- 하기야 세속적인 면에서도 나는 내세울 만한 것이 있습니다. 만일 어떤 사람이 세속적인 것을 가지고 자랑하려 든다면 나에게는 자랑할 만한 것이 더 많습니다.
- 나는 이스라엘 백성 가운데서도 베냐민 지파에서 태어났으며 난 지 여드레 만에 할례를 받았고 히브리 사람 중의 히브리 사람입니다. 나는 율법으로 말하면 바리사이파 사람이며
- 열성으로 말하면 교회를 박해하던 사람입니다. 율법을 지킴으로써 올바른 사람으로 인정을 받는다면 나는 조금도 흠이 없는 사람입니다.
- 그러나 나에게 유익했던 이런 것들을 나는 그리스도를 위해서 장해물로 여겼습니다.
- 그뿐만 아니라 나에게는 모든 것이 다 장해물로 생각됩니다. 나에게는 내 주 그리스도 예수를 아는 지식이 무엇보다도 존귀합니다. 나는 그리스도를 위해서 모든 것을 잃었고 그것들을 모두 쓰레기로 여기고 있습니다. 그것은 내가 그리스도를 얻고

- Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more:
- Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;
- Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.
- But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.
- Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,

- 그리스도와 하나가 되려는 것입니다. 내가 율법을 지킴으로써 하느님과의 올바른 관계를 얻는 것이 아니라 내가 그리스도를 믿을 때 내 믿음을 보시고 하느님께서 나를 당신과의 올바른 관계에 놓아주시는 것입니다.
- 내가 바라는 것은 그리스도를 알고 그리스도의 부활의 능력을 깨닫고 그리스도와 고난을 같이 나누고 그리스도와 같이 죽는 것입니다.
- 그러다가 마침내 죽은 자들 가운데서 다시 살아나기를 바랍니다.
- 나는 이 희망을 이미 이루었다는 것도 아니고 또 이미 완전한 사람이 되었다는 것도 아닙니다. 다만 나는 그것을 붙들려고 달음질칠 뿐입니다. 그리스도 예수께서 나를 붙드신 목적이 바로 이것입니다.
- 형제 여러분, 나는 그것을 이미 붙들었다고 생각하지 않습니다. 다만 나는 내 뒤에 있는 것을 잊고 앞에 있는 것만 바라보면서

- And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
- That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;
- If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.
- Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.
- Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

- 목표를 향하여 달려갈 뿐입니다. 하느님께서는 그리스도 예수를 통하여 나를 부르셔서 높은 곳에 살게 하십니다. 그것이 나의 목표이며 내가 바라는 상입니다.
- 그러므로 믿음이 성숙한 사람은 모두 이와 같은 마음가짐으로 살아가야 합니다. 만일 여러분이 어떤 문제에 관해서 다른 생각을 품었더라도 하느님께서는 그것까지도 분명히 가르쳐주실 것입니다.
- 어쨌든 우리가 이미 이룬 것을 바탕으로 해서 다 같이 앞으로 나아갑시다.
- 형제 여러분, 나를 본받으십시오. 그리고 여러분과 같이 우리를 모범으로 삼고 따르는 사람들을 눈여겨보십시오.
- 내가 벌써 여러 번 여러분에게 일러준 것을 지금 또 눈물을 흘리며 말하는 바이지만 많은 사람들이 그리스도의 십자가의 원수가 되어 살고 있습니다.

- I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
- Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.
- Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.
- Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.

- 그들의 최후는 멸망뿐입니다. 그들은 자기네 뱃속을 하느님으로 삼고 자기네 수치를 오히려 자랑으로 생각하며 세상 일에만 마음을 쓰는 자들입니다.
- 그러나 우리는 하늘의 시민입니다. 우리는 거기에서 오실 구세주 되시는 주 예수 그리스도를 고대하고 있습니다.
- 그리스도께서는 만물을 당신께 복종시킬 수 있는 능력을 가지고 오셔서 우리의 비천한 몸을 당신의 영광스러운 몸과 같은 형상으로 변화시켜 주실 것입니다.

- Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)
- For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:
- Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.
