- 우리가 로마에 들어갔을 때에 바울로는 경비병 한 사람의 감시를 받으면서 따로 지내도 좋다는 허락을 받았다.
- 사흘 뒤에 바울로는 그 곳 유다인 지도자들을 불렀다. 그들이 모였을 때에 바울로는 이렇게 말하였다. "형제 여러분, 나는 우리 겨레에 대해서나 조상들이 전해 준 관습에 대해서 거스르는 일을 한 적은 한 번도 없었습니다. 그런데 나는 예루살렘에서 붙잡혀 로마 사람들의 손에 넘어갔습니다.
- 로마 사람들은 나를 심문했지만 사형에 처할 만한 죄상이 없다는 것을 알고 나를 놓아주려고 했습니다.
- 그러나 유다인들이 반대하는 바람에 나는 하는 수 없이 카이사르에게 상소한 것입니다. 그렇다고 해서 내가 내 동포를 고발하려는 것은 결코 아니었습니다.
- 그래서 나는 여러분을 뵙고 말씀 드리려고 오시라고 한 것입니다. 내가 지금 이 쇠사슬에 묶여 있는 것은 이스라엘 사람들이 희망해 온 그리스도 때문입니다."

- And when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard: but Paul was suffered to dwell by himself with a soldier that kept him.
- And it came to pass, that after three days Paul called the chief of the Jews together: and when they were come together, he said unto them, Men and brethren, though I have committed nothing against the people, or customs of our fathers, yet was I delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.
- Who, when they had examined me, would have let me go, because there was no cause of death in me.
- But when the Jews spake against it, I was constrained to appeal unto Caesar; not that I had ought to accuse my nation of.
- For this cause therefore have I called for you, to see you, and to speak with you: because that for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain.

- 유다인 지도자들은 바울로에게 이렇게 말하였다. "우리는 아직 유다에서 당신에 관한 편지를 받은 일도 없고 또 형제들 가운데서 이 곳에 찾아와 당신의 소식을 전하거나 당신을 헐뜯는 사람도 없었습니다.
- 그렇지만 당신의 종파가 어디서나 사람들의 반대를 받고 있다는 것은 알고 있기 때문에 우리는 당신의 생각을 직접 들어보고 싶습니다."
- 그들은 날을 정해 두었다가 그 날이 되자 여럿이 바울로의 숙소로 찾아왔다. 바울로는 아침부터 저녁까지 그들에게 하느님 나라를 설명하고 증언하였으며 또 모세의 율법과 예언자들의 글을 들어 예수에 관해서 그들을 설득시키려고 노력하였다.
- 바울로의 말을 듣고 믿는 사람들도 있었지만 끝내 믿으려 하지 않는 사람들도 있었다.
- 이렇게 서로 의견을 달리한 채 흩어지려 하자 바울로가 이렇게 한마디 덧붙였다. "성령께서 예언자 이사야를 시켜 당신들의 조상에게 하신 말씀은 지당합니다.

- And they said unto him, We neither received letters out of Judaea concerning thee, neither any of the brethren that came shewed or spake any harm of thee.
- But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, we know that every where it is spoken against.
- And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.
- And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.
- And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers,

- 들어보십시오. '이 백성에게 가서 말하여라. 너희가 듣고 또 들어도 알아듣지 못하고 보고 또 보아도 알아보지 못함은
- 이 백성이 마음의 문을 닫고 귀를 막고 눈을 감은 탓이니, 그렇지 않았더라면 그들이 눈으로 보고 귀로 듣게 되고 마음으로 깨달아 돌아서서 마침내 나한테 온전하게 고침을 받으리라.' 하시지 않았습니까?
- 그러니 하느님의 이 구원의 말씀이 이방인들에게로 돌아가게 되었다는 것을 여러분은 알아야 합니다. 이방인들은 이 구원의 말씀을 들을 것입니다."

- 바울로는 셋집을 얻어 거기에서 만 이 년 동안 지내면서 자기를 찾아오는 사람을 모두 맞아들이고

- Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive:
- For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
- Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.
- And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great reasoning among themselves.
- And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him,

- 아무런 방해도 받지 않고 하느님 나라를 아주 대담하게 선포하며 주 예수 그리스도에 관하여 가르쳤다.

- Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.
