사무엘하 17:15-18:33

 후새의 도움으로 다윗은 무사히 위기를 벗어나 마하나임으로 도피했다. 그러나 끝까지 추격하는 압살롬과 에브라임 숲에서 일대 격전을 벌일 수밖에 없었다. 결국 압살롬은 요압에 의해 비참하게 죽고, 이를 전해 들은 다윗은 매우 슬퍼하였다.
  
  다윗의 피신(17:15-17:29)    
 
  1. 그러고 나서 후새는 사독과 에비아달 두 사제에게 아히도벨이 압살롬과 이스라엘 장로들에게 이러이러한 의견을 내놓았으나 자기는 이러이러한 계책을 내놓았다는 걸 알리고 이렇게 일렀다.
  2. "당장 다윗에게 사람을 보내어 광야로 건너는 나루터에서 이 밤을 묵다가는 왕과 일행이 변을 당할 터이니, 곧 강을 건너시라고 전해 주시오."
  3. 요나단과 아히마스는 성에 들어가지 않고 엔로겔 샘터에서 기다리고 있다가 어떤 하녀가 소식을 가져오면 그것을 다윗 왕에게로 가서 전하게 되어 있었다. 그들은 남의 눈에 뜨이지 않으려고 성 안에 들어가지 않았던 것이다.
  4. 그런데 한 아이가 그들을 보고 압살롬에게 가서 일러바쳤다. 그것을 알고 두 사람은 얼른 도망쳐 바후림에 있는 어떤 사람의 집으로 뛰어들었다. 그 집 뜰에 마침 우물이 있어서 그들이 그리로 들어가자
  5. 그 집 아낙네가 멍석을 가져다 우물 아귀를 덮고 그 위에다 곡식을 널어 감쪽같이 만들어놓았다.
  1. Then Hushai said to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, "This is what Ahithophel counseled Absalom and the elders of Israel, and this is what I have counseled.
  2. "Now therefore, send quickly and tell David, saying, 'Do not spend the night at the fords of the wilderness, but by all means cross over, or else the king and all the people who are with him will be destroyed.'"
  3. Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz were staying at En-rogel, and a maidservant would go and tell them, and they would go and tell King David, for they could not be seen entering the city.
  4. But a lad did see them and told Absalom; so the two of them departed quickly and came to the house of a man in Bahurim, who had a well in his courtyard, and they went down into it.
  5. And the woman took a covering and spread it over the well's mouth and scattered grain on it, so that nothing was known.
  1. 압살롬의 부하들이 그 집에 들이닥쳐 아낙네에게 아히마스와 요나단이 어디 있느냐고 물었으나 아낙네는 "여기를 지나 저 물을 건너갔어요." 하고 시치미를 뗐다. 그들은 사방으로 찾았으나 찾지 못하고 예루살렘으로 돌아갔다.
  2. 그들이 가버린 뒤 두 사람은 우물에서 나와 급히 다윗 왕에게 가서 아히도벨이 왕의 일행을 잡으려고 짜냈다는 계략을 알리면서 어서 지체말고 강을 건너야 한다고 하였다.
  3. 다윗 일행은 곧 요르단 강을 건넜다. 날이 밝기까지 강을 건너지 못한 사람은 하나도 없었다.
  4. 한편 아히도벨은 자기의 계략이 깨진 것을 보고 나귀에 안장을 얹어 곧장 자기 성으로 돌아가 집에 가서 식구들에게 유언을 남기고 목을 매어 죽었다. 그는 선산에 묻혔다.
  5. 다윗이 마하나임에 이르렀을 때에야 압살롬은 전 이스라엘 군을 거느리고 요르단 강을 건넜다.
  1. Then Absalom's servants came to the woman at the house and said, "Where are Ahimaaz and Jonathan?" And the woman said to them, "They have crossed the brook of water." And when they searched and could not find them, they returned to Jerusalem.
  2. It came about after they had departed that they came up out of the well and went and told King David; and they said to David, "Arise and cross over the water quickly for thus Ahithophel has counseled against you."
  3. Then David and all the people who were with him arose and crossed the Jordan; and by dawn not even one remained who had not crossed the Jordan.
  4. Now when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his donkey and arose and went to his home, to his city, and set his house in order, and strangled himself; thus he died and was buried in the grave of his father.
  5. Then David came to Mahanaim. And Absalom crossed the Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him.
  1. 압살롬은 요압 대신 아마사를 총사령관으로 임명하였다. 아마사는 이스라엘 사람으로서 그 아버지의 이름은 이드라였다. 그런데 그는 요압과 이종간으로 그 이모의 이름은 스루야였고, 어머니의 이름은 아비가일이었으며 외조부의 이름은 나하스였다.
