- 예수의 일행이 그 곳을 떠나 갈릴래아 지방을 지나가게 되었는데 예수께서는 이 일이 사람들에게 알려지는 것을 원치 않으셨다.
- 그것은 예수께서 제자들을 따로 가르치고 계셨기 때문이다. 그는 제자들에게 "사람의 아들이 잡혀 사람들의 손에 넘어가 그들에게 죽었다가 사흘 만에 다시 살아날 것이다." 하고 일러주셨다.
- 그러나 제자들은 그 말씀을 깨닫지 못했고 묻기조차 두려워하였다.
- 그들은 가파르나움에 이르렀다. 예수께서는 집에 들어가시자 제자들에게 "길에서 무슨 일로 다투었느냐?" 하고 물으셨다.
- 제자들은 길에서 누가 제일 높은 사람이냐 하는 문제로 서로 다투었기 때문에 아무 대답도 하지 못하였다.

- And they departed thence, and passed through Galilee; and he would not that any man should know it.
- For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day.
- But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask him.
- And he came to Capernaum: and being in the house he asked them, What was it that ye disputed among yourselves by the way?
- But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest.

- 예수께서는 자리에 앉아 열두 제자를 곁으로 부르셨다. 그리고 "첫째가 되고자 하는 사람은 꼴찌가 되어 모든 사람을 섬기는 사람이 되어야 한다." 하고 말씀하신 다음
- 어린이 하나를 데려다가 그들 앞에 세우시고 그를 안으시며 제자들에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다.
- "누구든지 내 이름으로 이런 어린이 하나를 받아들이면 곧 나를 받아들이는 것이고, 또 나를 받아들이는 사람은 나만을 받아들이는 것이 아니라 곧 나를 보내신 이를 받아들이는 것이다."
- 요한이 예수께 "선생님, 어떤 사람이 선생님의 이름으로 마귀를 쫓아내는 것을 보았는데 그는 우리와 함께 다니는 사람이 아니었습니다. 그래서 그런 일을 못하게 막았습니다." 하고 말하였다.
- 예수께서는 "말리지 마라. 내 이름으로 기적을 행한 사람이 그 자리에서 나를 욕하지는 못할 것이다.

- And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.
- And he took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when he had taken him in his arms, he said unto them,
- Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.
- And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us.
- But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.

- 우리를 반대하지 않는 사람은 우리를 지지하는 사람이다.
- 나는 분명히 말한다. 너희가 그리스도의 사람이라고 하여 너희에게 물 한 잔이라도 주는 사람은 반드시 자기의 상을 받을 것이다."
- "또 나를 믿는 이 보잘것없는 사람들 가운데 누구 하나라도 죄짓게 하는 사람은 그 목에 연자 맷돌을 달고 바다에 던져지는 편이 오히려 나을 것이다.
- 손이 죄를 짓게 하거든 그 손을 찍어버려라. 두 손을 가지고 꺼지지 않는 지옥의 불 속에 들어가는 것보다는 불구의 몸이 되더라도 영원한 생명에 들어가는 편이 나을 것이다.

- For he that is not against us is on our part.
- For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.
- And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.
- And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
- Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

- 발이 죄를 짓게 하거든 그 발을 찍어버려라. 두 발을 가지고 지옥에 던져지는 것보다는 절름발이가 되더라도 영원한 생명에 들어가는 편이 나을 것이다.

- 또 눈이 죄를 짓게 하거든 그 눈을 빼어버려라. 두 눈을 가지고 지옥에 들어가는 것보다는 애꾸눈이 되더라도 하느님 나라에 들어가는 편이 나을 것이다.
- 지옥에서는 그들을 파먹는 구더기도 죽지 않고 불도 꺼지지 않는다.
- 누구나 다 불소금에 절여질 것이다.

- And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
- Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
- And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:
- Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
- For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.

- 소금은 좋은 것이다. 그러나 소금이 짠맛을 잃으면 무엇으로 다시 그 소금을 짜게 하겠느냐? 너희는 마음에 소금을 간직하고 서로 화목하게 지내라."

- Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.
