열왕기상

본서는 솔로몬의 통치와 분열 왕국 이후의 초기 약 80여 년 간의 역사를 통하여, 선민 이스라엘의 흥망 성쇠는 하나님의 말씀에 대한 백성들과 왕들의 순종과 불순종에 있음을 보여 주고 있다.

1장부터 11장까지는 솔로몬의 행적을 기록하고 있는데, 특히 그의 지혜와 성전 건축과 아울러 이방 왕비들로 말미암아 우상을 숭배하여 이스라엘 왕국을 분열시킨 행적이 언급되어 있다. 12장부터 22장까지는 통일 왕국 이스라엘의 분열 경위를 기록한 후, 분열된 북이스라엘과 남유다의 정치적, 영적 타락 사건들을 보여 주고 있다. 특히, 바알 종교를 숭배한 북이스라엘 왕국의 왕 아합과 선지자 엘리야의 사역이 주로 전개되고 있다.

	열왕기상 1:1-1:53 다윗이 늙자 아도니야는 왕위를 찬탈하려고 음모를 꾸몄다. 이를 미리 안 나단은 밧세바를 통해 다윗에게 사건의 진상을 알리고 하나님의 뜻을 상기시킴으로써 아도니야의 음모를 수포로 돌아가게 하였다. 이로써 솔로몬이 다윗을 이어 이스라엘의 왕으로 등극하였다.

	아도니야의 음모(1:1-1:31)

다윗 왕이 나이가 많아 늙으니 이불을 덮어도 따뜻하지 아니한지라

그의 시종들이 왕께 아뢰되 우리 주 왕을 위하여 젊은 처녀 하나를 구하여 그로 왕을 받들어 모시게 하고 왕의 품에 누워 우리 주 왕으로 따뜻하시게 하리이다 하고

이스라엘 사방 영토 내에 아리따운 처녀를 구하던 중 수넴 여자 아비삭을 얻어 왕께 데려왔으니

이 처녀는 심히 아름다워 그가 왕을 받들어 시중들었으나 왕이 잠자리는 같이 하지 아니하였더라

그 때에 학깃의 아들 아도니야가 스스로 높여서 이르기를 내가 왕이 되리라 하고 자기를 위하여 병거와 기병과 호위병 오십 명을 준비하니

Now King David was old, advanced in age; and they covered him with clothes, but he could not keep warm.

So his servants said to him, "Let them seek a young virgin for my lord the king, and let her attend the king and become his nurse; and let her lie in your bosom, that my lord the king may keep warm."

So they searched for a beautiful girl throughout all the territory of Israel, and found Abishag the Shunammite, and brought her to the king.

The girl was very beautiful; and she became the king's nurse and served him, but the king did not cohabit with her.

Now Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, "I will be king " So he prepared for himself chariots and horsemen with fifty men to run before him.

그는 압살롬 다음에 태어난 자요 용모가 심히 준수한 자라 그의 아버지가 네가 어찌하여 그리 하였느냐고 하는 말로 한 번도 그를 섭섭하게 한 일이 없었더라

아도니야가 스루야의 아들 요압과 제사장 아비아달과 모의하니 그들이 따르고 도우나

제사장 사독과 여호야다의 아들 브나야와 선지자 나단과 시므이와 레이와 다윗의 용사들은 아도니야와 같이 하지 아니하였더라

아도니야가 에느로겔 근방 소헬렛 바위 곁에서 양과 소와 살찐 송아지를 잡고 왕자 곧 자기의 모든 동생과 왕의 신하 된 유다 모든 사람을 다 청하였으나

선지자 나단과 브나야와 용사들과 자기 동생 솔로몬은 청하지 아니하였더라

His father had never crossed him at any time by asking, "Why have you done so?" And he was also a very handsome man, and he was born after Absalom.

He had conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah and with Abiathar the priest; and following Adonijah they helped him.

But Zadok the priest, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, Nathan the prophet, Shimei, Rei, and the mighty men who belonged to David, were not with Adonijah.

Adonijah sacrificed sheep and oxen and fatlings by the stone of Zoheleth, which is beside En-rogel; and he invited all his brothers, the king's sons, and all the men of Judah, the king's servants.

But he did not invite Nathan the prophet, Benaiah, the mighty men, and Solomon his brother.

