- 예수께서는 올리브 산으로 가셨다.
- 다음날 이른 아침에 예수께서 또다시 성전에 나타나셨다. 그러자 많은 사람들이 몰려들었기 때문에 예수께서는 그들 앞에 앉아 가르치기 시작하셨다.
- 그 때에 율법 학자들과 바리사이파 사람들이 간음하다 잡힌 여자 한 사람을 데리고 와서 앞에 내세우고
- "선생님, 이 여자가 간음하다가 현장에서 잡혔습니다.
- 우리의 모세 법에는 이런 죄를 범한 여자는 돌로 쳐죽이라고 하였는데 선생님 생각은 어떻습니까?" 하고 물었다.

- Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.
- And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.
- And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,
- They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.
- Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?

- 그들은 예수께 올가미를 씌워 고발할 구실을 찾으려고 이런 말을 하였던 것이다. 그러나 예수께서는 몸을 굽혀 손가락으로 땅바닥에 무엇인가 쓰고 계셨다.
- 그들이 하도 대답을 재촉하므로 예수께서는 고개를 드시고 "너희 중에 누구든지 죄없는 사람이 먼저 저 여자를 돌로 쳐라." 하시고
- 다시 몸을 굽혀 계속해서 땅바닥에 무엇인가 쓰셨다.
- 그들은 이 말씀을 듣자 나이 많은 사람부터 하나하나 가버리고 마침내 예수 앞에는 그 한가운데 서 있던 여자만이 남아 있었다.
- 예수께서 고개를 드시고 그 여자에게 "그들은 다 어디 있느냐? 너의 죄를 묻던 사람은 아무도 없느냐?" 하고 물으셨다.

- This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.
- So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
- And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.
- And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
- When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?

- "아무도 없습니다, 주님." 그 여자가 이렇게 대답하자 예수께서는 "나도 네 죄를 묻지 않겠다. 어서 돌아가라. 그리고 이제부터 다시는 죄짓지 마라." 하고 말씀하셨다.)
- 예수께서는 사람들에게 또 말씀하셨다. "나는 세상의 빛이다. 나를 따라오는 사람은 어둠 속을 걷지 않고 생명의 빛을 얻을 것이다."
- 그러자 바리사이파 사람들은 "당신이 당신 자신을 증언하고 있으니 그것은 참된 증언이 못 됩니다." 하며 대들었다.
- 예수께서는 이렇게 대답하셨다. "나는 내가 어디에서 와서 어디로 가는지 알고 있으니 내가 비록 나 자신을 증언한다 해도 내 증언은 참되다. 그러나 너희는 내가 어디에서 와서 어디로 가는지를 모른다."
- "너희는 사람의 기준으로 사람을 판단하지만 나는 결코 아무도 판단하지 않는다.

- She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
- Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
- The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.
- Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.
- Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.

- 혹시 내가 무슨 판단을 하더라도 내 판단은 공정하다. 그것은 나 혼자서 판단하지 아니하고 나를 보내신 아버지와 함께 판단하기 때문이다.
- 너희의 율법에도 두 사람이 증언하면 그 증언은 참되다고 기록되어 있지 않느냐?
- 내가 바로 나 자신을 증언하고 또 나를 보내신 아버지께서도 증언해 주신다."
- 이 말씀을 듣고 그들은 "당신 아버지가 도대체 어디 있습니까?" 하고 물었다. 예수께서는 "너희는 나를 알지 못할 뿐더러 나의 아버지도 알지 못한다. 너희가 만일 나를 알았더라면 나의 아버지도 알았을 것이다." 하고 대답하셨다.
- 이것은 예수께서 성전에서 가르치실 때에 헌금궤가 있는 곳에서 하신 말씀이었다. 그러나 아무도 그를 잡지 않았다. 때가 오지 않았던 것이다.

- And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.
- It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.
- I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.
- Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.
- These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come.