  2. 압살롬은 이스라엘 군을 거느리고 와서 길르앗 지방에 진을 쳤다.
  3. 다윗이 마하나임에 도착했을 때였다. 암몬 땅 라빠에서 나하스의 아들 소비가, 로드발에서 암미엘의 아들 마길이, 로글림에서 길르앗 사람 바르질래가 나와 맞으며
  4. 이부자리, 주발, 물병, 밀, 보릿가루, 볶은 밀, 보리, 콩, 팥,
  5. 꿀, 엉긴 젖, 양고기, 쇠고기 등을 다윗 일행에게 먹으라고 내놓았다. 일행이 광야를 지나오는 동안 굶주리고 목이 말라 지쳤으리라 생각하고 가져왔던 것이다.
  1. Absalom set Amasa over the army in place of Joab Now Amasa was the son of a man whose name was Ithra the Israelite, who went in to Abigail the daughter of Nahash, sister of Zeruiah, Joab's mother.
  2. And Israel and Absalom camped in the land of Gilead.
  3. Now when David had come to Mahanaim, Shobi the son of Nahash from Rabbah of the sons of Ammon, Machir the son of Ammiel from Lo-debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite from Rogelim,
  4. brought beds, basins, pottery, wheat, barley, flour, parched grain, beans, lentils, parched seeds,
  5. honey, curds, sheep, and cheese of the herd, for David and for the people who were with him, to eat; for they said, "The people are hungry and weary and thirsty in the wilderness."
 
  압살롬의 죽음(18:1-18:33)    
 
  1. 다윗은 부하 장병을 점호하고 천인대장, 백인대장을 세웠다.
  2. 그리고 다윗은 전군을 셋으로 나누어 한 부대는 요압에게, 한 부대는 스루야의 아들 요압의 친동생인 아비새에게, 한 부대는 갓 사람 이때에게 맡기고 나서 전군에게 "나도 너희들과 같이 나가겠다." 하고 선언하였다. 그러자
  3. 장병들이 모두 말렸다. "임금님께서 나가시면 안 됩니다. 적은 우리가 도망친다 해도 거들떠보지 않을 것입니다. 우리가 한 반쯤 죽는다 해도 대단하게 여기지 않을 것입니다. 하지만 임금님의 한 몸은 우리들 만 명 값으로 칠 것입니다. 그러니 임금님께서는 이 성 안에 계시면서 저희를 도와주시는 것이 좋겠습니다."
  4. 왕은 그들의 말을 따르기로 하고 성문 곁에 서서 백인부대, 천인부대가 진군하는 것을 사열하고는
  5. 요압과 아비새와 이때에게, 압살롬은 아직 철이 없으니 자기를 보아서라도 너무 심하게 다루지는 말라고 당부하였다. 왕이 전 지휘관에게 압살롬을 두고 부탁하는 말을 전군이 들었다.
  1. Then David numbered the people who were with him and set over them commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds.
  2. David sent the people out, one third under the command of Joab, one third under the command of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joab's brother, and one third under the command of Ittai the Gittite. And the king said to the people, "I myself will surely go out with you also."
  3. But the people said, "You should not go out; for if we indeed flee, they will not care about us; even if half of us die, they will not care about us. But you are worth ten thousand of us; therefore now it is better that you be ready to help us from the city."
  4. Then the king said to them, "Whatever seems best to you I will do." So the king stood beside the gate, and all the people went out by hundreds and thousands.
  5. The king charged Joab and Abishai and Ittai, saying, "Deal gently for my sake with the young man Absalom." And all the people heard when the king charged all the commanders concerning Absalom.
  1. 전군은 이스라엘을 맞아 싸우기 위하여 들판으로 나갔다. 싸움은 에브라임 숲에서 벌어졌다.
  2. 거기에서 이스라엘 군은 다윗의 부하들에게 패하여 그 날로 이만 명이나 되는 전사자를 냈다.
  3. 싸움은 그 일대에 번져 그 날, 칼에 죽은 사람보다는 숲에 막혀 죽은 사람이 더 많았다.
  4. 그런데 압살롬이 그만 다윗의 부하들에게 발견되었다. 압살롬은 노새를 타고 울창한 상수리나무 밑으로 빠져 나가다가 머리가 나뭇가지에 걸리고 말았다. 타고 가던 노새는 그대로 달아나 버리고 압살롬은 공중에 매달려 있었다.
  5. 군인 하나가 이것을 보고 요압에게 보고했다. "압살롬이 상수리나무에 매달려 있는 것을 보았습니다."
