예레미야 13:1-14:22

 하나님께서는 썩은 베띠와 포도주 병의 상징적 비유를 통하여 하나님을 떠나 죄로 가득 찬 유다에 심판이 임할 것을 경고하시며 백성들의 회개를 촉구하셨다. 그러나 백성들은 회개하지 않았고, 그로 인해 큰 가뭄이 들었으나 거짓 선지자들의 말에 미혹되어 회개하기를 거부했다. 이처럼 회개할 줄 모르는 유다를 위해 예레미야는 탄식하며 중보 기도하였다.
  
  두 가지 비유(13:1-13:27)    
 
  1. 야훼께서 나에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다. "너는 가서 모시 잠방이를 하나 사다가 허리에 걸치고 물에 적시지 않도록 하여라."
  2. 야훼께서 분부하시는 대로 나는 잠방이를 사서 허리에 걸쳤다.
  3. 그랬더니 야훼께서 또 나에게 이르셨다.
  4. "네가 사서 허리에 걸친 잠방이를 벗어들고 브랏으로 가서 바위 틈에 숨겨두어라."
  5. 나는 야훼께서 내린 분부대로 브랏으로 가서 그 잠방이를 거기에 숨겨두었다.
  1. Thus the LORD said to me, "Go and buy yourself a linen waistband and put it around your waist, but do not put it in water."
  2. So I bought the waistband in accordance with the word of the LORD and put it around my waist.
  3. Then the word of the LORD came to me a second time, saying,
  4. "Take the waistband that you have bought, which is around your waist, and arise, go to the Euphrates and hide it there in a crevice of the rock."
  5. So I went and hid it by the Euphrates, as the LORD had commanded me.
  1. 오랜 시일이 지난 다음, 야훼께서 나에게 이르셨다. "이제 떠나 브랏으로 가서 내가 시킨 대로 숨겨두었던 잠방이를 가져오너라."
  2. 나는 브랏으로 가서 숨겨두었던 자리를 파고 잠방이를 꺼내보았더니, 그 잠방이는 썩어서 아무 쓸모가 없게 되었다.
  3. 그 때 야훼께서 나에게 이르셨다.
  4. "나 야훼가 말한다. 나는 그와 같이 유다의 거만과 예루살렘의 엄청난 거만을 꺾어버리겠다.
  5. 이 몹쓸 민족은 나의 말을 듣지 않았다. 저희의 악한 생각을 굽히지 않고 멋대로 살아왔다. 다른 신들을 따라다니며 섬기고 예배하였다. 그래서 이 백성은 잠방이처럼 되어 아무 쓸모도 없게 될 것이다.
  1. After many days the LORD said to me, "Arise, go to the Euphrates and take from there the waistband which I commanded you to hide there."
  2. Then I went to the Euphrates and dug, and I took the waistband from the place where I had hidden it; and lo, the waistband was ruined, it was totally worthless.
  3. Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
  4. "Thus says the LORD, 'Just so will I destroy the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem.
  5. 'This wicked people, who refuse to listen to My words, who walk in the stubbornness of their hearts and have gone after other gods to serve them and to bow down to them, let them be just like this waistband which is totally worthless.
  1. 허리에 잠방이를 단단히 걸치듯이 나는 이스라엘의 온 가문과 유다의 온 가문을 나에게 꼭 매어두려고 했었다. 내 말이니 잘 들어라. 그렇게 되었다면 이 백성은 내 백성이 되었을 것이다. 그리하여 나의 이름을 빛내고 나에게 영광과 영화가 돌아오게 하였을 터인데, 그렇게 하지 아니하고 나의 말을 듣지 않았다.
  2. 너는 이 백성에게 이렇게 일러주어라. 이 야훼가 이스라엘의 하느님으로서 말한다. 모든 술독은 술을 넣어두기 위하여 만든 것이다.' 그러면 이 백성은 '술독이 술을 넣어두는 것임을 누가 모르느냐?'고 대답할 것이다.
  3. 그러거든, '야훼의 말씀이다.' 하고 이렇게 일러주어라. '나는 이제 이 땅에 사는 모든 사람들을, 다윗의 왕위를 잇는 왕들이건, 사제들이건, 예언자들이건, 예루살렘 주민이건 모두 다 술독으로 만들어버리겠다. 그러면 모두 술에 취하여 비틀거리며
  4. 아비 아들 할 것 없이 서로 부딪쳐 깨어지리라. 내 말이니, 잘 들어라. 나는 사정없이 용서하지 않고 모두 멸하여 버리리라.'"
  5. 야훼께서 말씀하시는 것이니, 거만을 떨지 말고 귀기울여 잘 들어라.
