사무엘상

  본서는 지파 중심의 사사 체제에서 중앙 집권적 왕정 체제로의 변천 과정과 이스라엘을 통치하시는 하나님의 섭리, 즉 하나님께서는 인간의 삶뿐만 아니라 모든 민족의 삶을 주관하시는 것을 보여 주고 있다. 사무엘은 이스라엘의 초대 왕 사울과 그 뒤를 이은 다윗에게 기름을 부어 왕으로 삼음으로써 이스라엘의 왕정을 세우는 데 결정적인 역할을 했다.

  본서는 사무엘(1-7장), 사울(8-15장), 다윗(16-31장)을 중심으로 하여 전개된다. 타락한 제사장들과 사사들 때문에 백성들이 왕을 세워 줄 것을 요구하자, 하나님께서는 사울을 왕으로 세우신다. 그러나 그가 불순종하자 그를 버리고 다윗에게 기름을 부어 이스라엘의 왕으로 삼으신다.

 

 

사무엘상 1:1-2:36

 자식이 없어 고통을 당하던 한나는 하나님께 기도하고 통곡하며 서원하여 그토록 소원하던 아들 사무엘을 낳아 하나님께 드렸다. 이에 한나는 자신의 기도에 응답하신 하나님의 절대 주권과 능력을 찬양했다. 당시의 제사장 겸 사사인 엘리의 아들들이 하나님께 범죄함으로 인해 그 집안에 대한 하나님의 심판이 선고되었다.
  
  사무엘의 출생(1:1-1:28)    
 
