- 엘리사벳이 아기를 가진 지 여섯 달이 되었을 때에 하느님께서는 천사 가브리엘을 갈릴래아 지방 나자렛이라는 동네로 보내시어
- 다윗 가문의 요셉이라는 사람과 약혼한 처녀를 찾아가게 하셨다. 그 처녀의 이름은 마리아였다.
- 천사는 마리아의 집으로 들어가, "은총을 가득히 받은 이여, 기뻐하여라. 주께서 너와 함께 계신다." 하고 인사하였다.
- 마리아는 몹시 당황하며 도대체 그 인사말이 무슨 뜻일까 하고 곰곰이 생각하였다.
- 그러자 천사는 다시 "두려워하지 마라, 마리아. 너는 하느님의 은총을 받았다.

- And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,
- To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.
- And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
- And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
- And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.

- 이제 아기를 가져 아들을 낳을 터이니 이름을 예수라 하여라.
- 그 아기는 위대한 분이 되어 지극히 높으신 하느님의 아들이라 불릴 것이다. 주 하느님께서 그에게 조상 다윗의 왕위를 주시어
- 야곱의 후손을 영원히 다스리는 왕이 되겠고 그의 나라는 끝이 없을 것이다." 하고 일러주었다.
- 이 말을 듣고 마리아가 "이 몸은 처녀입니다. 어떻게 그런 일이 있을 수 있겠습니까?" 하자
- 천사는 이렇게 대답하였다. "성령이 너에게 내려오시고 지극히 높으신 분의 힘이 감싸주실 것이다. 그러므로 태어나실 그 거룩한 아기를 하느님의 아들이라 부르게 될 것이다.

- And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
- He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
- And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
- Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
- And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

- 네 친척 엘리사벳을 보아라. 아기를 낳지 못하는 여자라고들 하였지만, 그 늙은 나이에도 아기를 가진 지가 벌써 여섯 달이나 되었다.
- 하느님께서 하시는 일은 안 되는 것이 없다."
- 이 말을 들은 마리아는 "이 몸은 주님의 종입니다. 지금 말씀대로 저에게 이루어지기를 바랍니다." 하고 대답하였다. 그러자 천사는 마리아에게서 떠나갔다.
- 며칠 뒤에 마리아는 길을 떠나 걸음을 서둘러 유다 산골에 있는 한 동네를 찾아가서
- 즈가리야의 집에 들어가 엘리사벳에게 문안을 드렸다.

- And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.
- For with God nothing shall be impossible.
- And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
- And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda;
- And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth.

- 엘리사벳이 마리아의 문안을 받았을 때에 그의 뱃속에 든 아기가 뛰놀았다. 엘리사벳은 성령을 가득히 받아
- 큰소리로 외쳤다. "모든 여자들 가운데 가장 복되시며 태중의 아드님 또한 복되십니다.
- 주님의 어머니께서 나를 찾아주시다니 어찌된 일입니까?
- 문안의 말씀이 내 귀를 울렸을 때에 내 태중의 아기도 기뻐하며 뛰놀았습니다.
- 주님께서 약속하신 말씀이 꼭 이루어지리라 믿으셨으니 정녕 복되십니다."

- And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:
- And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.
- And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
- For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.
- And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.

- 이 말을 듣고 마리아는 이렇게 노래를 불렀다. "내 영혼이 주님을 찬양하며
- 내 구세주 하느님을 생각하는 기쁨에 이 마음 설렙니다.
- 주께서 여종의 비천한 신세를 돌보셨습니다. 이제부터는 온 백성이 나를 복되다 하리니
- 전능하신 분께서 나에게 큰일을 해주신 덕분입니다. 주님은 거룩하신 분,
- 주님을 두려워하는 이들에게는 대대로 자비를 베푸십니다.

- And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,
- And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
- For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
- For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name.
- And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation.

- 주님은 전능하신 팔을 펼치시어 마음이 교만한 자들을 흩으셨습니다.
- 권세 있는 자들을 그 자리에서 내치시고 보잘것없는 이들을 높이셨으며
- 배고픈 사람은 좋은 것으로 배불리시고 부요한 사람은 빈손으로 돌려보내셨습니다.
- 주님은 약속하신 자비를 기억하시어 당신의 종 이스라엘을 도우셨습니다.
- 우리 조상들에게 약속하신 대로 그 자비를 아브라함과 그 후손에게 영원토록 베푸실 것입니다."

- He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
- He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree.
- He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.
- He hath holpen his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy;
- As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever.

- 마리아는 엘리사벳의 집에서 석 달 가량 함께 지내고 자기 집으로 돌아갔다.

- And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house.
