열왕기하 3:1-4:44

 이스라엘 왕 여호람은 유다의 여호사밧 왕과 연합하여 모압 원정에 나섰고, 엘리사의 도움을 받아 하나님의 초자연적인 역사로 승리를 거두었다. 엘리사는 가난한 과부의 가정에 기적을 베풀어 도와주고 수넴 여인의 죽은 아들을 다시 살리는 등 놀라운 이적을 행하였다.
  
  여호람의 모압 정벌(3:1-3:27)    
 
  1. 유다 왕 여호사밧 제십팔년에 아합의 아들 여호람이 사마리아에서 이스라엘 왕위에 올라 십이 년을 다스렸다.
  2. 그는 야훼의 눈에 거슬리는 일을 하였지만 그의 부모처럼 악하지는 않았다. 그는 부왕이 만든 바알의 주상을 철거하였던 것이다.
  3. 그러나 이스라엘을 죄에 빠뜨린 느밧의 아들 여로보암이 저질렀던 것과 같은 죄에 매여 그것을 떨쳐버리지는 못하였다.
  4. 모압 왕 메사는 목축을 하는 사람으로서 이스라엘 왕에게 암양 십만 마리의 털과 숫양 십만 마리의 털을 조공으로 바쳐왔었다.
  5. 그러다가 아합 왕이 죽자 모압 왕은 이스라엘 왕에게 반기를 들었다.
  1. Joram son of Ahab became king of Israel in Samaria in the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and he reigned twelve years.
  2. He did evil in the eyes of the LORD, but not as his father and mother had done. He got rid of the sacred stone of Baal that his father had made.
  3. Nevertheless he clung to the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he had caused Israel to commit; he did not turn away from them.
  4. Now Mesha king of Moab raised sheep, and he had to supply the king of Israel with a hundred thousand lambs and with the wool of a hundred thousand rams.
  5. But after Ahab died, the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.
  1. 여호람 왕은 즉각 사마리아를 떠나 이스라엘 군을 총동원하여 출정하는
  2. 한편, 유다 왕 여호사밧에게 전갈을 보냈다. "모압 왕이 나에게 반기를 들었습니다. 내가 모압을 치러 갈 터인데 당신도 함께 가서 싸워주시지 않겠습니까?" 유다 왕이 대답하였다. "함께 가겠습니다. 우리가 내 것 네 것 찾을 사이입니까? 내 군대 네 군대, 내 군마 네 군마 따질 사이입니까?
  3. 어느 길로 쳐들어가는 것이 좋겠습니까?" 그가 대답하였다. "에돔 광야를 통과합시다."
  4. 그리하여 이스라엘 왕, 유다 왕, 에돔 왕이 함께 출정하였다. 돌아가는 길로 칠 일 동안 행군하였는데 그만 군인들과 데리고 가는 짐승들이 마실 물이 떨어졌다.
  5. 이스라엘 왕이 걱정을 하였다. "큰일 났다. 야훼께서 우리 세 왕을 끌어내셔서 모압 군대의 밥이 되게 하셨구나."
  1. So at that time King Joram set out from Samaria and mobilized all Israel.
  2. He also sent this message to Jehoshaphat king of Judah: "The king of Moab has rebelled against me. Will you go with me to fight against Moab?" "I will go with you," he replied. "I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses."
  3. "By what route shall we attack?" he asked. "Through the Desert of Edom," he answered.
  4. So the king of Israel set out with the king of Judah and the king of Edom. After a roundabout march of seven days, the army had no more water for themselves or for the animals with them.
  5. "What!" exclaimed the king of Israel. "Has the LORD called us three kings together only to hand us over to Moab?"

  3. 엘리사가 이스라엘 왕에게 말하였다. "나에게 무슨 볼일이 있습니까? 당신의 아버지와 어머니의 예언자들에게나 가보십시오." 그러나 이스라엘 왕은 그에게, "아니오. 야훼께서 우리 세 왕을 불러내시어 모압 군대의 밥이 되게 하셨소." 하고 말하였다.
  4. 엘리사가 대답하였다. "내가 모시는 만군의 야훼께서 살아 계시오. 어찌 내가 당신을 거들떠보기라도 하겠습니까마는, 유다 왕 여호사밧의 낯을 보아서 청을 들어드리겠습니다.
