- 닷새 뒤에 대사제 아나니아가 총독에게 바울로를 고소하려고 원로 몇 사람과 데르딜로라는 법관을 데리고 내려왔다.
- 바울로가 불려 나오자 데르딜로는 고발하기 시작하였다. "펠릭스 각하, 우리는 각하의 덕분으로 크게 평안을 누리고 있습니다. 그리고 이 나라는 각하의 선견지명으로 개선되어 가고 있습니다.
- 우리는 언제 어디서나 각하를 환영하며 감사해 마지않습니다.
- 이제 각하께 더 폐가 되지 않도록 간단히 말씀 드리겠으니 너그럽게 들어주시기 바랍니다.
- 우리가 알아본 결과, 이자는 몹쓸 전염병 같은 놈으로서 온 천하에 있는 모든 유다인들을 선동하여 반란을 일으키려는 자이며 나자렛 도당의 괴수입니다.

- And after five days Ananias the high priest descended with the elders, and with a certain orator named Tertullus, who informed the governor against Paul.
- And when he was called forth, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, Seeing that by thee we enjoy great quietness, and that very worthy deeds are done unto this nation by thy providence,
- We accept it always, and in all places, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness.
- Notwithstanding, that I be not further tedious unto thee, I pray thee that thou wouldest hear us of thy clemency a few words.
- For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:

- 그는 심지어 우리 성전까지 더럽히려고 하였습니다. 그래서 그를 붙잡은 것입니다. (우리가 그를 우리 율법대로 재판하려고 했지만
- 파견대장 리시아가 와서 그를 우리 손에서 강제로 빼앗아갔습니다.
- 그리고는 그를 고소하는 사람들에게 각하께 가라고 명령하였습니다.) 그러하오니 각하께서 친히 그를 심문해 보시면 우리가 그를 고소하는 까닭을 다 아시게 될 것입니다."
- 그러자 유다인들도 그의 논고를 지지하며 그의 말이 모두 사실이라고 주장하였다.
- 그 때에 총독이 바울로에게 눈짓을 하여 말을 해보라고 하자 바울로가 이렇게 답변하였다. "저는 각하께서 여러 해 동안 이 나라 전체의 재판권을 행사해 오신 것을 알고 있습니다. 그래서 저는 기쁜 마음으로 제 자신에 대한 사실을 각하께 해명하겠습니다.

- Who also hath gone about to profane the temple: whom we took, and would have judged according to our law.
- But the chief captain Lysias came upon us, and with great violence took him away out of our hands,
- Commanding his accusers to come unto thee: by examining of whom thyself mayest take knowledge of all these things, whereof we accuse him.
- And the Jews also assented, saying that these things were so.
- Then Paul, after that the governor had beckoned unto him to speak, answered, Forasmuch as I know that thou hast been of many years a judge unto this nation, I do the more cheerfully answer for myself:

- 각하께서도 확인해 볼 수 있는 일입니다만 제가 순례하러 예루살렘에 올라온 지는 이제 열이틀밖에 되지 않습니다.
- 그 동안에 성전이나 회당이나 거리에서 어느 누구와도 논쟁을 벌인 일도 없으며 군중을 선동한 일도 없습니다.
- 그러니 이 사람들은 지금 저를 고소하면서도 각하께 그 증거는 댈 수 없을 것입니다.
- 다만 제가 각하 앞에서 시인하는 것은 그들이 이단이라고 하는 그리스도교를 따라 우리 조상의 하느님을 섬기고 율법과 예언서에 기록된 모든 것을 믿는다는 사실입니다.
- 그리고 저를 고소하는 이 사람들과 마찬가지로 저도 하느님을 믿으며 올바른 사람이나 악한 사람이나 다같이 부활하리라는 희망을 가지고 있습니다.

- Because that thou mayest understand, that there are yet but twelve days since I went up to Jerusalem for to worship.
- And they neither found me in the temple disputing with any man, neither raising up the people, neither in the synagogues, nor in the city:
- Neither can they prove the things whereof they now accuse me.
- But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:
- And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.

- 그래서 저도 하느님과 사람들 앞에 언제나 거리낌없는 양심을 간직하려고 노력하고 있습니다.
- 저는 제 동족에게 구제금을 전달하고 하느님께 제물을 바치러 여러 해 만에 고국에 돌아왔습니다.
- 제가 정결예식을 행하고 나서 그 일을 하고 있을 때 그들이 성전 안에서 저를 보기는 하였지만 제가 군중을 선동하거나 소란을 피운 일은 없습니다.
- 그 자리에는 다만 아시아에서 온 유다인 몇 사람이 있었는데 저를 걸어 고소할 일이 있다면 그들이 직접 각하 앞에 와서 고소했어야 할 것입니다.
- 그것도 아니라면 제가 예루살렘 의회에 불려갔을 때 이 사람들이 저에게서 무슨 죄목을 찾아냈는지 말해 보라고 하십시오.

- And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void to offence toward God, and toward men.
- Now after many years I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings.
- Whereupon certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, neither with multitude, nor with tumult.
- Who ought to have been here before thee, and object, if they had ought against me.
- Or else let these same here say, if they have found any evil doing in me, while I stood before the council,

- 다만 저는 그들 앞에 서서 '죽은 자의 부활에 관한 문제로 내가 오늘 여러분에게 재판을 받고 있소.' 하고 한마디 소리쳤을 뿐입니다."
- 펠릭스는 그리스도교에 대하여 자세히 알고 있었기 때문에 파견대장 리시아가 내려온 다음에 바울로의 사건을 심의하겠다고 하면서 재판을 연기하였다.
- 그리고 백인대장에게 바울로를 지키되 어느 정도의 자유를 주고 친지들의 뒷바라지를 막지 말라고 명령하였다.
- 며칠이 지나서 펠릭스는 자기 아내 드루실라와 함께 와서 바울로를 불러내어 그리스도 예수를 믿는 신앙에 관하여 이야기를 들었다. 펠릭스의 아내는 유다 여자였다.
- 바울로가 정의와 절제와 장차 다가올 심판에 관해서 설명하자 펠릭스는 두려운 생각이 들어 "이제 그만하고 가보아라. 기회가 있으면 다시 부르겠다." 하고 말하였다.

- Except it be for this one voice, that I cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question by you this day.
- And when Felix heard these things, having more perfect knowledge of that way, he deferred them, and said, When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will know the uttermost of your matter.
- And he commanded a centurion to keep Paul, and to let him have liberty, and that he should forbid none of his acquaintance to minister or come unto him.
- And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.
- And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.

- 그러면서도 한편으로는 바울로에게서 뇌물을 받아내려는 속셈으로 바울로를 자주 불러내어 이야기를 나누었다.
- 두 해가 지난 뒤에 펠릭스 총독의 후임으로 보르기오 페스도가 부임하였다. 그런데 펠릭스는 유다인들의 환심을 사려고 바울로를 감옥에 그대로 가두어두었다.

- He hoped also that money should have been given him of Paul, that he might loose him: wherefore he sent for him the oftener, and communed with him.
- But after two years Porcius Festus came into Felix' room: and Felix, willing to shew the Jews a pleasure, left Paul bound.
