역대하 10:1-12:16

 과중한 세금과 노역에 시달리던 백성들은 르호보암에게 시정을 요구하였지만, 그는 어리석게도 강경책을 고수하였다. 결국 여로보암을 중심으로 열 지파가 반란을 일으켜 왕국은 둘로 나뉘게 되었다. 르호보암은 초기에는 지혜로운 통치로 왕국을 안정시켰으나, 나라가 강성해지자 율법을 버리고 하나님께 범죄함으로써 애굽 왕 시삭의 침입을 받는 징계를 받았다.
  
  왕국 분열(10:1-10:19)    
 
  1. 르호보암은 세겜으로 갔다. 온 이스라엘이 그를 왕으로 추대하려고 세겜에 모여 있었던 것이다.
  2. 그 때 솔로몬을 피하여 이집트에 가 있던 느밧의 아들 여로보암은 이 소식을 듣고 이집트에서 돌아와 있었는데
  3. 사람들은 그를 불러내었다. 여로보암과 온 이스라엘이 르호보암에게 와서 말하였다.
  4. "선왕께서는 우리에게 무거운 멍에를 메우셨습니다. 이제 임금님께서는 선왕께서 우리에게 메워주신 멍에를 가볍게 해주십시오. 그 힘든 일을 덜어주십시오. 그렇게 하셔야 우리는 임금님을 받들어 섬기겠습니다."
  5. 사흘 후에 다시 오라고 하여 백성을 돌려보내고 나서
  1. Rehoboam went to Shechem, for all the Israelites had gone there to make him king.
  2. When Jeroboam son of Nebat heard this (he was in Egypt, where he had fled from King Solomon), he returned from Egypt.
  3. So they sent for Jeroboam, and he and all Israel went to Rehoboam and said to him:
  4. "Your father put a heavy yoke on us, but now lighten the harsh labor and the heavy yoke he put on us, and we will serve you."
  5. Rehoboam answered, "Come back to me in three days." So the people went away.
  1. 르호보암 왕은 부왕 생존시에 부왕을 섬기던 나이 많은 신하들을 불러 "이 백성의 요구에 어떻게 대답하면 좋겠소?" 하고 의논하였다.
  2. 그들이 대답하였다. "이 백성을 좋게 대하여 주십시오. 너그럽게 보시고 좋은 말로 대답해 주십시오. 그리하시면 이 백성은 언제까지나 종이 되어드릴 것입니다." 그러나
  3. 그는 원로들의 충고를 받아들이지 않았다. 그 대신 자기와 함께 자라난 젊은이들로서 자기를 받드는 자들과 상의하여
  4. 그들에게 "선왕께서 메워주신 멍에를 가볍게 해달라고 백성들이 요구하는데 어떻게 대답하면 좋겠는가?" 하고 물었다.
  5. 왕과 함께 자란 젊은이들은 이렇게 대답하였다. "백성들이 선왕께서 메워주신 멍에가 무거우니 그것을 가볍게 해달라고 요구하더라도, 임금님께서는 이렇게 대답하십시오. '나의 새끼손가락이 부왕의 허리보다 굵다.
  1. Then King Rehoboam consulted the elders who had served his father Solomon during his lifetime. "How would you advise me to answer these people?" he asked.
  2. They replied, "If you will be kind to these people and please them and give them a favorable answer, they will always be your servants."
  3. But Rehoboam rejected the advice the elders gave him and consulted the young men who had grown up with him and were serving him.
  4. He asked them, "What is your advice? How should we answer these people who say to me, 'Lighten the yoke your father put on us'?"
  5. The young men who had grown up with him replied, "Tell the people who have said to you, 'Your father put a heavy yoke on us, but make our yoke lighter'-tell them, 'My little finger is thicker than my father's waist.
  1. 너희는 부왕께서 메워주신 멍에가 무겁다고 한다마는, 나는 그보다 더 무거운 멍에를 너희에게 지우리라. 부왕께서는 너희를 가죽채찍으로 치셨으나, 나는 쇠채찍으로 다스리리라.'"
  2. 사흘 후에 다시 오라고 한 왕의 명령대로 여로보암은 온 백성을 거느리고 삼 일째 되는 날 르호보암 앞에 나타났다.
  3. 왕의 대답은 가혹하였다. 끝내 원로들의 충고를 외면하고
  4. 젊은이들의 충고를 따라 이렇게 말하였다. "부왕께서 너희에게 무거운 멍에를 메웠다지만, 나는 그보다 더 무거운 멍에를 메우리라. 부왕께서는 너희를 가죽채찍으로 치셨지만, 나는 쇠채찍으로 다스리리라."
  5. 왕은 이처럼 끝내 백성들의 말을 들어주지 않았다. 야훼께서 실로 사람 아히야를 시켜 느밧의 아들 여로보암에게 하신 당신의 말씀을 이루시려고 일을 그렇게 꾸미셨던 것이다.
  1. My father laid on you a heavy yoke; I will make it even heavier. My father scourged you with whips; I will scourge you with scorpions.' "
  2. Three days later Jeroboam and all the people returned to Rehoboam, as the king had said, "Come back to me in three days."
  3. The king answered them harshly. Rejecting the advice of the elders,
  4. he followed the advice of the young men and said, "My father made your yoke heavy; I will make it even heavier. My father scourged you with whips; I will scourge you with scorpions."
  5. So the king did not listen to the people, for this turn of events was from God, to fulfill the word the LORD had spoken to Jeroboam son of Nebat through Ahijah the Shilonite.
  1. 온 이스라엘은 왕이 자기들의 말을 들어주지 않은 것을 보고 왕에게 대답하였다. "우리가 다윗에게서 받을 몫이 어디 있느냐? 이새의 아들에게서 받을 것이 없구나. 이스라엘아, 모두 자기 집으로 돌아가자. 다윗이여, 이제 네 집안이나 돌보아라."그리하여 이스라엘 백성은 각자 집으로 돌아갔다.
  2. 르호보암은 유다 지방의 성읍들에 살고 있는 이스라엘 백성만을 다스리게 되었다.
  3. 르호보암 왕은 부역감독 하도람을 보내 보았으나 온 이스라엘 백성이 그를 돌로 쳐죽였다. 르호보암 왕은 마차를 몰아 예루살렘으로 급히 도망하였다.
  4. 이렇게 이스라엘은 다윗 왕조에 반역하여 오늘에 이르렀다.
  1. When all Israel saw that the king refused to listen to them, they answered the king: "What share do we have in David, what part in Jesse's son? To your tents, O Israel! Look after your own house, O David!" So all the Israelites went home.
  2. But as for the Israelites who were living in the towns of Judah, Rehoboam still ruled over them.
  3. King Rehoboam sent out Adoniram, who was in charge of forced labor, but the Israelites stoned him to death. King Rehoboam, however, managed to get into his chariot and escape to Jerusalem.
  4. So Israel has been in rebellion against the house of David to this day.
 
