열왕기하

본서는 북이스라엘의 아하시야로부터 호세아까지 약 130년 간의 분열 왕국 역사와 그 후 히스기야로부터 바벨론에 멸망되기까지 150년 간의 남유다 역사를 기록하고 있다. 하나님의 언약을 거역한 이스라엘의 참담한 역사 속에서 이스라엘 민족의 흥망 성쇠는 하나님께 대한 그들의 신실함 여부에 달려 있음을 나타내고 있다.

하나님께서는 패역한 이스라엘을 향해 엘리야, 엘리사를 비롯한 많은 선지자들을 보내 회개와 심판의 메시지를 주시지만, 그들은 여전히 하나님을 거역한다. 결국 북이스라엘은 앗수르에 의해 멸망되고, 남유다도 히스기야와 요시야의 개혁에도 불구하고 시드기야 때 바벨론에게 정복당하고 만다.

	열왕기하 1:1-2:25 아하시야는 병이 나자 바알세불의 능력으로 병을 고치려 하였고, 이러한 불신앙적 행위에 하나님께서는 엘리야를 통해 죽음을 선고하셨다. 엘리야를 체포하려던 아하시야의 병사들은 심판의 불로 죽임을 당하였고, 결국 아하시야도 예언의 말씀대로 죽고 말았다. 엘리야가 승천한 후 그를 계승한 엘리사는 갑절의 능력을 받아 하나님의 사역을 시작하였다.

	엘리야와 아하시야(1:1-1:18)

아합이 죽은 후에 모압이 이스라엘을 배반하였더라

아하시야가 사마리아에 있는 그의 다락 난간에서 떨어져 병들매 사자를 보내며 그들에게 이르되 가서 에그론의 신 바알세붑에게 이 병이 낫겠나 물어 보라 하니라

여호와의 사자가 디셉 사람 엘리야에게 이르되 너는 일어나 올라가서 사마리아 왕의 사자를 만나 그에게 이르기를 이스라엘에 하나님이 없어서 너희가 에그론의 신 바알세붑에게 물으러 가느냐

그러므로 여호와의 말씀이 네가 올라간 침상에서 내려오지 못할지라 네가 반드시 죽으리라 하셨다 하라 엘리야가 이에 가니라

사자들이 왕에게 돌아오니 왕이 그들에게 이르되 너희는 어찌하여 돌아왔느냐 하니

Now Moab rebelled against Israel after the death of Ahab.

And Ahaziah fell through the lattice in his upper chamber which was in Samaria, and became ill. So he sent messengers and said to them, "Go, inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, whether I will recover from this sickness."

But the angel of the LORD said to Elijah the Tishbite, "Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria and say to them, 'Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are going to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron?'

"Now therefore thus says the LORD, 'You shall not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but you shall surely die.'" Then Elijah departed.

When the messengers returned to him he said to them, "Why have you returned?"

그들이 말하되 한 사람이 올라와서 우리를 만나 이르되 너희는 너희를 보낸 왕에게로 돌아가서 그에게 고하기를 여호와의 말씀이 이스라엘에 하나님이 없어서 네가 에그론의 신 바알세붑에게 물으려고 보내느냐 그러므로 네가 올라간 침상에서 내려오지 못할지라 네가 반드시 죽으리라 하셨다 하라 하더이다

왕이 그들에게 이르되 올라와서 너희를 만나 이 말을 너희에게 한 그 사람은 어떤 사람이더냐

그들이 그에게 대답하되 그는 털이 많은 사람인데 허리에 가죽 띠를 띠었더이다 하니 왕이 이르되 그는 디셉 사람 엘리야로다

이에 오십부장과 그의 군사 오십 명을 엘리야에게로 보내매 그가 엘리야에게로 올라가 본즉 산 꼭대기에 앉아 있는지라 그가 엘리야에게 이르되 하나님의 사람이여 왕의 말씀이 내려오라 하셨나이다

엘리야가 오십부장에게 대답하여 이르되 내가 만일 하나님의 사람이면 불이 하늘에서 내려와 너와 너의 오십 명을 사를지로다 하매 불이 곧 하늘에서 내려와 그와 그의 군사 오십 명을 살랐더라

They said to him, "A man came up to meet us and said to us, 'Go, return to the king who sent you and say to him, "Thus says the LORD, 'Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are sending to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron? Therefore you shall not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but shall surely die.'"'"

