- 왕은 유다와 예루살렘의 모든 장로들을 소집하였다.
- 왕은 유다 국민들과 예루살렘 시민들, 사제들과 예언자들, 높고 낮은 모든 백성들을 데리고 야훼의 전으로 올라가 야훼의 전에서 찾은 언약법전을 읽어 조목조목 다 들려주었다.
- 그런 후에 기둥 있는 데로 올라가서, 야훼를 따르며 마음을 다 기울이고 목숨을 다 바쳐 그의 계명과 훈령과 규정을 지켜 그 책에 기록되어 있는 언약을 이루기로 야훼 앞에서 서약하였다. 백성들도 모두 따라 서약하였다.
- 왕은 대사제 힐키야와 부사제와 문지기들에게 명하여 야훼의 전 안에서 바알과 아세라와 하늘의 별을 섬기는 데 쓰던 모든 기구들을 치우게 하였다. 그는 그 기구들을 예루살렘 성 밖 키드론 벌판에서 불사르고 그 재를 베델로 가져갔다.
- 그는 또 유다 각 성읍과 예루살렘 인근 지역에 있는 산당들에서 제물을 살라 바치도록 유다 왕들이 세웠던 가짜 사제들을 파면하고, 바알과 해와 달과 성좌들과 하늘의 별들에게 제물을 살라 바치던 자들을 모두 파면하였다.

- Then the king sent, and they gathered to him all the elders of Judah and of Jerusalem.
- The king went up to the house of the LORD and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests and the prophets and all the people, both small and great; and he read in their hearing all the words of the book of the covenant which was found in the house of the LORD.
- The king stood by the pillar and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep His commandments and His testimonies and His statutes with all his heart and all his soul, to carry out the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people entered into the covenant.
- Then the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest and the priests of the second order and the doorkeepers, to bring out of the temple of the LORD all the vessels that were made for Baal, for Asherah, and for all the host of heaven; and he burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of the Kidron, and carried their ashes to Bethel.
- He did away with the idolatrous priests whom the kings of Judah had appointed to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah and in the surrounding area of Jerusalem, also those who burned incense to Baal, to the sun and to the moon and to the constellations and to all the host of heaven.

- 또 아세라 목상을 야훼의 집에서 들어내다가 예루살렘 성 밖 키드론 골짜기에서 불사르고는 가루로 만들어 공동 묘지에 뿌렸다.
- 왕은 또 여인들이 아세라 대신 음란을 피우던 남창의 집들을 야훼의 전에서 허물어버렸다.
- 그는 유다 모든 성읍에서 사제들을 불러들이고 게바에서부터 브엘세바에 이르기까지 전국에서 그들이 제사 드리던 산당들을 모두 부정한 곳으로 만들었다. 성문으로 들어가면서 왼쪽으로 성주의 이름을 따 여호수아의 문이라 불리는 문이 있는데 그 문 앞에 있던 염소 귀신들을 섬기는 산당을 헐어버렸다.
- 산당들에 있던 사제들은 예루살렘에 있는 야훼의 제단에 올라가지 못하게 하였지만 그러나 다른 사제들과 함께 누룩이 들지 않은 떡은 먹게 하였다.
- 왕은 벤힌놈 골짜기에 있는 도벳을 부정한 곳으로 만들어 아무도 자녀를 몰렉에게 살라 바치지 못하도록 하였다.

- He brought out the Asherah from the house of the LORD outside Jerusalem to the brook Kidron, and burned it at the brook Kidron, and ground it to dust, and threw its dust on the graves of the common people.
- He also broke down the houses of the male cult prostitutes which were in the house of the LORD, where the women were weaving hangings for the Asherah.
- Then he brought all the priests from the cities of Judah, and defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba to Beersheba; and he broke down the high places of the gates which were at the entrance of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were on one's left at the city gate.
- Nevertheless the priests of the high places did not go up to the altar of the LORD in Jerusalem, but they ate unleavened bread among their brothers.
- He also defiled Topheth, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, that no man might make his son or his daughter pass through the fire for Molech.

- 또 유다 왕들이 태양신을 모시는 말 동상을 야훼의 전 문 어귀에 있는 야훼의 전 내시 나단멜렉의 행랑채 곁에 세웠었는데 그것도 부수고 태양신이 타는 병거는 태워버렸다.
- 그는 유다 왕들이 아하즈의 다락방 옥상에 세운 제단들과 므나쎄가 야훼의 전 안팎 뜰에 세운 제단들을 모두 헐어 가루로 만들어 키드론 골짜기에 뿌렸다.
- 또 왕은 이스라엘 왕 솔로몬이 시돈 사람들의 역겨운 아스다롯 여신상과 모압인의 역겨운 그모스 신상과 암몬인의 역겨운 밀곰 신상을 모시기 위하여 예루살렘을 마주보는 그 멸망의 산 남쪽에 세웠던 산당들을 부정한 곳으로 만들었다.
- 석상들을 부수고 목상들은 토막을 내고 사람의 해골을 거기에 너저분하게 널어놓았다.
- 왕은 또한 이스라엘을 죄에 빠뜨린 느밧의 아들 여로보암이 베델에 세웠던 산당과 제단도 허물고 돌들을 부수어 가루를 만들었으며 아세라 목상은 태워버렸다.