  5. 수금 뜯는 사람을 불러주십시오." 그래서 수금 뜯는 사람이 와서 수금을 뜯는 동안, 엘리사는 야훼의 힘에 사로잡혀
  1. But Jehoshaphat asked, "Is there no prophet of the LORD here, that we may inquire of the LORD through him?" An officer of the king of Israel answered, "Elisha son of Shaphat is here. He used to pour water on the hands of Elijah. "
  2. Jehoshaphat said, "The word of the LORD is with him." So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.
  3. Elisha said to the king of Israel, "What do we have to do with each other? Go to the prophets of your father and the prophets of your mother." "No," the king of Israel answered, "because it was the LORD who called us three kings together to hand us over to Moab."
  4. Elisha said, "As surely as the LORD Almighty lives, whom I serve, if I did not have respect for the presence of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, I would not look at you or even notice you.
  5. But now bring me a harpist." While the harpist was playing, the hand of the LORD came upon Elisha
  1. 말씀을 전하였다. "야훼께서 말씀하십니다. '이 골짜기 군데군데에 웅덩이를 파라.
  2. 나 야훼가 말한다. 너희가 바람 불고 비 오는 것을 보지 못하겠지만, 이 골짜기에 물이 가득 차서 너희와 너희 군인들과 짐승들이 마실 수 있게 될 것이다.'
  3. 그러나 이런 것쯤은 야훼로서는 아무것도 아닙니다. 야훼께서는 당신들의 손에 모압을 넘겨주실 것입니다.
  4. 당신들은 요새화된 성읍, 주요 도시를 모두 쳐서 점령하게 될 것입니다. 그러면 아름다운 수목을 모조리 쓰러뜨리고 샘구멍을 남김없이 틀어막고 옥토를 모조리 돌밭으로 만드십시오."
  5. 다음날, 아침 제사를 드리는 시간이 되자 에돔 쪽에서 물이 쏟아져 나와 그 일대가 물바다가 되었다.
  1. and he said, "This is what the LORD says: Make this valley full of ditches.
  2. For this is what the LORD says: You will see neither wind nor rain, yet this valley will be filled with water, and you, your cattle and your other animals will drink.
  3. This is an easy thing in the eyes of the LORD; he will also hand Moab over to you.
  4. You will overthrow every fortified city and every major town. You will cut down every good tree, stop up all the springs, and ruin every good field with stones."
  5. The next morning, about the time for offering the sacrifice, there it was--water flowing from the direction of Edom! And the land was filled with water.
  1. 한편 여러 나라의 왕들이 쳐들어온다는 소문이 모압 전국에 퍼졌다. 그래서 징집 연령이 지난 사람은 모두 소집되어 국경에 배치되었다.
  2. 모압 군은 이튿날 아침 일찍 일어나, 햇살이 물 위에 퍼져 있어 물이 피처럼 붉게 물들어져 있는 것을 보았다.
  3. "피바다로구나!" 하고 모압 군은 소리쳤다. "왕들 사이에 내분이 일어나서 서로 쳐죽인 게 틀림없다. 모압 장병들아, 나가서 털자!"
  4. 그러나 그들이 이스라엘 진지에 이르자 이스라엘 군이 일어나서 반격하였다. 그들은 도망치는 모압 군을 뒤쫓아가며 쳐부수었다.
  5. 도시들을 짓부수고 군인들이 모두 달려들어 좋다는 밭마다 돌을 던져 돌밭을 만들고, 샘이라는 샘은 모두 틀어막고 훌륭한 나무를 모조리 찍어 넘겼다. 그리하여 마침내 키르하레셋만 남기고 모든 곳이 돌무더기가 되었는데 그 곳마저 투석병들이 포위하고 공격하자,
  1. Now all the Moabites had heard that the kings had come to fight against them; so every man, young and old, who could bear arms was called up and stationed on the border.
  2. When they got up early in the morning, the sun was shining on the water. To the Moabites across the way, the water looked red--like blood.
  3. "That's blood!" they said. "Those kings must have fought and slaughtered each other. Now to the plunder, Moab!"
