- 다윗은 대궐에 들어가 살게 되면서, 예언자 나단에게 말하였다. "내 말을 들으시오. 나는 이렇게 송백으로 지은 대궐에서 사는데, 야훼의 계약궤가 아직도 천막 안에 있으니, 될 말이오?"
- 나단이 다윗에게 대답했다. "임금님, 하느님께서 임금님과 함께 계시니 무엇이든 하고 싶으신 대로 하십시오."
- 그 날 밤 하느님께서 나단에게 말씀을 내리셨다.
- "너는 내 종 다윗에게 가서 일러라. '야훼의 말이다. 너는 내가 살 집을 짓지 못한다.
- 나는 이스라엘을 이집트에서 이끌어내던 날부터 이 날까지 천막을 치고 옮겨 다녔으며, 집에서는 살지 않았다.

- After David was settled in his palace, he said to Nathan the prophet, "Here I am, living in a palace of cedar, while the ark of the covenant of the LORD is under a tent."
- Nathan replied to David, "Whatever you have in mind, do it, for God is with you."
- That night the word of God came to Nathan, saying:
- "Go and tell my servant David, 'This is what the LORD says: You are not the one to build me a house to dwell in.
- I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought Israel up out of Egypt to this day. I have moved from one tent site to another, from one dwelling place to another.

- 내 백성을 영웅들에게 맡겨 보살피게 하던 시대에, 나는 이스라엘 백성이 사는 곳곳으로 옮겨 다니었다. 그 때 어찌하여 내 집을 송백으로 짓지 않느냐고 어느 영웅에게 말한 적이 있더냐?'
- 그러니 너는 이제 나의 종 다윗에게 일러주어라. '만군의 야훼가 하는 말이다. 나는 네가 양떼를 따라다니는 것을 목장에서 데려내다가 내 백성 이스라엘의 영도자로 삼았다.
- 그리고 네가 어디로 가든지 네 곁을 떠나지 아니하고 네 원수를 모두 네 앞에서 쓸어버렸다. 나는 이제 세상에서 이름난 어느 위인 못지않게 네 이름을 떨치게 하겠다.
- 내 백성 이스라엘은 내가 마련해 준 이 땅에 정착하고 걱정 없이 살게 되었다. 다시는 전처럼 악한 무리에게 억눌려 고생하는 일이 없으리라.
- 지난날 영웅들을 시켜 내 백성 이스라엘을 다스리던 때처럼 고생하는 일은 다시 없을 것이다. 나는 네 원수들을 다 굴복시키고 한 왕조를 일으켜 너를 높여주겠다.

- Wherever I have moved with all the Israelites, did I ever say to any of their leaders whom I commanded to shepherd my people, "Why have you not built me a house of cedar?" '
- "Now then, tell my servant David, 'This is what the LORD Almighty says: I took you from the pasture and from following the flock, to be ruler over my people Israel.
- I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. Now I will make your name like the names of the greatest men of the earth.
- And I will provide a place for my people Israel and will plant them so that they can have a home of their own and no longer be disturbed. Wicked people will not oppress them anymore, as they did at the beginning
- and have done ever since the time I appointed leaders over my people Israel. I will also subdue all your enemies. " 'I declare to you that the LORD will build a house for you:

- 네가 살 만큼 다 살고 세상을 하직하면 네 몸에서 난 아들 가운데서 하나를 네 후계자로 세우고 그의 국권을 튼튼하게 해주겠다.
- 그 후계자가 바로 내 집을 지을 사람이다. 나는 그의 왕위를 든든히 굳혀 영원히 흔들리지 않게 해주리라.
- 나는 친히 그의 아비가 되고 그는 내 아들이 되리라. 네 선임자에게서는 내 사랑을 거두었지만, 네 후계자에게서는 그렇게 사랑을 거두지 않을 것이다.
- 내가 세워준 이 왕조, 내가 세워준 이 나라를 다스릴 직책을 그에게 맡겨 끊어지지 않게 하리라. 그의 왕위는 길이 흔들리지 아니하리라.'"
- 나단은 환상 가운데서 받은 이 모든 말씀을 다윗에게 전하였다.

