열왕기하 10:18-12:21

 예후는 정치적 숙청에 이어 바알 숭배자들을 몰살하는 종교 개혁을 단행하였다. 한편 남유다에서는 아하시야가 살해되자 아달랴가 왕위 찬탈 음모를 펼쳐 갔다. 그러나 이러한 와중에서 구사 일생으로 목숨을 건진 요아스는 여호야다의 도움으로 왕위를 회복하여 바알 숭배를 척결하고 성전을 수리하는 등 선정을 해나갔다. 그러나 그는 말년에 하사엘의 침입시 성전 보물을 조공으로 바치는 불신앙적 모습을 보임으로써 신하들의 칼에 맞아 죽는 심판을 받았다.
  
  예후의 종교 개혁(10:18-10:36)    
 
  1. 그리고 나서 예후는 모든 백성을 모아놓고 말하였다. "아합은 바알을 조금밖에 섬기지 않았지만, 예후는 바알을 열성으로 섬길 것이다.
  2. 이제 바알을 섬기는 예언자들과 사제들을 한 사람도 빠뜨리지 말고 불러오너라. 내가 곧 바알에게 성대한 제사를 드리리라. 무릇 이 제사에 빠지는 자는 살아 남지 못하리라." 예후는 바알 섬기는 자들을 박멸하려고 이런 계략을 썼던 것이다.
  3. 성회를 열어 바알을 예배하도록 하라는 예후의 지시를 따라 마침내 성회가 선포되었다.
  4. 예후는 이스라엘 각지에 사람을 보냈다. 바알을 섬기는 자들이 한 사람도 남지 않고 모여들어 바알의 신전으로 들어가니, 이쪽 벽에서 저쪽 벽까지 가득 차게 되었다.
  5. 예후는 의상 맡은 자에게 바알을 섬기는 자들이 입을 예복을 가져오라고 명하였다. 그가 그들이 입을 예복을 가져오자
  1. And Jehu gathered all the people together, and said unto them, Ahab served Baal a little; but Jehu shall serve him much.
  2. Now therefore call unto me all the prophets of Baal, all his servants, and all his priests; let none be wanting: for I have a great sacrifice to do to Baal; whosoever shall be wanting, he shall not live. But Jehu did it in subtilty, to the intent that he might destroy the worshippers of Baal.
  3. And Jehu said, Proclaim a solemn assembly for Baal. And they proclaimed it.
  4. And Jehu sent through all Israel: and all the worshippers of Baal came, so that there was not a man left that came not. And they came into the house of Baal; and the house of Baal was full from one end to another.
  5. And he said unto him that was over the vestry, Bring forth vestments for all the worshippers of Baal. And he brought them forth vestments.
  1. 예후는 레갑의 아들 여호나답과 함께 바알의 신전 안으로 들어갔다. 그리고 모든 바알을 섬기는 자들에게 말하였다. "여기 이 자리에 당신들과 함께 야훼의 종이 한 사람이라도 있지 않은가 잘들 살펴보시오. 다만 바알을 섬기는 사람들만 있도록 하시오."
  2. 이렇게 해서 그들은 희생제와 번제를 드리려고 안으로 들어갔다. 한편 예후는 신전 밖에 군인 팔십 명을 배치하고 일렀다. "이 바알의 무리들을 너희에게 맡긴다. 한 놈이라도 놓쳐서는 안 된다. 하나라도 놓치면 그 놓친 자가 대신 죽으리라."
  3. 번제를 다 드리고 나자 예후는 근위대와 장교들에게 명하였다. "안으로 들어가서 한 놈도 놓치지 말고 다 죽여라." 그리하여 근위대와 장교들이 들어가 무리를 모두 칼로 쳐죽였다. 이윽고 그들은 바알 신전의 지성소에까지 들어가
  4. 바알 신전에 있던 목상들을 밖으로 꺼내다가 불에 태우고
  5. 바알 제단을 부수며 신전을 헐어 변소를 만들었는데 그것이 오늘까지 그냥 남아 있다.
  1. And Jehu went, and Jehonadab the son of Rechab, into the house of Baal, and said unto the worshippers of Baal, Search, and look that there be here with you none of the servants of the LORD, but the worshippers of Baal only.