나단이 솔로몬의 어머니 밧세바에게 말하여 이르되 학깃의 아들 아도니야가 왕이 되었음을 듣지 못하였나이까 우리 주 다윗은 알지 못하시나이다

이제 내게 당신의 생명과 당신의 아들 솔로몬의 생명을 구할 계책을 말하도록 허락하소서

당신은 다윗 왕 앞에 들어가서 아뢰기를 내 주 왕이여 전에 왕이 여종에게 맹세하여 이르시기를 네 아들 솔로몬이 반드시 나를 이어 왕이 되어 내 왕위에 앉으리라 하지 아니하셨나이까 그런데 아도니야가 무슨 이유로 왕이 되었나이까 하소서

당신이 거기서 왕과 말씀하실 때에 나도 뒤이어 들어가서 당신의 말씀을 확증하리이다

밧세바가 이에 침실에 들어가 왕에게 이르니 왕이 심히 늙었으므로 수넴 여자 아비삭이 시중들었더라

Then Nathan spoke to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, saying, "Have you not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith has become king, and David our lord does not know it?

"So now come, please let me give you counsel and save your life and the life of your son Solomon.

"Go at once to King David and say to him, 'Have you not, my lord, O king, sworn to your maidservant, saying, "Surely Solomon your son shall be king after me, and he shall sit on my throne"? Why then has Adonijah become king?'

"Behold, while you are still there speaking with the king, I will come in after you and confirm your words."

So Bathsheba went in to the king in the bedroom. Now the king was very old, and Abishag the Shunammite was ministering to the king.

밧세바가 몸을 굽혀 왕께 절하니 왕이 이르되 어찌 됨이냐

그가 왕께 대답하되 내 주여 왕이 전에 왕의 하나님 여호와를 가리켜 여종에게 맹세하시기를 네 아들 솔로몬이 반드시 나를 이어 왕이 되어 내 왕위에 앉으리라 하셨거늘

이제 아도니야가 왕이 되었어도 내 주 왕은 알지 못하시나이다

그가 수소와 살찐 송아지와 양을 많이 잡고 왕의 모든 아들과 제사장 아비아달과 군사령관 요압을 청하였으나 왕의 종 솔로몬은 청하지 아니하였나이다

내 주 왕이여 온 이스라엘이 왕에게 다 주목하고 누가 내 주 왕을 이어 그 왕위에 앉을지를 공포하시기를 기다리나이다

Then Bathsheba bowed and prostrated herself before the king. And the king said, "What do you wish?"

She said to him, "My lord, you swore to your maidservant by the LORD your God, saying, 'Surely your son Solomon shall be king after me and he shall sit on my throne.'

"Now, behold, Adonijah is king; and now, my lord the king, you do not know it.

"He has sacrificed oxen and fatlings and sheep in abundance, and has invited all the sons of the king and Abiathar the priest and Joab the commander of the army, but he has not invited Solomon your servant.

"As for you now, my lord the king, the eyes of all Israel are on you, to tell them who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.

그렇지 아니하면 내 주 왕께서 그의 조상들과 함께 잘 때에 나와 내 아들 솔로몬은 죄인이 되리이다

밧세바가 왕과 말할 때에 선지자 나단이 들어온지라

어떤 사람이 왕께 말하여 이르되 선지자 나단이 여기 있나이다 하니 그가 왕 앞에 들어와서 얼굴을 땅에 대고 왕께 절하고

이르되 내 주 왕께서 이르시기를 아도니야가 나를 이어 왕이 되어 내 왕위에 앉으리라 하셨나이까

그가 오늘 내려가서 수소와 살찐 송아지와 양을 많이 잡고 왕의 모든 아들과 군사령관들과 제사장 아비아달을 청하였는데 그들이 아도니야 앞에서 먹고 마시며 아도니야 왕은 만세수를 하옵소서 하였나이다

"Otherwise it will come about, as soon as my lord the king sleeps with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon will be considered offenders."

Behold, while she was still speaking with the king, Nathan the prophet came in.

They told the king, saying, "Here is Nathan the prophet." And when he came in before the king, he prostrated himself before the king with his face to the ground.

Then Nathan said, "My lord the king, have you said, 'Adonijah shall be king after me, and he shall sit on my throne'?

