- 아들아, 아비의 훈계를 지키고 어미의 가르침을 저버리지 마라.
- 그 말을 언제나 네 가슴에 달아두고 네 목에 걸어두어라.
- 네가 어디로 가든지 너를 이끌어주고 자리에 누우면 보살펴 주며 눈을 뜨면 말동무가 되어준다.제 6 장
- 그 훈계는 횃불이 되고 그 가르침은 빛이 된다. 타이르며 교육하는 것이 곧 생명의 길이다.
- 탕녀에게 빠지지 않게 지켜주고 남의 계집의 꾐에 걸려들지 않게 해준다.

- My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
- Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.
- When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.
- For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
- To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.