  2. And when they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings, Jehu appointed fourscore men without, and said, If any of the men whom I have brought into your hands escape, he that letteth him go, his life shall be for the life of him.
  3. And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, that Jehu said to the guard and to the captains, Go in, and slay them; let none come forth. And they smote them with the edge of the sword; and the guard and the captains cast them out, and went to the city of the house of Baal.
  4. And they brought forth the images out of the house of Baal, and burned them.
  5. And they brake down the image of Baal, and brake down the house of Baal, and made it a draught house unto this day.
  1. 이렇게 하여 예후는 이스라엘에서 바알 숭배를 뿌리뽑았다.
  2. 그러나 그는 이스라엘을 죄에 빠뜨린 느밧의 아들 여로보암의 죄만은 버리지 못하여 베델과 단에 세운 금송아지를 그대로 섬겼다.
  3. 야훼께서 예후에게 말씀하셨다. "너는 내 마음에 들도록 일을 잘하였다. 나의 뜻대로 아합 가문을 잘 처치하였다. 그러므로 네 후손이 사 대에 이르기까지 이스라엘 왕위에 오르리라."
  4. 그러나 예후는 이스라엘의 하느님 야훼의 법을 준수하는 데 성의를 다하지 못하였다. 그는 이스라엘을 죄에 빠뜨린 여로보암의 죄를 버리지 못하였다.
  5. 이 때부터 야훼께서 이스라엘을 적에게 찢기게 하시니 하자엘이 이스라엘 국경을 사방에서 공격해 왔다.
  1. Thus Jehu destroyed Baal out of Israel.
  2. Howbeit from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, Jehu departed not from after them, to wit, the golden calves that were in Bethel, and that were in Dan.
  3. And the LORD said unto Jehu, Because thou hast done well in executing that which is right in mine eyes, and hast done unto the house of Ahab according to all that was in mine heart, thy children of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel.
  4. But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the LORD God of Israel with all his heart: for he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam, which made Israel to sin.
  5. In those days the LORD began to cut Israel short: and Hazael smote them in all the coasts of Israel;
  1. 그는 요르단 강 동쪽 길르앗과 가드와 르우벤과 므나쎄 전지역, 아르논 계곡에 인접한 아로엘, 길르앗과 바산 지방을 공격하였다.
  2. 예후가 용맹을 떨치며 무슨 일을 했는지 그 나머지 역사는 이스라엘 왕조실록에 기록되어 있다.
  3. 예후는 세상을 떠나 선조들에게로 돌아가 사마리아에 안장되었고 그의 아들 여호아하즈가 뒤를 이어 왕위에 올랐다.
  4. 예후는 사마리아에서 이십팔 년 동안 이스라엘을 다스렸다.
  1. From Jordan eastward, all the land of Gilead, the Gadites, and the Reubenites, and the Manassites, from Aroer, which is by the river Arnon, even Gilead and Bashan.
  2. Now the rest of the acts of Jehu, and all that he did, and all his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
  3. And Jehu slept with his fathers: and they buried him in Samaria. And Jehoahaz his son reigned in his stead.
  4. And the time that Jehu reigned over Israel in Samaria was twenty and eight years.
 
  아달랴의 섭정(11:1-11:21)    
 
  1. 아하지야의 어머니 아달리야는 자기의 아들이 죽은 것을 보고 곧 왕의 혈육을 모두 죽이기 시작하였다.
  2. 이 때 다른 왕자들은 모두 살해되었으나 아하지야의 아들 요아스만은 그의 고모인 여호세바가 몰래 빼내어 유모와 함께 자기 침실에 숨겨두었으므로 아달리야에게 발각되지 않아 죽음을 면하게 되었다.
  3. 아달리야가 나라를 다스리는 육 년 동안 요아스는 고모와 함께 야훼의 전에 숨어 살았다.
  4. 칠 년째 되던 해에 여호야다가 가리 외인부대의 백인대장들과 근위대 대장들을 야훼의 전으로 불러들여 맹세를 시켜 계약을 맺은 다음, 그들에게 왕자를 내세우고는
  5. 이렇게 지시하였다. "너희는 이렇게 하여라. 너희 가운데 안식일 당번인 자의 삼분의 일은 왕궁을 지키고,
  1. And when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal.
  2. But Jehosheba, the daughter of king Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king's sons which were slain; and they hid him, even him and his nurse, in the bedchamber from Athaliah, so that he was not slain.
