- "이제 들어라, 나의 종 야곱아, 내가 뽑아 세운 이스라엘아."
- 너를 만드신 야훼, 너를 모태에 생기게 하시고 너를 도우시는 야훼께서 말씀하신다. "두려워하지 마라, 나의 종 야곱아, 내가 뽑아 세운 여수룬아.
- 나는 목마른 땅에 물을 부어주고 메마른 곳에 시냇물이 흐르게 하리라. 나는 너의 후손 위에 내 영을 부어주고 너의 새싹들에게 나의 복을 내리리라.
- 그들은 물 가운데 난 풀처럼 자라리라. 시냇가에 선 버들처럼 크리라.
- 자기가 야훼의 것임을 자랑하는 사람이 있는가 하면 야곱의 후손이라 불리는 것을 좋아하는 사람도 있으리라. 손에 '야훼의 것'이라고 문신을 새기는 사람이 있는가 하면 이스라엘의 후손이라 불리는 것을 기뻐하는 사람도 있으리라."

- Yet now hear, O Jacob my servant; and Israel, whom I have chosen:
- Thus saith the LORD that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, which will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen.
- For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring:
- And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses.
- One shall say, I am the LORD's; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto the LORD, and surname himself by the name of Israel.

- 이스라엘의 임금, 그의 구세주, 만군의 야훼께서 말씀하신다. "내가 시작이요, 내가 마감이다. 나밖에 다른 신이 없다.
- 누가 나와 같으냐? 나서서 말해 보아라. 누가 처음에 장래의 일을 미리 들려주었느냐? 앞으로 될 일을 우리에게 말해 보아라.
- 겁내지 마라, 두려워하지 마라. 내가 오래 전부터 미리 들려주고 알려주지 않았느냐? 너희가 나의 증인이다. 나밖에 다른 신이 또 있느냐? 과연 다른 바위는 없다. 나는 그런 것 모른다."
- 우상을 빚어 만드는 자들은 하나같이 바람잡이, 아무 덕을 끼칠 수 없는 것들을 소중히 여기는 바보들이다. 그렇게 눈이 멀어 멋도 모르고 우상을 섬기다가 결국 창피나 당하리라.
- 수입을 바라지 않고 신상을 빚어 내거나 우상을 부어 만들 자가 있겠느냐?

- Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.
- And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and shall come, let them shew unto them.
- Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.
- They that make a graven image are all of them vanity; and their delectable things shall not profit; and they are their own witnesses; they see not, nor know; that they may be ashamed.
- Who hath formed a god, or molten a graven image that is profitable for nothing?

- 우상과 짝하는 자들은 무안이나 당하리라. 우상을 만드는 것은 결국 인간, 하나도 빠지지 말고 출두하여라. 모두들 어이없이 창피를 당하리라.
- 숯불에 달군 쇠를 망치로 두드려 모양을 만드는 대장장이를 보아라. 팔을 걷어붙이고 만드느라 시장하여 허기지고 물도 마시지 못하여 기진맥진했구나.
- 목수는 줄을 늘이고 석필로 금을 그어 모양을 그린다. 끌질하고 걸음쇠로 선을 그어 가며 사람의 초상을 뜬다. 이렇게 잘난 사람의 얼굴 모습을 본떠 우상을 만들어 그것을 신전에 모신다.
- 송백을 찍어낸다. 삼목이나 상수리나무를 베어낸다. 숲 속에서 싱싱하게 자란 나무들이다. 심어둔 송백이 비를 맞고 큰 것들이다.
- 땔감밖에 되지 않는 것들, 베어다가 몸이나 녹이고 빵이나 굽는 데 쓸 것들, 그런 나무로 신이랍시고 만들어 예배를 드리는구나. 신상이랍시고 만들어놓고 그 앞에 엎드려 큰절을 하는구나.

- Behold, all his fellows shall be ashamed: and the workmen, they are of men: let them all be gathered together, let them stand up; yet they shall fear, and they shall be ashamed together.
- The smith with the tongs both worketh in the coals, and fashioneth it with hammers, and worketh it with the strength of his arms: yea, he is hungry, and his strength faileth: he drinketh no water, and is faint.
- The carpenter stretcheth out his rule; he marketh it out with a line; he fitteth it with planes, and he marketh it out with the compass, and maketh it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man; that it may remain in the house.
- He heweth him down cedars, and taketh the cypress and the oak, which he strengtheneth for himself among the trees of the forest: he planteth an ash, and the rain doth nourish it.
- Then shall it be for a man to burn: for he will take thereof, and warm himself; yea, he kindleth it, and baketh bread; yea, he maketh a god, and worshippeth it; he maketh it a graven image, and falleth down thereto.