  1. 'For as the waistband clings to the waist of a man, so I made the whole household of Israel and the whole household of Judah cling to Me,' declares the LORD, 'that they might be for Me a people, for renown, for praise and for glory; but they did not listen.'
  2. "Therefore you are to speak this word to them, 'Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, "Every jug is to be filled with wine."' And when they say to you, 'Do we not very well know that every jug is to be filled with wine?'
  3. then say to them, 'Thus says the LORD, "Behold I am about to fill all the inhabitants of this land--the kings that sit for David on his throne, the priests, the prophets and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem--with drunkenness!
  4. "I will dash them against each other, both the fathers and the sons together," declares the LORD "I will not show pity nor be sorry nor have compassion so as not to destroy them."'"
  5. Listen and give heed, do not be haughty, For the LORD has spoken.
  1. 날이 저물어 어두워져 가는 언덕 위에서 서로 걸려 넘어지기 전에 너희 하느님 야훼께 영광을 돌려라. 너희가 바라는 것은 빛이지만, 야훼께서는 너희 세상을 어둡고 캄캄하게 만드시리라.
  2. 건방진 생각이 들어 이 말을 듣지 않으면 나는 남몰래 가슴이 메어 울 것이다. 야훼의 양떼가 포로로 끌려가는 것을 보며 눈물을 쏟을 것이다.
  3. "왕과 왕비에게 옥좌에서 내려앉으라고 일러라. 그 찬란한 면류관이 머리에서 벗겨지게 되었다.
  4. 네겝의 성읍들이 포위되었으나 와서 구해 주는 손길이 없어 유다인들은 모두 사로잡혀 갔다. 하나도 남지 않고 끌려가고 말았다.
  5. 고개를 들고 보아라. 예루살렘 시민들아, 원수들이 북쪽에서 쳐들어온다. 네가 맡아 기르던 양떼는 어디로 갔느냐? 양떼처럼 보기 좋던 너희 백성은 어디로 갔느냐?
  1. Give glory to the LORD your God, Before He brings darkness And before your feet stumble On the dusky mountains, And while you are hoping for light He makes it into deep darkness, And turns it into gloom.
  2. But if you will not listen to it, My soul will sob in secret for such pride; And my eyes will bitterly weep And flow down with tears, Because the flock of the LORD has been taken captive.
  3. Say to the king and the queen mother, "Take a lowly seat, For your beautiful crown Has come down from your head."
  4. The cities of the Negev have been locked up, And there is no one to open them; All Judah has been carried into exile, Wholly carried into exile.
  5. "Lift up your eyes and see Those coming from the north Where is the flock that was given you, Your beautiful sheep?
  1. 너희가 손수 길들인 애인들을 너희의 상전으로 세워줄 터이다. 그렇게 되면 기분이 어떻겠느냐? 몸푸는 여인처럼 몸을 비틀며 배가 아프지 않겠느냐?
  2. 어쩌다가 이런 꼴을 당하였는지 알고 싶으냐? 어쩌다가 치마를 벗기고 강간을 당하였는지 알고 싶으냐? 너희 죄가 너무 많아서 그렇게 된 것이다.
  3. 에티오피아 사람들이 제 피부색을 바꿀 수 있겠느냐? 표범이 제 가죽에 박힌 점을 없앨 수 있겠느냐? 그렇다면 악에 젖은 너희도 좋은 사람이 될 수 있으리라.
  4. 나는 사막에서 불어오는 바람으로 너희를 검불처럼 흩뜨려 버리리라.
  5. 너희는 나를 잊고, 허수아비를 믿었다. 내 말이니, 잘 들어라. 너희가 이런 액운을 당하게 되는 것은 그 때문이다. 나는 너희에게 이런 운명밖에 줄 것이 없다.
  1. "What will you say when He appoints over you-- And you yourself had taught them-- Former companions to be head over you? Will not pangs take hold of you Like a woman in childbirth?
  2. "If you say in your heart, 'Why have these things happened to me?' Because of the magnitude of your iniquity Your skirts have been removed And your heels have been exposed.
  3. "Can the Ethiopian change his skin Or the leopard his spots? Then you also can do good Who are accustomed to doing evil.
  4. "Therefore I will scatter them like drifting straw To the desert wind.
  5. "This is your lot, the portion measured to you From Me," declares the LORD, "Because you have forgotten Me And trusted in falsehood.
  1. 나는 너희 치마를 벗겨 창피를 당하게 하리라.
  2. 너희가 간음하며 지르는 소리를 나는 들었다. 추잡하게 음란 피우는 꼴도 보았다. 언덕과 들에서 역겨운 우상을 받드는 것을 나는 보았다. 너는 이제 망하였다. 예루살렘아, 이 부정한 것아, 언제까지 이 모양으로 있으려느냐?"