  1. 에브라임 산악 지대에 엘카나라는 수브 사람이 살고 있었다. 그는 라마다임 출신으로서 에브라임 사람 수브의 현손이요, 도후의 증손이요, 엘리후의 손자요, 여로함의 아들이었다.
  2. 그는 두 아내를 거느리고 있었는데 한 아내의 이름은 한나요, 또 한 아내의 이름은 브닌나였다. 그런데 브닌나는 자식을 두었지만 한나는 자식이 없었다.
  3. 엘카나는 해마다 자기의 성읍을 떠나 실로로 올라가 만군의 야훼께 제사를 드려 예배하였다. 실로는 엘리의 두 아들 홉니와 비느하스가 야훼를 모시고 사제 일을 보고 있는 곳이었다.
  4. 제삿날이 되면 엘카나는 아내 브닌나와 그의 모든 아들딸들에게 제물을 몫몫이 나누어주었다.
  5. 그러나 엘카나는 한나를 사랑하면서도 그에게는 한몫밖에 줄 수가 없었다. 야훼께서 한나로 하여금 잉태하게 해주지 않으셨기 때문이었다.
  1. Now there was a certain man from Ramathaim-zophim from the hill country of Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite.
  2. He had two wives: the name of one was Hannah and the name of the other Peninnah; and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.
  3. Now this man would go up from his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice to the LORD of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were priests to the LORD there.
  4. When the day came that Elkanah sacrificed, he would give portions to Peninnah his wife and to all her sons and her daughters;
  5. but to Hannah he would give a double portion, for he loved Hannah, but the LORD had closed her womb.
  1. 게다가 적수 브닌나는, 야훼께서 잉태하게 해주시지 않아 속을 태우고 있는 한나를 더욱 괴롭혔다.
  2. 엘카나가 매년 야훼의 신전에 올라갈 적마다 그렇게 하였으므로 브닌나는 한나를 괴롭혔고 한나는 목이 메어 먹지를 못했다.
  3. 남편 엘카나는 한나를 보고 "왜 울기만 하오? 왜 먹지도 않고 슬퍼만 하오? 내가 당신한테는 아들 열보다도 낫지 않소?" 하며 위로해 주었다.
  4. 실로에서 제사 상을 물리고 나자 한나는 일어나 야훼 앞에 나아갔다. 그 때 마침 사제 엘리가 야훼의 성전 문 뒤에 있는 의자에 앉아 있었다.
  5. 한나는 마음이 아파 흐느껴 울며 야훼께 애원하였다.
  1. Her rival, however, would provoke her bitterly to irritate her, because the LORD had closed her womb.
  2. It happened year after year, as often as she went up to the house of the LORD, she would provoke her; so she wept and would not eat.
  3. Then Elkanah her husband said to her, "Hannah, why do you weep and why do you not eat and why is your heart sad? Am I not better to you than ten sons?"
  4. Then Hannah rose after eating and drinking in Shiloh. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat by the doorpost of the temple of the LORD.
  5. She, greatly distressed, prayed to the LORD and wept bitterly.
  1. 그는 서원을 하며 빌었다. "이 계집종의 가련한 모습을 굽어살펴 주십시오. 이 계집종을 저버리지 마시고 사내 아이 하나만 점지해 주십시오. 그러면 저는 그 아이를 야훼께 바치겠습니다. 평생 그의 머리를 깎지 않도록 하겠습니다."
  2. 한나가 야훼께 오래 기도를 드리고 있는 동안 엘리는 한나의 입술을 지켜보고 있었다.
  3. 한나는 속으로 기도하고 있었으므로 입술만 움직일 뿐, 소리가 들리지 않았다. 그래서 엘리가 한나를 술취한 여자로 알고,
  4. "언제까지 이렇게 주정을 하고 있을 참이냐? 어서 술에서 깨어나지 못하겠느냐?" 하고 꾸짖자
  5. 한나가 대답하였다. "아닙니다. 사제님! 저는 정신이 말짱합니다. 포도주도 소주도 마시지 않았습니다. 저는 야훼께 제 속을 털어놓고 있습니다.
  1. She made a vow and said, "O LORD of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a son, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and a razor shall never come on his head."
  2. Now it came about, as she continued praying before the LORD, that Eli was watching her mouth.
  3. As for Hannah, she was speaking in her heart, only her lips were moving, but her voice was not heard. So Eli thought she was drunk.
  4. Then Eli said to her, "How long will you make yourself drunk? Put away your wine from you."
