	역대하 21:1-23:21 여호람은 자신의 형제와 방백들을 죽이고 산당을 세워 우상 숭배를 강요하는 등의 악정을 행하였다. 하나님께서는 그를 블레셋과 아라비아를 통해 징계하여 비참한 최후를 맞게 하셨다. 여호람의 아들 아하시야도 악정을 행하다가 예후의 손에 죽었다. 그러자 아달랴가 왕위 찬탈을 위해 다윗 왕가의 진멸을 꾀했는데, 결국은 극적으로 구출된 요아스가 여호야다의 개혁에 의해 왕위에 올랐다.

	여호람의 유다 통치(21:1-21:20)

여호사밧이 세상을 떠나 다윗 성에 있는 왕실 묘지에 묻히자 그의 아들 여호람이 뒤를 이어 왕위에 올랐다.

그에게는 아우가 있었는데, 이름은 아자리야, 여히엘, 즈가리야, 아자리야, 미가엘, 스바티야였다. 이들은 유다 왕 여호사밧의 아들들이었다.

부왕은 이 아들들에게 금은 보화와 함께 유다의 요새화된 성읍을 선물로 주었지만 왕권만은 맏아들인 여호람에게 물려주었다.

여호람은 부왕에게서 물려받은 왕좌에 올라 자리를 굳힌 다음 동생들을 다 칼로 쳐죽이고 이스라엘 장군들도 더러 죽였다.

여호람은 삼십이 세에 왕위에 올라 예루살렘에서 팔 년간 다스렸다.

Then Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of David, and Jehoram his son became king in his place.

He had brothers, the sons of Jehoshaphat: Azariah, Jehiel, Zechariah, Azaryahu, Michael and Shephatiah. All these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.

Their father gave them many gifts of silver, gold and precious things, with fortified cities in Judah, but he gave the kingdom to Jehoram because he was the firstborn.

Now when Jehoram had taken over the kingdom of his father and made himself secure, he killed all his brothers with the sword, and some of the rulers of Israel also.

Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.

그는 아합의 사위가 되다 보니, 아합 가문이 하던 대로 이스라엘 왕들의 전철을 밟아 야훼의 눈에 거슬리는 일을 하게 되었다.

그러나 야훼께서는 당신의 종 다윗과 맺으신 계약을 생각하시고 다윗 왕가를 멸망시킬 생각은 없으셨다. 일찍이 다윗과 그 후손들에게 영원히 꺼지지 않는 불씨를 주겠다고 약속하셨던 것이다.

그가 다스리고 있는 동안에 에돔은 유다에 반기를 들고 저희의 왕을 세웠다.

여호람은 장군들을 이끌고 모든 병거대를 출동시켜 세일로 건너 갔다가 수하 장군들이 거느리는 병거대와 함께 에돔 군에게 포위되었으나 밤에 일어나 에돔 군 포위망을 뚫고 나왔다.

이리하여 에돔은 유다의 지배에서 벗어나 오늘에 이르렀다. 리브나가 반란을 일으켜 유다의 지배에서 벗어난 것도 그 때였다. 그는 선조들의 하느님 야훼를 저버렸다가 이 변을 당했던 것이다.

He walked in the way of the kings of Israel, just as the house of Ahab did (for Ahab's daughter was his wife), and he did evil in the sight of the LORD.

Yet the LORD was not willing to destroy the house of David because of the covenant which He had made with David, and since He had promised to give a lamp to him and his sons forever.

In his days Edom revolted against the rule of Judah and set up a king over themselves.

Then Jehoram crossed over with his commanders and all his chariots with him. And he arose by night and struck down the Edomites who were surrounding him and the commanders of the chariots.

So Edom revolted against Judah to this day. Then Libnah revolted at the same time against his rule, because he had forsaken the LORD God of his fathers.

그는 유다 언덕들 위에 산당을 세우고 예루살렘 시민들을 유혹하여 우상을 섬기게 하고 유다 백성을 죄에 빠뜨렸다.

예언자 엘리야가 그에게 이런 편지를 보낸 일이 있다. "네 선조 다윗의 하느님 야훼께서 하시는 말씀이다. '너는 네 아비 여호사밧이나 유다 왕 아사가 가던 길을 따르지 않고

이스라엘 왕들의 전철을 밟고 있다. 너는 아합 가문의 더러운 행실을 본떠 유다 백성과 예루살렘 시민을 유혹하여 우상을 섬기게 하였다. 또 같은 아비의 피를 나누어 받은 아우들을 죽였다. 그들은 너보다 나은 사람들이었다.

이제 나 야훼가 네 백성, 네 자식들, 네 계집들, 네 가축들에게 큰 재앙을 내리리라.

너 또한 뱃속을 훑어내는 무서운 배앓이에 걸려 오래 고생하리라.'"