  3. And he was with her hid in the house of the LORD six years. And Athaliah did reign over the land.
  4. And the seventh year Jehoiada sent and fetched the rulers over hundreds, with the captains and the guard, and brought them to him into the house of the LORD, and made a covenant with them, and took an oath of them in the house of the LORD, and shewed them the king's son.
  5. And he commanded them, saying, This is the thing that ye shall do; A third part of you that enter in on the sabbath shall even be keepers of the watch of the king's house;
  1. 나머지는 야훼의 성전에서 특별임무를 수행하는데, 삼분의 일은 수르 문을 지키고 삼분의 일은 근위대 뒤쪽 문을 지켜라.
  2. 너희 안식일 비번인 두 부대는 야훼의 성전에서 왕을 지켜라.
  3. 모두들 무기를 가지고 왕을 호위하여라. 그리하여 누구든지 대열에 접근하는 자는 죽여라. 왕께서 어디로 행차하시든지 꼭 곁에서 모셔야 한다."
  4. 백인대장들은 사제 여호야다가 지시한 대로 하였다. 그들은 각기 자기의 부하들, 곧 안식일에 당번인 군인들과 안식일에 비번인 군인들을 거느리고 사제 여호야다에게 나왔다.
  5. 사제는 야훼의 전에 보관되어 있는 다윗 왕의 창과 방패를 부대장들에게 지급하였다.
  1. And a third part shall be at the gate of Sur; and a third part at the gate behind the guard: so shall ye keep the watch of the house, that it be not broken down.
  2. And two parts of all you that go forth on the sabbath, even they shall keep the watch of the house of the LORD about the king.
  3. And ye shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand: and he that cometh within the ranges, let him be slain: and be ye with the king as he goeth out and as he cometh in.
  4. And the captains over the hundreds did according to all things that Jehoiada the priest commanded: and they took every man his men that were to come in on the sabbath, with them that should go out on the sabbath, and came to Jehoiada the priest.
  5. And to the captains over hundreds did the priest give king David's spears and shields, that were in the temple of the LORD.
  1. 근위대 군인들은 모두 무기를 잡고 성전 남쪽에서 북쪽까지 시립하여 제단과 성전을 에워쌌다.
  2. 그 때 여호야다가 왕자를 데리고 나와서 면류관을 씌우고 왕으로서 지킬 법을 주면서 기름을 부어 왕으로 세웠다. 그러자 백성들은 손뼉을 치며 "임금님 만세!"를 외쳤다.
  3. 아달리야가 백성들의 소리를 듣고 백성이 모인 야훼의 전으로 가보니,
  4. 왕이 관례를 따라 기둥 옆에 서 있고 그 곁에서 사람들이 나팔을 불며 노래하고 있었다. 나팔 소리가 울려 퍼지는 가운데 온 지방민이 기뻐 뛰는 것을 보고 아달리야는 옷을 찢으며 "반역이다, 반역이다!" 하고 외쳤다.
  5. 그 때 사제 여호야다가 백인대장들에게 명령하였다. "저 계집을 울 밖으로 끌어내어라. 따르는 자가 있거든 칼로 쳐죽여라. 그를 야훼의 전 안에서 죽여서는 안 된다."
  1. And the guard stood, every man with his weapons in his hand, round about the king, from the right corner of the temple to the left corner of the temple, along by the altar and the temple.
  2. And he brought forth the king's son, and put the crown upon him, and gave him the testimony; and they made him king, and anointed him; and they clapped their hands, and said, God save the king.
  3. And when Athaliah heard the noise of the guard and of the people, she came to the people into the temple of the LORD.
  4. And when she looked, behold, the king stood by a pillar, as the manner was, and the princes and the trumpeters by the king, and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew with trumpets: and Athaliah rent her clothes, and cried, Treason, Treason.
  5. But Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains of the hundreds, the officers of the host, and said unto them, Have her forth without the ranges: and him that followeth her kill with the sword. For the priest had said, Let her not be slain in the house of the LORD.
  1. 그러자 군인들은 그 여자를 붙잡아 군마가 출입하는 문으로 해서 궁궐에 들어가 거기에서 죽였다.
