창세기 37:1-38:30

 아버지의 사랑을 독차지하고 두 번에 걸친 자신의 꿈 이야기를 자랑하는 요셉을 시기하고 질투한 형들이 음모로 꾸며 요셉을 종으로 팔았다. 한편 세 아들을 둔 유다는 야웨 앞에서 행위가 악한 장자와 둘째 아들을 잃었고, 맏며느리 다말은 장성한 셋째 아들을 통해서도 후사를 잇지 못하게 되자 꾀를 내어 시부인 유다와 동침하여 베레스와 세라를 낳았다.
  
  요셉의 꿈(37:1-37:36)    
 
  1. 야곱은 자기 아버지가 살던 가나안 땅에서 계속 살았다.
  2. 다음은 그의 가족이 대한 이야기이다. 17세의 소년 요셉은 자기 아버지의 첩 빌하와 실바가 낳은 아들들과 함께 양을 치면서 형들의 잘못을 아버지에게 일일이 일러바쳤다.
  3. 야곱은 노년에 요셉을 얻었으므로 다른 아들보다 그를 특별히 사랑하여 화려하게 장식한 긴 겉옷을 만들어 입혔다.
  4. 그러자 그의 형들은 아버지가 자기들보다 요셉을 더 사랑하는 것을 보고 그를 미워하여 그에게 말도 잘 하지 않았다.
  5. 한번은 요셉이 꿈을 꾸고 형들에게 그 꿈 이야기를 하자 그들은 그를 더욱 미워하였다.
  1. Jacob lived in the land where his father had stayed, the land of Canaan.
  2. This is the account of Jacob. Joseph, a young man of seventeen, was tending the flocks with his brothers, the sons of Bilhah and the sons of Zilpah, his father's wives, and he brought their father a bad report about them.
  3. Now Israel loved Joseph more than any of his other sons, because he had been born to him in his old age; and he made a richly ornamented robe for him.
  4. When his brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of them, they hated him and could not speak a kind word to him.
  5. Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him all the more.
  1. 요셉이 그들에게 '내 꿈 이야기를 들어 보십시오.
  2. 우리가 들에서 곡식단을 묶고 있는데 갑자기 내 단이 일어서고 형님들의 단은 내 단을 둘러서서 절하였습니다' 하자
  3. 형들이 그에게 '네가 우리의 왕이 될 작정이냐? 네가 정말 우리를 지배하겠느냐?' 하고 조소하며 그 꿈 이야기 때문이 그를 더욱 미워하였다.
  4. 요셉은 다시 꿈을 꾸고 형들에게 '내가 또 다른 꿈을 꾸었는데 꿈에 보니 해와 달과 열 한 개의 별이 나에게 절하였습니다' 하고
  5. 또 그 꿈 이야기를 자기 아버지에게도 하였다. 그러자 아버지는 '네가 꾸었다는 그 꿈이 도대체 무엇이냐? 나와 네 어머니와 네 형들이 정말 네 앞에 가서 땅에 엎드려 절하겠느냐?' 하고 그를 꾸짖었다.
  1. He said to them, "Listen to this dream I had:
  2. We were binding sheaves of grain out in the field when suddenly my sheaf rose and stood upright, while your sheaves gathered around mine and bowed down to it."
  3. His brothers said to him, "Do you intend to reign over us? Will you actually rule us?" And they hated him all the more because of his dream and what he had said.
  4. Then he had another dream, and he told it to his brothers. "Listen," he said, "I had another dream, and this time the sun and moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me."
  5. When he told his father as well as his brothers, his father rebuked him and said, "What is this dream you had? Will your mother and I and your brothers actually come and bow down to the ground before you?"
  1. 요셉의 형들은 그를 시기하였으나 그의 아버지는 그 말을 마음에 새겨 두었다.
