4. Her mother-in-law asked her, "Where did you glean today? Where did you work? Blessed be the man who took notice of you!" Then Ruth told her mother-in-law about the one at whose place she had been working. "The name of the man I worked with today is Boaz," she said.
  5. "The LORD bless him!" Naomi said to her daughter-in-law. "He has not stopped showing his kindness to the living and the dead." She added, "That man is our close relative; he is one of our kinsman-redeemers."
  1. 룻이 시어머니에게, 보아즈가 추수가 끝날 때까지 자기네 집 아낙네들과 함께 어울려 다니도록 하였다고 말하니
  2. 나오미는 "악아, 네가 그 댁 아낙네들과 함께 일하러 나가게 되었다니, 참 잘되었다. 다른 밭에 갔다가 남자들에게 욕을 당할 염려가 없게 되었구나." 하고 며느리에게 말했다.
  3. 이리하여 룻은 보리와 밀 추수가 끝날 때까지 보아즈 집안의 아낙네들과 어울려 다니며 이삭을 주워 시어머니를 모시며 살았다.
  1. Then Ruth the Moabitess said, "He even said to me, 'Stay with my workers until they finish harvesting all my grain.' "
  2. Naomi said to Ruth her daughter-in-law, "It will be good for you, my daughter, to go with his girls, because in someone else's field you might be harmed."
  3. So Ruth stayed close to the servant girls of Boaz to glean until the barley and wheat harvests were finished. And she lived with her mother-in-law.