  5. But Hannah replied, "No, my lord, I am a woman oppressed in spirit; I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I have poured out my soul before the LORD.
  1. 사제님, 이 계집종을 좋지 못한 여자로 생각지 마십시오. 저는 너무 서럽고 괴로워서 이제껏 기도하고 있었습니다."
  2. "그럼, 안심하고 돌아가거라. 이스라엘을 보살피시는 하느님께서 네 기도를 들어주실 것이다." 엘리가 이렇게 말하자,
  3. 한나는 "그렇게까지 보아주시니 고맙기 그지없습니다." 하면서 물러나와 음식을 먹었다. 그 얼굴에는 어느덧 수심이 걷히었다.
  4. 엘카나는 이튿날 아침 일찍 일어나 식구들과 함께 야훼께 예배를 드리고, 라마에 있는 집으로 돌아왔다. 엘카나가 아내 한나와 한자리에 들자, 야훼께서 한나를 마음에 두시어
  5. 임신하게 해주셨다. 한나는 달이 차서 아들을 낳자 '야훼께 빌어서 얻은 아기' 라고 하여 이름을 사무엘이라 지었다.
  1. "Do not consider your maidservant as a worthless woman, for I have spoken until now out of my great concern and provocation."
  2. Then Eli answered and said, "Go in peace; and may the God of Israel grant your petition that you have asked of Him."
  3. She said, "Let your maidservant find favor in your sight " So the woman went her way and ate, and her face was no longer sad.
  4. Then they arose early in the morning and worshiped before the LORD, and returned again to their house in Ramah And Elkanah had relations with Hannah his wife, and the LORD remembered her.
  5. It came about in due time, after Hannah had conceived, that she gave birth to a son; and she named him Samuel, saying, "Because I have asked him of the LORD."
  1. 엘카나, 그 사람이 식구들을 이끌고 다시 야훼께 주년제와 서원제를 드리러 올라가는데,
  2. 한나는 따라 나서지 않고 남편에게 이렇게 말하였다. "아기가 젖을 떼면 아기를 데리고 가서 야훼를 뵙겠습니다. 그리고 영영 거기에서 살게 하겠습니다."
  3. "당신 좋을 대로 하구려. 젖 뗄 때까지 집에 남아 있으시오. 야훼께서 부디 당신의 서약을 이루어주시기를 바라오." 그는 남편 엘카나의 허락을 받고 아들이 젖을 뗄 때까지 집에서 키우게 되었다.
  4. 이윽고 젖을 떼자 한나는 아기를 데리고 나섰다. 삼 년 된 황소 한 마리와 밀가루 한 에바에다 가죽부대에 포도주를 담아가지고 실로에 있는 야훼의 성전으로 어린 아들을 데리고 갔다.
  5. 일행은 소를 잡고 그 아이를 엘리에게 데려갔다.
  1. Then the man Elkanah went up with all his household to offer to the LORD the yearly sacrifice and pay his vow.
  2. But Hannah did not go up, for she said to her husband, "I will not go up until the child is weaned; then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD and stay there forever."
  3. Elkanah her husband said to her, "Do what seems best to you Remain until you have weaned him; only may the LORD confirm His word." So the woman remained and nursed her son until she weaned him.
  4. Now when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with a three-year-old bull and one ephah of flour and a jug of wine, and brought him to the house of the LORD in Shiloh, although the child was young.
  5. Then they slaughtered the bull, and brought the boy to Eli.
  1. 한나가 엘리에게 말하였다. "사제님, 말씀드리겠습니다. 사제님께서 지금 살아 계신 것이 틀림없듯이 제가 바로 이전에 여기 사제님 앞에서 야훼께 기도를 드리던 여자입니다.
  2. 이 아이는 기도해서 얻은 아이입니다. 제가 야훼께 애원했더니, 야훼께서 소원을 들어주셨습니다.
  3. 그래서 저는 이 아이를 야훼께 바치기로 하였습니다. 이 아이의 한평생을 야훼께 맡기고 싶습니다." 그러자 일행이 거기 야훼 앞에 엎드리고,
  1. She said, "Oh, my lord! As your soul lives, my lord, I am the woman who stood here beside you, praying to the LORD.
  2. "For this boy I prayed, and the LORD has given me my petition which I asked of Him.
  3. "So I have also dedicated him to the LORD; as long as he lives he is dedicated to the LORD " And he worshiped the LORD there.
 
