창세기 34:1-35:29

 야곱의 딸 디나가 세겜에게 추행당하고 그의 구혼을 받았다. 이에 노한 야곱의 아들들은 그들을 속여 세겜의 모든 남자들이 할례를 받게 한 후, 그들이 고통할 때 그들을 모두 죽이고 성을 약탈했다. 야곱이 하나님의 명령에 따라 벧엘로 올라가서 단을 쌓자 하나님께서는 그에게 땅과 자손의 복을 약속하셨다. 그 후 라헬은 베냐민을 낳다가 죽어 장사되었고, 이삭도 180세에 죽어 장사되었다.
  
  세겜 사건(34:1-34:31)    
 
  1. 레아가 야곱에게 낳아준 딸 디나가 그 고장 여자들을 보러 나갔다.
  2. 마침 그 지방 군주인 히위 사람 하몰의 아들 세겜이 디나를 보고 붙들어다가 겁탈하였다.
  3. 세겜은 야곱의 딸 디나에게 애타게 애정을 호소하였다.
  4. 그리고 세겜은 아버지 하몰에게 디나와 결혼하게 해달라고 졸랐다.
  5. 딸 디나가 욕을 보았다는 소문이 야곱에게 전해졌을 때, 그의 아들들은 들에 나가서 가축을 돌보고 있었다. 야곱은 그들이 돌아올 때까지 이 일을 입 밖에 내지 않았다.
  1. Now Dinah the daughter of Leah, whom she had borne to Jacob, went out to visit the daughters of the land.
  2. When Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, the prince of the land, saw her, he took her and lay with her by force.
  3. He was deeply attracted to Dinah the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the girl and spoke tenderly to her.
  4. So Shechem spoke to his father Hamor, saying, "Get me this young girl for a wife."
  5. Now Jacob heard that he had defiled Dinah his daughter; but his sons were with his livestock in the field, so Jacob kept silent until they came in.
  1. 세겜의 아버지 하몰이 야곱에게 청혼하러 왔다.
  2. 마침 야곱의 아들들은 들에서 돌아와 그 이야기를 듣고 머리 끝까지 화가 치밀어 있었다. 세겜이 야곱의 딸을 겁탈하다니, 뻔뻔스럽게 이스라엘을 욕보이다니! 화가 안 날 수 없었다.
  3. 그런 형편인데, 하몰이 그들에게 청혼을 하는 것이었다. "제 아들 녀석이 댁의 따님에게 아주 반해 버렸습니다. 그러니 댁의 따님을 저의 집에 며느리로 보내주십시오.
  4. 우리와 서로 통혼합시다. 당신네 딸을 우리에게 주시고 우리 딸을 당신들이 데려가십시오.
  5. 우리와 어울려 지내면서, 이 지방 어디에서나 마음대로 사십시오. 자리를 잡으시고 자유로 돌아다니며 땅을 차지하셔도 좋습니다."
  1. Then Hamor the father of Shechem went out to Jacob to speak with him.
  2. Now the sons of Jacob came in from the field when they heard it; and the men were grieved, and they were very angry because he had done a disgraceful thing in Israel by lying with Jacob's daughter, for such a thing ought not to be done.
  3. But Hamor spoke with them, saying, "The soul of my son Shechem longs for your daughter; please give her to him in marriage.
  4. "Intermarry with us; give your daughters to us and take our daughters for yourselves.
  5. "Thus you shall live with us, and the land shall be open before you; live and trade in it and acquire property in it."
  1. 세겜도 디나의 아버지와 오빠들에게 청을 드렸다. "너그러이 보아주십시오. 무엇이든지 말씀만 하십시오. 다 드리겠습니다.
  2. 신부 몸값과 선물은 얼마든지 있습니다. 댁의 따님을 아내로 맞게 해주시기만 한다면 무엇이든지 말씀하시는 대로 드리겠습니다."
  3. 야곱의 아들들은 자기들의 누이 디나가 욕본 것을 생각하면 화가 치밀었지만, 시치미를 떼고 세겜과 그의 아버지 하몰에게 대답하였다.
  4. "안 됩니다. 할례를 받지 않은 사람에게 우리 누이를 줄 수는 없습니다. 그것은 우리에게 부끄러운 일입니다." 그러면서 야곱의 아들들은 그들에게 이렇게 제안하였다.
  5. "한 가지 길은 있습니다. 당신네 남자가 모두 우리처럼 할례를 받겠습니까? 그래야만 우리는 당신들의 청혼을 들어줄 수 있습니다.
