- 예수께서 벙어리 마귀 하나를 쫓아내셨는데 마귀가 나가자 벙어리는 곧 말을 하게 되었다. 군중은 이것을 보고 깜짝 놀랐다.
- 그러나 더러는 "그는 마귀의 두목 베엘제불의 힘을 빌려 마귀들을 쫓아낸다." 하고 말하였으며
- 또 예수의 속을 떠보려고 하늘에서 오는 기적을 보여달라고 하는 사람도 있었다.
- 그러나 예수께서는 그들의 생각을 알아채시고 이렇게 말씀하셨다. "어느 나라든지 갈라져서 싸우면 쓰러지게 마련이고 한 집안도 갈라져서 서로 싸우면 망하는 법이다.
- 너희는 내가 베엘제불의 힘을 빌려 마귀를 쫓아낸다고 하는데 만일 사탄이 갈라져서 서로 싸우면 그 나라가 어떻게 유지되겠느냐?

- And he was casting out a devil, and it was dumb. And it came to pass, when the devil was gone out, the dumb spake; and the people wondered.
- But some of them said, He casteth out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils.
- And others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven.
- But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth.
- If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub.

- 내가 베엘제불의 힘을 빌려 마귀를 쫓아낸다면 너희 사람들은 누구의 힘으로 마귀를 쫓아내는 것이냐? 바로 그 사람들이 너희의 말이 그르다는 것을 지적할 것이다.
- 그러나 나는 하느님의 능력으로 마귀를 쫓아내고 있다. 그렇다면 하느님의 나라는 이미 너희에게 와 있는 것이다.
- 힘센 사람이 빈틈없이 무장하고 자기 집을 지키는 한 그의 재산은 안전하다.
- 그러나 그보다 더 힘센 사람이 달려들어 그를 무찌르면 그가 의지했던 무기는 모조리 빼앗기고 재산은 약탈당하여 남의 것이 될 것이다.
- 내 편에 서지 않는 사람은 나를 반대하는 사람이며 나와 함께 모아들이지 않는 사람은 헤치는 사람이다."

- And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges.
- But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.
- When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace:
- But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.
- He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth.

- "더러운 악령이 어떤 사람 안에 들어 있다가 거기서 나오면 물 없는 광야에서 쉼터를 찾아 헤맨다. 그러다가 찾지 못하면 '전에 있던 집으로 되돌아가야지.' 하면서
- 돌아간다. 그리고 그 집이 말끔히 치워지고 잘 정돈되어 있는 것을 보고는
- 다시 나와 자기보다 더 흉악한 악령 일곱을 데리고 들어가 자리잡고 살게 된다. 그러면 그 사람의 형편은 처음보다 더 비참하게 된다."
- 예수께서 이 말씀을 하고 계실 때 군중 속에서 한 여자가 큰소리로 "당신을 낳아서 젖을 먹인 여인은 얼마나 행복합니까!" 하고 외치자
- 예수께서는 "하느님의 말씀을 듣고 그 말씀을 지키는 사람들이 오히려 행복하다." 하고 대답하셨다.

- When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out.
- And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished.
- Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.
- And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked.
- But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

- 군중이 계속 모여들고 있었다. 그 때 예수께서는 "이 세대가 왜 이렇게도 악할까!" 하고 탄식하시며 "이 세대가 기적을 구하지만 요나의 기적밖에는 따로 보여줄 것이 없다.
- 니느웨 사람들에게 요나의 사건이 기적이 된 것처럼 이 세대 사람들에게 사람의 아들도 기적의 표가 될 것이다.
- 심판 날이 오면 남쪽 나라의 여왕이 이 세대 사람들과 함께 일어나 그들을 단죄할 것이다. 그는 솔로몬의 지혜를 배우려고 땅 끝에서 왔던 것이다. 그러나 여기에는 솔로몬보다 더 큰 사람이 있다.
- 심판 날이 오면 니느웨 사람들이 이 세대와 함께 일어나 이 세대를 단죄할 것이다. 그들은 요나의 설교를 듣고 회개했던 것이다. 그러나 여기에는 요나보다 더 큰 사람이 있다." 하고 말씀하셨다.
- "등불을 켜서 숨겨두거나 됫박으로 덮어두는 사람은 없다. 누구나 등경 위에 얹어둔다. 그래야 방안에 들어오는 사람들이 그 빛을 볼 수 있지 않겠느냐?

- And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet.
- For as Jonas was a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation.
- The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and condemn them: for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.
- The men of Nineve shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.
- No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light.

- 몸의 등불은 눈이다. 네 눈이 성하면 온몸이 밝을 것이며 네 눈이 병들었으면 온몸이 어두울 것이다.
- 그러니 네 안에 있는 빛이 어둠이 아닌지 잘 살펴보아라.
- 너의 온몸이 어두운 데가 하나 없이 빛으로 가득 차 있다면 마치 등불이 그 빛을 너에게 비출 때와 같이 너의 온몸이 밝을 것이다."

- The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.
- Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.
- If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.