Moreover, he made high places in the mountains of Judah, and caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem to play the harlot and led Judah astray.

Then a letter came to him from Elijah the prophet saying, "Thus says the LORD God of your father David, 'Because you have not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat your father and the ways of Asa king of Judah,

but have walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and have caused Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to play the harlot as the house of Ahab played the harlot, and you have also killed your brothers, your own family, who were better than you,

behold, the LORD is going to strike your people, your sons, your wives and all your possessions with a great calamity;

and you will suffer severe sickness, a disease of your bowels, until your bowels come out because of the sickness, day by day.'"

야훼께서는 불레셋 사람과 에티오피아와 인접해 사는 아랍인들의 마음을 부추겨 여호람을 치게 하셨다.

그들은 유다로 쳐 올라와서는 성을 뚫고 대궐 안에 들어와 닥치는 대로 모든 재산을 가져가고 왕의 아들들과 여자들을 마구 잡아갔다. 남은 사람이라고는 막내아들 여호아하즈뿐이었다.

이런 일이 있은 뒤에 여호람은 야훼께 벌을 받아 고칠 수 없는 속병을 얻어

오랫동안 고생하였다. 이렇게 속을 훑어내는 고질병으로 이 년을 고생하다가 마침내 죽었다. 그러나 백성은 그를 위하여, 그의 부왕에게 했듯이 불을 밝혀두지는 않았다.

그는 삼십이 세에 왕위에 올라 예루살렘에서 팔 년간 다스렸다. 그러나 애도하는 사람 하나 없는 가운데 그는 가고 말았다. 사람들은 그를 다윗 성에 안장하기는 했으나 왕실 묘지를 쓰지는 않았다.

Then the LORD stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines and the Arabs who bordered the Ethiopians;

and they came against Judah and invaded it, and carried away all the possessions found in the king's house together with his sons and his wives, so that no son was left to him except Jehoahaz, the youngest of his sons.

So after all this the LORD smote him in his bowels with an incurable sickness.

Now it came about in the course of time, at the end of two years, that his bowels came out because of his sickness and he died in great pain. And his people made no fire for him like the fire for his fathers.

He was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years; and he departed with no one's regret, and they buried him in the city of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.

	아하시야의 유다 통치(22:1-22:12)

예루살렘 시민들은 그의 막내아들 아하지야를 왕으로 세워 뒤를 잇게 하였다. 아하지야의 형들은 전에 아랍인들과 함께 쳐들어왔던 침략군에게 학살당했던 것이다. 그리하여 여호람의 아들 아하지야가 유다 왕이 되었다.

아하지야는 사십이 세에 왕이 되어 예루살렘에서 일 년간 다스렸다. 그의 어머니는 오므리의 손녀로서 이름은 아달리야라고 하였다.

어머니의 그릇된 의견을 따르다 보니 그도 아합 가문의 전철을 밟게 되었고,

아합 가문처럼 야훼의 눈에 거슬리는 일을 하였다. 부왕이 죽은 뒤에 그들의 의견을 따르다가 스스로 자기 무덤을 파고 만 것이다.

그는 그들의 의견을 받아들여 이스라엘 왕 요람과 함께 시리아 왕 하자엘을 맞아 싸우려고 라못길르앗으로 갔다. 그 싸움에서 요람은 시리아 군에게 맞아 다쳤다.

Then the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah, his youngest son, king in his place, for the band of men who came with the Arabs to the camp had slain all the older sons. So Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah began to reign.

Ahaziah was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Athaliah, the granddaughter of Omri.

He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab, for his mother was his counselor to do wickedly.

He did evil in the sight of the LORD like the house of Ahab, for they were his counselors after the death of his father, to his destruction.

He also walked according to their counsel, and went with Jehoram the son of Ahab king of Israel to wage war against Hazael king of Aram at Ramoth-gilead. But the Arameans wounded Joram.

그는 시리아 왕 하자엘과 라못에서 싸우다가 얻은 상처를 치료하려고 이즈르엘로 돌아왔는데, 유다 왕 여호람의 아들 아하지야는 요람을 문병하러 이즈르엘로 내려갔다.

아하지야는 요람에게로 갔다가 망하게 되었다. 하느님께서 그렇게 꾸미신 것이다. 야훼께서는 이미 님시의 아들 예후에게 기름을 부어주시고 아합 가문을 멸하려고 하시는데 아하지야는 그것도 모르고 요람과 함께 예후에게로 갔다.

예후는 아합 가문의 죄를 다스리다가 유다 군 장교들과 아하지야를 모시는 왕의 조카들을 만나 죽였다.

아하지야는 사마리아에 가서 숨어 있다가 끌려왔다. 예후가 그를 죽이자 사람들은 "그래도 한마음으로 야훼만 찾던 여호사밧의 아들인데." 하며 장례를 치러주었다. 마침내 아하지야 집안에는 왕노릇 할 만큼 강한 사람이 없게 되었다.