  1. "So I Myself have also stripped your skirts off over your face, That your shame may be seen.
  2. "As for your adulteries and your lustful neighings, The lewdness of your prostitution On the hills in the field, I have seen your abominations Woe to you, O Jerusalem! How long will you remain unclean?"
 
  재앙과 중보 기도(14:1-14:22)    
 
  1. 야훼께서는 기근을 내리시고 그 까닭을 예레미야에게 밝혀주셨다.
  2. "유다 백성은 모두 이 성문 저 성문에 모여 풀이 죽어 통곡하고 있다. 예루살렘 시민들이 땅에 주저앉아 울부짖는 소리가 들려온다.
  3. 세도가는 머슴들을 시켜 물을 길어다 먹으려고 하지만, 이 우물 저 우물을 찾아다녀도 물은 마르고 머슴들은 상전을 볼 낯이 없어 빈병 들고 고개 떨어뜨린 채 돌아온다.
  4. 온 나라 어디에도 비가 내리지 않아, 땅이 갈라지니, 농부들은 기가 막혀 땅이 꺼지게 한숨만 쉴 뿐.
  5. 들사슴은 새끼에게 뜯길 풀이 없어 낳아서 그대로 내버리는 형편이요,
  1. That which came as the word of the LORD to Jeremiah in regard to the drought:
  2. "Judah mourns And her gates languish; They sit on the ground in mourning, And the cry of Jerusalem has ascended.
  3. "Their nobles have sent their servants for water; They have come to the cisterns and found no water They have returned with their vessels empty; They have been put to shame and humiliated, And they cover their heads.
  4. "Because the ground is cracked, For there has been no rain on the land; The farmers have been put to shame, They have covered their heads.
  5. "For even the doe in the field has given birth only to abandon her young, Because there is no grass.
  1. 노새들은 언덕 위에 올라서서 여우처럼 숨이 가빠 헐떡이며 뜯을 풀이 없어 눈이 다 흐려졌다."
  2. "그렇게 죄를 짓고 우리 어찌 벌을 면할 수 있겠습니까마는, 야훼여, 주님의 이름에 욕이 돌아가지는 않아야 하지 않겠습니까? 우리는 주님을 배반하고 또 배반하여 죄를 얻었습니다.
  3. 이스라엘이 믿고 바라는 이여, 어려울 때 이스라엘을 구해 주시는 이여, 어찌하여 이 땅에서 나그네처럼 행하십니까? 하룻밤 묵으러 들른 길손처럼 행하십니까?
  4. 어찌하여 갑자기 뒤통수를 얻어맞은 사람처럼 되셨습니까? 제 나라도 구하지 못하는 장군처럼 되셨습니까? 야훼여, 주께서는 우리 가운데 계시는 분, 우리는 주의 이름으로 불리는 백성이 아닙니까? 그러니 우리를 저버리지 마십시오."
  5. 내 말이니 잘 들어라. 이 백성은 나에게 마음을 붙이지 못하고 사방으로 쏘다니기 좋아하는 것들이라 보기도 싫다. 그래서 이제 그 죄를 잊지 않고, 벌하기로 하였다.
  1. "The wild donkeys stand on the bare heights; They pant for air like jackals, Their eyes fail For there is no vegetation.
  2. "Although our iniquities testify against us, O LORD, act for Your name's sake! Truly our apostasies have been many, We have sinned against You.
  3. "O Hope of Israel, Its Savior in time of distress, Why are You like a stranger in the land Or like a traveler who has pitched his tent for the night?
  4. "Why are You like a man dismayed, Like a mighty man who cannot save? Yet You are in our midst, O LORD, And we are called by Your name; Do not forsake us!"
  5. Thus says the LORD to this people, "Even so they have loved to wander; they have not kept their feet in check Therefore the LORD does not accept them; now He will remember their iniquity and call their sins to account."
  1. 야훼께서 나에게 말씀하셨다. "너는 이 백성을 너그럽게 보아달라고 나에게 빌지 마라.
  2. 단식하며 아우성을 친다마는 나는 그 소리를 들어주지 않겠다. 번제물과 곡식예물을 바친다마는 받아주지 않겠다. 나는 도리어 적을 끌어들이고 기근과 염병을 내려 이 백성을 모조리 죽이리라."
  3. "그렇지만 주 야훼님, 예언자들은 주의 말씀이라면서 이렇게 말합니다. '나는 너희를 여기에서 평화롭게 살게 하여주었다. 그러니 적이 쳐들어오지도 않고, 기근이 들지도 않으리라.'"
