- 이제 여러분이 적어보낸 여러 가지 질문에 대답해 드리겠습니다. 남자는 여자와 관계를 맺지 않는 것이 좋습니다.
- 그러나 음행이 성행하고 있으니 남자는 각각 자기 아내를 가지고 여자는 각각 자기 남편을 가지도록 하십시오.
- 남편은 아내에게 남편으로서 할 일을 다하고 아내도 그와 같이 남편에게 아내로서 할 일을 다하십시오.
- 아내는 자기 몸을 자기 마음대로 할 수 없고 오직 남편에게 맡겨야 하며 남편 또한 자기 몸을 자기 마음대로 할 수 없고 오직 아내에게 맡겨야 합니다.
- 서로 상대방의 요구를 거절하지 마십시오. 다만 기도에 전념하기 위해서 서로 합의하여 얼마 동안 떨어져 있는 것은 무방합니다. 그러나 자제하는 힘이 없어서 사탄의 유혹에 빠질지도 모르니 그 기간이 끝나면 다시 정상적인 관계로 돌아가야 합니다.

- Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman.
- Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.
- Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband.
- The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife.
- Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.

- 이 말은 명령이 아니라 충고입니다.
- 나는 모든 사람이 다 나처럼 살기를 바랍니다. 그러나 사람마다 하느님께로부터 받는 은총의 선물이 각각 다르므로 이 사람은 이렇게 살고 저 사람은 저렇게 삽니다.
- 결혼하지 않은 사람들과 과부들에게는 나처럼 그대로 독신으로 지내는 것이 좋겠다고 말하고 싶습니다.
- 그러나 자제할 수 없거든 결혼하십시오. 욕정에 불타는 것보다는 결혼하는 편이 낫습니다.
- 결혼한 사람들에게 말합니다. 이것은 내 말이 아니라 주님의 명령인데 아내는 남편과 헤어져서는 안 됩니다.

- But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment.
- For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.
- I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I.
- But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.
- And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband:

- 만일 헤어졌거든 재혼하지 말고 혼자 지내든지 그렇지 않으면 자기 남편과 다시 화해해야 합니다. 또 남편은 자기 아내를 버리면 안 됩니다.
- 그 밖의 사람들에게 말합니다. 이것은 주님의 말씀은 아니고 내가 하는 말입니다. 어떤 교우에게 교인이 아닌 아내가 있는데 그 아내가 계속해서 함께 살기를 원하면 그 아내를 버려서는 안 됩니다.
- 또 어떤 여자 교우에게 교인이 아닌 남편이 있는데 그가 계속해서 함께 살기를 원하면 역시 그 남편을 버려서는 안 됩니다.
- 믿지 않는 남편은 믿는 아내로 말미암아 거룩하게 되고 또 믿지 않는 아내도 믿는 남편으로 말미암아 거룩하게 되었기 때문입니다. 그렇지 않았다면 여러분의 자녀도 깨끗하지 못했을 터인데, 실상은 다 거룩하지 않습니까?
- 만일 믿지 않는 쪽에서 헤어지려고 한다면 헤어져도 좋습니다. 이런 경우에 남녀 교우들은 아무런 속박도 받지 않습니다. 하느님께서는 부르심을 받은 여러분이 평화스럽게 살기를 원하십니다.

- But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.
- But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away.
- And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him.
- For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy.
- But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace.

- 여자 교우가 자기 남편을 구원할 수 있을지도 모를 일이며 또 남자 교우가 자기 아내를 구원할 수 있을지도 모를 일입니다.
- 각 사람은 주님께서 나누어주신 은총의 선물을 따라서 그리고 하느님께 부르심을 받았을 때의 처지대로 살아가십시오. 이것이 내가 모든 교회를 위하여 세운 원칙입니다.
- 부르심을 받았을 때 이미 할례를 받은 사람이면 그 흔적을 굳이 없애려 하지 마십시오. 그리고 부르심을 받았을 때 아직 할례를 받지 않은 사람이면 굳이 할례를 받으려고 하지 마십시오.
- 할례를 받았거나 안 받았거나 그것은 문제가 되지 않습니다. 오직 하느님의 계명을 지키는 것만이 중요합니다.
- 그러므로 각 사람은 부르심을 받았을 때의 상태를 그대로 유지하십시오.

- For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy wife?
- But as God hath distributed to every man, as the Lord hath called every one, so let him walk. And so ordain I in all churches.
- Is any man called being circumcised? let him not become uncircumcised. Is any called in uncircumcision? let him not be circumcised.
- Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God.
- Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called.

- 부르심을 받았을 때에 노예였다 하더라도 조금도 마음 쓸 것 없습니다. 그러나 자유로운 몸이 될 기회가 생기면 그 기회를 이용하십시오.
- 노예라도 부르심을 받고 주님을 믿는 사람은 주님의 자유인이 되고 자유인이라도 부르심을 받은 사람은 그리스도의 노예가 되는 것입니다.
- 하느님께서는 값을 치르시고 여러분을 사셨습니다. 그러니 여러분은 인간의 노예가 되지 마십시오.
- 형제 여러분, 여러분은 각각 부르심을 받았을 때의 상태를 그대로 유지하면서 하느님과 함께 살아가십시오.

- Art thou called being a servant? care not for it: but if thou mayest be made free, use it rather.
- For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord's freeman: likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ's servant.
- Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men.
- Brethren, let every man, wherein he is called, therein abide with God.