  1. Shechem also said to her father and to her brothers, "If I find favor in your sight, then I will give whatever you say to me.
  2. "Ask me ever so much bridal payment and gift, and I will give according as you say to me; but give me the girl in marriage."
  3. But Jacob's sons answered Shechem and his father Hamor with deceit, because he had defiled Dinah their sister.
  4. They said to them, "We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to one who is uncircumcised, for that would be a disgrace to us.
  5. "Only on this condition will we consent to you: if you will become like us, in that every male of you be circumcised,
  1. 그리고 나서야 우리 딸을 당신들이 맞아가고 당신들의 딸을 우리가 맞아오며 어울려 살 수 있단 말입니다. 그러면 우리는 한 겨레가 될 것입니다.
  2. 당신들이 이 조건을 받아들일 수가 없어 할례를 받지 않는다면 우리는 누이를 데리고 여기를 떠나겠습니다."
  3. 하몰과 하몰의 아들 세겜은 야곱의 아들들이 내놓은 조건이 좋을 것 같았다.
  4. 그래서 그 젊은이는 서둘러 할례를 받았다. 그만큼 그는 야곱의 딸을 좋아했던 것이다. 그런데 그는 온 가문 가운데서도 가장 세도 있는 사람이었다.
  5. 하몰과 그의 아들 세겜은 성문에 나가 자기들이 다스리는 주민들에게 이렇게 공포하였다.
  1. then we will give our daughters to you, and we will take your daughters for ourselves, and we will live with you and become one people.
  2. "But if you will not listen to us to be circumcised, then we will take our daughter and go."
  3. Now their words seemed reasonable to Hamor and Shechem, Hamor's son.
  4. The young man did not delay to do the thing, because he was delighted with Jacob's daughter. Now he was more respected than all the household of his father.
  5. So Hamor and his son Shechem came to the gate of their city and spoke to the men of their city, saying,
  1. "이분들은 아무하고나 잘 어울리는 분들이다. 이 고장에서 우리와 함께 살며 마음대로 왕래할 것이다. 이 땅은 어느 쪽을 보아도 넓어서 그들도 함께 살 수 있다. 그들의 딸을 우리의 아내로 맞아오고 그들도 우리의 딸을 아내로 맞아가게 하자.
  2. 그러나 이분들이 우리와 함께 살며 우리와 한 겨레가 되는 데는 한 가지 조건이 있다. 그것은 그들이 할례를 받은 것처럼 우리 모든 남자도 할례를 받아야 한다는 것이다.
  3. 결국은 그들의 양떼와 재산과 모든 가축이 우리 것이 되지 않겠느냐? 그러니 그들이 내놓은 조건을 수락하고 그들을 우리와 함께 살게 하자."
  4. 성문께로 나온 모든 주민이 하몰과 그의 아들 세겜의 말을 받아들였다. 그래서 성문께로 나왔던 남자는 모두 할례를 받았다.
  5. 그 다음 다음날 그들이 아직 아파서 신음하고 있을 때, 야곱의 아들 중 디나의 친오빠인 시므온과 레위가 칼을 빼 들고 당당하게 성 안으로 들어가 남자라는 남자는 모조리 죽여버렸다.
  1. "These men are friendly with us; therefore let them live in the land and trade in it, for behold, the land is large enough for them. Let us take their daughters in marriage, and give our daughters to them.
  2. "Only on this condition will the men consent to us to live with us, to become one people: that every male among us be circumcised as they are circumcised.
  3. "Will not their livestock and their property and all their animals be ours? Only let us consent to them, and they will live with us."
  4. All who went out of the gate of his city listened to Hamor and to his son Shechem, and every male was circumcised, all who went out of the gate of his city.
  5. Now it came about on the third day, when they were in pain, that two of Jacob's sons, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brothers, each took his sword and came upon the city unawares, and killed every male.
  1. 하몰과 그의 아들 세겜도 칼로 쳐죽이고 세겜의 집에서 디나를 데려내왔다.
  2. 야곱의 다른 아들들은 죽은 사람들에게 달려들어 시체를 털고 그 온 성을 털었다. 이렇게 하여 자기들의 누이가 욕본 것을 보복하였다.
  3. 그들은 양떼, 소떼, 나귀떼뿐 아니라 그 성 안에나 들에 있는 것을 모조리 빼앗아 가졌다.
  4. 모든 재산을 빼앗고 자식과 아낙네들을 사로잡고 집이라는 집은 다 털었다.