  4. But when the Moabites came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and fought them until they fled. And the Israelites invaded the land and slaughtered the Moabites.
  5. They destroyed the towns, and each man threw a stone on every good field until it was covered. They stopped up all the springs and cut down every good tree. Only Kir Hareseth was left with its stones in place, but men armed with slings surrounded it and attacked it as well.
  1. 모압 왕은 이미 전세가 기운 것을 깨닫고는 군인 칠백 명을 이끌고 칼을 빼들고 포위망을 뚫어 아람 왕에게로 탈출하려고 하였다. 그러나 그 일도 실패하였다.
  2. 모압 왕은 세자인 맏아들을 죽여 성 위에서 번제를 드렸다. 그러자 무서운 신의 진노가 이스라엘 군에 내려, 이스라엘 군은 진을 거두고 본국으로 돌아갔다.
  1. When the king of Moab saw that the battle had gone against him, he took with him seven hundred swordsmen to break through to the king of Edom, but they failed.
  2. Then he took his firstborn son, who was to succeed him as king, and offered him as a sacrifice on the city wall. The fury against Israel was great; they withdrew and returned to their own land.
 
  엘리사의 이적(4:1-4:44)    
 
  1. 예언자 수련생의 부인 하나가 엘리사에게 호소하였다. "선생님의 제자인 제 남편이 세상을 떠났습니다. 선생님께서도 아시다시피 그이는 야훼를 경외하는 분이었습니다. 그런데 그이에게 빚을 주었던 사람이 제 두 아들을 종으로 끌어가겠다고 합니다."
  2. 엘리사가 그 여인에게 말하였다. "내가 어떻게 하면 당신을 도울 수 있겠소? 집안에 남아 있는 게 무엇이오? 말하시오." 여인이 대답하였다. "집안에 남아 있는 것이라고는 기름 한 병밖에 없습니다."
  3. 그러자 엘리사가 말하였다. "돌아가서 당신의 모든 이웃으로 다니면서 그릇을 빌려오시오. 빈 그릇을 되도록 많이 빌려다가
  4. 두 아들만 데리고 집에 들어가서 문을 잠그고, 기름을 그 모든 그릇에 차례차례로 가득히 따라 부으시오."
  5. 여인은 엘리사를 떠나 집으로 돌아가서 두 아들만 데리고 집 안에 들어가 문을 잠갔다. 그리고는 두 아들이 가져다 주는 그릇에 가득가득 부었다.
  1. The wife of a man from the company of the prophets cried out to Elisha, "Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that he revered the LORD. But now his creditor is coming to take my two boys as his slaves."
  2. Elisha replied to her, "How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?" "Your servant has nothing there at all," she said, "except a little oil."
  3. Elisha said, "Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don't ask for just a few.
  4. Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side."
  5. She left him and afterward shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her and she kept pouring.
  1. 그릇마다 기름을 다 채우고 나서 여인은 아들에게 말하였다. "그릇을 더 가져오너라." 아들이 "그릇이 더 없습니다." 하자, 기름이 나오기를 멈추었다.
  2. 여인이 하느님의 사람에게 가서 이 일을 보고하자 그는, "가서 기름을 팔아 그 돈으로 빚을 갚아서 두 아들이 종으로 끌려가지 않게 하시오. 남은 것을 가지고 모자가 함께 살 수 있을 것이오." 하고 말하였다.
  3. 엘리사가 하루는 수넴을 지나가게 되었다. 거기에 살고 있던 한 부유한 여인이 엘리사를 대접하고 싶다면서 머무르기를 간청하였다. 그래서 엘리사는 그 곳을 지날 때마다 그의 집에 들러 식사를 하곤 하였다.
  4. 그 여인이 남편에게 말하였다. "여보, 틀림없이 우리 집에 늘 들르시는 이분은 거룩한 하느님의 사람입니다.
  5. 옥상에 작은 방을 하나 꾸미고 침대와 상, 의자와 등을 갖추어서 그분이 우리 집에 들르실 때마다 그 방에 모시도록 합시다."
  1. When all the jars were full, she said to her son, "Bring me another one." But he replied, "There is not a jar left." Then the oil stopped flowing.