  1. Then the people went out into the field against Israel, and the battle took place in the forest of Ephraim.
  2. The people of Israel were defeated there before the servants of David, and the slaughter there that day was great, 20,000 men.
  3. For the battle there was spread over the whole countryside, and the forest devoured more people that day than the sword devoured.
  4. Now Absalom happened to meet the servants of David. For Absalom was riding on his mule, and the mule went under the thick branches of a great oak. And his head caught fast in the oak, so he was left hanging between heaven and earth, while the mule that was under him kept going.
  5. When a certain man saw it, he told Joab and said, "Behold, I saw Absalom hanging in an oak."
  1. 말을 전하는 자에게 요압이 소리쳤다. "네가 그것을 보았다면 어째서 그를 그 자리에서 쳐서 떨어뜨리지 않았느냐? 그랬더라면 내가 너에게 은 열 냥과 띠 하나를 주었을 것이다."
  2. 그가 요압에게 대답했다. "비록 은 천 냥을 손에 쥐어주신다 해도 저는 왕자에게 손을 대지 않겠습니다. 저희는 왕께서 장군과 아비새와 이때에게 당신 생각을 해서라도 젊은 압살롬을 보호해 달라고 당부하시는 말씀을 들었습니다.
  3. 그런데 어떻게 제가 제 목숨을 내걸고 그런 불충한 일을 하겠습니까? 왕께서 결국 아시게 될 터인데, 그 때에는 장군님도 모르시는 체하실 것 아닙니까?"
  4. 요압은 "너와 이렇게 꾸물거리고 있을 때가 아니다." 하며 창 세 개를 연거푸 던져 상수리나무에 매달린 채 살아 있는 압살롬의 심장을 찔렀다.
  5. 그러자 요압의 무기를 들고 다니던 군인 열이 달려들어 그를 쳐죽였다.
  1. Then Joab said to the man who had told him, "Now behold, you saw him! Why then did you not strike him there to the ground? And I would have given you ten pieces of silver and a belt."
  2. The man said to Joab, "Even if I should receive a thousand pieces of silver in my hand, I would not put out my hand against the king's son; for in our hearing the king charged you and Abishai and Ittai, saying, 'Protect for me the young man Absalom!'
  3. "Otherwise, if I had dealt treacherously against his life (and there is nothing hidden from the king), then you yourself would have stood aloof."
  4. Then Joab said, "I will not waste time here with you." So he took three spears in his hand and thrust them through the heart of Absalom while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak.
  5. And ten young men who carried Joab's armor gathered around and struck Absalom and killed him.
  1. 요압은 곧 나팔을 불어 이스라엘 군 추격을 중지시켰다. 다른 병사들은 죽일 생각이 없었던 것이다.
  2. 그들은 압살롬을 끌어다가 숲 속에 있는 깊은 웅덩이에 던지고 그 위에 돌을 쌓아 큰 돌무더기로 만들었다. 이스라엘 군은 저마다 자기 집으로 도망쳐 버렸다.
  3. 그런데 압살롬은 살아 있을 때 자기 이름을 이어갈 아들이 없다고 해서 왕의 계곡에 돌기둥을 세운 일이 있었다. 그는 그 돌기둥을 자기 이름을 따서 불렀는데 그것을 오늘날까지도 압살롬의 비석이라 부른다.
  4. 사독의 아들 아히마스가, 왕에게 달려가 야훼께서 임금님을 원수들 손에서 구해 주신 소식을 전하겠다고 자원하였다.
  5. 그러나 요압이 말렸다. "오늘 이 일을 희소식이라고 전할 사람은 네가 아니다. 후에 그럴 기회가 있을 것이다. 왕자가 죽은 날인데 오늘 이것을 희소식이라고 가져가겠느냐?"
  1. Then Joab blew the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing Israel, for Joab restrained the people.
  2. They took Absalom and cast him into a deep pit in the forest and erected over him a very great heap of stones And all Israel fled, each to his tent.
  3. Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and set up for himself a pillar which is in the King's Valley, for he said, "I have no son to preserve my name." So he named the pillar after his own name, and it is called Absalom's Monument to this day.
  4. Then Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said, "Please let me run and bring the king news that the LORD has freed him from the hand of his enemies."
  5. But Joab said to him, "You are not the man to carry news this day, but you shall carry news another day; however, you shall carry no news today because the king's son is dead."
  1. 요압은 구스 사람 하나를 불러 "네가 가서 본 대로 임금님께 아뢰어라." 하며 떠나 보냈다. 구스 사람은 요압에게 절을 하고 나서 달려갔다.