"For he has gone down today and has sacrificed oxen and fatlings and sheep in abundance, and has invited all the king's sons and the commanders of the army and Abiathar the priest, and behold, they are eating and drinking before him; and they say, 'Long live King Adonijah!'

그러나 왕의 종 나와 제사장 사독과 여호야다의 아들 브나야와 왕의 종 솔로몬은 청하지 아니하였사오니

이것이 내 주 왕께서 정하신 일이니이까 그런데 왕께서 내 주 왕을 이어 그 왕위에 앉을 자를 종에게 알게 하지 아니하셨나이다

다윗 왕이 명령하여 이르되 밧세바를 내 앞으로 부르라 하매 그가 왕의 앞으로 들어가 그 앞에 서는지라

왕이 이르되 내 생명을 모든 환난에서 구하신 여호와께서 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하노라

내가 이전에 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와를 가리켜 네게 맹세하여 이르기를 네 아들 솔로몬이 반드시 나를 이어 왕이 되고 나를 대신하여 내 왕위에 앉으리라 하였으니 내가 오늘 그대로 행하리라

"But me, even me your servant, and Zadok the priest and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada and your servant Solomon, he has not invited.

"Has this thing been done by my lord the king, and you have not shown to your servants who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?"

Then King David said, "Call Bathsheba to me." And she came into the king's presence and stood before the king.

The king vowed and said, "As the LORD lives, who has redeemed my life from all distress,

surely as I vowed to you by the LORD the God of Israel, saying, 'Your son Solomon shall be king after me, and he shall sit on my throne in my place'; I will indeed do so this day."

밧세바가 얼굴을 땅에 대고 절하며 내 주 다윗 왕은 만세수를 하옵소서 하니라

Then Bathsheba bowed with her face to the ground, and prostrated herself before the king and said, "May my lord King David live forever."

	솔로몬의 등극(1:32-1:53)

다윗 왕이 이르되 제사장 사독과 선지자 나단과 여호야다의 아들 브나야를 내 앞으로 부르라 하니 그들이 왕 앞에 이른지라

왕이 그들에게 이르되 너희는 너희 주의 신하들을 데리고 내 아들 솔로몬을 내 노새에 태우고 기혼으로 인도하여 내려가고

거기서 제사장 사독과 선지자 나단은 그에게 기름을 부어 이스라엘 왕으로 삼고 너희는 뿔나팔을 불며 솔로몬 왕은 만세수를 하옵소서 하고

그를 따라 올라오라 그가 와서 내 왕위에 앉아 나를 대신하여 왕이 되리라 내가 그를 세워 이스라엘과 유다의 통치자로 지명하였느니라

여호야다의 아들 브나야가 왕께 대답하여 이르되 아멘 내 주 왕의 하나님 여호와께서도 이렇게 말씀하시기를 원하오며

Then King David said, "Call to me Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada." And they came into the king's presence.

The king said to them, "Take with you the servants of your lord, and have my son Solomon ride on my own mule, and bring him down to Gihon.

"Let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there as king over Israel, and blow the trumpet and say, 'Long live King Solomon!'

"Then you shall come up after him, and he shall come and sit on my throne and be king in my place; for I have appointed him to be ruler over Israel and Judah."

Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king and said, "Amen! Thus may the LORD, the God of my lord the king, say.

또 여호와께서 내 주 왕과 함께 계심 같이 솔로몬과 함께 계셔서 그의 왕위를 내 주 다윗 왕의 왕위보다 더 크게 하시기를 원하나이다 하니라

제사장 사독과 선지자 나단과 여호야다의 아들 브나야와 그렛 사람과 블렛 사람이 내려가서 솔로몬을 다윗 왕의 노새에 태우고 인도하여 기혼으로 가서

제사장 사독이 성막 가운데에서 기름 담은 뿔을 가져다가 솔로몬에게 기름을 부으니 이에 뿔나팔을 불고 모든 백성이 솔로몬 왕은 만세수를 하옵소서 하니라

모든 백성이 그를 따라 올라와서 피리를 불며 크게 즐거워하므로 땅이 그들의 소리로 말미암아 갈라질 듯하니

아도니야와 그와 함께 한 손님들이 먹기를 마칠 때에 다 들은지라 요압이 뿔나팔 소리를 듣고 이르되 어찌하여 성읍 중에서 소리가 요란하냐

"As the LORD has been with my lord the king, so may He be with Solomon, and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord King David!"

So Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the Cherethites, and the Pelethites went down and had Solomon ride on King David's mule, and brought him to Gihon.

Zadok the priest then took the horn of oil from the tent and anointed Solomon Then they blew the trumpet, and all the people said, "Long live King Solomon!"

All the people went up after him, and the people were playing on flutes and rejoicing with great joy, so that the earth shook at their noise.

Now Adonijah and all the guests who were with him heard it as they finished eating. When Joab heard the sound of the trumpet, he said, "Why is the city making such an uproar?"

말할 때에 제사장 아비아달의 아들 요나단이 오는지라 아도니야가 이르되 들어오라 너는 용사라 아름다운 소식을 가져오는도다

요나단이 아도니야에게 대답하여 이르되 과연 우리 주 다윗 왕이 솔로몬을 왕으로 삼으셨나이다

왕께서 제사장 사독과 선지자 나단과 여호야다의 아들 브나야와 그렛 사람과 블렛 사람을 솔로몬과 함께 보내셨는데 그들 무리가 왕의 노새에 솔로몬을 태워다가

제사장 사독과 선지자 나단이 기혼에서 기름을 부어 왕으로 삼고 무리가 그 곳에서 올라오며 즐거워하므로 성읍이 진동하였나니 당신들에게 들린 소리가 이것이라

또 솔로몬도 왕좌에 앉아 있고

While he was still speaking, behold, Jonathan the son of Abiathar the priest came Then Adonijah said, "Come in, for you are a valiant man and bring good news."

But Jonathan replied to Adonijah, "No! Our lord King David has made Solomon king.

"The king has also sent with him Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the Cherethites, and the Pelethites; and they have made him ride on the king's mule.

"Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king in Gihon, and they have come up from there rejoicing, so that the city is in an uproar. This is the noise which you have heard.

"Besides, Solomon has even taken his seat on the throne of the kingdom.

왕의 신하들도 와서 우리 주 다윗 왕에게 축복하여 이르기를 왕의 하나님이 솔로몬의 이름을 왕의 이름보다 더 아름답게 하시고 그의 왕위를 왕의 위보다 크게 하시기를 원하나이다 하매 왕이 침상에서 몸을 굽히고

또한 이르시기를 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와를 찬송하리로다 여호와께서 오늘 내 왕위에 앉을 자를 주사 내 눈으로 보게 하셨도다 하셨나이다 하니

아도니야와 함께 한 손님들이 다 놀라 일어나 각기 갈 길로 간지라

아도니야도 솔로몬을 두려워하여 일어나 가서 제단 뿔을 잡으니

어떤 사람이 솔로몬에게 말하여 이르되 아도니야가 솔로몬 왕을 두려워하여 지금 제단 뿔을 잡고 말하기를 솔로몬 왕이 오늘 칼로 자기 종을 죽이지 않겠다고 내게 맹세하기를 원한다 하나이다

"Moreover, the king's servants came to bless our lord King David, saying, 'May your God make the name of Solomon better than your name and his throne greater than your throne!' And the king bowed himself on the bed.

"The king has also said thus, 'Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who has granted one to sit on my throne today while my own eyes see it.'"

Then all the guests of Adonijah were terrified; and they arose and each went on his way.

And Adonijah was afraid of Solomon, and he arose, went and took hold of the horns of the altar.

Now it was told Solomon, saying, "Behold, Adonijah is afraid of King Solomon, for behold, he has taken hold of the horns of the altar, saying, 'Let King Solomon swear to me today that he will not put his servant to death with the sword.'"

솔로몬이 이르되 그가 만일 선한 사람일진대 그의 머리털 하나도 땅에 떨어지지 아니하려니와 그에게 악한 것이 보이면 죽으리라 하고

사람을 보내어 그를 제단에서 이끌어 내리니 그가 와서 솔로몬 왕께 절하매 솔로몬이 이르기를 네 집으로 가라 하였더라

Solomon said, "If he is a worthy man, not one of his hairs will fall to the ground; but if wickedness is found in him, he will die."

So King Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar. And he came and prostrated himself before King Solomon, and Solomon said to him, "Go to your house."
