- 이제부터는 이방인 여러분에게 말씀 드립니다. 나는 이방인들을 위한 사도로서 내가 맡은 직책을 영광으로 생각합니다.
- 나는 내 동족 유다인들에게 시기심을 불러일으켜 그들 가운데 일부나마 구해 주고 싶습니다.
- 그들이 버림을 받은 결과로 하느님과 세상 사이에 화해가 이루어졌다면 하느님께서 그들을 다시 받아주실 때에는 어떻게 되겠습니까? 죽었던 사람들에게 생명을 주실 것이 분명합니다.
- 떡 반죽에서 떼낸 첫 부분을 하느님께 드리면 그 반죽덩어리 전체도 거룩합니다. 또 나무 뿌리가 거룩하면 그 가지도 다 거룩합니다.
- 올리브 나무가 한 그루 있는데 그 가지 몇 개가 잘리고 그 자리에 야생 올리브 나무 가지를 접붙였다고 합시다. 그러면 그 접붙인 가지들은 올리브 나무 원 뿌리에서 양분을 같이 받게 됩니다. 말하자면 여러분은 이 야생 올리브 나무 가지들입니다.

- For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:
- If by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are my flesh, and might save some of them.
- For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?
- For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.
- And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;

- 그러니 여러분은 잘려 나간 가지들을 업신여겨서는 안 됩니다. 그럴 생각이 날 때에는 여러분이 뿌리를 지탱하는 것이 아니고 뿌리가 여러분을 지탱한다는 사실을 기억하십시오.
- 여러분은 "저 가지들이 잘려 나간 것은 그 자리에 우리를 접붙이기 위한 것이 아닙니까?" 하고 말할지도 모릅니다.
- 그것은 그렇습니다. 그러나 그 가지들이 잘려 나간 것은 그들이 믿지 않은 탓이고 여러분이 그 자리에 붙어 있는 것은 여러분이 믿었기 때문입니다. 그러니 여러분은 두려워할지언정 자랑할 것은 하나도 없습니다.
- 하느님께서 원 가지들도 아낌없이 잘라내셨으니 여러분들도 아낌없이 잘라버리실 수 있습니다.
- 하느님께서는 자비로우시기도 하고 준엄하시기도 하다는 것을 알아두십시오. 하느님께서는 당신을 거역하는 자들에게는 준엄하시지만 여러분에게는 자비로우십니다. 그러나 그것은 여러분이 하느님의 자비를 저버리지 않을 때에 한한 일이고 그렇지 못할 때에는 여러분도 잘려 나갈 것입니다.

- Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.
- Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in.
- Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:
- For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.
- Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.

- 믿지 않았던 탓으로 잘려 나갔던 가지들이 믿게 되면 하느님께서는 그 가지들도 접붙여 주실 것입니다. 하느님께서는 전에 잘라내셨던 가지들이라도 다시 접붙이실 능력을 가지고 계십니다.
- 원래 야생 올리브 나무 가지였던 여러분이 잘려서 제 나무가 아닌 딴 좋은 올리브 나무에 쉽사리 접붙여졌다면 잘려 나갔던 가지들이 제 올리브 나무에 다시 접붙여지는 것이야 얼마나 더 쉬운 일이겠습니까?
- 형제 여러분, 여러분이 모든 것을 다 알았다고 장담할지 모르지만 아직 깨닫지 못하는 숨은 진리가 하나 있는데 여러분도 그것을 꼭 알아두시기 바랍니다. 그 진리란 이런 것입니다. 일부 이스라엘 사람들이 지금은 완고하지만 모든 이방인들이 하느님께 돌아오는 날에는 그 완고한 마음을 버릴 것이고
- 따라서 온 이스라엘도 구원받게 되리라는 것입니다. 성서에도, "시온에서 해방자가 나와 야곱의 후손으로부터 사악을 제거하리라.
- 이것이 내가 그들의 죄를 없이할 때 그들과 맺으려는 나의 계약이다."라는 말씀이 있습니다.

- And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again.
- For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree?
- For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
- And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:
- For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.

- 복음의 견지에서 보면 이스라엘 사람들은 여러분이 잘 되라고 하느님의 원수가 되었지만 하느님의 선택의 견지에서 보면 그들의 조상 덕택으로 여전히 하느님의 사랑을 받는 백성입니다.
- 하느님께서 한 번 주신 선물이나 선택의 은총은 다시 거두어가시지 않습니다.
- 전에 하느님께 순종하지 않았던 여러분이 이제 이스라엘 사람들의 불순종 때문에 하느님의 자비를 받게 되었습니다.
- 이와 같이 지금은 순종하지 않고 있는 이스라엘 사람들도 여러분이 받은 하느님의 자비를 보고 회개하여 마침내는 자비를 받게 될 날이 올 것입니다.
- 하느님께서는 모든 사람을 불순종에 사로잡힌 자가 되게 하셨습니다. 그러나 결국은 그 모두에게 자비를 베푸셨습니다.

- As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the father's sakes.
- For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.
- For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief:
- Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy.
- For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.

- 오! 하느님의 풍요와 지혜와 지식은 심오합니다. 누가 그분의 판단을 헤아릴 수 있으며 그분이 하시는 일을 이해할 수 있겠습니까?
- "주님의 생각을 잘 안 사람이 누구였습니까? 주님의 의논 상대가 될 만한 사람이 누구였습니까?
- 누가 먼저 무엇을 드렸기에 주님의 답례를 바라겠습니까?"
- 모든 것은 그분에게서 나오고 그분으로 말미암고 그분을 위하여 있습니다. 영원토록 영광을 그분께 드립니다. 아멘.

- O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!
- For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?
- Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?
- For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.
