- 물론 먼젓번 계약에도 예배 규칙이 있었고 또 예배 장소가 있었습니다. 그러나 그 장소는 인간이 마련한 장소였습니다.
- 이렇게 세워진 천막 성전 앞칸에는 촛대와 상이 있었고 그 위에는 빵을 진열해 놓았는데 이 곳을 성소라고 합니다.
- 그리고 둘째 휘장 뒷칸을 지성소라고 불렀습니다.
- 거기에는 금으로 만든 분향제단과 온통 금으로 입힌 계약의 궤가 있었고 그 궤 속에는 만나를 담은 항아리와 싹이 돋은 아론의 지팡이와 계약이 새겨진 석판들이 들어 있었습니다.
- 또 그 궤 위에는 영광스러운 케르빔 천신상들이 있어 날개로 속죄판을 내리덮고 있었습니다. 지금은 이런 것들을 자세히 설명할 때가 아닙니다.

- Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary.
- For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein was the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary.
- And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all;
- Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant;
- And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we cannot now speak particularly.

- 천막 성전에는 이러한 것이 모두 갖추어져 있는데 사제들은 언제나 그 앞칸에 들어가서 예배를 집행합니다.
- 그러나 그 뒷칸에는 대사제만이 일 년에 단 한 번 들어가는데 그 때에는 반드시 피를 가지고 들어가게 되어 있습니다. 이 피는 대사제가 자신을 위해서 또 백성들이 모르고 지은 죄를 용서받기 위해서 바치는 것입니다.
- 이러한 제도를 통해서 성령이 보여주시는 것은 천막 성전의 앞칸이 그대로 있는 한 지성소로 들어가는 길은 아직 열려 있지 않다는 것입니다.
- 이 모든 것은 현세를 상징하는 것입니다. 그 제도를 따라 봉헌물과 희생제물을 바치지만 그것이 예배하는 사람의 양심을 완전하게 해주지는 못합니다.
- 그것은 다만 먹을 것과 마실 것과 여러 가지 씻는 예식에 관한 인간적인 규칙들로서 하느님께서 모든 일을 바로잡으시는 때가 올 때까지 유효할 뿐입니다.

- Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God.
- But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:
- The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:
- Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;
- Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation.

- 그러나 그리스도께서는 이미 존재하는 모든 좋은 것을 주관하시는 대사제로 오셨습니다. 그분이 사제로 일하시는 성전은 더 크고 더 완전한 것이며 사람의 손으로 만든 것이 아닙니다. 말하자면 창조된 이 세상에 속하여 있는 것이 아니라는 말입니다.
- 그리스도는 단 한 번 지성소에 들어가셔서 염소나 송아지의 피가 아닌 당신 자신의 피로써 우리에게 영원히 속죄받을 길을 마련해 주셨습니다.
- 부정한 사람들에게 염소나 황소의 피와 암송아지의 재를 뿌려도 그 육체를 깨끗하게 하여 그들을 거룩하게 할 수 있다면
- 하물며 성령을 통하여 당신 자신을 하느님께 흠없는 제물로 바치신 그리스도의 피는 우리의 양심을 깨끗하게 하는 데나 죽음의 행실을 버리게 하고 살아 계신 하느님을 섬기게 하는 데 얼마나 큰 힘이 되겠습니까?

- But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;
- Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
- For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:
- How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