He said to them, "What kind of man was he who came up to meet you and spoke these words to you?"

They answered him, "He was a hairy man with a leather girdle bound about his loins." And he said, "It is Elijah the Tishbite."

Then the king sent to him a captain of fifty with his fifty. And he went up to him, and behold, he was sitting on the top of the hill. And he said to him, "O man of God, the king says, 'Come down.'"

Elijah replied to the captain of fifty, "If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty " Then fire came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty.

왕이 다시 다른 오십부장과 그의 군사 오십 명을 엘리야에게로 보내니 그가 엘리야에게 말하여 이르되 하나님의 사람이여 왕의 말씀이 속히 내려오라 하셨나이다 하니

엘리야가 그들에게 대답하여 이르되 내가 만일 하나님의 사람이면 불이 하늘에서 내려와 너와 너의 오십 명을 사를지로다 하매 하나님의 불이 곧 하늘에서 내려와 그와 그의 군사 오십 명을 살랐더라

왕이 세 번째 오십부장과 그의 군사 오십 명을 보낸지라 셋째 오십부장이 올라가서 엘리야 앞에 이르러 그의 무릎을 꿇어 엎드려 간구하여 이르되 하나님의 사람이여 원하건대 나의 생명과 당신의 종인 이 오십 명의 생명을 당신은 귀히 보소서

불이 하늘에서 내려와 전번의 오십부장 둘과 그의 군사 오십 명을 살랐거니와 나의 생명을 당신은 귀히 보소서 하매

여호와의 사자가 엘리야에게 이르되 너는 그를 두려워하지 말고 함께 내려가라 하신지라 엘리야가 곧 일어나 그와 함께 내려와 왕에게 이르러

So he again sent to him another captain of fifty with his fifty. And he said to him, "O man of God, thus says the king, 'Come down quickly.'"

Elijah replied to them, "If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty." Then the fire of God came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty.

So he again sent the captain of a third fifty with his fifty. When the third captain of fifty went up, he came and bowed down on his knees before Elijah, and begged him and said to him, "O man of God, please let my life and the lives of these fifty servants of yours be precious in your sight.

"Behold fire came down from heaven and consumed the first two captains of fifty with their fifties; but now let my life be precious in your sight."

The angel of the LORD said to Elijah, "Go down with him; do not be afraid of him." So he arose and went down with him to the king.

말하되 여호와의 말씀이 네가 사자를 보내 에그론의 신 바알세붑에게 물으려 하니 이스라엘에 그의 말을 물을 만한 하나님이 안 계심이냐 그러므로 네가 그 올라간 침상에서 내려오지 못할지라 네가 반드시 죽으리라 하셨다 하니라

왕이 엘리야가 전한 여호와의 말씀대로 죽고 그가 아들이 없으므로 여호람이 그를 대신하여 왕이 되니 유다 왕 여호사밧의 아들 여호람의 둘째 해였더라

아하시야가 행한 그 남은 사적은 모두 이스라엘 왕 역대지략에 기록되지 아니하였느냐

Then he said to him, "Thus says the LORD, 'Because you have sent messengers to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron--is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of His word?--therefore you shall not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but shall surely die.'"

So Ahaziah died according to the word of the LORD which Elijah had spoken. And because he had no son, Jehoram became king in his place in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah.