  2. 요셉의 형들이 세겜에 가서 양을 치고 있을 때
  3. 야곱이 요셉에게 말하였다 '네 형들이 세겜에서 양을 치고 있지 않느냐? 네가 형들에게 좀 다녀와야겠다' 요셉이 아버지에게 '예, 다녀오겠습니다' 하고 대답하자
  4. 야곱이 그에게 '가서 네 형들과 양떼가 잘 있는지 보고 오너라' 하며 헤브론 골짜기에서 그를 보냈다. 요셉이 세겜에 도착하여
  5. 들에서 방황하고 있는데 어떤 사람이 그를 보고 물었다. '네가 무엇을 찾고 있느냐?'
  1. His brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the matter in mind.
  2. Now his brothers had gone to graze their father's flocks near Shechem,
  3. and Israel said to Joseph, "As you know, your brothers are grazing the flocks near Shechem. Come, I am going to send you to them." "Very well," he replied.
  4. So he said to him, "Go and see if all is well with your brothers and with the flocks, and bring word back to me." Then he sent him off from the Valley of Hebron. When Joseph arrived at Shechem,
  5. a man found him wandering around in the fields and asked him, "What are you looking for?"
  1. '내 형들을 찾고 있습니다. 죄송하지만 그들이 양치는 곳을 말씀해 주실 수 있겠습니까?'
  2. '그들은 이 곳을 떠났다. 나는 그들이 도단으로 가자고 하는 소리를 들었다' 그래서 요셉은 형들을 뒤쫓아가 도단에서 그들을 찾았다.
  3. 그러나 그들은 멀리 요셉이 오는 것을 보고 그가 가까이 오기 전에 그를 속일 음모를 꾸미며
  4. '저기 꿈꾸는 자가 오고 있다.
  5. 자, 그를 죽여 구덩이에 던져 넣고 맹수가 잡아먹었다고 하자. 그리고 그 꿈이 어떻게 되는지 한번 보자' 하고 서로 말하였다.
  1. He replied, "I'm looking for my brothers. Can you tell me where they are grazing their flocks?"
  2. "They have moved on from here," the man answered. "I heard them say, 'Let's go to Dothan.' " So Joseph went after his brothers and found them near Dothan.
  3. But they saw him in the distance, and before he reached them, they plotted to kill him.
  4. "Here comes that dreamer!" they said to each other.
  5. "Come now, let's kill him and throw him into one of these cisterns and say that a ferocious animal devoured him. Then we'll see what comes of his dreams."
  1. 그때 르우벤이 이 말을 듣고 요셉을 구하려고 이렇게 말하였다. '우리가 그를 죽이지는 말자.
  2. 그를 이 구덩이에 던져 넣고 그에게 손은 대지 말아라' 르우벤이 이렇게 말한 것은 요셉을 그들에게서 구출하여 그를 아버지에게 돌려보내기 위해서였다.
  3. 요셉이 형들에게 이르자 그들은 화려하게 장식한 요셉의 긴 겉옷을 벗기고
  4. 그를 구덩이에 던져 넣었는데 그 구덩이는 물이 없고 텅 비어 있었다.
  5. 그들이 앉아서 음식을 먹다가 눈을 들어 보니 이스마엘족의 대상들이 길르앗에서 오고 있었다. 그들은 낙타에 향품과 유향과 몰약을 싣고 이집트로 내려가는 중이었다.
  1. When Reuben heard this, he tried to rescue him from their hands. "Let's not take his life," he said.
  2. "Don't shed any blood. Throw him into this cistern here in the desert, but don't lay a hand on him." Reuben said this to rescue him from them and take him back to his father.
  3. So when Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped him of his robe--the richly ornamented robe he was wearing-
  4. and they took him and threw him into the cistern. Now the cistern was empty; there was no water in it.
  5. As they sat down to eat their meal, they looked up and saw a caravan of Ishmaelites coming from Gilead. Their camels were loaded with spices, balm and myrrh, and they were on their way to take them down to Egypt.
  1. 이때 유다가 자기 형제들에게 '우리가 우리 동생을 죽이고 그 사실을 숨긴들 무슨 유익이 있겠느냐?
  2. 자, 그를 이스마엘 사람들에게 팔아 넘기고 그에게 손을 대지 말자. 그도 우리와 살과 피를 나눈 우리의 형제이다' 하자 그의 형제들이 그의 말에 동의하였다.