  2. She went and told the man of God, and he said, "Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left."
  3. One day Elisha went to Shunem. And a well-to-do woman was there, who urged him to stay for a meal. So whenever he came by, he stopped there to eat.
  4. She said to her husband, "I know that this man who often comes our way is a holy man of God.
  5. Let's make a small room on the roof and put in it a bed and a table, a chair and a lamp for him. Then he can stay there whenever he comes to us."
  1. 어느날 엘리사가 거기에 갔다가 그 다락방에 올라가서 쉬게 되었다.
  2. 엘리사는 시종 게하지에게 그 집의 수넴 여인을 불러오라고 일렀다. 그가 여인을 불러오자 여인은 예언자 앞에 나섰다.
  3. 엘리사가 자기 시종에게 말하였다. "부인께 이렇게 여쭈어라. '부인, 수고가 많으시오. 이 은혜를 갚고 싶소. 내가 부인을 위하여 왕이나 아니면 군사령관에게 부탁드려 줄 수도 있는데, 무슨 아쉬운 일이 없으시오?'" 그러자 "저는 이렇게 한 겨레 가운데 어울려 만족스럽게 살고 있습니다." 하고 여인이 대답하였다.
  4. 엘리사는 시종에게 물었다. "그러면 이 부인에게 해줄 일이 없을까?" "이 부인은 아들이 없는데다가 남편은 나이가 많아 보기에 참 딱합니다." 하고 게하지가 대답하였다.
  5. 그러자 엘리사는 그 여인을 다시 불러오라고 일렀다. 시종이 여인을 불러오자 여인은 문간에 섰다.
  1. One day when Elisha came, he went up to his room and lay down there.
  2. He said to his servant Gehazi, "Call the Shunammite." So he called her, and she stood before him.
  3. Elisha said to him, "Tell her, 'You have gone to all this trouble for us. Now what can be done for you? Can we speak on your behalf to the king or the commander of the army?' " She replied, "I have a home among my own people."
  4. "What can be done for her?" Elisha asked. Gehazi said, "Well, she has no son and her husband is old."
  5. Then Elisha said, "Call her." So he called her, and she stood in the doorway.
  1. 엘리사가 말하였다. "내년 이맘때 같은 철이 돌아오면 부인께서는 아이를 낳아서 안게 될 것이오." 여인이 대답하였다. "그럴 수 없습니다, 선생님. 선생님께서는 하느님의 사람으로서 저에게 농담을 하십니까?"
  2. 그러나 그 여인은 임신하여, 엘리사가 일러준 다음해 같은 철이 돌아오자 아들을 낳았다.
  3. 그 아이가 자라났다. 하루는 자기의 아버지가 농군과 함께 추수하고 있는 데로 나갔다가
  4. 갑자기 "아! 머리야, 머리야!" 하고 아버지에게 소리쳤다. 아버지는 함께 있던 하인더러 그를 어머니에게 데려다 주라고 일렀다.
  5. 하인은 아이를 어머니에게 데려다 주었다. 그 아이는 정오까지 어머니 무릎에 누워 있다가 죽었다.
  1. "About this time next year," Elisha said, "you will hold a son in your arms." "No, my lord," she objected. "Don't mislead your servant, O man of God!"
  2. But the woman became pregnant, and the next year about that same time she gave birth to a son, just as Elisha had told her.
  3. The child grew, and one day he went out to his father, who was with the reapers.
  4. "My head! My head!" he said to his father. His father told a servant, "Carry him to his mother."
  5. After the servant had lifted him up and carried him to his mother, the boy sat on her lap until noon, and then he died.
  1. 그러자 어머니는 아들을 안고 하느님의 사람이 묵는 방에 올라가 그의 침대에 눕히고는 나와서 문을 닫았다.
  2. 그리고 나서 자기 남편을 불러 일렀다. "하인 한 사람과 암나귀 한 마리를 보내주십시오. 급히 하느님의 사람에게 갔다 와야겠습니다."