  5. 그러자 야곱은 시므온과 레위를 불러 나무랐다. "너희 때문에 나는 이 지방에 사는 가나안 사람과 브리즈인들에게 상종할 수 없는 추한 인간이 되고 말았다. 우리는 수가 얼마 되지 않는데 그들이 합세하여 나를 치면 나와 내 가족은 몰살당할 수밖에 없다."
  1. They killed Hamor and his son Shechem with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah from Shechem's house, and went forth.
  2. Jacob's sons came upon the slain and looted the city, because they had defiled their sister.
  3. They took their flocks and their herds and their donkeys, and that which was in the city and that which was in the field;
  4. and they captured and looted all their wealth and all their little ones and their wives, even all that was in the houses.
  5. Then Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, "You have brought trouble on me by making me odious among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites; and my men being few in number, they will gather together against me and attack me and I will be destroyed, I and my household."
  1. 그러나 그들은 "그자가 우리 누이를 창녀 다루듯이 했는데도 가만히 있어야 한단 말입니까?" 하고 대답하였다.
  1. But they said, "Should he treat our sister as a harlot?"
 
  벧엘로 올라간 야곱(35:1-35:29)    
 
  1. 하느님께서 야곱에게 말씀하셨다. "이러고 있지 말고 베델에 올라가 거기에 자리를 잡아라. 네가 형 에사오를 피해 갈 때 너에게 나타났던 이 하느님에게 제단을 쌓아 바쳐라."
  2. 야곱은 곧 그의 온 가족과 그가 거느리고 있는 모든 사람에게 말하였다. "너희에게 있는 남의 나라 신들을 내버려라. 깨끗이 몸을 씻고 옷을 갈아입어라.
  3. 이제 우리는 여기를 떠나 베델로 올라간다. 거기에서 나는 내가 어려움을 당할 때 나의 호소를 들어주시고 내가 가는 곳 어디에서나 보살펴 주신 하느님께 제단을 쌓아 바치고자 한다."
  4. 그들은 자기들에게 있는 남의 나라 신들과 귀에 걸고 있던 귀고리를 모두 야곱에게 내놓았다. 야곱은 세겜 근처 느티나무 밑에 그것들을 모두 묻었다.
  5. 그리고 그들은 그 길로 떠났다. 그러나 신비한 두려움이 주위에 있는 도시들을 휘어잡아서 아무도 야곱의 자손들을 추격하지 못했다.
  1. Then God said to Jacob, "Arise, go up to Bethel and live there, and make an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau."
  2. So Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, "Put away the foreign gods which are among you, and purify yourselves and change your garments;
  3. and let us arise and go up to Bethel, and I will make an altar there to God, who answered me in the day of my distress and has been with me wherever I have gone."
  4. So they gave to Jacob all the foreign gods which they had and the rings which were in their ears, and Jacob hid them under the oak which was near Shechem.
  5. As they journeyed, there was a great terror upon the cities which were around them, and they did not pursue the sons of Jacob.
  1. 야곱은 자기에게 딸린 사람들을 데리고 가나안 땅 루즈에 이르렀다. 이 루즈가 곧 베델이다.
  2. 야곱은 거기에 제단을 쌓고 그 곳 이름을 엘베델이라 하였다. 야곱이 형을 피해 갈 때 하느님께서 그 곳에서 그에게 나타나셨던 것이다.
  3. 베델 아래쪽 상수리나무 밑에는 리브가의 유모 드보라가 묻혀 있었다. 그래서 사람들은 그 곳을 알론바긋이라는 이름으로 불렀다.
  4. 야곱이 바딴아람에서 돌아오는데 하느님께서 다시 그에게 나타나셔서 복을 주시고
  5. 말씀하셨다. "네 이름은 야곱이었다. 그러나 이제부터는 야곱이 아니라 이스라엘이라 부를 것이다." 이리하여 그의 이름을 이스라엘이라 부르게 되었다.
  1. So Jacob came to Luz (that is, Bethel), which is in the land of Canaan, he and all the people who were with him.
  2. He built an altar there, and called the place El-bethel, because there God had revealed Himself to him when he fled from his brother.
  3. Now Deborah, Rebekah's nurse, died, and she was buried below Bethel under the oak; it was named Allon-bacuth.
  4. Then God appeared to Jacob again when he came from Paddan-aram, and He blessed him.
  5. God said to him, "Your name is Jacob; You shall no longer be called Jacob, But Israel shall be your name." Thus He called him Israel.