  3. 미디안 상인들이 지나갈 때 그들은 요셉을 구덩이에서 끌어올려 은화 20개를 받고 그를 이스마엘 사람들에게 팔았다. 그러자 그 대상들은 요셉을 데리고 이집트로 갔다.
  4. 르우벤이 그 구덩이에 돌아와 보니 거기에 요셉이 없었다. 그래서 그는 자기 옷을 찢고

  1. Judah said to his brothers, "What will we gain if we kill our brother and cover up his blood?
  2. Come, let's sell him to the Ishmaelites and not lay our hands on him; after all, he is our brother, our own flesh and blood." His brothers agreed.
  3. So when the Midianite merchants came by, his brothers pulled Joseph up out of the cistern and sold him for twenty shekels of silver to the Ishmaelites, who took him to Egypt.
  4. When Reuben returned to the cistern and saw that Joseph was not there, he tore his clothes.
  5. He went back to his brothers and said, "The boy isn't there! Where can I turn now?"
  1. 그들은 염소를 죽이고 요셉의 옷을 가져다가 그 피에 적셔
  2. 그것을 아버지에게 갖다 드리며 '우리가 이것을 주웠는데 요셉의 옷인지 보십시오' 하였다.
  3. 그러자 그는 그것을 알아보고 '이것은 내 아들의 옷이다. 맹수가 그를 잡아먹었구나. 내 아들 요셉은 찢겨 죽은 것이 틀림없다' 라고 통곡하며
  4. 자기 옷을 찢고 허리에 굵은 삼베를 두르고 오랫동안 아들의 죽음을 슬퍼하였다.
  5. 그의 모든 자녀들이 그를 위로하였으나 아무 소용이 없었다. 그는 '내가 슬퍼하다가 저 세상에 있는 내 아들에게 가겠다' 하고 계속 아들의 죽음을 슬퍼하며 울었다.
  1. Then they got Joseph's robe, slaughtered a goat and dipped the robe in the blood.
  2. They took the ornamented robe back to their father and said, "We found this. Examine it to see whether it is your son's robe."
  3. He recognized it and said, "It is my son's robe! Some ferocious animal has devoured him. Joseph has surely been torn to pieces."
  4. Then Jacob tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and mourned for his son many days.
  5. All his sons and daughters came to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted. "No," he said, "in mourning will I go down to the grave to my son." So his father wept for him.
  1. 한편 미디안 사람들은 이집트에서 바로의 신하이며 경호대장인 보디발에게 요셉을 팔았다.
  1. Meanwhile, the Midianites sold Joseph in Egypt to Potiphar, one of Pharaoh's officials, the captain of the guard.
 
  유다와 다말의 근친 상간(38:1-38:30)    
 
  1. 그 후에 유다는 형제들을 떠나 아둘람 사람 히라에게 가서 그와 함께 머물러 있었다.
  2. 거기서 유다는 가나안 사람 수아의 딸을 만나 그녀와 결혼하였다.
  3. 그녀가 임신하여 아들을 낳자 유다는 그 이름을 엘이라고 지었다.
  4. 그녀는 다시 임신하여 아들을 낳고 그 이름을 오난이라고 하였으며
  5. 또 다른 아들을 낳아 그 이름을 셀라라고 하였다. 그녀가 셀라를 낳을 때 유다는 거십에 있었다.
  1. At that time, Judah left his brothers and went down to stay with a man of Adullam named Hirah.
  2. There Judah met the daughter of a Canaanite man named Shua. He married her and lay with her;
  3. she became pregnant and gave birth to a son, who was named Er.
  4. She conceived again and gave birth to a son and named him Onan.
  5. She gave birth to still another son and named him Shelah. It was at Kezib that she gave birth to him.
  1. 유다는 장남 엘을 다말이라는 여자와 결혼시켰는데
  2. 엘의 행위가 여호와께서 보시기에 악하므로 여호와께서 그를 죽이셨다.