  유다 왕국의 강성(11:1-11:23)    
 
  1. 르호보암은 예루살렘에 돌아오는 길로 유다 가문과 베냐민 가문에 동원령을 내렸다. 그는 정병 십팔만을 뽑아 이스라엘 가문을 무찌르고 르호보암의 국권을 되찾으려고 하였다.
  2. 그러는데 야훼의 말씀이 하느님의 사람 스마야에게 내렸다.
  3. "솔로몬의 아들 유다 왕 르호보암과 유다와 베냐민 지방의 온 이스라엘 사람에게 이 말을 전하여라.
  4. '야훼가 말한다. 이렇게 된 것은 다 나의 뜻이니 동족을 치러 올라가지 말고 각자 집으로 돌아가거라.'" 그들은 야훼의 말씀을 듣고 모두들 순종하는 마음으로, 돌이켜 여로보암을 치러 올라가지 아니하였다.
  5. 르호보암은 예루살렘에 자리를 잡고 유다 지방 도시들을 요새로 만들었다.
  1. When Rehoboam arrived in Jerusalem, he mustered the house of Judah and Benjamin--a hundred and eighty thousand fighting men--to make war against Israel and to regain the kingdom for Rehoboam.
  2. But this word of the LORD came to Shemaiah the man of God:
  3. "Say to Rehoboam son of Solomon king of Judah and to all the Israelites in Judah and Benjamin,
  4. 'This is what the LORD says: Do not go up to fight against your brothers. Go home, every one of you, for this is my doing.' " So they obeyed the words of the LORD and turned back from marching against Jeroboam.
  5. Rehoboam lived in Jerusalem and built up towns for defense in Judah:
  1. 그가 요새로 만든 도시는 베들레헴, 에탐, 드고아,