- 반 토막으로는 불을 피우고 그 불에 고기를 구워 배불리 먹으면서 흥얼거린다. "아, 뜨뜻하게 불까지 쬐니 좋기도 하구나!" 이렇게 불을 쬐면서
- 남은 토막을 가지고 신이랍시고 만들지들 않느냐? 신상이랍시고 만들어놓고 그 앞에 엎드려 큰절을 하며 예배하고, "당신이 나의 신입니다. 나를 구해 주십시오." 하고 기도까지 하는구나.
- 이렇게 모두들 지각이 없고 철이 없는 것들, 눈은 닫혀 아무것도 보지 못하고 마음은 어두워 아무것도 깨닫지 못하는 것들.
- "반 토막으로는 불을 피우고 그 이글이글 타는 장작불에 빵을 굽고 고기를 구워 먹자. 남은 토막으로는 신상을 만들어놓고 그 나무토막 앞에 엎드리자." 하고 말하는 생각도 없고 지각도 없고 철도 없는 것들.
- 재티나 먹고 사는 것들. 생각이 비뚤어져 터무니없는 짓이나 하는 것들. "내 오른손에 붙잡고 있는 것이 허수아비나 아닐까?" 하고 반성하기는커녕 그 터무니없는 생각에서 도무지 헤어나지를 못하는구나.

- He burneth part thereof in the fire; with part thereof he eateth flesh; he roasteth roast, and is satisfied: yea, he warmeth himself, and saith, Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire:
- And the residue thereof he maketh a god, even his graven image: he falleth down unto it, and worshippeth it, and prayeth unto it, and saith, Deliver me; for thou art my god.
- They have not known nor understood: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand.
- And none considereth in his heart, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh, and eaten it: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree?
- He feedeth on ashes: a deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?

- "야곱아, 이런 일들을 마음에 새겨두어라. 이스라엘아, 너는 나의 종임을 잊지 마라. 너는 내가 빚어 만든 나의 종이다. 이스라엘아, 나는 결코 너를 잊지 아니하리라.
- 나는 너의 악행을 먹구름처럼 흩어버렸고 너의 죄를 뜬구름처럼 날려보냈다. 나에게 돌아오너라. 내가 너를 구해 내었다."
- 하늘아, 야훼께서 하신 일을 기뻐 노래하여라. 땅 속 깊은 곳아, 큰소리로 외쳐라. 모든 산아 기쁨에 넘쳐 환하게 빛나거라. 모든 숲과 그 속의 나무야, 환하게 빛나거라. 야훼께서 야곱을 구해 내시어 당신의 영광을 이스라엘에서 빛내셨다.
- 너를 모태에 생기게 하신 하느님, 너를 구해 내신 야훼께서 말씀하신다. "나 야훼가 만물을 창조하였다. 나는 혼자서 하늘을 펼치고 땅을 밟아 늘였다. 그 때 누가 나를 도왔느냐?
- 나는 거짓 예언자들의 징조를 빗나가게 하며 점쟁이들을 바보로 만든다. 지혜 있다는 자들의 생각을 뒤엎어 아는 체하면서 어리석은 짓만 하게 한다.

- Remember these, O Jacob and Israel; for thou art my servant: I have formed thee; thou art my servant: O Israel, thou shalt not be forgotten of me.
- I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee.
- Sing, O ye heavens; for the LORD hath done it: shout, ye lower parts of the earth: break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and glorified himself in Israel.
- Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;
- That frustrateth the tokens of the liars, and maketh diviners mad; that turneth wise men backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish;

- 나는 내 종들의 말을 세워주고 내 사명을 띤 자의 계획을 이루어준다. 나는 명령한다. '예루살렘에 환도하여라. 유다의 도시들을 재건하여라.' 그 허물어진 곳을 내가 다시 세우리라.
- 나는 명령한다. '바다야, 말라버려라.' 바다의 물줄기를 내가 말리리라.
- 나는 고레스에게 명령한다. '너는 내 양을 쳐라.' 그는 내 뜻을 받들어 이루리라. '너는 예루살렘을 재건하여라. 성전의 기초를 놓아라.'"

- That confirmeth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers; that saith to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be inhabited; and to the cities of Judah, Ye shall be built, and I will raise up the decayed places thereof:
- That saith to the deep, Be dry, and I will dry up thy rivers:
- That saith of Cyrus, He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure: even saying to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be built; and to the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid.
