- "자선을 베풀 때에는 위선자들이 칭찬을 받으려고 회당과 거리에서 하듯이 스스로 나팔을 불지 마라. 나는 분명히 말한다. 그들은 이미 받을 상을 다 받았다.
- 자선을 베풀 때에는 오른손이 하는 일을 왼손이 모르게 하여
- 그 자선을 숨겨두어라. 그러면 숨은 일도 보시는 네 아버지께서 갚아주실 것이다."
- "기도할 때에도 위선자들처럼 하지 마라. 그들은 남에게 보이려고 회당이나 한길 모퉁이에 서서 기도하기를 좋아한다. 나는 분명히 말한다. 그들은 이미 받을 상을 다 받았다.

- "Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.
- "So when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be honored by men Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.
- "But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
- so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.
- "When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.

- 너는 기도할 때에 골방에 들어가 문을 닫고 보이지 않는 네 아버지께 기도하여라. 그러면 숨은 일도 보시는 아버지께서 다 들어주실 것이다."
- "너희는 기도할 때에 이방인들처럼 빈말을 되풀이하지 마라. 그들은 말을 많이 해야만 하느님께서 들어주시는 줄 안다.
- 그러니 그들을 본받지 마라. 너희의 아버지께서는 구하기도 전에 벌써 너희에게 필요한 것을 알고 계신다.
- 그러므로 이렇게 기도하여라. 하늘에 계신 우리 아버지, 온 세상이 아버지를 하느님으로 받들게 하시며
- 아버지의 나라가 오게 하시며 아버지의 뜻이 하늘에서와 같이 땅에서도 이루어지게 하소서.

- "But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.
- "And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words.
- "So do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.
- "Pray, then, in this way: 'Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.
- 'Your kingdom come Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven.

- 오늘 우리에게 필요한 양식을 주시고
- 우리가 우리에게 잘못한 이를 용서하듯이 우리의 잘못을 용서하시고
- 우리를 유혹에 빠지지 않게 하시고 악에서 구하소서. (나라와 권세와 영광이 영원토록 아버지의 것입니다. 아멘.)
- 너희가 남의 잘못을 용서하면 하늘에 계신 아버지께서도 너희를 용서하실 것이다.
- 그러나 너희가 남의 잘못을 용서하지 않으면 아버지께서도 너희의 잘못을 용서하지 않으실 것이다."

- "For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
- "But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.

- "너희는 단식할 때에 위선자들처럼 침통한 얼굴을 하지 마라. 그들은 단식한다는 것을 남에게 보이려고 얼굴에 그 기색을 하고 다닌다. 나는 분명히 말한다. 그들은 이미 받을 상을 다 받았다.
- 단식할 때에는 얼굴을 씻고 머리에 기름을 발라라.
- 그리하여 단식하는 것을 남에게 드러내지 말고 보이지 않는 네 아버지께 보여라. 그러면 숨은 일도 보시는 아버지께서 갚아주실 것이다."
- "재물을 땅에 쌓아두지 마라. 땅에서는 좀먹거나 녹이 슬어 못쓰게 되며 도둑이 뚫고 들어와 훔쳐간다.
- 그러므로 재물을 하늘에 쌓아두어라. 거기서는 좀먹거나 녹슬어 못쓰게 되는 일도 없고 도둑이 뚫고 들어와 훔쳐가지도 못한다.

- "Whenever you fast, do not put on a gloomy face as the hypocrites do, for they neglect their appearance so that they will be noticed by men when they are fasting Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.
- "But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face
- so that your fasting will not be noticed by men, but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.
- "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.
- "But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal;

- 너희의 재물이 있는 곳에 너희의 마음도 있다."
- "눈은 몸의 등불이다. 그러므로 네 눈이 성하면 온몸이 밝을 것이며
- 네 눈이 성하지 못하면 온몸이 어두울 것이다. 그러니 만일 네 마음의 빛이 빛이 아니라 어둠이라면 그 어둠이 얼마나 심하겠느냐?"
- "아무도 두 주인을 섬길 수는 없다. 한 편을 미워하고 다른 편을 사랑하거나 한 편을 존중하고 다른 편을 업신여기게 된다. 너희는 하느님과 재물을 아울러 섬길 수 없다."

- "The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light.
- "But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
- "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other You cannot serve God and wealth.
