예레미야

  예레미야는 유다의 요시야 왕이 통치할 당시부터 멸망 이후까지 활동한 선지자이다. 유다의 멸망이 임박한 상황에서 예레미야는 하나님의 심판을 예언했지만, 왕과 백성들은 이를 무시하였다. 결국 주전 586년 바벨론의 제3차 유다 침공으로 왕과 백성들은 바벨론의 포로로 잡혀 가고 예루살렘과 성전은 완전히 파괴되고 말았다.

  예레미야는 유다 백성들에게 유다의 범죄는 하나님과의 언약을 파기하는 행위이므로 하나님께로 돌이키라고 강력하게 경고하지만, 패역한 유다는 끝내 회개하지 않음으로 인해 멸망해서 바벨론에 포로로 잡혀 간다. 그러나 예레미야는 이러한 절망적 상황에서도 오직 야웨 하나님만을 의지할 것과 메시아를 통한 이스라엘의 회복에 대한 하나님의 약속의 말씀을 선포함으로써 백성들에게 희망을 준다.

 

 

예레미야 1:1-2:37

 하나님께서는 예레미야를 선지자로 부르셔서 그를 통해 주신 예언을 친히 이루실 것을 약속하셨다. 또한 살구나무 가지와 기울어진 가마의 환상을 통해 유다에 환난이 임박했음을 알리시면서, 유다 백성들이 범죄하고도 깨달음이 없는 것은 그들이 하나님과의 언약을 저버렸기 때문이라고 책망하셨다.
  
  예레미야의 소명(1:1-1:19)    
 
  1. 예레미야 일대기. 그는 베냐민 지방 아나돗에 사는 사제 가운데 한 사람이었는데, 그의 아버지는 힐키야라고 하였다.
  2. 야훼의 말씀이 예레미야에게 내리기 시작한 것은 아몬의 아들 요시야가 유다 왕이 된 지 십삼 년 되던 때의 일이었다.
  3. 야훼의 말씀은 그 후로도 요시야의 아들 여호야킴이 유다 왕으로 있는 동안, 또 요시야의 다른 아들 시드키야가 유다 왕이 된 지 십일 년 되던 해의 오월, 그의 통치가 끝나고 예루살렘 시민이 포로로 끌려갈 때까지 계속되었다.
  4. 내가 받은 야훼의 말씀은 이러하였다.
  5. "내가 너를 점지해 주기 전에 나는 너를 뽑아 세웠다. 네가 세상에 떨어지기 전에 나는 너를 만방에 내 말을 전할 나의 예언자로 삼았다."
  1. The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests that were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin:
  2. To whom the word of the LORD came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.
  3. It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, unto the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son of Josiah king of Judah, unto the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month.
  4. Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
  5. Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
  1. "아! 야훼 나의 주님, 보십시오. 저는 아이라서 말을 잘 못합니다." 하고 내가 아뢰었더니,
  2. 야훼께서는 나에게 이렇게 이르셨다. "아이라는 소리를 하지 마라. 내가 너를 누구에게 보내든지 너는 가야 하고, 무슨 말을 시키든지 하여야 한다.
  3. 사람을 두려워하지 마라. 내가 늘 옆에 있어 위험할 때면 건져주리라. 이는 내 말이라, 어김이 없다."
  4. 그러시고 야훼께서는 손을 내밀어 나의 입에 대시며 이르셨다 "나는 이렇게 나의 말을 너의 입에 담아준다.
  5. 보아라! 나는 오늘 세계 만방을 너의 손에 맡긴다. 뽑기도 하고 무너뜨리기도 하고 멸하기도 하고 헐어버리기도 하고, 세우기도 하고 심기도 하여라."
  1. Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.
  2. But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.
  3. Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD.
  4. Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.
  5. See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.
  1. 야훼께서 나에게 말씀을 내리셨다. "예레미야야, 무엇이 보이느냐?" "감복숭아 가지가 보입니다." 하고 내가 대답하였더니,
  2. 야훼께서 이르셨다. "바로 보았다. 나도 내 말이 이루어지는가 이루어지지 않는가를 깨어 지켜보리라."
  3. 야훼께서는 두 번째로 이렇게 말씀을 내리셨다. "이번에는 무엇이 보이느냐?" "부글부글 끓는 솥물이 북쪽에서 쏟아져 내리려 하고 있습니다." 하고 내가 대답하였더니,
  4. 야훼께서 이르셨다. "이 나라에 사는 모든 사람에게 북녘에서 재앙이 쏟아져 내리리라.
  5. 이제 나는 북녘의 모든 나라들을 불러오리라. 이는 내 말이니, 잘 들어라. 그 왕들은 몰려와서 예루살렘 성과 유다의 모든 성들을 둘러싸고 예루살렘 성문 어귀에서 항복을 받으리라.
  1. Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said, I see a rod of an almond tree.
  2. Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.
  3. And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a seething pot; and the face thereof is toward the north.
  4. Then the LORD said unto me, Out of the north an evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.
  5. For, lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith the LORD; and they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the entering of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all the walls thereof round about, and against all the cities of Judah.
  1. 나는 나의 백성이 저지른 모든 죄를 이렇게 심판하리라. 나를 저버리고 다른 신들에게 향을 피워 올리며, 저희 손으로 만든 것들을 섬긴 죄를 이렇게 심판하리라.
  2. 너는 허리를 동이고, 일어나 나의 백성에게 일러주어라. 내가 시키는 말을 모두 전하여라. 이 백성을 두려워하지 마라. 그러다가 그들 앞에서 오히려 두려워하게 되리라.
  3. 유다의 임금이나 고관들, 사제들이나 지방 유지들과 함께 온 나라가 달려들어도 내가 오늘 너를 단단히 방비된 성처럼, 쇠기둥, 놋담처럼 세우리니,
  4. 아무리 덤벼도 너를 당하지 못하리라. 내가 네 옆에 있어 도와주리라. 이는 내 말이라, 어김이 없다."
  1. And I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, who have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands.
  2. Thou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee: be not dismayed at their faces, lest I confound thee before them.
  3. For, behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron pillar, and brasen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land.
  4. And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the LORD, to deliver thee.
 
