- 형제 여러분, 우리는 하느님께서 마케도니아 여러 교회에 얼마나 큰 은총을 내려주셨는지를 여러분에게 알려드립니다.
- 그들은 환난을 만나 큰 시련을 당하면서도 오히려 기쁨에 넘쳤고 극심한 가난에 쪼들리면서도 많은 희사를 했습니다.
- 나는 확실히 말할 수 있습니다. 그들은 제 푼수대로만 희사한 것이 아니라 그 이상의 희사까지도 했습니다.
- 그리고 부디 자기들에게도 성도들을 구제하는 일에 참여하는 특전을 달라고 자진해서 간청해 왔습니다.
- 우리가 기대도 하지 못했던 일이 일어났습니다. 그들은 먼저 주님께 그들 자신을 바치고 하느님의 뜻을 따라서 우리에게도 헌신하였습니다.

- Moreover, brethren, we do you to wit of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia;
- How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality.
- For to their power, I bear record, yea, and beyond their power they were willing of themselves;
- Praying us with much intreaty that we would receive the gift, and take upon us the fellowship of the ministering to the saints.
- And this they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God.

- 그래서 우리는 디도더러 여러분에게 가서 이미 시작한 그 은혜로운 모금 사업을 마저 끝내라고 권했습니다.
- 여러분은 모든 일에 뛰어났습니다. 믿음이나, 언변이나, 지식이나, 열성이나, 우리에 대한 사랑에서 여러분을 따를 사람이 없습니다. 그러니 이 은혜로운 모금 사업에 있어서도 뛰어나기를 바랍니다.
- 이것은 내가 명령으로 하는 말이 아닙니다. 다만 이 일에 열성을 보이는 다른 사람들의 이야기를 들려주고 여러분의 사랑은 얼마나 진실한가를 알아보려는 것뿐입니다.
- 여러분은 우리 주 예수 그리스도께서 얼마나 은혜로우신지를 잘 알고 있습니다. 그분은 부요하셨지만 여러분을 위하여 가난하게 되셨습니다. 그분이 가난해지심으로써 여러분은 오히려 부요하게 되었습니다.
- 이 구제 사업에 대해서 내 의견은 이렇습니다. 이 일은 일 년 전에 여러분이 먼저 시작했을 뿐만 아니라 또 자원해서 한 일이니 여러분이 완성하는 것이 좋겠습니다.

- Insomuch that we desired Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also finish in you the same grace also.
- Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also.
- I speak not by commandment, but by occasion of the forwardness of others, and to prove the sincerity of your love.
- For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.
- And herein I give my advice: for this is expedient for you, who have begun before, not only to do, but also to be forward a year ago.

- 이제 그 일을 마무리하도록 하십시오. 여러분이 처음에 품었던 의욕을 실천에 옮겨 자기 힘이 자라는 대로 그 일을 완성하라는 말입니다.
- 마음이 내켜서 하는 일이라면 가진 것에서 얼마를 바치든지 하느님께서는 기꺼이 받으실 것입니다. 없는 것을 억지로 내라는 말은 아닙니다.
- 내가 지금 다른 사람들은 평안하게 해주면서 여러분에게만 괴로운 부담을 주려는 것은 아닙니다. 다만 공평하게 하려는 것뿐입니다.
- 지금 여러분이 넉넉하게 살면서 궁핍한 사람들을 도와준다면 그들이 넉넉하게 살게 될 때에는 또한 여러분의 궁핍을 덜어줄 것입니다. 그러면 결국 공평하게 되지 않겠습니까?
- 이것은 성서에, "많이 거둔 사람도 남지 않았고 적게 거둔 사람도 모자라지 않았다."고 기록된 대로입니다.

- Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which ye have.
- For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.
- For I mean not that other men be eased, and ye burdened:
- But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality:
- As it is written, He that had gathered much had nothing over; and he that had gathered little had no lack.