  2. 그런 다음 여호야다는 이스라엘 백성이 야훼의 백성이 되는 계약을 야훼와 왕과 백성들 사이에서 맺고 또 왕과 백성들 사이에도 계약을 맺었다.
  3. 온 지방민들이 몰려가 바알 신전을 허물고 그 제단과 우상을 산산조각으로 부수었다. 그리고 바알의 사제 마딴을 제단 앞에서 죽였다. 여호야다 사제는 야훼의 전에 경비병을 세우고
  4. 백인대장들과 가리 외인부대와 근위대와 온 지방민을 이끌고 왕을 호위하여 야훼의 전에서 나와 근위대 문을 통과하여 왕궁으로 갔다. 거기에서 왕이 옥좌에 오르자,
  5. 온 지방민들은 기뻐서 뛰는데 수도 시민들은 아무 소리도 하지 못했다. 이렇게 아달리야는 대궐에서 칼에 맞아 죽었다.
  1. And they laid hands on her; and she went by the way by the which the horses came into the king's house: and there was she slain.
  2. And Jehoiada made a covenant between the LORD and the king and the people, that they should be the LORD's people; between the king also and the people.
  3. And all the people of the land went into the house of Baal, and brake it down; his altars and his images brake they in pieces thoroughly, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. And the priest appointed officers over the house of the LORD.
  4. And he took the rulers over hundreds, and the captains, and the guard, and all the people of the land; and they brought down the king from the house of the LORD, and came by the way of the gate of the guard to the king's house. And he sat on the throne of the kings.
  5. And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was in quiet: and they slew Athaliah with the sword beside the king's house.
  1. Seven years old was Jehoash when he began to reign.
 
  요아스의 유다 통치(12:1-12:21)    
 
  1. 요아스가 왕위에 오른 것은 일곱 살 때 일이었다.
  2. 요아스가 왕이 된 것은 예후 제칠년의 일이었다. 그는 예루살렘에서 사십 년간 다스렸다. 그의 어머니는 브엘세바 출신으로 이름을 지비야라고 하였다.
  3. 요아스는 사제 여호야다의 가르침을 받아, 평생 야훼의 눈에 드는 바른 정치를 폈다.
  4. 그러나 산당만은 없애지 않았으므로 백성들이 여전히 산당에서 제물을 사르고 향을 피웠다.
  5. 요아스가 사제들에게 지시하였다. "사람들이 야훼의 성전을 위하여 의무적으로 바치는 헌금이나 자원하여 바치는 헌금이나 간에 야훼의 전에 바치는 모든 거룩한 헌금은
  1. In the seventh year of Jehu Jehoash began to reign; and forty years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Zibiah of Beersheba.
  2. And Jehoash did that which was right in the sight of the LORD all his days wherein Jehoiada the priest instructed him.
  3. But the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.
  4. And Jehoash said to the priests, All the money of the dedicated things that is brought into the house of the LORD, even the money of every one that passeth the account, the money that every man is set at, and all the money that cometh into any man's heart to bring into the house of the LORD,
  5. Let the priests take it to them, every man of his acquaintance: and let them repair the breaches of the house, wheresoever any breach shall be found.
  1. 사제들이 각기 담당 회계에게서 받아두었다가 야훼의 전을 수리할 곳이 있으면 그 돈으로 모두 수리하여라."
  2. 그러나 요아스 왕 제이십삼년, 그 때까지 사제들이 성전을 수리하지 않고 있었으므로
  3. 요아스 왕은 여호야다를 비롯하여 다른 사제들을 불러놓고 일렀다. "어찌하여 그대들은 성전을 수리하지 않고 있소? 이제부터 그대들은 회계원들에게서 돈을 받아두지 말고 성전을 수리하는 데 쓰도록 직접 내어주시오."
  4. 사제들은 백성들로부터 돈을 받지도 않으려니와 성전을 수리하는 일도 맡지 않겠다고 하였다.
  5. 사제 여호야다는 큰 궤짝 하나를 가져다가 뚜껑에 구멍을 내어, 야훼의 전 입구 오른쪽에 있는 기둥 옆에 놓아두어 문을 지키는 사제들로 하여금 야훼의 성전에 들어오는 모든 돈을 그 궤짝에 넣게 하였다.
  1. But it was so, that in the three and twentieth year of king Jehoash the priests had not repaired the breaches of the house.
