- 사랑하는 여러분은 자기가 성령을 받았노라고 말하는 사람들을 다 믿지 말고 그들이 성령이라고 주장하는 것이 과연 하느님께로부터 온 것인지 아닌지를 시험해 보십시오. 많은 거짓 예언자가 세상에 나타났기 때문입니다.
- 하느님의 성령을 알아보는 방법은 다음과 같습니다. 예수 그리스도께서 사람의 몸으로 오셨다는 것을 인정하는 사람은 모두 하느님께로부터 성령을 받은 사람이고
- 예수께서 그런 분이시라는 것을 인정하지 않는 사람은 모두 하느님께로부터 성령을 받지 않은 사람입니다. 그런 사람은 그리스도의 적대자로부터 악령을 받은 것입니다. 그자가 오리라는 말을 여러분이 전에 들은 일이 있는데 그자는 벌써 이 세상에 와 있습니다.
- 사랑하는 자녀인 여러분은 하느님께로부터 왔고 거짓 예언자들을 이겨냈습니다. 여러분 안에 계시는 그분은 세상에 와 있는 그 적대자보다 더 위대하십니다.
- 그들은 이 세상에서 나왔기 때문에 이 세상 일을 말하고 세상은 그들의 말에 귀를 기울입니다.

- Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
- Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
- And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
- Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
- They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.

- 그러나 우리는 하느님께로부터 왔습니다. 하느님을 아는 사람은 우리의 말을 듣지만 하느님께로부터 오지 않은 사람은 우리의 말을 듣지 않습니다. 이렇게 우리는 진리의 성령과 사람을 속이는 악령을 가릴 수 있습니다.
- 사랑하는 여러분에게 당부합니다. 우리는 서로 사랑합시다. 사랑은 하느님께로부터 오는 것입니다. 사랑하는 사람은 누구나 하느님께로부터 났으며 하느님을 압니다.
- 사랑하지 않는 사람은 하느님을 알지 못합니다. 하느님은 사랑이시기 때문입니다.
- 하느님께서 당신의 외아들을 이 세상에 보내주셔서 우리는 그분을 통해서 생명을 얻게 되었습니다. 이렇게 해서 하느님의 사랑이 우리 가운데 분명히 나타났습니다.
- 내가 말하는 사랑은 하느님에게 대한 우리의 사랑이 아니라 우리에게 대한 하느님의 사랑입니다. 하느님께서는 당신의 아들을 보내셔서 우리의 죄를 용서해 주시려고 제물로 삼으시기까지 하셨습니다.

- We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
- Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
- He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
- In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
- Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

- 사랑하는 여러분, 명심하십시오. 하느님께서 이렇게까지 우리를 사랑해 주셨으니 우리도 서로 사랑해야 합니다.
- 아직까지 하느님을 본 사람은 없습니다. 그러나 우리가 서로 사랑한다면 하느님께서는 우리 안에 계시고 또 하느님의 사랑이 우리 안에서 이미 완성되어 있는 것입니다.
- 하느님께서 우리에게 당신의 성령을 주셨습니다. 그러므로 우리가 하느님 안에 있고 또 하느님께서 우리 안에 계시다는 것을 알 수 있습니다.
- 우리는 아버지께서 당신의 아들을 구세주로 보내신 것을 보았고 또 증언하고 있습니다.
- 누구든지 예수께서 하느님의 아들이시라는 것을 인정하면 하느님께서 그 사람 안에 계시고 그 사람도 하느님 안에 있습니다.

- Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
- No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.
- Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.
- And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.
- Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.

- 우리는 하느님께서 우리에게 베푸시는 사랑을 알고 또 믿습니다. 하느님은 사랑이십니다. 사랑 안에 있는 사람은 하느님 안에 있으며 하느님께서는 그 사람 안에 계십니다.
- 이 세상에서 우리가 그리스도처럼 살게 되었으니 사랑이 우리 안에서 완성된 것이 분명합니다. 이제 우리는 자신을 가지고 심판 날을 맞을 수 있게 되었습니다.
- 사랑에는 두려움이 없습니다. 완전한 사랑은 두려움을 몰아냅니다. 두려움은 징벌을 생각할 때 생기는 것입니다. 그러므로 두려움을 품는 사람은 아직 사랑을 완성하지 못한 사람입니다.
- 하느님께서 먼저 우리를 사랑하셨기 때문에 우리도 사랑을 합니다.
- 하느님을 사랑한다고 하면서 자기의 형제를 미워하는 사람은 거짓말쟁이입니다. 눈에 보이는 형제를 사랑하지 않는 자가 어떻게 보이지 않는 하느님을 사랑할 수 있겠습니까?

- And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
- Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
- There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
- We love him, because he first loved us.
- If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

- 하느님을 사랑하는 사람은 자기의 형제도 사랑해야 한다는 이 계명을 우리는 그리스도에게서 받았습니다.

- And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.
