- 유다인들의 과월절이 가까워지자 예수께서는 예루살렘에 올라가셨다.
- 그리고 성전 뜰에서 소와 양과 비둘기를 파는 장사꾼들과 환금상들이 앉아 있는 것을 보시고
- 밧줄로 채찍을 만들어 양과 소를 모두 쫓아내시고 환금상들의 돈을 쏟아버리며 그 상을 둘러엎으셨다.
- 그리고 비둘기 장수들에게 "이것들을 거두어가라. 다시는 내 아버지의 집을 장사하는 집으로 만들지 마라." 하고 꾸짖으셨다.
- 이 광경을 본 제자들의 머리에는 '하느님이시여, 하느님의 집을 아끼는 내 열정이 나를 불사르리이다.' 하신 성서의 말씀이 떠올랐다.

- And the Jews' passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
- And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:
- And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables;
- And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise.
- And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.

- 그 때에 유다인들이 나서서 "당신이 이런 일을 하는데, 당신에게 이럴 권한이 있음을 증명해 보시오. 도대체 무슨 기적을 보여주겠소?" 하고 예수께 대들었다.
- 예수께서는 "이 성전을 허물어라. 내가 사흘 안에 다시 세우겠다." 하고 대답하셨다.
- 그들이 예수께 "이 성전을 짓는 데 사십육 년이나 걸렸는데, 그래 당신은 그것을 사흘이면 다시 세우겠단 말이오?" 하고 또 대들었다.
- 그런데 예수께서 성전이라 하신 것은 당신의 몸을 두고 하신 말씀이었다.
- 제자들은 예수께서 죽었다가 부활하신 뒤에야 이 말씀을 생각하고 비로소 성서의 말씀과 예수의 말씀을 믿게 되었다.

- Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?
- Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
- Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days?
- But he spake of the temple of his body.
- When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.

- 예수께서는 과월절을 맞아 예루살렘에 머무르시는 동안 여러 가지 기적을 행하셨는데, 많은 사람들이 그것을 보고 예수를 믿게 되었다.
- 그러나 예수께서는 그들에게 마음을 주지 않으셨다. 그것은 사람들을 너무나 잘 아실 뿐만 아니라
- 누구에 대해서도 사람의 말은 들어보실 필요가 없으셨기 때문이다. 예수께서는 사람의 마음속까지 꿰뚫어 보시는 분이었다.

- Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did.
- But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men,
- And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.