  2. Then king Jehoash called for Jehoiada the priest, and the other priests, and said unto them, Why repair ye not the breaches of the house? now therefore receive no more money of your acquaintance, but deliver it for the breaches of the house.
  3. And the priests consented to receive no more money of the people, neither to repair the breaches of the house.
  4. But Jehoiada the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in the lid of it, and set it beside the altar, on the right side as one cometh into the house of the LORD: and the priests that kept the door put therein all the money that was brought into the house of the LORD.
  5. And it was so, when they saw that there was much money in the chest, that the king's scribe and the high priest came up, and they put up in bags, and told the money that was found in the house of the LORD.
  1. 궤짝 안에 돈이 많이 든 듯싶으면 왕의 비서와 대사제가 와서 야훼의 전에 있는 은을 쏟아내어 세었다.
  2. 계산이 끝나면 그들은 그 돈을 야훼의 전 공사를 맡은 감독들에게 주었다. 다시 그 돈은 야훼의 전에서 일을 하는 목수와 돌 쌓는 사람들에게 돌아갔고,
  3. 미장이와 석수들에게도 배당되었으며, 야훼의 전을 수리하는 데 쓸 재목과 석재를 사거나 그 밖에 성전을 수리하는 모든 비용에 충당되었다.
  4. 그러나 야훼의 전에 들어온 그 은은 은대야나 가위나 물뿌리개나 나팔 등, 각종 금은 기구들을 만드는 데 쓰지 않고
  5. 다만 일꾼들에게 주어 야훼의 전을 수리하는 비용으로만 썼다.
  1. And they gave the money, being told, into the hands of them that did the work, that had the oversight of the house of the LORD: and they laid it out to the carpenters and builders, that wrought upon the house of the LORD,
  2. And to masons, and hewers of stone, and to buy timber and hewed stone to repair the breaches of the house of the LORD, and for all that was laid out for the house to repair it.
  3. Howbeit there were not made for the house of the LORD bowls of silver, snuffers, basons, trumpets, any vessels of gold, or vessels of silver, of the money that was brought into the house of the LORD:
  4. But they gave that to the workmen, and repaired therewith the house of the LORD.
  5. Moreover they reckoned not with the men, into whose hand they delivered the money to be bestowed on workmen: for they dealt faithfully.
  1. 일꾼들에게 줄 돈을 감독들에게 맡기고는 회계 감사를 하지 않았다. 그만큼 그들이 정직하게 일했던 것이다.
  2. 보상제와 속죄제 대신 바친 돈은 야훼의 전 수입으로 계산하지 않고 사제들의 몫으로 돌렸다.
  3. 그 무렵, 시리아 왕 하자엘이 쳐들어와 갓을 점령하고 나서 예루살렘을 치려고 발길을 돌렸다.
  4. 유다 왕 요아스는 자기보다 앞서 유다를 다스린 여호사밧 왕과 여호람 왕과 아하지야 왕이 성별하여 바친 것들과 자기 자신이 야훼께 성별하여 바친 모든 것에다가 성전 창고와 왕실 창고에 있는 금까지 합하여 모두 시리아 왕 하자엘에게 보냈다. 그것을 받고 하자엘은 예루살렘을 치지 않고 떠나갔다.
  5. 요아스의 나머지 업적과 행적은 유다 왕조실록에 모두 기록되어 있다.
  1. The trespass money and sin money was not brought into the house of the LORD: it was the priests'.
  2. Then Hazael king of Syria went up, and fought against Gath, and took it: and Hazael set his face to go up to Jerusalem.
  3. And Jehoash king of Judah took all the hallowed things that Jehoshaphat, and Jehoram, and Ahaziah, his fathers, kings of Judah, had dedicated, and his own hallowed things, and all the gold that was found in the treasures of the house of the LORD, and in the king's house, and sent it to Hazael king of Syria: and he went away from Jerusalem.
  4. And the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
  5. And his servants arose, and made a conspiracy, and slew Joash in the house of Millo, which goeth down to Silla.
  1. 그의 신하들이 반역 음모를 꾸며 실라로 내려가는 길목에 있는 벳밀로에서 요아스를 죽였다.
  1. For Jozachar the son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad the son of Shomer, his servants, smote him, and he died; and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David: and Amaziah his son reigned in his stead.