  유다의 책망(2:1-2:37)    
 
  1. 야훼께서 나에게 이런 말씀을 내리셨다.
  2. "예루살렘에 가서 거기에 사는 사람들에게 똑똑히 일러주어라. '나 야훼가 하는 말이다. 씨 뿌리지 못하는 땅, 사막에서 나를 따르던 시절, 젊은 날의 네 순정, 약혼 시절의 네 사랑을 잊을 수 없구나.
  3. 이스라엘은 나에게 깨끗이 몸바쳤었지. 소출 가운데서도 맏물이라, 집어먹고는 아무도 죄를 면치 못하여 재앙을 당하고야 말았다. 이는 내 말이니, 잘 들어라.'"
  4. 야곱 가문, 이스라엘 가문 온 갈래는 야훼의 말씀을 들어라.
  5. "나 야훼가 말한다. 나에게 무슨 잘못이 있다고 너희 조상은 나를 멀리하였더냐? 너희 조상은 허수아비를 따르다가 허수아비가 되지 않았더냐?
  1. Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
  2. Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; I remember thee, the kindness of thy youth, the love of thine espousals, when thou wentest after me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.
  3. Israel was holiness unto the LORD, and the firstfruits of his increase: all that devour him shall offend; evil shall come upon them, saith the LORD.
  4. Hear ye the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel:
  5. Thus saith the LORD, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?
  1. '이집트에서 우리를 데려내오신 야훼, 메마른 모래땅, 가물어 풀도 나지 않는 땅, 사람의 그림자도 어른거리지 않는 땅, 그 사막에서 이끌어주시던 야훼께서 어디 가셨을까?' 하며 나를 찾는 자도 없었다.
  2. 나는 너희를 이 기름진 땅에 이끌어들여 그 좋은 과일을 먹게 했는데 너희는 들어와서 나의 땅을 부정하게 만들었다. 이 땅은 나의 것인데 너희가 더럽게 만들었다.
  3. 사제라는 것들은 '야훼께서 어디에 계시냐?'고 찾지도 않았다. 법 전문가라는 것들은 나의 뜻은 알려고도 하지 않았다. 백성의 목자라는 것들은 나를 거역하기만 하였다. 예언자라는 것들은 바알의 말이나 전하며 아무 데에도 쓸모없는 것들만 따라다녔다.
  4. 그러므로 나는 다시 너희와 따지리라. 이는 내 말이니, 어김이 없다. 너희 후손과도 따질 것이다.
  5. 지중해의 섬나라들에 건너가 보아라. 케달에 사람을 보내어 알아보아라. 이런 일이 과연 있을 수 있는가를.
  1. Neither said they, Where is the LORD that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt?
  2. And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat the fruit thereof and the goodness thereof; but when ye entered, ye defiled my land, and made mine heritage an abomination.
  3. The priests said not, Where is the LORD? and they that handle the law knew me not: the pastors also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit.
  4. Wherefore I will yet plead with you, saith the LORD, and with your children's children will I plead.
  5. For pass over the isles of Chittim, and see; and send unto Kedar, and consider diligently, and see if there be such a thing.
  1. 어떤 민족이 섬겨오던 신을 바꾸어 신도 아닌 것을 섬기는 일이 있더냐? 그런데 내 백성은 영광스럽게 모실 나를 버리고 아무 데도 쓸모없는 것을 잡았다.
  2. 하늘도 놀랄 일이다. 기가 막혀 몸서리칠 일이다. 이는 내 말이니, 잘 들어라.
  3. 나의 백성은 두 가지 잘못을 저질렀다. 생수가 솟는 샘인 나를 버리고 갈라져 새기만하여 물이 괴지 않는 웅덩이를 팠다.
  4. 이스라엘이 종이었더냐? 씨종이었더냐? 어찌하여 남에게 털리는 신세가 되었느냐?
  5. 사자들이 으르렁거리는 바람에 살던 땅은 폐허가 되고 성읍들은 허물어져 무인지경이 되었다.
  1. Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit.
  2. Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith the LORD.