Now the rest of the acts of Ahaziah which he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

	엘리야의 승천과 후계자 엘리사(2:1-2:25)

여호와께서 회오리 바람으로 엘리야를 하늘로 올리고자 하실 때에 엘리야가 엘리사와 더불어 길갈에서 나가더니

엘리야가 엘리사에게 이르되 청하건대 너는 여기 머물라 여호와께서 나를 벧엘로 보내시느니라 하니 엘리사가 이르되 여호와께서 살아 계심과 당신의 영혼이 살아 있음을 두고 맹세하노니 내가 당신을 떠나지 아니하겠나이다 하는지라 이에 두 사람이 벧엘로 내려가니

벧엘에 있는 선지자의 제자들이 엘리사에게로 나아와 그에게 이르되 여호와께서 오늘 당신의 선생을 당신의 머리 위로 데려가실 줄을 아시나이까 하니 이르되 나도 또한 아노니 너희는 잠잠하라 하니라

엘리야가 그에게 이르되 엘리사야 청하건대 너는 여기 머물라 여호와께서 나를 여리고로 보내시느니라 엘리사가 이르되 여호와께서 살아 계심과 당신의 영혼이 살아 있음을 두고 맹세하노니 내가 당신을 떠나지 아니하겠나이다 하니라 그들이 여리고에 이르매

여리고에 있는 선지자의 제자들이 엘리사에게 나아와 이르되 여호와께서 오늘 당신의 선생을 당신의 머리 위로 데려가실 줄을 아시나이까 하니 엘리사가 이르되 나도 아노니 너희는 잠잠하라

And it came about when the LORD was about to take up Elijah by a whirlwind to heaven, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.

Elijah said to Elisha, "Stay here please, for the LORD has sent me as far as Bethel " But Elisha said, "As the LORD lives and as you yourself live, I will not leave you." So they went down to Bethel.

Then the sons of the prophets who were at Bethel came out to Elisha and said to him, "Do you know that the LORD will take away your master from over you today?" And he said, "Yes, I know; be still."

Elijah said to him, "Elisha, please stay here, for the LORD has sent me to Jericho " But he said, "As the LORD lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you." So they came to Jericho.

The sons of the prophets who were at Jericho approached Elisha and said to him, "Do you know that the LORD will take away your master from over you today?" And he answered, "Yes, I know; be still."

엘리야가 또 엘리사에게 이르되 청하건대 너는 여기 머물라 여호와께서 나를 요단으로 보내시느니라 하니 그가 이르되 여호와께서 살아 계심과 당신의 영혼이 살아 있음을 두고 맹세하노니 내가 당신을 떠나지 아니하겠나이다 하는지라 이에 두 사람이 가니라

선지자의 제자 오십 명이 가서 멀리 서서 바라보매 그 두 사람이 요단 가에 서 있더니

엘리야가 겉옷을 가지고 말아 물을 치매 물이 이리 저리 갈라지고 두 사람이 마른 땅 위로 건너더라

건너매 엘리야가 엘리사에게 이르되 나를 네게서 데려감을 당하기 전에 내가 네게 어떻게 할지를 구하라 엘리사가 이르되 당신의 성령이 하시는 역사가 갑절이나 내게 있게 하소서 하는지라

이르되 네가 어려운 일을 구하는도다 그러나 나를 네게서 데려가시는 것을 네가 보면 그 일이 네게 이루어지려니와 그렇지 아니하면 이루어지지 아니하리라 하고

Then Elijah said to him, "Please stay here, for the LORD has sent me to the Jordan." And he said, "As the LORD lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you." So the two of them went on.

Now fifty men of the sons of the prophets went and stood opposite them at a distance, while the two of them stood by the Jordan.

Elijah took his mantle and folded it together and struck the waters, and they were divided here and there, so that the two of them crossed over on dry ground.

When they had crossed over, Elijah said to Elisha, "Ask what I shall do for you before I am taken from you." And Elisha said, "Please, let a double portion of your spirit be upon me."

He said, "You have asked a hard thing. Nevertheless, if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so for you; but if not, it shall not be so."

두 사람이 길을 가며 말하더니 불수레와 불말들이 두 사람을 갈라놓고 엘리야가 회오리 바람으로 하늘로 올라가더라

엘리사가 보고 소리 지르되 내 아버지여 내 아버지여 이스라엘의 병거와 그 마병이여 하더니 다시 보이지 아니하는지라 이에 엘리사가 자기의 옷을 잡아 둘로 찢고

엘리야의 몸에서 떨어진 겉옷을 주워 가지고 돌아와 요단 언덕에 서서

엘리야의 몸에서 떨어진 그의 겉옷을 가지고 물을 치며 이르되 엘리야의 하나님 여호와는 어디 계시니이까 하고 그도 물을 치매 물이 이리 저리 갈라지고 엘리사가 건너니라

맞은편 여리고에 있는 선지자의 제자들이 그를 보며 말하기를 엘리야의 성령이 하시는 역사가 엘리사 위에 머물렀다 하고 가서 그에게로 나아가 땅에 엎드려 그에게 경배하고

As they were going along and talking, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire and horses of fire which separated the two of them. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind to heaven.