- He did away with the horses which the kings of Judah had given to the sun, at the entrance of the house of the LORD, by the chamber of Nathan-melech the official, which was in the precincts; and he burned the chariots of the sun with fire.
- The altars which were on the roof, the upper chamber of Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, and the altars which Manasseh had made in the two courts of the house of the LORD, the king broke down; and he smashed them there and threw their dust into the brook Kidron.
- The high places which were before Jerusalem, which were on the right of the mount of destruction which Solomon the king of Israel had built for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Sidonians, and for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, and for Milcom the abomination of the sons of Ammon, the king defiled.
- He broke in pieces the sacred pillars and cut down the Asherim and filled their places with human bones.
- Furthermore, the altar that was at Bethel and the high place which Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin, had made, even that altar and the high place he broke down Then he demolished its stones, ground them to dust, and burned the Asherah.

- 요시아는 산 위에 공동 묘지가 있는 것을 보고 사람을 보내어 무덤 속에서 해골을 꺼내어 제단 위에 놓고 불살라 그 제단을 부정하게 하였다. 여로보암이 축제 때에 그 제단 앞에서 제사 드릴 때 하느님의 사람이 외친 야훼의 말씀이 이렇게 이루어졌다. 거기에는 그 하느님의 사람이 묻힌 무덤이 있었는데, 요시아는 그 무덤을 보고
- 저기 보이는 저 비석이 무엇이냐고 물었다. 그 마을 사람들이 "유다에서 온 하느님의 사람의 무덤입니다. 그가 일찍이 말하기를 임금님께서 베델의 제단을 이렇게 하시리라고 했습니다."
- 그러자 왕이 말하였다. "그분을 건드리지 마라. 아무도 그 유해에 손을 대지 마라." 이 말을 따라 그의 유골은 사마리아에서 온 예언자의 유골과 함께 아무도 손을 대지 않았으므로 그대로 남아 있게 되었다.
- 이스라엘 왕들은 사마리아의 여러 성읍 언덕마다에 산당을 세워 야훼의 속을 썩여드렸는데, 요시아는 베델에서 한 것처럼 그 산당들도 철거하였다.
- 그는 그 곳 산당들의 사제들을 모두 제단 위에서 죽여 사람의 해골과 함께 그 제단 위에서 불사르고는 예루살렘으로 돌아왔다.

- Now when Josiah turned, he saw the graves that were there on the mountain, and he sent and took the bones from the graves and burned them on the altar and defiled it according to the word of the LORD which the man of God proclaimed, who proclaimed these things.
- Then he said, "What is this monument that I see?" And the men of the city told him, "It is the grave of the man of God who came from Judah and proclaimed these things which you have done against the altar of Bethel."
- He said, "Let him alone; let no one disturb his bones." So they left his bones undisturbed with the bones of the prophet who came from Samaria.
- Josiah also removed all the houses of the high places which were in the cities of Samaria, which the kings of Israel had made provoking the LORD; and he did to them just as he had done in Bethel.
- All the priests of the high places who were there he slaughtered on the altars and burned human bones on them; then he returned to Jerusalem.

- 왕은 또 전국민에게 명령을 내렸다. "이 언약법전에 기록되어 있는 대로 너희 하느님 야훼께 감사하여 과월절을 지켜라."
- 그래서 지킨 과월절 축제는 일찍이 판관들이 이스라엘을 다스리던 시대나 왕들이 이스라엘과 유다를 다스리던 어느 시대에도 없었던 것이었다.
- 예루살렘에서 야훼를 기려 과월절 축제를 지킨 것은 요시아 왕이 즉위한 지 십팔 년 되던 해의 일이었다.
- 요시아는 또 유다와 예루살렘에서 도깨비나 귀신을 불러 물어보는 자들과 가문의 수호신과 온갖 역겨운 우상들을 눈에 띄는 대로 쓸어버렸다. 이렇게 하여 요시아는 사제 힐키야가 야훼의 전에서 찾아낸 책에 기록되어 있는 조문들을 시행하였다.
- 요시아처럼 야훼께로 돌아가 마음을 다 기울이고 생명을 다 바치고 힘을 다 쏟아 모세의 법을 온전히 지킨 왕은 전에도 없었고 후에도 없었다.