  3. For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.
  4. Is Israel a servant? is he a homeborn slave? why is he spoiled?
  5. The young lions roared upon him, and yelled, and they made his land waste: his cities are burned without inhabitant.
  1. 게다가 멤피스와 다흐반헤스 사람들마저 와서 네 머리통을 부수었다.
  2. 왜 이 꼴이 되었는지 알고 있느냐? 너희를 이끌어주던 야훼 너희 하느님을 저버리고서야 어찌 이 꼴이 되지 않겠느냐?
  3. 그런데 이제 너희가 나일 강 물을 마시러 이집트로 가다니 웬 말이며, 유프라테스 강 물을 마시러 아시리아로 가다니 웬 말이냐?
  4. 너희가 너무나 못되게 굴었기에 이 벌을 내리는 것이다. 나를 배신하다가 너희는 이 죄를 받는 것이다. 야훼 너희 하느님을 저버리고 공경하지 않다가 이 처참한 재난을 겪는 것인 줄 똑똑히 알아라. 만군의 야훼가 하는 말이다.
  5. 너는 일찍부터 고삐를 끊고 날뛰는 굴레 벗은 말이었다. 나를 섬길 생각이 없어 높은 언덕 무성한 나무 밑 어디에서나 뒹굴며 놀아났다.
  1. Also the children of Noph and Tahapanes have broken the crown of thy head.
  2. Hast thou not procured this unto thyself, in that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, when he led thee by the way?
  3. And now what hast thou to do in the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Sihor? or what hast thou to do in the way of Assyria, to drink the waters of the river?
  4. Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.
  5. For of old time I have broken thy yoke, and burst thy bands; and thou saidst, I will not transgress; when upon every high hill and under every green tree thou wanderest, playing the harlot.
  1. 특종 포도나무를 진종으로 골라 심었는데 너는 품질이 나쁜 잡종으로 변하였구나.
  2. 비누로 몸을 씻어보아라. 잿물로 몸을 닦아보아라. 너의 더러운 죄가 내 앞에서 사라질 것 같으냐? 이는 내 말이니, 잘 들어라.
  3. 너는 부정을 타지 않았다고 시치미를 뗄 셈이냐? 바알을 받들어 섬기지 않았다고 능청을 부릴 셈이냐? 골짜기에서 한 너의 소행을 보아라. 무슨 짓을 하였는지 모르겠느냐? 암낙타가 몸이 달아 이리저리 날뛰며,
  4. 암내가 나서 헐떡이며 광야로 내닫는데 그 달뜬 몸을 무엇으로 가라앉히랴. 때가 된 암컷은 어디에서나 만나는 것, 수컷은 발정한 암컷을 애써 찾을 것도 없다.
  5. 그러다가는 신발이 다 해질라, 목이 다 탈라, 일러주었건만 한다는 소리가, '다 버린 몸 말리지 마세요. 나는 외간 남자들이 좋아요. 외간 남자들을 따라가겠어요.'
  1. Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me?
  2. For though thou wash thee with nitre, and take thee much soap, yet thine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord GOD.
  3. How canst thou say, I am not polluted, I have not gone after Baalim? see thy way in the valley, know what thou hast done: thou art a swift dromedary traversing her ways;
  4. A wild ass used to the wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind at her pleasure; in her occasion who can turn her away? all they that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.
  5. Withhold thy foot from being unshod, and thy throat from thirst: but thou saidst, There is no hope: no; for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go.
  1. 도둑이 들키면 창피를 당하듯이, 이스라엘 문중아, 너희도 창피를 당하리라. 왕이나 고관들이나, 사제들이나 예언자들이나 모두들 창피를 당하리라.
