- "'간음하지 마라.' 하신 말씀을 너희는 들었다.
- 그러나 나는 너희에게 이렇게 말한다. 누구든지 여자를 보고 음란한 생각을 품는 사람은 벌써 마음으로 그 여자를 범했다.
- 오른눈이 죄를 짓게 하거든 그 눈을 빼어 던져버려라. 몸의 한 부분을 잃는 것이 온몸이 지옥에 던져지는 것보다 낫다.
- 또 오른손이 죄를 짓게 하거든 그 손을 찍어 던져버려라. 몸의 한 부분을 잃는 것이 온몸이 지옥에 던져지는 것보다 낫다."
- "또한 '누구든지 아내를 버리려면 그에게 이혼장을 써주어라.' 하신 말씀이 있다.

- Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
- But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
- And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
- And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
- It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:

- 그러나 나는 이렇게 말한다. 누구든지 음행한 경우를 제외하고 아내를 버리면, 이것은 그 여자를 간음하게 하는 것이다. 또 그 버림받은 여자와 결혼하면 그것도 간음하는 것이다."
- "또 '거짓 맹세를 하지 마라. 그리고 주님께 맹세한 것은 다 지켜라.' 하고 옛 사람들에게 하신 말씀을 너희는 들었다.
- 그러나 나는 이렇게 말한다. 아예 맹세를 하지 마라. 하늘을 두고도 맹세하지 마라. 하늘은 하느님의 옥좌이다.
- 땅을 두고도 맹세하지 마라. 땅은 하느님의 발판이다. 예루살렘을 두고도 맹세하지 마라. 예루살렘은 그 크신 임금님의 도성이다.
- 네 머리를 두고도 맹세하지 마라. 너는 머리카락 하나도 희게나 검게 할 수 없다.

- But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.
- Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:
- But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne:
- Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.
- Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.

- 너희는 그저 '예.' 할 것은 '예.' 하고 '아니오.' 할 것은 '아니오.'만 하여라. 그 이상의 말은 악에서 나오는 것이다."
- "'눈은 눈으로, 이는 이로.' 하신 말씀을 너희는 들었다.
- 그러나 나는 이렇게 말한다. 앙갚음하지 마라.
- 누가 오른뺨을 치거든 왼뺨마저 돌려 대고 또 재판에 걸어 속옷을 가지려고 하거든 겉옷까지도 내주어라.
- 누가 억지로 오 리를 가자고 하거든 십 리를 같이 가주어라.

- But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.
- Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
- But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
- And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.
- And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.

- 달라는 사람에게 주고 꾸려는 사람의 청을 물리치지 마라."
- "'네 이웃을 사랑하고 원수를 미워하여라.' 하신 말씀을 너희는 들었다.
- 그러나 나는 이렇게 말한다. 원수를 사랑하고 너희를 박해하는 사람들을 위하여 기도하여라.
- 그래야만 너희는 하늘에 계신 아버지의 아들이 될 것이다. 아버지께서는 악한 사람에게나 선한 사람에게나 똑같이 햇빛을 주시고 옳은 사람에게나 옳지 못한 사람에게나 똑같이 비를 내려주신다.
- 너희가 자기를 사랑하는 사람들만 사랑한다면 무슨 상을 받겠느냐? 세리들도 그만큼은 하지 않느냐?

- Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.
- Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
- But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
- That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
- For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?

- 또 너희가 자기 형제들에게만 인사를 한다면 남보다 나을 것이 무엇이냐? 이방인들도 그만큼은 하지 않느냐?
- 하늘에 계신 아버지께서 완전하신 것같이 너희도 완전한 사람이 되어라."

- And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
- Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