  3. "꼭 오늘 그분을 가서 뵈어야겠소? 오늘은 초하루도 아니고 안식일도 아닌데." 하고 묻는 남편에게 여인은 걱정하지 말라고 대답하며,
  4. 나귀에 안장을 얹고 나서 하인에게 명하였다. "고삐를 잡아라. 내가 시킬 때까지는 멈추지 마라."
  5. 여인은 길을 떠나 가르멜 산 위에 있는 하느님의 사람에게 갔다. 하느님의 사람은 그 여인이 오는 것을 멀리서 보고 시종 게하지에게 말하였다. "저기 수넴 여인이 오고 있다.
  1. She went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God, then shut the door and went out.
  2. She called her husband and said, "Please send me one of the servants and a donkey so I can go to the man of God quickly and return."
  3. "Why go to him today?" he asked. "It's not the New Moon or the Sabbath." "It's all right," she said.
  4. She saddled the donkey and said to her servant, "Lead on; don't slow down for me unless I tell you."
  5. So she set out and came to the man of God at Mount Carmel. When he saw her in the distance, the man of God said to his servant Gehazi, "Look! There's the Shunammite!
  1. 뛰어가서 맞아라. 그리고 부인은 별고 없으시냐고 물어보아라. 바깥 어른과 아이도 별고 없느냐고 물어보아라." 게하지가 달려가 그렇게 묻자 여인은 모두 별고 없다고 대답하였다.
  2. 여인은 산 위에 이르러 하느님의 사람의 다리를 부둥켜안았다. 게하지가 그 여인을 밀어내려고 다가가니, 하느님의 사람이 말하였다. "그냥 두어라. 부인에게 무언가 마음 아픈 일이 생겼다. 야훼께서 그 일을 나에게 감추시고 알려주시지 않으셨구나."
  3. 그 때 여인이 말하였다. "선생님, 제가 언제 아들을 달라고 했습니까? 공연히 가슴만 부풀렸다가 낙담하게 하지 말아달라고 하지 않았습니까?"
  4. 그러자 엘리사가 게하지에게 말하였다. "허리를 졸라매고 내 지팡이를 가지고 달려가거라. 도중에 누구를 만나더라도 인사하지 말고 누가 인사하더라도 대꾸하지 말며, 가서 내 지팡이를 아이의 얼굴 위에 놓아라."
  5. 그러나 아이의 어머니가 언성을 높여 말하였다. "선생님께서 돌아가시기라도 한다면 모를까, 저는 결코 선생님을 놓지 못하겠습니다." 그래서 엘리사는 일어나서 그 부인을 따라 나섰다.
  1. Run to meet her and ask her, 'Are you all right? Is your husband all right? Is your child all right?' " "Everything is all right," she said.
  2. When she reached the man of God at the mountain, she took hold of his feet. Gehazi came over to push her away, but the man of God said, "Leave her alone! She is in bitter distress, but the LORD has hidden it from me and has not told me why."
  3. "Did I ask you for a son, my lord?" she said. "Didn't I tell you, 'Don't raise my hopes'?"
  4. Elisha said to Gehazi, "Tuck your cloak into your belt, take my staff in your hand and run. If you meet anyone, do not greet him, and if anyone greets you, do not answer. Lay my staff on the boy's face."
  5. But the child's mother said, "As surely as the LORD lives and as you live, I will not leave you." So he got up and followed her.
  1. 게하지가 앞서 가서 그 아이의 얼굴 위에 지팡이를 놓아보았으나, 소리를 내기는커녕 듣는 것 같지도 않았다. 그는 엘리사를 만나러 돌아와서 그 아기가 깨어나지 않더라고 말하였다.
  2. 엘리사는 집 안에 들어가 죽은 아이가 자기 침대에 누워 있는 것을 보았다.
  3. 엘리사는 방안에 들어가서 문을 닫았다. 방안에는 둘뿐이었다. 그는 야훼께 기도드리고 나서
  4. 침대에 올라가 아이 위에 엎드렸다. 그리고는 자기의 입을 아이의 입에, 자기의 눈을 아이의 눈에, 자기의 손을 아이의 손에 포개었다. 이렇게 아이 위에 엎드리자 아이의 몸이 따뜻해지기 시작하였다.