  2. 너희는 나무를 보고 아비라 돌을 보고 어미라 하며 나를 외면하고 등을 돌렸다가도, 재앙만 만나면 나더러 살려달라고 한다.
  3. 네가 만든 신들은 모두 어디 갔느냐? 유다야, 네가 섬기는 신이 성읍들만큼이나 많은데, 네가 재앙을 만나면, 그 신들이 너를 살려주려고 일어나야 하지 않느냐?
  4. 하나같이 나를 거역만 하다가 이제 와서 나에게 무슨 따질 것이 있느냐? 나의 말이 들리느냐?
  5. 너희 자식들을 매질하여 보았지만 헛된 일이었다. 그들은 나의 징계를 받으려 하지 않았으며 도리어 예언자들을 칼로 쳐죽였다. 사자처럼 찢어발겼다.
  1. As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets.
  2. Saying to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth: for they have turned their back unto me, and not their face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us.
  3. But where are thy gods that thou hast made thee? let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy trouble: for according to the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah.
  4. Wherefore will ye plead with me? ye all have transgressed against me, saith the LORD.
  5. In vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction: your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.
  1. 너희 세대나 나의 말을 명심하여라. 내가 너희 이스라엘이 살 수 없는 사막이라도 되었단 말이냐? 흑암의 땅이 되었단 말이냐? 너희가 내 백성이면서도, '마음대로 살겠습니다. 당신께로 돌아가지 않겠습니다.' 하니, 어찌 이럴 수가 있느냐?
  2. 처녀가 노리개를 잊을 수 있느냐? 새색시가 각시 띠를 잊을 수 있느냐? 그러나 나의 백성은 아득한 옛날에 이미 나를 잊어버렸다.
  3. 너희는 사내를 홀리는 데 능숙하여 매춘부조차 너희에게서 배우게 되었구나.
  4. 도둑질하다가 들킨 것도 아닌데, 가난하다고 해서 죄없는 사람을 죽여 그 피가 너희 옷자락에 묻었다. 이런 짓을 다 하고서도
  5. '나에게 무슨 죄가 있는가, 내가 무슨 천벌받을 일을 했단 말인가.' 하고 말한다마는, 죄없다고 한 바로 그 때문에 이제 나는 너희를 벌하리라.
  1. O generation, see ye the word of the LORD. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel? a land of darkness? wherefore say my people, We are lords; we will come no more unto thee?
  2. Can a maid forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? yet my people have forgotten me days without number.
  3. Why trimmest thou thy way to seek love? therefore hast thou also taught the wicked ones thy ways.
  4. Also in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents: I have not found it by secret search, but upon all these.
  5. Yet thou sayest, Because I am innocent, surely his anger shall turn from me. Behold, I will plead with thee, because thou sayest, I have not sinned.
  1. 손바닥 뒤집듯이 여기 붙고 저기 붙고 하니 어찌 그럴 수가 있느냐? 그러다가 아시리아에게 창피를 당하였듯이 이집트에게도 창피를 당하리라.
  2. 너희는 부끄러워 얼굴을 가리고 이집트에서 나오게 되리라. 너희가 의지하던 자들을 내가 버렸는데, 그것들을 믿고 하는 일이 어찌 잘되겠느냐?
  1. Why gaddest thou about so much to change thy way? thou also shalt be ashamed of Egypt, as thou wast ashamed of Assyria.
  2. Yea, thou shalt go forth from him, and thine hands upon thine head: for the LORD hath rejected thy confidences, and thou shalt not prosper in them.