  4. 야훼께서 나에게 말씀하셨다. "그 예언자들은 내 이름을 팔아서 거짓말을 하였다. 나는 그런 말을 한 적이 없다. 그런 말을 하라고 예언자들을 보낸 적도 없다. 그것들은 엉뚱한 것을 보고, 허황한 점이나 치고, 제 욕망에서 솟는 생각을 가지고 내 말이라고 전하는 것들이다.
  5. 나 야훼가 말한다. 내가 보내지도 않았는데 내 이름을 팔아서 예언하는 자들을 어떻게 할지 말하여 주겠다. '이 땅에는 적군이 쳐들어오지도 않고 기근도 들지 않는다.'고 하는 그 예언자들은 칼에 맞아 죽고 굶어 죽으리라.
  1. So the LORD said to me, "Do not pray for the welfare of this people.
  2. "When they fast, I am not going to listen to their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and grain offering, I am not going to accept them Rather I am going to make an end of them by the sword, famine and pestilence."
  3. But, "Ah, Lord GOD!" I said, "Look, the prophets are telling them, 'You will not see the sword nor will you have famine, but I will give you lasting peace in this place.'"
  4. Then the LORD said to me, "The prophets are prophesying falsehood in My name I have neither sent them nor commanded them nor spoken to them; they are prophesying to you a false vision, divination, futility and the deception of their own minds.
  5. "Therefore thus says the LORD concerning the prophets who are prophesying in My name, although it was not I who sent them--yet they keep saying, 'There will be no sword or famine in this land'--by sword and famine those prophets shall meet their end!
  1. 그 예언자들의 말을 듣다가 굶어 죽고 칼에 맞아 죽은 백성들의 시체가 예루살렘 거리에 널려 있어도 묻어줄 사람이 없으리라. 그 아내와 아들딸도 똑같은 신세가 되리라. 이 백성이 그렇게도 죄를 지었는데 어찌 벌하지 않고 그냥 두겠느냐?
  2. 너는 이런 말을 백성에게 일러주어라. '내 눈에서는 밤낮으로 눈물이 흘러 울음을 그칠 수가 없구나. 처녀 같은 내 딸, 이 백성이 심하게 얻어맞아 치명상을 입었다.
  3. 들에 나가보면 칼에 맞아 죽은 사람들뿐이요, 성 안에 들어와 보면, 굶어서 병든 사람들뿐, 예언자들이나 사제들은 알지도 못하는 나라에 끌려들 가는구나.'"
  4. "유다 백성을 아주 저버리셨습니까? 시온은 싫증이 나셨습니까? 어찌하여 우리를 죽도록 치셨습니까? 평화가 오리라고 기다렸더니, 좋은 일 하나 없군요. 행여나 병이 나을 때가 있을까 하고 기다렸더니, 무서운 일만 당하게 되었군요.
  5. 야훼여, 우리는 스스로 어떤 못할 일을 하였는지 잘 압니다. 우리 조상들이 어떤 몹쓸 짓을 하였는지도 잘 압니다. 우리는 바로 주께 죄를 지었습니다.
  1. "The people also to whom they are prophesying will be thrown out into the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and there will be no one to bury them--neither them, nor their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters--for I will pour out their own wickedness on them.
  2. "You will say this word to them, 'Let my eyes flow down with tears night and day, And let them not cease; For the virgin daughter of my people has been crushed with a mighty blow, With a sorely infected wound.
  3. 'If I go out to the country, Behold, those slain with the sword! Or if I enter the city, Behold, diseases of famine! For both prophet and priest Have gone roving about in the land that they do not know.'"
  4. Have You completely rejected Judah? Or have You loathed Zion? Why have You stricken us so that we are beyond healing? We waited for peace, but nothing good came; And for a time of healing, but behold, terror!
  5. We know our wickedness, O LORD, The iniquity of our fathers, for we have sinned against You.
  1. 그러나 주님의 명성을 생각하셔서라도 우리를 천대하시지는 마십시오. 주님의 영광스러운 옥좌를 멸시하시지 마십시오. 우리와 맺으신 계약을 마음에 두시고 깨뜨리지 말아주십시오.
  2. 다른 민족들이 받드는 허수아비들 가운데 비를 내려줄 신이 있습니까? 그렇다고 하늘이 단비를 내려줄 수 있습니까? 야훼말고 비를 내릴 수 있습니까? 그것을 다 하실 수 있는 분은 야훼뿐이시기에 우리는 우리 하느님만 바랍니다."
  1. Do not despise us, for Your own name's sake; Do not disgrace the throne of Your glory; Remember and do not annul Your covenant with us.
  2. Are there any among the idols of the nations who give rain? Or can the heavens grant showers? Is it not You, O LORD our God? Therefore we hope in You, For You are the one who has done all these things.