  3. 그래서 유다는 오난에게 '네 형수와 잠자리를 같이하여 네 형을 위해 자식을 낳아 주는 시동생의 의무를 다하라' 하였다
  4. 그러나 오난은 아이를 낳아도 자기 자식이 되지 못할 것을 알고 자식을 낳아 주지 않기 위해서 형수와 관계를 가질 때마다 잠자리에 사정하였다.
  5. 그가 행한 일이 여호와께서 보시기에 악하므로 여호와께서는 그도 죽이셨다.
  1. Judah got a wife for Er, his firstborn, and her name was Tamar.
  2. But Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the LORD's sight; so the LORD put him to death.
  3. Then Judah said to Onan, "Lie with your brother's wife and fulfill your duty to her as a brother-in-law to produce offspring for your brother."
  4. But Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so whenever he lay with his brother's wife, he spilled his semen on the ground to keep from producing offspring for his brother.
  5. What he did was wicked in the LORD's sight; so he put him to death also.
  1. 이때 유다는 며느리 다말에게 '네 친정 집으로 가서 내 아들 셀라가 성장할 때까지 그대로 지내라' 하였다. 그가 이렇게 말한 것은 셀라도 그 형들처럼 죽을지 모른다는 두려움 때문이었다. 그래서 다말은 친정에 가서 살았다.
  2. 얼마 후에 수아의 딸인 유다의 아내가 죽었다. 유다는 어느 정도 마음의 위안을 되찾은 다음에 친구인 아둘람 사람 히라와 함께 자기 양떼의 털 깎는 자들이 있는 딤나로 올라갔다
  3. 이때 다말은 자기 시아버지가 양털을 깎으려고 딤나로 올라오고 있다는 말을 듣게 되었다.
  4. 그래서 그녀는 과부의 옷을 벗고 면사포로 얼굴을 가린 채 딤나로 가는 길 옆 에나임 입구에 앉아 있었다. 이것은 셀라가 성장했는데도 그와 결혼시켜 주지 않았기 때문이었다.
  5. 그녀가 얼굴을 가렸으므로 유다는 그녀를 창녀로 생각하였다
  1. Judah then said to his daughter-in-law Tamar, "Live as a widow in your father's house until my son Shelah grows up." For he thought, "He may die too, just like his brothers." So Tamar went to live in her father's house.
  2. After a long time Judah's wife, the daughter of Shua, died. When Judah had recovered from his grief, he went up to Timnah, to the men who were shearing his sheep, and his friend Hirah the Adullamite went with him.
  3. When Tamar was told, "Your father-in-law is on his way to Timnah to shear his sheep,"
  4. she took off her widow's clothes, covered herself with a veil to disguise herself, and then sat down at the entrance to Enaim, which is on the road to Timnah. For she saw that, though Shelah had now grown up, she had not been given to him as his wife.
  5. When Judah saw her, he thought she was a prostitute, for she had covered her face.
  1. 유다는 그녀가 자기 며느리인 줄도 모르고 길 옆에 앉아 있는 그녀에게 다가가서 말하였다. '너와 쉬었다 가겠다' '얼마나 주시겠습니까?'
  2. '염소 새끼 한 마리를 보내 주겠다' '좋습니다. 그 염소를 보낼 때까지 담보물을 잡히시겠습니까?'
  3. '담보물로 무엇을 주면 되겠느냐?' '끈 달린 당신의 그 도장과 당신이 들고 있는 그 지팡이를 나에게 주십시오' 그래서 유다는 그것들을 주고 그녀와 함께 잠자리에 들었으며 그녀는 그를 통해서 임신하게 되었다.
  4. 그리고서 다말은 집으로 가서 면사포를 벗고 과부의 옷을 다시 입었다.
  5. 유다는 자기 친구인 아둘람 사람 히라에게 부탁하여 염소 새끼를 그 여자에게 보내고 그가 담보물로 맡긴 물건을 찾아오라고 하였다. 그러나 그는 그 여자를 찾지 못하였다.
  1. Not realizing that she was his daughter-in-law, he went over to her by the roadside and said, "Come now, let me sleep with you." "And what will you give me to sleep with you?" she asked.