아하지야의 어머니 아달리야는 아들이 죽는 것을 보자 곧 유다 왕가의 혈육을 모두 죽이기 시작하였다.

So he returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which they had inflicted on him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Aram. And Ahaziah, the son of Jehoram king of Judah, went down to see Jehoram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.

Now the destruction of Ahaziah was from God, in that he went to Joram For when he came, he went out with Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom the LORD had anointed to cut off the house of Ahab.

It came about when Jehu was executing judgment on the house of Ahab, he found the princes of Judah and the sons of Ahaziah's brothers ministering to Ahaziah, and slew them.

He also sought Ahaziah, and they caught him while he was hiding in Samaria; they brought him to Jehu, put him to death and buried him For they said, "He is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought the LORD with all his heart." So there was no one of the house of Ahaziah to retain the power of the kingdom.

Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she rose and destroyed all the royal offspring of the house of Judah.

다른 왕자들은 모두 살해되었으나 아하지야의 아들 요아스만은 여호사브앗이 몰래 빼내다가 유모와 함께 자기 침실에 숨겨두었으므로 아달리야의 손에 죽지 않았다. 여호사브앗은 여호람 왕의 딸이요 여호야다 사제의 아내였다. 그러니 아하지야의 누이이기도 하였다.

아달리야가 나라를 다스리는 육 년 동안 요아스는 그들과 함께 하느님의 성전 안에 숨어 살았다.

But Jehoshabeath the king's daughter took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king's sons who were being put to death, and placed him and his nurse in the bedroom. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of King Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest (for she was the sister of Ahaziah), hid him from Athaliah so that she would not put him to death.

He was hidden with them in the house of God six years while Athaliah reigned over the land.

	제사장 여호야다의 개혁(23:1-23:21)

그러나 칠 년째 되던 해에 여호야다는 용기를 내어 여로함의 아들 아자리야, 여호하난의 아들 이스마엘, 오벳의 아들 아자리야, 아다야의 아들 마아세야, 지그리의 아들 엘리사밧 등과 내통하였다. 이들은 모두 백인대장이었다.

그들은 유다 전국을 돌아다니며 유다 모든 성읍에 사는 레위인과 이스라엘 각 가문의 어른들을 모았다. 예루살렘에 도착한

이들 온 회중은 하느님의 성전에서 왕과 계약을 맺었다. 여호야다가 그들에게 말하였다. "보아라, 여기에 왕세자가 계시다. 야훼께서 다윗의 후손을 두고 하신 말씀을 따라 이분을 왕으로 모셔라.

이제 너희는 이렇게 하여라. 안식일에 근무하는 너희 사제와 레위인들 가운데 삼분의 일은 현관문을 지키고

다른 삼분의 일은 왕궁을 지키며 나머지 삼분의 일은 성문을 지키고 일반 백성은 야훼의 성전 뜰에 모여라.

Now in the seventh year Jehoiada strengthened himself, and took captains of hundreds: Azariah the son of Jeroham, Ishmael the son of Johanan, Azariah the son of Obed, Maaseiah the son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat the son of Zichri, and they entered into a covenant with him.

They went throughout Judah and gathered the Levites from all the cities of Judah, and the heads of the fathers' households of Israel, and they came to Jerusalem.

Then all the assembly made a covenant with the king in the house of God. And Jehoiada said to them, "Behold, the king's son shall reign, as the LORD has spoken concerning the sons of David.

"This is the thing which you shall do: one third of you, of the priests and Levites who come in on the sabbath, shall be gatekeepers,

and one third shall be at the king's house, and a third at the Gate of the Foundation; and all the people shall be in the courts of the house of the LORD.

아무도 야훼의 성전 안으로는 들어가지 못한다. 거기에는 사제들과 그들을 돕는 레위인들만이 들어갈 수 있는 곳이다. 그들은 성별된 사람이므로 들어갈 수 있다. 일반 백성은 모두 야훼께서 분부하신 규례를 지키도록 하여라.

누구든지 성전으로 들어가려는 자는 죽여라. 레위인들은 각자 무기를 들고 임금님을 호위하여라. 어디로 가시든지 임금님 곁을 떠나지 마라."

레위인들과 온 유다인들은 사제 여호야다의 명령을 따랐다. 사제 여호야다가 모든 반에 비상 근무령을 내렸기 때문에 장군들은 안식일 근무반과 안식일 비번반을 모두 출두시켰다.

사제 여호야다는 다윗 왕이 하느님의 성전에 마련해 둔 창과 긴 방패, 둥근 방패를 백인대장들에게 나누어주었다.

그리고 전군에게 무기를 들게 하고 성전 남쪽과 북쪽 전면에 배치하여 제단과 성전을 지키고 왕을 둘러싸게 하였다.