  5. Zorah, Aijalon and Hebron. These were fortified cities in Judah and Benjamin.
  1. 그는 이 요새들을 보수하고 거기에 사령들을 두고 양식과 기름과 술도 저장해 두었다.
  2. 각 도시마다 방패와 창을 마련해 두어 강화하였다. 그리하여 그는 유다와 베냐민 지방을 차지하게 되었다.
  3. 이스라엘 전국에 있던 사제와 레위인들이 모두 자기가 살던 고장을 떠나 그에게로 와서 봉직하게 되었다.
  4. 레위인들은 목장과 소유지를 버리고 유다 예루살렘으로 내려왔다. 여로보암이 그들에게서 야훼를 섬기는 사제직을 박탈하고
  5. 사제들을 따로 세워 산당에서 숫염소와 자기가 만든 송아지들을 섬기게 하였기 때문이었다.
  1. He strengthened their defenses and put commanders in them, with supplies of food, olive oil and wine.
  2. He put shields and spears in all the cities, and made them very strong. So Judah and Benjamin were his.
  3. The priests and Levites from all their districts throughout Israel sided with him.
  4. The Levites even abandoned their pasturelands and property, and came to Judah and Jerusalem because Jeroboam and his sons had rejected them as priests of the LORD.
  5. And he appointed his own priests for the high places and for the goat and calf idols he had made.
  1. 이스라엘 온 지파들 가운데서 이스라엘의 하느님 야훼를 찾기로 결심한 사람들은 그들을 따라 예루살렘으로 와서 선조들의 하느님 야훼께 제사를 드리게 되었다.
  2. 이들은 삼 년 동안 유다 나라를 강화하고 솔로몬의 아들 르호보암의 힘이 되었다. 이삼 년 동안 르호보암은 다윗과 솔로몬의 본을 따라 살았다.
  3. 르호보암은 다윗의 아들 여리못이 이새의 아들 엘리압의 딸 아비하일에게서 낳은 마할랏을 아내로 맞았다.
  4. 마할랏이 그에게 낳아준 아들은 여우스, 스마리야, 자함이었다.
  5. 그 뒤에 그는 압살롬의 딸 마아가를 아내로 맞았는데, 마아가는 그에게 아비야, 아때, 지자, 슬로밋을 낳아주었다.
  1. Those from every tribe of Israel who set their hearts on seeking the LORD, the God of Israel, followed the Levites to Jerusalem to offer sacrifices to the LORD, the God of their fathers.
  2. They strengthened the kingdom of Judah and supported Rehoboam son of Solomon three years, walking in the ways of David and Solomon during this time.
  3. Rehoboam married Mahalath, who was the daughter of David's son Jerimoth and of Abihail, the daughter of Jesse's son Eliab.
  4. She bore him sons: Jeush, Shemariah and Zaham.
  5. Then he married Maacah daughter of Absalom, who bore him Abijah, Attai, Ziza and Shelomith.
  1. 르호보암은 아내 열여덟 명과 후궁 육십 명을 거느리고 아들 스물여덟과 딸 육십을 두었지만, 압살롬의 딸 마아가를 어떤 아내나 후궁보다도 더욱 사랑하였다.
  2. 르호보암은 마아가의 아들 아비야를 으뜸가는 자리에 앉혀 세자로 책봉하였다. 장차 그를 왕위에 앉힐 생각이었다.
  3. 그는 슬기로운 처사를 내렸으니, 아들들에게 유다와 베냐민 전지역과 요새 도시들을 나누어 맡기고 양식을 넉넉히 대어주었으며 아내도 많이 얻어주었던 것이다.
  1. Rehoboam loved Maacah daughter of Absalom more than any of his other wives and concubines. In all, he had eighteen wives and sixty concubines, twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.
  2. Rehoboam appointed Abijah son of Maacah to be the chief prince among his brothers, in order to make him king.
  3. He acted wisely, dispersing some of his sons throughout the districts of Judah and Benjamin, and to all the fortified cities. He gave them abundant provisions and took many wives for them.
 
  애굽의 침입(12:1-12:16)    
 