  2. 사독의 아들 아히마스가 다시 요압에게 청했다. "무슨 일이 생기더라도 저 구스 사람의 뒤를 따라가게 해주십시오." "아히마스야, 이 소식을 가지고 가보아야 아무런 상도 없을 터인데 왜 자꾸 가겠다고 하느냐?" 하고 요압이 타일렀으나
  3. 그는 어떤 일이 있어도 가겠다고 했다. 하는 수 없이 요압이 "그렇다면 가보아라." 하자 아히마스는 요르단 분지로 달려서 구스 사람을 앞질렀다.
  4. 그 때 다윗은 바깥 성문과 안 성문 사이에 앉아 있었는데 보초병이 문루에 올라가 살피다가 웬 사람이 혼자서 뛰어오는 것을 보고,
  5. 왕에게 소리쳐 알렸다. 왕은 "혼자라면 좋은 소식을 가지고 오는 것이겠지." 하고 말하였다. 그 사람이 점점 가까이 다가오는데,
  1. Then Joab said to the Cushite, "Go, tell the king what you have seen." So the Cushite bowed to Joab and ran.
  2. Now Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said once more to Joab, "But whatever happens, please let me also run after the Cushite." And Joab said, "Why would you run, my son, since you will have no reward for going?"
  3. "But whatever happens," he said, "I will run." So he said to him, "Run." Then Ahimaaz ran by way of the plain and passed up the Cushite.
  4. Now David was sitting between the two gates; and the watchman went up to the roof of the gate by the wall, and raised his eyes and looked, and behold, a man running by himself.
  5. The watchman called and told the king. And the king said, "If he is by himself there is good news in his mouth." And he came nearer and nearer.
  1. 보초는 또 한 사람이 달려오는 것을 보고 성문께에 대고 소리쳤다. "또 한 사람이 혼자 달려오고 있습니다." 왕은 "그도 좋은 소식을 가지고 오는 것이겠지." 하고 말하였다.
  2. 보초가 다시 "앞에 오는 사람은 그 달리는 품이 사독의 아들 아히마스 같습니다." 하자 왕은 "그는 좋은 사람이니 희소식을 가지고 왔을 것이다." 하고 말하였다.
  3. 이윽고 아히마스가 왕 앞에 나와 문안을 드리고 나서 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드려 아뢰었다. "임금님의 하느님 야훼께 찬양을 돌립니다. 야훼께서는 임금님께 반기를 든 자들을 처치해 버리셨습니다."
  4. 왕은 "철부지 압살롬은 무사하냐?" 하고 물었다. "요압 장군이 소인을 보낼 때 큰 소란이 벌어졌습니다마는 무슨 일이었는지는 알 수 없습니다." 아히마스가 이렇게 대답하자
  5. 왕은 그에게 비켜 서 있으라고 하였다. 아히마스가 물러나 곁에 서 있는데,
  1. Then the watchman saw another man running; and the watchman called to the gatekeeper and said, "Behold, another man running by himself." And the king said, "This one also is bringing good news."
  2. The watchman said, "I think the running of the first one is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok " And the king said, "This is a good man and comes with good news."
  3. Ahimaaz called and said to the king, "All is well." And he prostrated himself before the king with his face to the ground And he said, "Blessed is the LORD your God, who has delivered up the men who lifted their hands against my lord the king."
  4. The king said, "Is it well with the young man Absalom?" And Ahimaaz answered, "When Joab sent the king's servant, and your servant, I saw a great tumult, but I did not know what it was."
  5. Then the king said, "Turn aside and stand here." So he turned aside and stood still.
  1. 구스 사람이 와서 아뢰었다. "임금님, 좋은 소식입니다. 오늘 야훼께서는 역적들을 벌하시고 임금님을 그들의 손에서 건져내셨습니다."
  2. 왕이 그에게도 "철부지 압살롬은 무사하냐?" 하고 묻자, 구스 사람이 대답했다. "임금님을 대적하여 반역이나 하는 자는 누구든지 그가 당한 일을 같이 당하게 되기 바랍니다."
  1. Behold, the Cushite arrived, and the Cushite said, "Let my lord the king receive good news, for the LORD has freed you this day from the hand of all those who rose up against you."
  2. Then the king said to the Cushite, "Is it well with the young man Absalom?" And the Cushite answered, "Let the enemies of my lord the king, and all who rise up against you for evil, be as that young man!"
  3. The king was deeply moved and went up to the chamber over the gate and wept. And thus he said as he walked, "O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! Would I had died instead of you, O Absalom, my son, my son!"
