- 너는 이 백성에게 다음과 같은 법을 공포하여라.
- '너희가 히브리 사람을 종으로 삼았을 경우에는 육 년 동안만 종으로 부리고 칠 년이 되면 보상 없이 자유를 주어 내보내라.
- 그가 홀몸으로 들어왔으면 홀몸으로 내보내고, 아내를 데리고 왔으면 아내를 데리고 나가게 하여라.
- 주인이 장가를 들여 그 아내가 아들이나 딸을 낳았을 경우에는 그 아내와 자식들은 주인의 것이므로 저 혼자 나가야 한다.
- 그러나 만일 그 종이, 자기는 주인과 자기 처자식을 사랑하므로 자유로운 몸이 되어 혼자 나가고 싶지 않다고 분명히 말하면,

- Now these are the judgments which thou shalt set before them.
- If thou buy an Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve: and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing.
- If he came in by himself, he shall go out by himself: if he were married, then his wife shall go out with him.
- If his master have given him a wife, and she have born him sons or daughters; the wife and her children shall be her master's, and he shall go out by himself.
- And if the servant shall plainly say, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free:

- 주인은 그를 하느님 앞으로 데리고 가서 그의 귓바퀴를 문짝이나 문설주에 대고 송곳으로 뚫어라. 그러면 그는 죽을 때까지 그의 종이 된다.
- 남의 딸을 종으로 샀을 경우에는 남종을 내보내듯이 보내지는 못한다.
- 주인이 데리고 살려고 했는데 눈에 들지 않거든 몸값을 치르고 내보내라. 그는 약속을 어겼으므로 그 여종을 외국인에게 팔 권리가 없다.
- 만일 그를 며느리로 삼으려면, 딸에게 해주는 관습대로 해주어야 한다.
- 또 다른 여인을 맞아들이더라도 그 여종이 먹고 입을 것을 대주지 않거나 동거 생활을 중단하지는 못한다.

- Then his master shall bring him unto the judges; he shall also bring him to the door, or unto the door post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an aul; and he shall serve him for ever.
- And if a man sell his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go out as the menservants do.
- If she please not her master, who hath betrothed her to himself, then shall he let her be redeemed: to sell her unto a strange nation he shall have no power, seeing he hath dealt deceitfully with her.
- And if he have betrothed her unto his son, he shall deal with her after the manner of daughters.
- If he take him another wife; her food, her raiment, and her duty of marriage, shall he not diminish.

- 주인이 이 세 가지 의무를 다하지 않으면, 여종은 몸값을 치르지 않고도 나갈 수 있다.
- 남을 때려죽인 자는 반드시 사형에 처하여야 한다.
- 만일 일부러 죽인 것이 아니고, 하느님이 그를 그의 손에 넘겨주어 그리 된 것이면 그런 사람이 피신할 곳은 내가 정하여 주리라.
- 그러나 누구든지 악의로 흉계를 꾸며 이웃을 죽였을 경우에는 그가 나의 제단을 붙잡았더라도 끌어내어 죽여야 한다.
- 부모를 때린 자는 반드시 사형에 처하여야 한다.

- And if he do not these three unto her, then shall she go out free without money.
- He that smiteth a man, so that he die, shall be surely put to death.
- And if a man lie not in wait, but God deliver him into his hand; then I will appoint thee a place whither he shall flee.
- But if a man come presumptuously upon his neighbour, to slay him with guile; thou shalt take him from mine altar, that he may die.
- And he that smiteth his father, or his mother, shall be surely put to death.

- 유괴범은 유괴한 사람을 팔아버렸든 잡아두었든 간에 반드시 사형에 처하여야 한다.
- 부모를 업신여기는 자는 반드시 사형에 처하여야 한다.
- 서로 싸우다가 어느 한쪽이 상대편을 돌이나 주먹으로 때려, 맞은 사람이 죽지 않고 병석에 눕게 되었을 경우
- 그 맞은 사람이 다시 지팡이라도 짚고 나다니게 되면 때린 사람은 체형은 면하나, 그 동안의 치료비와 생활비를 물어주어야 한다.
- 자기 남종이나 여종을 때려 당장에 숨지게 한 자는 반드시 벌을 받아야 한다.