  1. 하느님께서 이어 말씀하셨다. "나는 전능한 하느님이다. 너는 많이 낳아 번성하거라. 너에게서 한 민족이, 아니 여러 민족이 모인 집단이 나리라. 네 후손 가운데서 왕들이 태어나리라.
  2. 아브라함과 이사악에게 주었던 이 땅을 내가 너에게 준다. 또한 너의 뒤를 이을 후손에게 준다."
  3. 하느님께서는 이렇게 야곱에게 말씀하시고 그를 떠나 올라가셨다.
  4. 야곱은 하느님께서 자기와 말씀을 나누시던 그 곳에다 석상을 세웠다. 그는 그 돌기둥 위에 술을 붓고 또 기름을 부었다.
  5. 야곱은 하느님께서 자기와 말씀을 나누시던 그 곳을 베델이라 이름하였다.
  1. God also said to him, "I am God Almighty; Be fruitful and multiply; A nation and a company of nations shall come from you, And kings shall come forth from you.
  2. "The land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I will give it to you, And I will give the land to your descendants after you."
  3. Then God went up from him in the place where He had spoken with him.
  4. Jacob set up a pillar in the place where He had spoken with him, a pillar of stone, and he poured out a drink offering on it; he also poured oil on it.
  5. So Jacob named the place where God had spoken with him, Bethel.
  1. 그들이 베델을 떠나가는 도중, 에브랏까지는 아직 얼마 더 가야 하는 데서 라헬이 몸을 풀게 되었다. 난산이었다.
  2. 아기를 낳지 못해 고생하는데 산파가 "걱정하지 마세요. 이번에도 아들입니다." 하고 위로하는 것이었다.
  3. 마침내 라헬은 죽게 되어 숨을 거두면서 아기 이름을 벤오니라고 불렀다. 그러나 아기 아버지는 베냐민이라 불렀다.
  4. 라헬은 에브랏으로 가는 길가에 묻혔다. 에브랏은 곧 베들레헴이다.
  5. 야곱은 라헬의 무덤 위에 비석을 세웠다. 그것이 이 날까지 라헬의 묘비로 알려져 있다.
  1. Then they journeyed from Bethel; and when there was still some distance to go to Ephrath, Rachel began to give birth and she suffered severe labor.
  2. When she was in severe labor the midwife said to her, "Do not fear, for now you have another son."
  3. It came about as her soul was departing (for she died), that she named him Ben-oni; but his father called him Benjamin.
  4. So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem).
  5. Jacob set up a pillar over her grave; that is the pillar of Rachel's grave to this day.
  1. 이스라엘은 다시 길을 떠나 믹달에델 건너편에 이르러 천막을 쳤다.
  2. 이스라엘이 그 땅에 살고 있을 때였다. 르우벤이 아버지의 소실 빌하를 범하였는데 그 이야기가 이스라엘의 귀에도 들어갔다.
  3. 야곱이 레아에게서 얻은 아들은 맏아들 르우벤, 그 아래로 시므온, 레위, 유다, 이싸갈, 즈불룬이었다.
  4. 요셉과 베냐민은 라헬에게서 얻은 아들이다.
  5. 단과 납달리는 라헬의 몸종 빌하에게서 얻은 아들이요,
  1. Then Israel journeyed on and pitched his tent beyond the tower of Eder.
  2. It came about while Israel was dwelling in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father's concubine, and Israel heard of it.
  3. the sons of Leah: Reuben, Jacob's firstborn, then Simeon and Levi and Judah and Issachar and Zebulun;
  4. the sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin;
  5. and the sons of Bilhah, Rachel's maid: Dan and Naphtali;
  1. 가드와 아셀은 레아의 몸종 질바에게서 얻은 아들이다. 이들은 야곱이 바딴아람에 있을 때에 얻은 아들들이다.
  2. 야곱은 마침내 아버지를 찾아 키럇아르바라고도 불리는 마므레에 이르렀다. 그 곳은 아브라함과 이사악이 몸붙여 살던 헤브론이다.
  3. 이사악은 백팔십 세나 살았다.
  4. 이사악이 이렇게 명이 다하여 숨을 거두고 죽어 세상을 떠나 선조들 곁으로 가자, 아들 에사오와 야곱이 그를 안장하였다.
  1. and the sons of Zilpah, Leah's maid: Gad and Asher. These are the sons of Jacob who were born to him in Paddan-aram.
  2. Jacob came to his father Isaac at Mamre of Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac had sojourned.
  3. Now the days of Isaac were one hundred and eighty years.
  4. Isaac breathed his last and died and was gathered to his people, an old man of ripe age; and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