Elisha saw it and cried out, "My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and its horsemen!" And he saw Elijah no more Then he took hold of his own clothes and tore them in two pieces.

He also took up the mantle of Elijah that fell from him and returned and stood by the bank of the Jordan.

He took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him and struck the waters and said, "Where is the LORD, the God of Elijah?" And when he also had struck the waters, they were divided here and there; and Elisha crossed over.

Now when the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho opposite him saw him, they said, "The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha." And they came to meet him and bowed themselves to the ground before him.

그에게 이르되 당신의 종들에게 용감한 사람 오십 명이 있으니 청하건대 그들이 가서 당신의 주인을 찾게 하소서 염려하건대 여호와의 성령이 그를 들고 가다가 어느 산에나 어느 골짜기에 던지셨을까 하나이다 하니라 엘리사가 이르되 보내지 말라 하나

무리가 그로 부끄러워하도록 강청하매 보내라 한지라 그들이 오십 명을 보냈더니 사흘 동안을 찾되 발견하지 못하고

엘리사가 여리고에 머무는 중에 무리가 그에게 돌아오니 엘리사가 그들에게 이르되 내가 가지 말라고 너희에게 이르지 아니하였느냐 하였더라

그 성읍 사람들이 엘리사에게 말하되 우리 주인께서 보시는 바와 같이 이 성읍의 위치는 좋으나 물이 나쁘므로 토산이 익지 못하고 떨어지나이다

엘리사가 이르되 새 그릇에 소금을 담아 내게로 가져오라 하매 곧 가져온지라

They said to him, "Behold now, there are with your servants fifty strong men, please let them go and search for your master; perhaps the Spirit of the LORD has taken him up and cast him on some mountain or into some valley." And he said, "You shall not send."

But when they urged him until he was ashamed, he said, "Send." They sent therefore fifty men; and they searched three days but did not find him.

They returned to him while he was staying at Jericho; and he said to them, "Did I not say to you, 'Do not go'?"

Then the men of the city said to Elisha, "Behold now, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord sees; but the water is bad and the land is unfruitful."

He said, "Bring me a new jar, and put salt in it." So they brought it to him.

엘리사가 물 근원으로 나아가서 소금을 그 가운데에 던지며 이르되 여호와의 말씀이 내가 이 물을 고쳤으니 이로부터 다시는 죽음이나 열매 맺지 못함이 없을지니라 하셨느니라 하니

그 물이 엘리사가 한 말과 같이 고쳐져서 오늘에 이르렀더라

엘리사가 거기서 벧엘로 올라가더니 그가 길에서 올라갈 때에 작은 아이들이 성읍에서 나와 그를 조롱하여 이르되 대머리여 올라가라 대머리여 올라가라 하는지라

엘리사가 뒤로 돌이켜 그들을 보고 여호와의 이름으로 저주하매 곧 수풀에서 암곰 둘이 나와서 아이들 중의 사십이 명을 찢었더라

엘리사가 거기서부터 갈멜 산으로 가고 거기서 사마리아로 돌아왔더라

He went out to the spring of water and threw salt in it and said, "Thus says the LORD, 'I have purified these waters; there shall not be from there death or unfruitfulness any longer.'"

So the waters have been purified to this day, according to the word of Elisha which he spoke.

Then he went up from there to Bethel; and as he was going up by the way, young lads came out from the city and mocked him and said to him, "Go up, you baldhead; go up, you baldhead!"

When he looked behind him and saw them, he cursed them in the name of the LORD. Then two female bears came out of the woods and tore up forty-two lads of their number.

He went from there to Mount Carmel, and from there he returned to Samaria.