  한나의 기도(2:1-2:11)    
 
  1. 한나가 이렇게 기도를 올렸다. "내 마음은 야훼님 생각으로 울렁거립니다. 하느님의 은덕으로 나는 얼굴을 들게 되었습니다. 이렇듯이 내 가슴에 승리의 기쁨을 안겨주시니 원수들 앞에서 자랑스럽기만 합니다.
  2. 야훼님처럼 거룩하신 분은 없으십니다. 당신밖에는 없으십니다. 우리 하느님 같은 바위는 없습니다.
  3. 잘난 체 지껄이는 자들아, 너무 우쭐대지 마라. 거만한 소리를 입에 담지 마라. 야훼는 사람이 하는 일을 다 아시는 하느님, 저울질하시는 하느님이시다.
  4. 힘있는 용사의 활은 꺾이고 비틀거리던 군인은 허리를 묶고 일어나게 되리라.
  5. 배불렀던 자는 떡 한 조각 얻기 위하여 품을 팔고 굶주리던 사람은 다시는 굶주리지 않게 되리라. 아이 못 낳던 여자는 일곱 남매를 낳고 아들 많던 어미는 그 기가 꺾이리라.
  1. Then Hannah prayed and said, "My heart exults in the LORD; My horn is exalted in the LORD, My mouth speaks boldly against my enemies, Because I rejoice in Your salvation.
  2. "There is no one holy like the LORD, Indeed, there is no one besides You, Nor is there any rock like our God.
  3. "Boast no more so very proudly, Do not let arrogance come out of your mouth; For the LORD is a God of knowledge, And with Him actions are weighed.
  4. "The bows of the mighty are shattered, But the feeble gird on strength.
  5. "Those who were full hire themselves out for bread, But those who were hungry cease to hunger. Even the barren gives birth to seven, But she who has many children languishes.
  1. 야훼께서는 사람의 생사를 쥐고 계시어 지하에 떨어뜨리기도 하시며 끌어올리기도 하신다.
  2. 야훼께서는 가난하게도 하시고 가멸지게도 하시며 쓰러뜨리기도 하시고 일으키기도 하신다.
  3. 땅바닥에 쓰러진 천민을 일으켜 세우시며 잿더미에 뒹구는 빈민을 들어 높이셔서 귀인들과 한자리에 앉혀주시고 영광스러운 자리를 차지하게 하신다. 땅의 밑동은 야훼의 것, 그 위에 세상을 지으셨으니
  4. 당신을 따르면 그 걸음걸음을 지켜주시지만 불의하게 살면 앞이 캄캄해져서 말문이 막히리라. 사람이 제 힘으로는 승리하지 못하는 법,
  5. 야훼께 맞서는 자는 깨어지리라. 지존하신 이께서 하늘에서 천둥 소리로 우렁차게 호령하신다. 야훼는 땅 끝까지 심판하시는 분, 당신께서 세우신 왕에게 힘을 주시며 기름 부어 세우신 임금의 이름을 떨치게 하신다."
  1. "The LORD kills and makes alive; He brings down to Sheol and raises up.
  2. "The LORD makes poor and rich; He brings low, He also exalts.
  3. "He raises the poor from the dust, He lifts the needy from the ash heap To make them sit with nobles, And inherit a seat of honor; For the pillars of the earth are the LORD'S, And He set the world on them.
  4. "He keeps the feet of His godly ones, But the wicked ones are silenced in darkness; For not by might shall a man prevail.
  5. "Those who contend with the LORD will be shattered; Against them He will thunder in the heavens, The LORD will judge the ends of the earth; And He will give strength to His king, And will exalt the horn of His anointed."
  1. 한나는 사제 엘리 밑에서 야훼를 모시도록 아이를 거기에 남겨두고 라마로 돌아갔다.
  1. Then Elkanah went to his home at Ramah But the boy ministered to the LORD before Eli the priest.
 
  엘리의 아들들(2:12-2:36)    
 
