- 예수 그리스도의 사도인 나 베드로는 본도와 갈라디아와 가빠도기아와 아시아와 비티니아에 흩어져서 나그네 생활을 하고 있는 여러분에게 이 편지를 씁니다.
- 여러분은 하느님 아버지께서 미리 세우신 계획에 따라 뽑혀서 성령으로 거룩하게 되어 예수 그리스도께 복종하게 되었으며 그분의 피로 죄가 씻겨진 사람들입니다. 여러분에게 은총과 평화가 충만하기를 빕니다.
- 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 아버지 하느님을 찬양합시다. 하느님께서는 당신의 크신 자비로 우리를 다시 낳아주시고 예수 그리스도를 죽은 자들 가운데서 다시 살리심으로써 우리에게 산 희망을 안겨주셨습니다.
- 그리고 여러분을 위하여 썩지 않고 더러워지지 않고, 시들지도 않는 분깃을 하늘에 마련해 두셨습니다.
- 하느님께서는 여러분의 믿음을 보시고 당신의 힘으로 여러분을 보호해 주시며 마지막 때에 나타나기로 되어 있는 구원을 얻게 하여주십니다.

- Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,
- Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.
- Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
- To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
- Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

- 그러므로 기뻐하십시오. 여러분이 지금 얼마 동안은 갖가지 시련을 겪으면서 슬퍼할 수밖에 없겠지만
- 그것은 여러분의 믿음을 순수하게 만들기 위한 것입니다. 결국 없어지고 말 황금도 불로 단련을 받습니다. 그러므로 황금보다 훨씬 더 귀한 여러분의 믿음은 많은 단련을 받아 순수한 것이 되어 예수 그리스도께서 나타나시는 날에 칭찬과 영광과 영예를 차지하게 될 것입니다.
- 여러분은 그리스도를 본 일이 없으면서도 그분을 사랑하고 그분을 보지 못하면서도 믿고 있으며 또 말할 수 없는 영광스러운 기쁨으로 넘쳐 있습니다.
- 그것은 여러분의 믿음이 결국 영혼을 구원하였기 때문입니다.
- 이 구원은 여러분에게 내릴 은총을 두고 예언한 예언자들이 열심히 찾고 연구하던 것입니다.

- Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:
- That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
- Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
- Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.
- Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:

- 예언자들이 그 일이 언제 어떤 모양으로 일어날 것인지를 연구하고 있을 때에 그들 속에 계신 그리스도의 성령이 그들에게 그리스도의 수난과 그 뒤에 올 영광을 미리 알려주셨습니다.
- 그들은 자기들이 찾은 진리가 자신들을 위한 것이 아니라 여러분을 위한 것이었음을 하느님의 계시에 의해서 알았습니다. 그리고 이제 이 진리는 하늘로부터 보내심을 받은 성령의 도움으로 복음을 전한 사람들에 의해서 여러분에게 알려졌습니다. 이것은 천사들도 보고 싶어하는 것입니다.

- Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.
- Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.
