잠언 17:18-17:28

 미련한 자는 뇌물을 받고 온당치 못한 판결을 내리며 의인과 정직한 자를 핍박하여 야웨의 진노의 대상이 되나, 지혜로운 자는 말을 함부로 하지 않는다.
  
 
  1. 지각없는 사람이 남의 보증을 선다.
  2. 봉변당하고 싶은 사람은 싸움 좋아하고 윗자리에 서려는 사람은 스스로 넘어진다.
  3. 마음이 비뚤어진 사람은 잘될 리 없고 거짓말 잘하는 사람은 재난에 빠진다.
  4. 미련한 자식을 낳는 사람은 슬픔을 맛본다. 어리석은 자식을 둔 아비는 기쁨을 모른다.
  5. 마음이 즐거우면 앓던 병도 낫고 속에 걱정이 있으면 뼈도 마른다.
  1. A man void of understanding striketh hands, and becometh surety in the presence of his friend.
  2. He loveth transgression that loveth strife: and he that exalteth his gate seeketh destruction.
  3. He that hath a froward heart findeth no good: and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into mischief.
  4. He that begetteth a fool doeth it to his sorrow: and the father of a fool hath no joy.
  5. A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.
  1. 나쁜 사람은 남 몰래 뇌물을 받고 그릇된 판결을 내린다.
  2. 슬기로운 사람은 지혜를 제 앞에서 찾지만 미련한 사람은 눈으로 땅 끝을 더듬는다.
  3. 미련한 아들은 아비의 근심이 되고 어미의 아픔이 된다.
  4. 무죄한 사람 벌주는 것은 옳지 않다. 점잖은 사람 때리는 것은 당치 않다.
  5. 경험이 쌓일수록 말수가 적어지고 슬기를 깨칠수록 감정을 억제한다.
  1. A wicked man taketh a gift out of the bosom to pervert the ways of judgment.
  2. Wisdom is before him that hath understanding; but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth.
  3. A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bare him.
  4. Also to punish the just is not good, nor to strike princes for equity.
  5. He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.
  1. 어리석은 사람도 잠잠하면 지혜로워 보이고 입을 다물고 있으면 슬기로워 보인다.
  1. Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.