  1. 엘리의 아들들은 망나니들로서 야훼를 몰라보고
  2. 사람을 대하는 사제의 규정도 무시하였다. 사제의 시종은, 누가 제사를 드릴 때 고기를 삶고 있으면 삼지창을 들고 다니며
  3. 가마솥이나 노구솥이나 뚝배기나 냄비 할 것 없이 닥치는 대로 휘저어서 삼지창에 꽂혀 나오는 것은 모두 가져갔다. 그들은 이스라엘 사람들이 실로에 와서 제사를 드릴 때마다 그렇게 하였다.
  4. 사제의 시종은 그뿐 아니라 기름을 태워 바치기 전에도 제사를 드리는 사람들에게 와서 "사제님은 삶은 것은 받지 않으시고 날것만 받으시니, 사제님께 구워드릴 고기를 내놓아라." 하고 생떼를 썼다.
  5. 그 사람이, 기름을 먼저 태워 바친 다음에 마음대로 가져가라고 해도 "그건 안 된다. 지금 내지 않으면 강제로 빼앗아 가겠다." 하면서 을러메었다.
  1. Now the sons of Eli were worthless men; they did not know the LORD
  2. and the custom of the priests with the people. When any man was offering a sacrifice, the priest's servant would come while the meat was boiling, with a three-pronged fork in his hand.
  3. Then he would thrust it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fork brought up the priest would take for himself. Thus they did in Shiloh to all the Israelites who came there.
  4. Also, before they burned the fat, the priest's servant would come and say to the man who was sacrificing, "Give the priest meat for roasting, as he will not take boiled meat from you, only raw."
  5. If the man said to him, "They must surely burn the fat first, and then take as much as you desire," then he would say, "No, but you shall give it to me now; and if not, I will take it by force."
  1. 이렇게 그들이 시종들을 시켜 저지른 잘못은 야훼께서 보시기에 너무나 심하였다. 그들은 야훼께 바치는 제물을 이처럼 모독하였던 것이다.
  2. 어린 나이에 야훼를 모시게 된 사무엘은 몸에 모시 에봇을 입고 지냈다.
  3. 그의 어머니는 매년 주년제를 드리러 남편과 함께 올라올 때마다 작은 두루마기 한 벌을 지어다가 아들에게 주었다.
  4. 그러면 엘리는 엘카나 부부에게 "야훼께서 맡기로 하신 이 아이 대신으로 이 부인 몸에서 후손이 나게 해주십시오." 하고 복을 빌어주었고 이 축복을 받고 그들은 자기네 고장으로 돌아가곤 하였다.
  5. 야훼께서 한나에게 은덕을 베푸셔서 한나는 삼남 이녀를 더 두게 되었다. 그러는 동안 어린 사무엘은 야훼 앞에서 자라났다.
  1. Thus the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD, for the men despised the offering of the LORD.
  2. Now Samuel was ministering before the LORD, as a boy wearing a linen ephod.
  3. And his mother would make him a little robe and bring it to him from year to year when she would come up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.
  4. Then Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife and say, "May the LORD give you children from this woman in place of the one she dedicated to the LORD." And they went to their own home.
  5. The LORD visited Hannah; and she conceived and gave birth to three sons and two daughters And the boy Samuel grew before the LORD.
  1. 엘리는 매우 늙었다. 그는 자기의 아들들이 온 이스라엘 사람들에게 온갖 못된 짓을 하였고 그리고 만남의 장막 문간에서 봉사하는 여인들의 방에 들기까지 했다는 소문을 듣고,

