- 그 뒤 바울로는 데르베에 들렀다가 리스트라로 갔다. 그런데 리스트라에는 디모테오라는 신도가 있었다. 그의 어머니는 예수를 믿는 유다 여자였으나 아버지는 그리스 사람이었다.
- 디모테오는 리스트라와 이고니온에 있는 교우들 사이에서 평판이 좋은 사람이었다.
- 그래서 바울로는 이 디모테오를 데리고 떠날 생각이었다. 그러나 그 고장에 있는 모든 유다인들이 디모테오의 아버지가 그리스 사람이라는 것을 알고 있었기 때문에 혹시 말썽이 날까봐 먼저 디모테오를 데려다가 할례를 베풀었다.
- 바울로 일행은 여러 도시를 두루 다니면서 예루살렘에 있는 사도들과 원로들이 정한 규정들을 전해 주며 지키라고 하였다.
- 그래서 교회들은 믿음이 점점 더 굳건해졌으며 신도의 수효는 나날이 늘어갔다.

- He came to Derbe and then to Lystra, where a disciple named Timothy lived, whose mother was a Jewess and a believer, but whose father was a Greek.
- The brothers at Lystra and Iconium spoke well of him.
- Paul wanted to take him along on the journey, so he circumcised him because of the Jews who lived in that area, for they all knew that his father was a Greek.
- As they traveled from town to town, they delivered the decisions reached by the apostles and elders in Jerusalem for the people to obey.
- So the churches were strengthened in the faith and grew daily in numbers.

- 그들은 성령께서 아시아에서 말씀을 전하지 못하게 하시므로 프리기아와 갈라디아 지방을 두루 다니다가
- 미시아에 이르러 비티니아 지방으로 들어가려고 하였으나 예수의 성령이 그것을 허락하지 않으셨다.
- 그래서 미시아를 그냥 지나쳐서 트로아스로 내려갔다.
- 어느 날 밤 바울로는 거기에서 신비로운 영상을 보았다. 마케도니아 사람 하나가 바울로 앞에 서서 "마케도니아로 건너와서 우리를 도와주십시오." 하고 간청하였던 것이다.
- 바울로가 그 영상을 보고 난 뒤에 우리는 곧 마케도니아로 떠날 채비를 서둘렀다. 마케도니아 사람들에게 복음을 전하게 하시려고 하느님께서 우리를 부르신 것이라고 믿었기 때문이다.

- Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia.
- When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to.
- So they passed by Mysia and went down to Troas.
- During the night Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia standing and begging him, "Come over to Macedonia and help us."
- After Paul had seen the vision, we got ready at once to leave for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.

- 우리는 배를 타고 트로아스를 떠나 사모드라게로 직행하여 이튿날 네아폴리스로 갔다가
- 거기에서 다시 필립비로 갔다. 그 곳은 마케도니아의 첫 지방의 도시로서 로마의 식민지였다. 우리는 며칠 동안 이 도시에 머물러 있었다.
- 안식일이 되어 우리는 성문 밖으로 나가 유다인의 기도처가 있으리라고 짐작되는 강가에 이르렀다. 그리고 거기에 앉아서 모여든 여자들에게 말씀을 전하였다.
- 그들 가운데는 리디아라는 여자가 있었는데 그는 티아디라 출신으로 자색 옷감 장수였고 하느님을 공경하는 여자였다. 주께서는 그 여자의 마음을 열어 바울로의 말을 귀담아듣게 하셨다.
- 리디아는 온 집안 식구와 함께 세례를 받고 나서 "정말 저를 주님의 충실한 신도로 여기신다면 제 집에 오셔서 머물러주십시오." 하고 간청하면서 우리를 자기 집으로 데리고 갔다.

- From Troas we put out to sea and sailed straight for Samothrace, and the next day on to Neapolis.
- From there we traveled to Philippi, a Roman colony and the leading city of that district of Macedonia. And we stayed there several days.
- On the Sabbath we went outside the city gate to the river, where we expected to find a place of prayer. We sat down and began to speak to the women who had gathered there.
- One of those listening was a woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul's message.
- When she and the members of her household were baptized, she invited us to her home. "If you consider me a believer in the Lord," she said, "come and stay at my house." And she persuaded us.