  1. 르호보암은 통치권이 튼튼해지고 세력이 커지자 야훼의 법을 저버렸다. 온 이스라엘도 그를 본받았다.
  2. 르호보암 왕 제오년에 이집트 왕 시삭이 예루살렘을 쳐들어왔다. 야훼께 충성을 다하지 않다가 그 변을 당한 것이다.
  3. 병거 천이백 대에 기병 육만, 거기에다가 이루 헤아릴 수 없이 많은 리비야 군과 수끼 군과 에티오피아 군이 그를 따라 이집트에서 쳐들어왔다.
  4. 그가 유다의 요새 도시들을 점령하고 예루살렘에 다다랐을 때,
  5. 예언자 스마야가 르호보암을 찾아와서 시삭을 피하여 예루살렘에 모여와 있던 유다 지휘관들에게 말하였다. "야훼의 말씀이오. '너희는 나를 버렸다. 나도 너희를 시삭의 손에 내어주리라.'"
  1. After Rehoboam's position as king was established and he had become strong, he and all Israel with him abandoned the law of the LORD.
  2. Because they had been unfaithful to the LORD, Shishak king of Egypt attacked Jerusalem in the fifth year of King Rehoboam.
  3. With twelve hundred chariots and sixty thousand horsemen and the innumerable troops of Libyans, Sukkites and Cushites that came with him from Egypt,
  4. he captured the fortified cities of Judah and came as far as Jerusalem.
  5. Then the prophet Shemaiah came to Rehoboam and to the leaders of Judah who had assembled in Jerusalem for fear of Shishak, and he said to them, "This is what the LORD says, 'You have abandoned me; therefore, I now abandon you to Shishak.' "
  1. 그러자 이스라엘 지휘관들과 왕은 머리를 숙이고 "야훼께서 옳으십니다." 하고 고백하였다.
  2. 이렇게 머리를 숙이는 것을 보시고 야훼께서는 다시 스마야에게 말씀을 내리셨다. "이렇게 머리를 숙이니, 나는 이 백성을 멸하지 아니하고 아슬아슬하게 난을 피하도록 하리라. 시삭을 시켜 예루살렘에 나의 분노를 다 쏟지는 않겠지만,
  3. 이 백성은 시삭의 종이 되어, 나를 섬기는 것과 세상 임금들을 섬기는 것이 어떻게 다른지 알게 되리라."
  4. 이집트 왕 시삭은 예루살렘을 침공하여 야훼의 성전 창고와 왕실 창고를 모두 털어갔다. 또 솔로몬이 만든 금방패들도 빼앗아갔다.
  5. 그래서 르호보암 왕은 그 대신 놋방패를 만들어 궁전 문을 경비하는 근위대 장교들을 무장시켰다.
  1. The leaders of Israel and the king humbled themselves and said, "The LORD is just."
  2. When the LORD saw that they humbled themselves, this word of the LORD came to Shemaiah: "Since they have humbled themselves, I will not destroy them but will soon give them deliverance. My wrath will not be poured out on Jerusalem through Shishak.
  3. They will, however, become subject to him, so that they may learn the difference between serving me and serving the kings of other lands."
  4. When Shishak king of Egypt attacked Jerusalem, he carried off the treasures of the temple of the LORD and the treasures of the royal palace. He took everything, including the gold shields Solomon had made.
  5. So King Rehoboam made bronze shields to replace them and assigned these to the commanders of the guard on duty at the entrance to the royal palace.
  1. 왕이 야훼의 전에 출입할 때마다 근위대원들은 그 놋방패를 들고 호위하여 섰다가 다시 근위대실에 가져다 두곤 하였다.
  2. 그가 머리를 숙였기 때문에 야훼께서는 그에게서 진노를 거두셨다. 그리하여 그는 완전히 멸망하지 않았고 유다 나라도 모든 일이 다시 펴이게 되었다.
  3. 르호보암 왕은 예루살렘에서 왕위를 굳혔다. 그는 사십일 세에 왕위에 올랐으며, 야훼께서 이스라엘 온 지파 가운데서 선택하시어 당신의 이름을 붙이신 예루살렘에서 십칠 년간 다스렸다. 그의 어머니 이름은 나아마라고 하는 암몬 여자였다.
  4. 르호보암은 야훼를 찾는 데 마음을 쓰지 않고 악한 일을 하였다.
  5. 르호보암의 행적은 처음부터 끝까지 예언자 스마야와 선견자 이또의 역사서에 기록되어 있다. 르호보암과 여로보암 사이에는 전쟁이 그칠 날이 없었다.
  1. Whenever the king went to the LORD's temple, the guards went with him, bearing the shields, and afterward they returned them to the guardroom.
  2. Because Rehoboam humbled himself, the LORD's anger turned from him, and he was not totally destroyed. Indeed, there was some good in Judah.
  3. King Rehoboam established himself firmly in Jerusalem and continued as king. He was forty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city the LORD had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel in which to put his Name. His mother's name was Naamah; she was an Ammonite.
  4. He did evil because he had not set his heart on seeking the LORD.
  5. As for the events of Rehoboam's reign, from beginning to end, are they not written in the records of Shemaiah the prophet and of Iddo the seer that deal with genealogies? There was continual warfare between Rehoboam and Jeroboam.
  1. 르호보암이 세상을 떠나 다윗 성에 안장되자 그의 아들 아비야가 뒤를 이어 왕위에 올랐다.
  1. Rehoboam rested with his fathers and was buried in the City of David. And Abijah his son succeeded him as king.
