- 여러분은 우리를 그리스도의 일꾼으로 여기며 하느님의 심오한 진리를 맡은 관리인으로 생각해야 합니다.
- 관리인에게 무엇보다도 요구되는 것은 주인에 대한 충성입니다.
- 내가 여러분에게서 심판을 받든지 세상 법정에서 심판을 받든지 나는 조금도 마음을 쓰지 않습니다. 또 내가 나 자신을 심판하지도 않습니다.
- 나는 양심에 조금도 거리끼는 일이 없습니다. 그렇다고 해서 나에게 죄가 없다는 말은 아닙니다. 나를 심판하시는 분은 주님이십니다.
- 그러므로 주님께서 오실 때까지는 무슨 일이나 미리 앞질러 심판해서는 안 됩니다. 주님께서 오시면 어둠 속에 감추어진 것을 밝혀내시고 사람의 마음속 생각을 드러내실 것입니다. 그 때에는 각 사람이 하느님께로부터 응분의 칭찬을 받게 될 것입니다.

- Let a man regard us in this manner, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.
- In this case, moreover, it is required of stewards that one be found trustworthy.
- But to me it is a very small thing that I may be examined by you, or by any human court; in fact, I do not even examine myself.
- For I am conscious of nothing against myself, yet I am not by this acquitted; but the one who examines me is the Lord.

- 형제 여러분, 나는 여러분을 위하여 지금까지 이 모든 일을 아폴로와 나의 경우를 들어서 설명했습니다. 그것은 여러분이 우리를 본받아 "한계를 넘지 말라."는 교훈을 배워 남을 깔보고 주제넘게 자기 편을 추겨올리는 일이 없도록 하려는 것이었습니다.
- 도대체 누가 여러분을 남보다 낫다고 보아줍니까? 여러분이 가지고 있는 것은 모두 하느님께로부터 받은 것이 아닙니까? 이렇게 다 받은 것인데 왜 받은 것이 아니고 자기의 것인양 자랑합니까?
- 여러분은 벌써 배가 불렀습니다. 벌써 부자가 되었습니다. 우리를 제쳐놓고 벌써 왕이 되었습니다. 여러분이 정말 왕이었으면 좋겠습니다. 그러면 여러분과 함께 우리도 한번 왕노릇을 해볼 것이 아닙니까?
- 내 생각에는 하느님께서 우리 사도들을 사형 선고를 받은 사람들처럼 여기시고, 그들 중에서도 맨 끝자리에 내세워 세상과 천사들과 뭇 사람의 구경거리가 되게 하신 것 같습니다.
- 우리는 그리스도를 위하여 바보가 되었고 여러분은 그리스도를 믿어 현명한 사람이 되었습니다. 우리는 약자이고 여러분은 강자입니다. 여러분은 명예를 누리고 있는데 우리는 멸시만 받습니다.

- Now these things, brethren, I have figuratively applied to myself and Apollos for your sakes, so that in us you may learn not to exceed what is written, so that no one of you will become arrogant in behalf of one against the other.
- For who regards you as superior? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?
- You are already filled, you have already become rich, you have become kings without us; and indeed, I wish that you had become kings so that we also might reign with you.
- For, I think, God has exhibited us apostles last of all, as men condemned to death; because we have become a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to men.
- We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are prudent in Christ; we are weak, but you are strong; you are distinguished, but we are without honor.

- 우리는 지금 이 시간에도 굶주리고 목마르고 헐벗고 매맞으며 집 없이 떠돌아 다니고 있습니다.
- 그리고 손발이 부르트도록 노동을 하고 있습니다. 그러면서 우리를 욕하는 사람을 축복해 주고 우리가 받는 박해를 참아내고
- 비방을 받을 때는 좋은 말로 대답해 줍니다. 그래서 우리는 지금도 이 세상의 쓰레기처럼 인간의 찌꺼기처럼 살고 있습니다.
- 나는 여러분을 부끄럽게 하려고 이런 말을 쓰는 것은 아닙니다. 오히려 여러분을 내 사랑하는 자녀로 생각하고 교훈하려는 것입니다.
- 여러분의 신앙 생활을 지도해 줄 교사는 얼마든지 있겠지만 아버지는 여럿이 있을 수가 없습니다. 여러분에게 복음을 전하여 그리스도 예수를 믿는 교인으로 태어나게 한 사람은 바로 나입니다.

- To this present hour we are both hungry and thirsty, and are poorly clothed, and are roughly treated, and are homeless;
- and we toil, working with our own hands; when we are reviled, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure;
- when we are slandered, we try to conciliate; we have become as the scum of the world, the dregs of all things, even until now.
- I do not write these things to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children.
- For if you were to have countless tutors in Christ, yet you would not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel.

- 그러므로 나는 여러분에게 권합니다. 나를 본받으십시오.
- 내가 디모테오를 여러분에게 보내는 것도 바로 이 때문입니다. 그는 주님을 진실하게 믿는 내 사랑하는 아들입니다. 내가 모든 교회에서 가르치고 또 실천하고 있는 그리스도 교인의 생활 원칙을 그가 여러분에게 일깨워줄 것입니다.
- 그런데 여러분 가운데는 내가 여러분에게 찾아가지 않을 것으로 생각하여 교만해진 사람들도 있는 모양입니다.
- 나는 주님의 뜻이라면 속히 여러분에게로 가서 교만해진 그 사람들의 말이 아니라 그들의 능력을 직접 알아보려고 합니다.
- 하느님의 나라는 말에 있지 않고 능력에 있으니 말입니다.

- Therefore I exhort you, be imitators of me.
- For this reason I have sent to you Timothy, who is my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, and he will remind you of my ways which are in Christ, just as I teach everywhere in every church.
- Now some have become arrogant, as though I were not coming to you.
- But I will come to you soon, if the Lord wills, and I shall find out, not the words of those who are arrogant but their power.
- For the kingdom of God does not consist in words but in power.

- 여러분은 어느 편이 더 좋겠습니까? 내가 채찍을 가지고 여러분에게 가는 것이 좋겠습니까? 그렇지 않으면 사랑과 온유한 마음을 가지고 가는 것이 좋겠습니까?