  3. 이놈들아, 못쓴다! 그런 추문이 야훼의 백성 사이에 두루 퍼져서 내 귀에까지 들려오게 하다니.
  4. 사람이 사람에게 죄를 지으면 하느님께서 그 사이에 서주시겠지만, 사람이 야훼께 죄를 얻는다면 누가 그 사이에서 빌어주겠느냐?" 그런데도 그들은 아버지의 말을 들으려 하지 않았다. 야훼께서 이미 그들을 죽이시기로 작정하셨던 것이다.
  5. 한편 어린 사무엘은 야훼와 사람들에게 귀염을 받으며 무럭무럭 자랐다.
  1. Now Eli was very old; and he heard all that his sons were doing to all Israel, and how they lay with the women who served at the doorway of the tent of meeting.
  2. He said to them, "Why do you do such things, the evil things that I hear from all these people?
  3. "No, my sons; for the report is not good which I hear the LORD'S people circulating.
  4. "If one man sins against another, God will mediate for him; but if a man sins against the LORD, who can intercede for him?" But they would not listen to the voice of their father, for the LORD desired to put them to death.
  5. Now the boy Samuel was growing in stature and in favor both with the LORD and with men.
  1. 하느님의 사람 하나가 엘리에게 와서 말을 전하였다. "야훼의 말씀이니 들으시오. '너도 알다시피 네 조상이 식구들을 데리고 이집트에서 파라오에게 종살이를 하고 있을 때 나는 그들에게 스스로를 나타내 보였다.
  2. 나는 이스라엘 온 지파 가운데서 네 조상을 선택하여 나를 섬기는 사제로 삼아 내 제단의 층계를 오르내리며 내 앞에서 제물을 살라 바치고 에봇을 입게 하였다. 또 이스라엘 사람들이 살라 바치는 모든 예물도 네 조상의 가문에게 맡겼다.
  3. 그런데 너는 어찌하여 내가 정해 준 제물과 곡식예물을 멸시하여 소홀히 다루느냐? 그리고 나보다도 네 자식들을 더 소중히 여겨 내 백성 이스라엘이 바치는 온갖 예물 가운데서 알맹이만 내주어 스스로 살찌게 하느냐?
  4. 이에 이스라엘의 하느님 나 야훼가 말한다. 내가 일찍이 네 집과 네 가문이 영원히 나를 섬기리라고 했지만 이제 분명히 말해 두거니와 나는 그 약속을 철회한다. 나를 존대하는 자는 소중히 여겨주겠지만, 나를 멸시하는 자는 천대하리라. 나 야훼의 말이다.
  5. 내가 네 기운, 네 가문의 기운을 꺾으리니 이제 네 집안에 늙은이 하나 남지 못할 날이 오리라.
  1. Then a man of God came to Eli and said to him, "Thus says the LORD, 'Did I not indeed reveal Myself to the house of your father when they were in Egypt in bondage to Pharaoh's house?
  2. 'Did I not choose them from all the tribes of Israel to be My priests, to go up to My altar, to burn incense, to carry an ephod before Me; and did I not give to the house of your father all the fire offerings of the sons of Israel?
  3. 'Why do you kick at My sacrifice and at My offering which I have commanded in My dwelling, and honor your sons above Me, by making yourselves fat with the choicest of every offering of My people Israel?'
  4. "Therefore the LORD God of Israel declares, 'I did indeed say that your house and the house of your father should walk before Me forever'; but now the LORD declares, 'Far be it from Me--for those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me will be lightly esteemed.
  5. 'Behold, the days are coming when I will break your strength and the strength of your father's house so that there will not be an old man in your house.
  1. 그 날이 오면 너는 내가 이스라엘에게 주는 번영을 보고 속이 뒤틀릴 것이다. 그러나 네 집안에서는 두 번 다시 늙은이를 볼 수 없을 것이다.
  2. 네 후손 가운데서 하나만 남겨 내 제단 일을 보게 하겠지만, 그도 기운이 다하고 그의 후손마저 모두 사람들의 칼에 맞아 죽으리라.
  3. 네 두 아들 홉니와 비느하스가 한 날에 죽거든, 그것이 이런 일이 일어날 조짐인 줄 알아라.
  4. 나는 충성스러운 사제를 세워 그로 하여금 내 마음 내 뜻을 그대로 이루게 하리라. 그의 가문을 일으켜 내가 기름 부어 세운 왕 앞에서 길이길이 나를 섬기게 하리라.
  5. 그러면 네 집안에서 살아 남은 자는 그에게 가서 밥벌이할 일자리를 얻으려고 굽실거리며, 제발 사제직에 붙여주어 빵부스러기라도 얻어먹게 해달라고 애걸하게 될 것이다.'"
  1. 'You will see the distress of My dwelling, in spite of all the good that I do for Israel; and an old man will not be in your house forever.
  2. 'Yet I will not cut off every man of yours from My altar so that your eyes will fail from weeping and your soul grieve, and all the increase of your house will die in the prime of life.
  3. 'This will be the sign to you which will come concerning your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas: on the same day both of them will die.
  4. 'But I will raise up for Myself a faithful priest who will do according to what is in My heart and in My soul; and I will build him an enduring house, and he will walk before My anointed always.
  5. 'Everyone who is left in your house will come and bow down to him for a piece of silver or a loaf of bread and say, "Please assign me to one of the priest's offices so that I may eat a piece of bread."'"