- Then the king commanded all the people saying, "Celebrate the Passover to the LORD your God as it is written in this book of the covenant."
- Surely such a Passover had not been celebrated from the days of the judges who judged Israel, nor in all the days of the kings of Israel and of the kings of Judah.
- But in the eighteenth year of King Josiah, this Passover was observed to the LORD in Jerusalem.
- Moreover, Josiah removed the mediums and the spiritists and the teraphim and the idols and all the abominations that were seen in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, that he might confirm the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of the LORD.
- Before him there was no king like him who turned to the LORD with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; nor did any like him arise after him.

- 그러나 야훼께서는 므나쎄 때문에 너무나도 속이 썩으셨으므로 유다에 쏟으시려던 맹렬한 진노를 풀지 않으셨다.
- 그래서 야훼께서는 이렇게 선언하셨다. "나는 이스라엘을 내쫓은 것처럼 유다도 또한 내쫓으리라. 일찍이 선택하여 내 것으로 삼았던 이 예루살렘 도성과 내 명의로 삼았던 이 성전을 버리리라."
- 요시아의 나머지 치적과 사적은 유다 왕조실록에 기록되어 있다.
- 그가 다스리고 있을 때, 이집트 왕 파라오 느고가 아시리아 왕을 도우려고 유프라테스 강을 향하여 출병하였다. 요시아 왕은 그를 맞아 싸우려고 출동하였다. 그러나 요시아는 므기또에서 파라오 느고와 접전하자마자 전사하였다.
- 부하들은 죽은 왕을 병거에 모시고 므기또에서 예루살렘으로 돌아와 마련된 그의 무덤에 안장하였다. 그리고 지방민들은 요시아의 아들 여호아하즈를 뽑아 기름을 부어 선왕의 뒤를 잇게 하였다.

- However, the LORD did not turn from the fierceness of His great wrath with which His anger burned against Judah, because of all the provocations with which Manasseh had provoked Him.
- The LORD said, "I will remove Judah also from My sight, as I have removed Israel And I will cast off Jerusalem, this city which I have chosen, and the temple of which I said, 'My name shall be there.'"
- Now the rest of the acts of Josiah and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?
- In his days Pharaoh Neco king of Egypt went up to the king of Assyria to the river Euphrates And King Josiah went to meet him, and when Pharaoh Neco saw him he killed him at Megiddo.
- His servants drove his body in a chariot from Megiddo, and brought him to Jerusalem and buried him in his own tomb Then the people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah and anointed him and made him king in place of his father.

- 여호아하즈는 이십삼 세에 왕위에 올라 예루살렘에서 삼 개월간 다스렸다. 그의 어머니는 리브나 출신 예레미야의 딸로서 이름을 하무달이라고 하였다.
- 그는 선조들이 그러하였듯이 야훼 보시기에 악한 일을 행하였다.
- 그는 하맛 지방 리블라에서 파라오 느고에게 붙잡혀 예루살렘의 왕위에서 내려앉게 되었다. 파라오 느고는 이 나라에 은 백 달란트와 금 십 달란트를 조공으로 바치게 하였다.
- 그리고 파라오 느고는 요시아의 아들 엘리야킴을 세워 아버지 요시아의 뒤를 잇게 하고 이름을 여호야킴으로 바꾸게 하였다. 여호아하즈는 이집트로 끌려가 그 곳에서 죽었다.
- 여호야킴은 파라오가 요구한 은과 금을 바쳤는데, 우선 그 충당량을 채우기 위하여 전국에 세금을 부과해야만 하였다. 그는 백성들 한 사람 한 사람에게서 그의 재산 정도를 따라 세금을 거두어 파라오 느고에게 바쳤다.

- Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he became king, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.
- He did evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his fathers had done.
- Pharaoh Neco imprisoned him at Riblah in the land of Hamath, that he might not reign in Jerusalem; and he imposed on the land a fine of one hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold.
- Pharaoh Neco made Eliakim the son of Josiah king in the place of Josiah his father, and changed his name to Jehoiakim But he took Jehoahaz away and brought him to Egypt, and he died there.
- So Jehoiakim gave the silver and gold to Pharaoh, but he taxed the land in order to give the money at the command of Pharaoh. He exacted the silver and gold from the people of the land, each according to his valuation, to give it to Pharaoh Neco.

- 여호야킴은 이십오 세에 왕위에 올라 예루살렘에서 십일 년간 다스렸다. 그의 어머니는 루마 출신 브다야의 딸로서 이름을 즈비다라고 하였다.

- Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Zebidah the daughter of Pedaiah of Rumah.
- He did evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his fathers had done.
