- 다리우스 황제의 어명을 받들어 그 곳 바빌론 나라 문서고에 보관되어 있는 황실 실록을 조사하다가,
- 메대 도에 있는 요새 도시 아흐므다에서 두루마리 하나를 찾았는데 거기에 아래와 같은 비망기가 적혀 있었다.
- "고레스 황제 제일년에 황제 폐하께서는 예루살렘 신전을 두고 다음과 같은 칙령을 내리시다. '그 신전을 다시 세우고 거기에서 제물을 잡아 살라 바치도록 하여라. 신전은 높이도 육십 자, 나비도 육십 자로 하여라.
- 돌을 세 겹으로 쌓아 올리고 나무를 한 겹 대는데, 그 비용은 국고에서 지불하도록 하여라.
- 그뿐 아니라 느부갓네살이 예루살렘 신전 본관에서 바빌론으로 가져온 신전의 금은 기구들을 되돌려주어라. 모두 예루살렘 신전 본관 제자리에 가져다 두도록 하여라.'"

- Then King Darius issued a decree, and search was made in the archives, where the treasures were stored in Babylon.
- In Ecbatana in the fortress, which is in the province of Media, a scroll was found and there was written in it as follows: "Memorandum--
- "In the first year of King Cyrus, Cyrus the king issued a decree: 'Concerning the house of God at Jerusalem, let the temple, the place where sacrifices are offered, be rebuilt and let its foundations be retained, its height being 60 cubits and its width 60 cubits;
- with three layers of huge stones and one layer of timbers. And let the cost be paid from the royal treasury.
- 'Also let the gold and silver utensils of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took from the temple in Jerusalem and brought to Babylon, be returned and brought to their places in the temple in Jerusalem; and you shall put them in the house of God.'

- 이것을 보고 다리우스 황제는 아래와 같은 영을 내렸다. "이제 유프라테스 서부 지방 다뜨내 총독과 스달보즈내와 동료 관리들과 유프라테스 서부 지방에 있는 아바르사인들은

- 유다 장로들이 그 신전을 짓는 일을 경들은 도와야 한다. 나 이제 그 일을 아래와 같이 지시하는 바이다. '유프라테스 서부 지방에서 세금으로 거두어들인 국고금에서 그 비용을 모자라지 않게 제때 제때에 지불하도록 하여라.
- 그 밖에 무엇이든지 필요한 것이 있으면 대어주도록 하여라. 예루살렘 사제들이 하늘을 내신 하느님께 소와 숫양과 어린 양을 번제로 드리고 밀가루와 소금과 술과 기름을 곁들여 바쳐야 하겠다고 하거든 얼마든지 요구하는 대로 날마다 어김없이 대어주어라.
- 그것을 제물로 바치어 하늘을 내신 신의 마음을 기쁘게 해드리며 짐과 황실에 복을 빌게 하여라.'

- "Now therefore, Tattenai, governor of the province beyond the River, Shethar-bozenai and your colleagues, the officials of the provinces beyond the River, keep away from there.
- "Leave this work on the house of God alone; let the governor of the Jews and the elders of the Jews rebuild this house of God on its site.
- "Moreover, I issue a decree concerning what you are to do for these elders of Judah in the rebuilding of this house of God: the full cost is to be paid to these people from the royal treasury out of the taxes of the provinces beyond the River, and that without delay.
- "Whatever is needed, both young bulls, rams, and lambs for a burnt offering to the God of heaven, and wheat, salt, wine and anointing oil, as the priests in Jerusalem request, it is to be given to them daily without fail,
- that they may offer acceptable sacrifices to the God of heaven and pray for the life of the king and his sons.

- 또 다음과 같이 지시를 내린다. '이 칙령을 어기는 자는 누구든지 그 집 들보를 빼내어 세우고 거기에 매달아 죽이리라. 그 죗값으로 그 집을 거름더미로 만들어버리리라.
- 어떤 왕이나 어떤 민족이든지 이 칙령을 어기고 예루살렘 신전을 허물면, 당신의 이름을 거기에 붙이신 신에게 멸망을 받을 줄 알아라.' 나 다리우스가 이 칙령을 내리는 바이니 어김없이 시행하도록 하여라."
- 유프라테스 서부 지방 다뜨내 총독과 스달보즈내와 동료 관리들은 다리우스 황제에게 받은 지시를 어김없이 시행하였다.
- 유다 장로들은 예언자 하깨와 이또의 아들 예언자 즈가리야의 격려를 받아가며 순조로이 공사를 진행시켜 마침내 이스라엘 하느님의 명령을 따라, 고레스와 다리우스의 칙령대로 일을 마칠 수 있었다.
- 일이 끝난 것은 다리우스 황제 제육년 아달월 삼일이었다.

- "And I issued a decree that any man who violates this edict, a timber shall be drawn from his house and he shall be impaled on it and his house shall be made a refuse heap on account of this.
- "May the God who has caused His name to dwell there overthrow any king or people who attempts to change it, so as to destroy this house of God in Jerusalem. I, Darius, have issued this decree, let it be carried out with all diligence!"
- Then Tattenai, the governor of the province beyond the River, Shethar-bozenai and their colleagues carried out the decree with all diligence, just as King Darius had sent.
- And the elders of the Jews were successful in building through the prophesying of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo And they finished building according to the command of the God of Israel and the decree of Cyrus, Darius, and Artaxerxes king of Persia.
- This temple was completed on the third day of the month Adar; it was the sixth year of the reign of King Darius.

- 사제들과 레위인들, 사로잡혀 갔다가 돌아온 일반인, 이렇게 온 이스라엘 백성은 기뻐하며 하느님의 성전 봉헌 예배를 올렸다.
- 이 하느님의 성전 봉헌 예배에 소 백 마리, 숫양 이백 마리, 어린 양 사백 마리를 바치고 온 이스라엘의 속죄제물로서 이스라엘 지파 수대로 숫염소 열두 마리를 바쳤다.
- 또 모세의 책에 기록되어 있는 대로 반열을 따라 사제를 세우고 반을 따라 레위인을 세워 예루살렘에서 하느님을 섬기게 하였다.
- 풀려 돌아온 사람들은 정월 십사일에 과월절을 지켰다.
- 모든 사제들과 레위인들이 일제히 목욕재계하여 몸을 깨끗이 한 다음 풀려 돌아온 모든 백성과 동료 사제들과 함께 먹을 과월절 제물을 잡으니,

- And the sons of Israel, the priests, the Levites and the rest of the exiles, celebrated the dedication of this house of God with joy.
- They offered for the dedication of this temple of God 100 bulls, 200 rams, 400 lambs, and as a sin offering for all Israel 12 male goats, corresponding to the number of the tribes of Israel.
- Then they appointed the priests to their divisions and the Levites in their orders for the service of God in Jerusalem, as it is written in the book of Moses.
- The exiles observed the Passover on the fourteenth of the first month.
- For the priests and the Levites had purified themselves together; all of them were pure Then they slaughtered the Passover lamb for all the exiles, both for their brothers the priests and for themselves.

- 사로잡혀 갔다가 돌아온 이스라엘 백성도 먹고, 이 땅에 사는 다른 민족들과 같이 지내며 탄 부정을 스스로 떨쳐버리고 이스라엘의 하느님 야훼를 같이 찾게 된 사람들도 모두 함께 먹었다.
- 그리고 이레 동안 기뻐하며 무교절 축제를 지냈다. 이스라엘의 하느님 야훼께서 다리우스 황제의 마음을 돌리셨으므로 용기를 얻어 당신의 성전을 짓게 된 일이 마냥 즐거웠던 것이다.