"But let no one enter the house of the LORD except the priests and the ministering Levites; they may enter, for they are holy. And let all the people keep the charge of the LORD.

"The Levites will surround the king, each man with his weapons in his hand; and whoever enters the house, let him be killed. Thus be with the king when he comes in and when he goes out."

So the Levites and all Judah did according to all that Jehoiada the priest commanded. And each one of them took his men who were to come in on the sabbath, with those who were to go out on the sabbath, for Jehoiada the priest did not dismiss any of the divisions.

Then Jehoiada the priest gave to the captains of hundreds the spears and the large and small shields which had been King David's, which were in the house of God.

He stationed all the people, each man with his weapon in his hand, from the right side of the house to the left side of the house, by the altar and by the house, around the king.

그런 다음 왕세자를 나오게 하고는 면류관을 얹고 율법책을 주고 그를 왕으로 삼았다. 여호야다는 그의 아들들과 함께 그에게 기름을 붓고는 "임금님 만세!" 하고 외쳤다.

아달리야가 백성들이 기뻐 뛰며 왕을 찬양하는 소리를 듣고 백성들이 모인 야훼의 성전에 나가보니,

왕이 군지휘관들과 나팔수들의 호위를 받으며 문 어귀 기둥 곁에 서 있고, 지방민들이 기뻐하는 가운데 나팔 소리 울려 퍼지며 합창대는 악기에 맞추어 노래를 부르고 있지 않는가! 아달리야는 옷을 찢으며 "반역이다, 반역이다!" 하고 외쳤다.

그러자 사제 여호야다가 군대를 거느린 백인대장들에게 명령하였다. "저 계집을 밖으로 끌어내다가 칼로 쳐죽여라. 따르는 자가 있거든 함께 쳐죽여라." 사제 여호야다는 그 여자를 야훼의 성전 안에서 죽여서는 안 된다고 생각했던 것이다.

사람들은 그 여자를 왕궁으로 끌어내어 군마 출입문 부근에서 죽였다.

Then they brought out the king's son and put the crown on him, and gave him the testimony and made him king And Jehoiada and his sons anointed him and said, "Long live the king!"

When Athaliah heard the noise of the people running and praising the king, she came into the house of the LORD to the people.

She looked, and behold, the king was standing by his pillar at the entrance, and the captains and the trumpeters were beside the king. And all the people of the land rejoiced and blew trumpets, the singers with their musical instruments leading the praise. Then Athaliah tore her clothes and said, "Treason! Treason!"

Jehoiada the priest brought out the captains of hundreds who were appointed over the army and said to them, "Bring her out between the ranks; and whoever follows her, put to death with the sword." For the priest said, "Let her not be put to death in the house of the LORD."

So they seized her, and when she arrived at the entrance of the Horse Gate of the king's house, they put her to death there.

그런 다음 여호야다는 야훼와 온 백성과 왕 사이에 계약을 맺어 야훼의 백성이 되기로 하였다.

온 백성이 바알의 신전으로 가서 거기에 있는 제단들을 헐고 우상들을 부수고 바알의 사제 마딴을 그 제단 앞에서 죽였다.

그리고 나서 여호야다는 야훼의 성전 일을 다윗이 했던 대로 레위인 사제들에게 맡겼다. 다윗은 야훼의 성전을 그들에게 맡겨 모세의 법에 기록되어 있는 대로 기뻐 노래하며 야훼께 번제를 드리도록 손수 절차를 제정해 주었던 것이다.

또 야훼의 성전 문마다 문지기들을 세워 부정탄 사람은 아무도 들어가지 못하게 하였다.

그리고는 백인대장들과 귀족들과 공직을 맡은 사람들과 온 지방민들을 거느리고 야훼의 성전에서 왕을 모시고 윗대문 가운데 칸을 지나 대궐로 내려가 용상에 모셨다.

Then Jehoiada made a covenant between himself and all the people and the king, that they would be the LORD'S people.

And all the people went to the house of Baal and tore it down, and they broke in pieces his altars and his images, and killed Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars.

Moreover, Jehoiada placed the offices of the house of the LORD under the authority of the Levitical priests, whom David had assigned over the house of the LORD, to offer the burnt offerings of the LORD, as it is written in the law of Moses--with rejoicing and singing according to the order of David.

He stationed the gatekeepers of the house of the LORD, so that no one would enter who was in any way unclean.

He took the captains of hundreds, the nobles, the rulers of the people and all the people of the land, and brought the king down from the house of the LORD, and came through the upper gate to the king's house. And they placed the king upon the royal throne.

지방민들은 모두 기뻐하는데, 서울은 잠잠하기만 하였다. 아달리야는 칼에 맞아 죽었다.

So all of the people of the land rejoiced and the city was quiet. For they had put Athaliah to death with the sword.
