- 빌라도는 대사제들과 지도자들과 백성들을 불러모으고
- 이렇게 말하였다. "너희는 이 사람이 백성들을 선동한다고 끌고 왔지만 너희가 보는 앞에서 직접 심문을 했는데도 나는 너희의 고발을 뒷받침할 만한 아무런 죄상도 찾지 못하였다.
- 헤로데가 이 사람을 우리에게 돌려보낸 것을 보면 그도 아무런 죄를 찾지 못한 것이 아니냐? 보다시피 이 사람은 사형에 해당하는 일은 하나도 하지 않았다.
- 그래서 나는 이 사람을 매질이나 해서 놓아줄 생각이다."

- And Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,
- Said unto them, Ye have brought this man unto me, as one that perverteth the people: and, behold, I, having examined him before you, have found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him:
- No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him; and, lo, nothing worthy of death is done unto him.
- I will therefore chastise him, and release him.
- (For of necessity he must release one unto them at the feast.)

- 그러자 온 무리가 일제히 "그 사람은 죽이고 바라빠를 놓아주시오!" 하고 소리질렀다.
- 바라빠는 그 도시에서 폭동을 일으키고 살인까지 하여 감옥에 갇혀 있는 사람이었다.
- 빌라도는 예수를 놓아주고 싶어서 그들에게 다시 그 뜻을 밝혔으나
- 그들은 굽히지 않고 "십자가형이오! 십자가에 못박으시오!" 하고 소리질렀다.
- 빌라도는 세 번째로 "도대체 이 사람이 무슨 죄를 지었단 말이냐? 나는 이 사람에게서 사형에 처할 죄를 찾아내지 못하였다. 그러니 이 사람을 매질이나 해서 놓아줄 생각이다." 하고 말하였으나

- And they cried out all at once, saying, Away with this man, and release unto us Barabbas:
- (Who for a certain sedition made in the city, and for murder, was cast into prison.)
- Pilate therefore, willing to release Jesus, spake again to them.
- But they cried, saying, Crucify him, crucify him.
- And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil hath he done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him, and let him go.

- 무리들은 더욱 악을 써가며 예수를 십자가에 못박아야 한다고 소리질렀다. 마침내 그들의 고함소리가 걷잡을 수 없게 되자
- 빌라도는 그들의 요구를 들어주겠다고 선언한 다음
- 폭동과 살인죄로 감옥에 갇혀 있던 바라빠는 그들의 요구대로 놓아주고 예수는 그들 마음대로 하라고 넘겨주었다.
- 그들은 예수를 끌고 나가다가 시골에서 성안으로 들어오고 있던 시몬이라는 키레네 사람을 붙들어 십자가를 지우고 예수의 뒤를 따라가게 하였다.
- 수많은 사람들이 예수를 뒤따랐는데 그 중에는 예수를 보고 가슴을 치며 통곡하는 여자들도 있었다.

- And they were instant with loud voices, requiring that he might be crucified. And the voices of them and of the chief priests prevailed.
- And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required.
- And he released unto them him that for sedition and murder was cast into prison, whom they had desired; but he delivered Jesus to their will.
- And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon, a Cyrenian, coming out of the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus.
- And there followed him a great company of people, and of women, which also bewailed and lamented him.

- 예수께서는 그 여자들을 돌아보시며 "예루살렘의 여인들아, 나를 위하여 울지 말고 너와 네 자녀들을 위하여 울어라.
- '아기를 낳지 못하는 여자들과, 아기를 낳아보지 못하고 젖을 빨려보지 못한 여자들이 행복하다.' 하고 말할 때가 이제 올 것이다.
- 그 때 사람들은 산을 보고 '우리 위에 무너져 내려라.' 할 것이며, 언덕을 보고 '우리를 가려달라.' 할 것이다.
- 생나무가 이런 일을 당하거든 마른 나무야 오죽하겠느냐?" 하고 말씀하셨다.
- 다른 죄수 두 사람도 예수와 함께 사형장으로 끌려가고 있었다.

- But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.
- For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck.
- Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.
- For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?
- And there were also two other, malefactors, led with him to be put to death.

- 해골산이라는 곳에 이르러 사람들은 거기에서 예수를 십자가에 못박았고 죄수 두 사람도 십자가형에 처하여 좌우편에 한 사람씩 세워놓았다.
- 예수께서는 "아버지, 저 사람들을 용서하여 주십시오! 그들은 자기가 하는 일을 모르고 있습니다." 하고 기원하셨다. 예수를 십자가에 못박은 자들은 주사위를 던져 예수의 옷을 나누어가졌다.
- 사람들이 곁에 서서 쳐다보고 있는 동안 그들의 지도자들은 예수를 보고 "이 사람이 남들을 살렸으니 정말 하느님께서 택하신 그리스도라면 어디 자기도 살려보라지!" 하며 조롱하였다.
- 군인들도 또한 예수를 희롱하면서 가까이 가서 신 포도주를 권하고
- "네가 유다인의 왕이라면 자신이나 살려보아라." 하며 빈정거렸다.

- And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.
- Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
- And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God.
- And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, and offering him vinegar,
- And saying, If thou be the king of the Jews, save thyself.

- 예수의 머리 위에는 '이 사람은 유다인의 왕'이라는 죄목이 적혀 있었다.
- 예수와 함께 십자가에 달린 죄수 중 하나도 예수를 모욕하면서 "당신은 그리스도가 아니오? 당신도 살리고 우리도 살려보시오!" 하고 말하였다.
- 그러나 다른 죄수는 "너도 저분과 같은 사형 선고를 받은 주제에 하느님이 두렵지도 않으냐?
- 우리가 한 짓을 보아서 우리는 이런 벌을 받아 마땅하지만 저분이야 무슨 잘못이 있단 말이냐?" 하고 꾸짖고는
- "예수님, 예수님께서 왕이 되어 오실 때에 저를 꼭 기억하여 주십시오" 하고 간청하였다.

- And a superscription also was written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
- And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.
- But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?
- And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.
- And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.

- 예수께서는 "오늘 네가 정녕 나와 함께 낙원에 들어갈 것이다." 하고 대답하셨다.

- And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.