- When your days are over and you go to be with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom.
- He is the one who will build a house for me, and I will establish his throne forever.
- I will be his father, and he will be my son. I will never take my love away from him, as I took it away from your predecessor.
- I will set him over my house and my kingdom forever; his throne will be established forever.' "
- Nathan reported to David all the words of this entire revelation.

- 이 말을 듣고 다윗 왕은 야훼 앞에 나아가 앉아 아뢰었다. "야훼 하느님, 제가 무엇이기에, 저의 집안이 무엇이기에, 저를 이런 자리에 오르게 하셨습니까?
- 하느님, 이것만도 분에 넘치는데, 먼 훗날 소인의 집안에 있을 일까지 알려주시고 소인을 남보다 높이 보아주셨습니다. 야훼 하느님,
- 이 고마운 마음을 무엇으로 다 아뢸 수 있겠습니까? 하느님께서는 소인의 속을 잘 아십니다.
- 야훼께서는 개만도 못한 소인을 생각하시어 이렇듯 큰일을 해주시고, 그 큰일들을 알려주시기까지 하셨습니다.
- 야훼 같은 이가 계시다는 말을 들어본 적이 없습니다. 야훼밖에 또 다른 신이 있다는 말을 들어본 적도 없습니다.

- Then King David went in and sat before the LORD, and he said: "Who am I, O LORD God, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far?
- And as if this were not enough in your sight, O God, you have spoken about the future of the house of your servant. You have looked on me as though I were the most exalted of men, O LORD God.
- "What more can David say to you for honoring your servant? For you know your servant,
- O LORD. For the sake of your servant and according to your will, you have done this great thing and made known all these great promises.
- "There is no one like you, O LORD, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears.

- 이스라엘이 종살이할 때 하느님께서는 몸소 찾아가시어 건져주시고 하느님의 백성으로 삼으셨습니다. 이렇게 돌보아 주신 백성이 이 지상에 이 백성 이스라엘 외에 또 어디 있겠습니까? 하느님께서는 이집트에서 건져내신 하느님의 백성이 보는 앞에서 놀랍고 엄청난 일을 하셨습니다. 뭇 민족을 몰아내시어 하느님의 이름을 떨치셨습니다.
- 야훼 하느님께서는 이스라엘을 영원히 하느님의 백성으로 삼으셨습니다. 몸소 그들에게 하느님이 되어주셨습니다.
- 그러니 야훼 하느님, 소인과 소인의 왕실을 두고 하신 말씀을 이제 꼭 이루어주시기 빕니다. 부디 말씀대로 해주십시오.
- 그대로 이루어져야 하느님의 이름이 길이 들날려, 사람들은 만군의 주 야훼께서 이스라엘을 거느리시는 신이라고 하게 될 것입니다. 그래야 소인 다윗의 왕실이 하느님 앞에서 흔들리지 않을 것입니다.
- 나의 하느님, 소인의 왕실을 세워주겠다고 하느님께서 친히 일러주시지 않으셨던들, 소인이 어찌 이렇게 기도 드릴 생각인들 했겠습니까?

- And who is like your people Israel--the one nation on earth whose God went out to redeem a people for himself, and to make a name for yourself, and to perform great and awesome wonders by driving out nations from before your people, whom you redeemed from Egypt?
- You made your people Israel your very own forever, and you, O LORD, have become their God.
- "And now, LORD, let the promise you have made concerning your servant and his house be established forever. Do as you promised,
- so that it will be established and that your name will be great forever. Then men will say, 'The LORD Almighty, the God over Israel, is Israel's God!' And the house of your servant David will be established before you.
- "You, my God, have revealed to your servant that you will build a house for him. So your servant has found courage to pray to you.

- 야훼께서 참 신이신 줄 이제야 알았습니다. 그러하신 분이 이제 소인에게 이렇듯 좋은 말씀을 내리셨으니,
- 소인의 왕실이 영원히 하느님 앞에 서 있도록 부디 복을 내려주십시오. 야훼께서 친히 복을 약속해 주셨으니, 소인은 이제 내려주시는 그 복을 길이 누리겠습니다."

- O LORD, you are God! You have promised these good things to your servant.
- Now you have been pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever in your sight; for you, O LORD, have blessed it, and it will be blessed forever."