  2. "I'll send you a young goat from my flock," he said. "Will you give me something as a pledge until you send it?" she asked.
  3. He said, "What pledge should I give you?" "Your seal and its cord, and the staff in your hand," she answered. So he gave them to her and slept with her, and she became pregnant by him.
  4. After she left, she took off her veil and put on her widow's clothes again.
  5. Meanwhile Judah sent the young goat by his friend the Adullamite in order to get his pledge back from the woman, but he did not find her.
  1. 그가 에나임에 있는 사람들에게 '길가에 있던 창녀가 어디 있습니까?' 하고 묻자 그들이 '이곳에는 창녀가 없습니다' 하고 대답하였다.
  2. 그래서 그는 유다에게 돌아가서 말하였다. '그녀를 찾지 못했네. 그 곳 사람들도 거기에는 창녀가 없다고 하더군'
  3. 그 여자가 그 물건을 가지도록 내버려 두게. 그렇지 않으면 우리가 웃음거리가 되고 말겠네. 어쨌든 나는 그 여자에게 염소 새끼를 보냈으나 자네가 그녀를 찾지 못했을 뿐이야'
  4. 석 달쯤 후에 어떤 사람이 유다에게 '당신의 며느리 다말이 창녀짓을 하여 임신하였소' 하자 유다가 '그 여자를 끌어내어 불에 태워 죽이시오' 하였다.
  5. 그녀는 끌려나가면서 자기 시아버지에게 이런 전갈을 보냈다. '나는 이 물건 임자 때문에 임신하게 되었습니다. 이 끈 달린 도장과 지팡이가 누구의 것인지 한번 보십시오'
  1. He asked the men who lived there, "Where is the shrine prostitute who was beside the road at Enaim?" "There hasn't been any shrine prostitute here," they said.
  2. So he went back to Judah and said, "I didn't find her. Besides, the men who lived there said, 'There hasn't been any shrine prostitute here.' "
  3. Then Judah said, "Let her keep what she has, or we will become a laughingstock. After all, I did send her this young goat, but you didn't find her."
  4. About three months later Judah was told, "Your daughter-in-law Tamar is guilty of prostitution, and as a result she is now pregnant." Judah said, "Bring her out and have her burned to death!"
  5. As she was being brought out, she sent a message to her father-in-law. "I am pregnant by the man who owns these," she said. And she added, "See if you recognize whose seal and cord and staff these are."
  1. 유다는 그것들을 알아보고 '그녀가 나보다 옳다. 내가 그녀를 내 아들 셀라에게 주지 않았다.' 하고 다시는 그녀와 잠자리를 같이하지 않았다.
  2. 그녀가 해산할 때가 되었을 때 보니 쌍동이를 배었는데
  3. 한 아이가 먼저 손 하나를 불쑥 내밀었다. 그래서 산파가 그 손을 붙잡아 손목에 붉은 실을 잡아매고 '이 아이가 먼저 나왔다' 하고 말하였다.
  4. 그러나 그가 도로 손을 안으로 들이고 다른 아이가 나왔다. 그때 산파가 '네가 어째서 비집고 나오느냐?' 하고 소리쳤다. 그래서 그 이름을 '베레스'라고 불렀다.
  5. 그리고서 손목에 붉은 실을 맨 아이가 나오자 그 이름을 '세라' 라고 불렀다.
  1. Judah recognized them and said, "She is more righteous than I, since I wouldn't give her to my son Shelah." And he did not sleep with her again.
  2. When the time came for her to give birth, there were twin boys in her womb.
  3. As she was giving birth, one of them put out his hand; so the midwife took a scarlet thread and tied it on his wrist and said, "This one came out first."
  4. But when he drew back his hand, his brother came out, and she said, "So this is how you have broken out!" And he was named Perez.
  5. Then his brother, who had the scarlet thread on his wrist, came out and he was given the name Zerah.
 
  임산(臨産, 38:27)  산기(産期)가 임박하여 고통이 시작됨