  5. 엘리사는 일어나서 방 안을 이리로 한 번, 저리로 한 번 걷고 나서 다시 침대에 올라가 아이 위에 엎드렸다. 그러기를 일곱 번 거듭하자 아이가 재채기를 하면서 눈을 떴다.
  1. Gehazi went on ahead and laid the staff on the boy's face, but there was no sound or response. So Gehazi went back to meet Elisha and told him, "The boy has not awakened."
  2. When Elisha reached the house, there was the boy lying dead on his couch.
  3. He went in, shut the door on the two of them and prayed to the LORD.
  4. Then he got on the bed and lay upon the boy, mouth to mouth, eyes to eyes, hands to hands. As he stretched himself out upon him, the boy's body grew warm.
  5. Elisha turned away and walked back and forth in the room and then got on the bed and stretched out upon him once more. The boy sneezed seven times and opened his eyes.
  1. 엘리사는 게하지를 불러, "이 집 수넴 여인을 들어오라고 하여라." 하고 일렀다. 여인이 부르는 소리를 듣고 오자, 예언자는 아들을 데리고 가라고 말하였다.
  2. 여인은 예언자의 발 앞에 나와 방바닥에 엎드려 절을 하고 아들을 데리고 나갔다.
  3. 엘리사는 길갈로 되돌아갔다. 그 곳은 엘리사가 예언자 수련생들을 데리고 사는 곳이었다. 그때 마침 거기에는 흉년이 들어 있었다. 엘리사가 시종에게 말하였다. "큰 솥을 걸고 형제들이 먹을 국을 끓여라."
  4. 들에 푸성귀를 뜯으러 나갔던 사람들 중 하나가 들포도덩굴을 만나 옷자락에 가득 뜯어 가지고 돌아와서 무엇인지도 모르고 썰어 국솥에 넣었다.
  5. 그 국을 먹으라고 떠주자, 국맛을 본 사람들이 급히 소리쳤다. "하느님의 사람이여, 솥 안에 독이 들었습니다." 그러면서 그 국을 먹지 못하고 있는데,
  1. Elisha summoned Gehazi and said, "Call the Shunammite." And he did. When she came, he said, "Take your son."
  2. She came in, fell at his feet and bowed to the ground. Then she took her son and went out.
  3. Elisha returned to Gilgal and there was a famine in that region. While the company of the prophets was meeting with him, he said to his servant, "Put on the large pot and cook some stew for these men."
  4. One of them went out into the fields to gather herbs and found a wild vine. He gathered some of its gourds and filled the fold of his cloak. When he returned, he cut them up into the pot of stew, though no one knew what they were.
  5. The stew was poured out for the men, but as they began to eat it, they cried out, "O man of God, there is death in the pot!" And they could not eat it.
  1. 엘리사가 밀가루를 가져오라고 하여 솥 속에 넣고는 국을 떠 먹으라고 하였다. 먹어보니 솥에 독이 없었다.
  2. 어떤 사람이 바알살리사에서 왔다. 그는 맏물로 만든 보리떡 스무 개와 햇곡식 이삭을 하느님의 사람에게 가져왔다. 엘리사는 그것을 같이 있는 사람들에게 나누어 먹이라고 하였다.
  3. 그러나 그의 제자가 "어떻게 이것을 백 명이나 되는 사람들 앞에 내놓을 수 있겠습니까?" 하고 물었다. 엘리사가 다시 말하였다. "이 사람들이 먹도록 나누어주어라. 야훼께서 이들이 먹고도 남을 것이라고 말씀하셨다."
  4. 그리하여 그것을 사람들에게 나누어주니, 과연 야훼께서 말씀하신 대로 그들이 먹고도 남았다.
  1. Elisha said, "Get some flour." He put it into the pot and said, "Serve it to the people to eat." And there was nothing harmful in the pot.
  2. A man came from Baal Shalishah, bringing the man of God twenty loaves of barley bread baked from the first ripe grain, along with some heads of new grain. "Give it to the people to eat," Elisha said.
  3. "How can I set this before a hundred men?" his servant asked. But Elisha answered, "Give it to the people to eat. For this is what the LORD says: 'They will eat and have some left over.' "
  4. Then he set it before them, and they ate and had some left over, according to the word of the LORD.