- And he that stealeth a man, and selleth him, or if he be found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death.
- And he that curseth his father, or his mother, shall surely be put to death.
- And if men strive together, and one smite another with a stone, or with his fist, and he die not, but keepeth his bed:
- If he rise again, and walk abroad upon his staff, then shall he that smote him be quit: only he shall pay for the loss of his time, and shall cause him to be thoroughly healed.
- And if a man smite his servant, or his maid, with a rod, and he die under his hand; he shall be surely punished.

- 다만 그 종이 하루나 이틀만 더 살아 있어도 벌을 면한다. 종은 주인의 재산이기 때문이다.
- 사람들이 싸우다가 임신한 여인을 밀쳐서 낙태시켰을 경우, 다른 사고만 없으면 그 여인의 남편이 요구하는 배상액을 재판관의 조정 하에 지불해야 한다.
- 그러나 다른 사고가 생겨 목숨을 앗았으면 제 목숨으로 갚아야 한다.
- 눈은 눈으로, 이는 이로, 손은 손으로, 발은 발로,
- 화상은 화상으로, 상처는 상처로, 멍은 멍으로 갚아야 한다.

- Notwithstanding, if he continue a day or two, he shall not be punished: for he is his money.
- If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.
- And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,
- Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,
- Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.

- 자기 남종이나 여종의 눈을 때려 멀게 했으면 그 눈 대신에 종에게 자유를 주어 내보내야 한다.
- 또 자기 남종이나 여종의 이를 때려 부러뜨렸으면 그 이 대신에 종에게 자유를 주어 내보내야 한다.
- 황소가 남자든 여자든 사람을 뿔로 받아 죽였을 경우에는 그 황소를 돌로 쳐죽여야 한다. 그 고기는 먹지 못한다. 그러나 황소의 임자에게는 죄가 없다.
- 만일 그 황소가 본래 받는 버릇이 있어 그 임자에게 주의를 주었는데도 잘 지키지 않았기 때문에 남자든 여자든 사람을 받아 죽였을 경우에는 황소만 돌로 쳐죽일 것이 아니라 그 임자도 죽여야 한다.
- 만일 보상금을 요구해 오면 목숨 값으로 요구하는 보상금을 다 물어야 한다.

- And if a man smite the eye of his servant, or the eye of his maid, that it perish; he shall let him go free for his eye's sake.
- And if he smite out his manservant's tooth, or his maidservant's tooth; he shall let him go free for his tooth's sake.
- If an ox gore a man or a woman, that they die: then the ox shall be surely stoned, and his flesh shall not be eaten; but the owner of the ox shall be quit.
- But if the ox were wont to push with his horn in time past, and it hath been testified to his owner, and he hath not kept him in, but that he hath killed a man or a woman; the ox shall be stoned, and his owner also shall be put to death.
- If there be laid on him a sum of money, then he shall give for the ransom of his life whatsoever is laid upon him.

- 황소가 남의 아들이나 딸을 받았을 경우에도 이와 꼭 같은 법이 적용된다.
- 황소가 남의 남종이나 여종을 받았으면 그 종의 주인에게 은 삼십 세겔을 물어주고 황소는 돌로 쳐죽여야 한다.
- 누구든지 물웅덩이를 열어두거나 물웅덩이를 파고 덮지 않아서 황소나 나귀가 거기에 빠졌을 경우에는,
- 그 물웅덩이의 임자가 짐승의 임자에게 돈으로 보상해야 한다. 그 대신 죽은 짐승은 그의 것이 된다.
- 어떤 사람의 황소가 이웃집 황소를 받아서 죽였을 경우에는 산 황소를 팔아서 그 돈을 나누어가지고, 죽은 황소도 나누어가져야 한다.

- Whether he have gored a son, or have gored a daughter, according to this judgment shall it be done unto him.
- If the ox shall push a manservant or a maidservant; he shall give unto their master thirty shekels of silver, and the ox shall be stoned.
- And if a man shall open a pit, or if a man shall dig a pit, and not cover it, and an ox or an ass fall therein;
- The owner of the pit shall make it good, and give money unto the owner of them; and the dead beast shall be his.
- And if one man's ox hurt another's, that he die; then they shall sell the live ox, and divide the money of it; and the dead ox also they shall divide.

- 만일 임자가 잘 지키지 않았을 경우에는 산 황소를 대신 주고 죽은 황소를 가져야 한다.

- Or if it be known that the ox hath used to push in time past, and his owner hath not kept him in; he shall surely pay ox for ox; and the dead shall be his own.
